What do you think of this part of Scotland? I absolutely love Loch Muick and it looks spectacular at this time of year! For those of you using subtitles for the videos, I am still working on them and they will be available on this video within the next 12 hours, sorry for the delay! 🙏
After I've finished reading all the doom and gloom on the news, I save Ruth's video's for bedtime. Her lovely Scottish voice, the amazing scenery, interesting facts, all help me wind down for bed. Thanks for making them and posting. Beautiful woman.
23:18 -- Ruth! No -- you are not the "Average Joe" (or "Average Jane") -- you've been blessed with a curiosity to explore and learn more about your home country (and other places), and the talents to record it all and share it with us!!! Not "Average" at all!!!! Thank you so much for showing a place that *I* would love to have as a retreat from the business of life and duties every so often! And despite the grey skies, the leaves and trees and moors all nailed the Autumn colors....
Dear Ruth, yes, I was also surprised that the castle is so public. But it was fun to visit everything with you. The surroundings are really beautiful. Thank you for the nice explanations. Best wishes
What a lovely informative video Ruth. I was surprised to hear that Balmoral isn't part of the Crown Estate but is privately owned and passed down to the reigning Monarch. That whiskey in the barrel looked dangerously nice. Thank you for taking me on your walkabout, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
A kirk is always a church, but not all churches in Scotland are referred to as kirks. The term "kirk" tends to emphasise a connection to Scotland's Presbyterian heritage and cultural tradition, while "church" is more universal. The origin of the word "kirk" comes from the Old Norse word kirkja and the Scots language. The origin of the word "church" comes from the Old English cirice, influenced by Greek kyriakon (meaning "the Lord's house").
In genealogy geolocations of 17th century in Scotland. “Kirk is a Scottish and former Northern English word meaning 'church'. The term the Kirk is often used informally to refer specifically to the Church of Scotland, the Scottish national church that developed from the 16th-century Reformation.” Kirken is plural.
Thanks Ruth, Your videos are so inspiring and informative. I love learning about Scotland 🏴. Life is pretty weird in the USA currently and your country is so beautiful, and I appreciate you sharing your experiences.
Beautiful! Thank you, Ruth! This is an outstanding episode. ♥ I appreciate that you don't enter the controversies and just stick to the history. It's such an interesting history.
Thank you Ruth for your lovely videos. I am disabled and would love to do the walks with you but my hips would give out. Your photography is stunning. I do feel as though I am with you enjoying the views. Great shots and great scenery. xx
Good Morning Ruth As we are near the coast we had a battering from Storm Bert over the last couple of days. Ballater and the surrounding is one of my favourites in the Highlands. I was lucky enough visit Balmoral Castle and go into Crathie Kirk in 2018. Apparently when the Royals visit they enter via the rear door. Loved the drone shots and the visit to the distillery shop. regards Crawford
What a great video. Scotland is my idea of what Heaven will be like. I love history too and appreciate all the history in your videos. The scenery is breathtaking! Thank you. Those highland cows are such precious looking creatures!
I go up to (just outside) Ullapool regularly and some years ago I went up with my wife, leaving our caravan at her sister's house outside Ullapool but taking the Jeep and a tent over to Lewis & Harris. I can't tell you how windy it was! At one stage I had the tent ripped out of my hands before we had set it up. Chasing it across the dunes was a laugh but we caught it! When it was up and secured it was fine. Bit we got only fitful sleep until about 5am as there was the constant fear the tent would be ripped from its pegs and disappear, leaving us looking at the sky! But at 5am, waking for the umpteenth time, and being light as it was early August, we realised we'd be fine. The wind had dropped, we went to the (empty as that time) loo then went back to a great sleep for another 4-5 hours! The weather was great the next couple of days and the beaches (we camped at Cnip) were wonderful white sand, sky was blue and the sea a clear turquoise. A great time yravelling up & down L+H. I look forward to your taking the ferry trip back to Ullapool which we took. Next week!!!
Hi Ruth, I've been playing catch-up , as I've missed the last few of your videos. Have been enjoying them, as I always do, and you as well. This one was especially enjoyable to me, as i have kept up somewhat, with the Royals since Princess Diana came on scene. Thank you.
Thanks for a trip down memory lane. I grew up in Royal Deeside just down the road from Ballater about 12 miles in the beautiful village of Tarland now known for its Mountain bike trails along with The Macrobert Estate. I knew someone that lived in Crathie when I was a teenager nearly 50 years ago and one summers day I cycled the 20 miles up to Balmoral and we ended up swimming in the Castle boat pool in the Dee. I don't remember but I guess it was freezing at the time but I guess I was hot after my cycle and the 20 miles home again would have heated me up again. A stunning part of the world that I regularly visit to catch up with my Mum & Sister and my best friend who has a farm where I spent most of my time growing up before a career in Banking took me on my own personal world tour of Scotland.
Oh my, such beauty and history. I can imagine sitting on the shore of Loch Muick playing my whistle. The mist covered hills were/are outstanding. Thank you
Some years ago we were supporting students from our local college who were doing their D.of.E expeditions. We camped at Ballater, and had a picnic at the Linn of Dee. Truly lovely places. both.
Fantastic. Really lovely, relaxing video. I worked in the former Invercauld Arms Hotel (now self catering) in the summer before uni. It was a hunting /shooting hotel for the rich. Wild times. Included me getting in a war with the Glasgow Blue Angels motorcycle gang and smashing a bottle of beer over the leader's head. He had me pinned down on a bed.
To start off with. How dare the "Highlanders Bakehouse" be closed. Ruth this is an amazing video. I will be watching it again. Your skill with filming some of the best Autumn images and landscapes I have ever seen. You are truly something else. Your timing with filming this location was perfect. Opening up all the information and history is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Loved watching this adventure as I spent a great deal of time visiting this area as I had family that lived in Braemar. Wish I had known about loch Muick it looks absolutely breathtaking. Thanks again Ruth, continued safe travels. Just a footnote highland cows are one of my favourite animals and they come in a variety of colours, I love their personalities.
4:00 You said the 'I' word!!! Now you've got to spin round three times and say 'Jings, crivvens, help ma boab!' 😲😂 Lovely film of a lovely area though!
That was great Ruth. It's such a scenic area to visit. We stayed at Ballater a couple of years ago in January and we loved it, especially when it started snowing as the whole area looks magical. What wasn't magical was our drive home (well, to our next destination Edinburgh) as we had to drive down the 'Snow Road' from Glenshee in a blizzard just before they closed the snow gates. Safe to say I was bricking it! 😅 - and a quick edit to say well done in reaching 130k subs. Great stuff!
Good evening Ruth it’s only me - I absolutely love my Sunday evenings because I know your Vlog/video is on and I love your content - I hope you’ve managed to stay warm this week as the weather is absolutely freezing - but today is really quite warm but very very windy ~ my physical health is causing problems at the moment and I’m on two lots of antibiotics ~ I hope you have a great week - sending loads of love and hugs ~ Xxx Xxx
It has been SO cold! It was snowing a little bit up here in Scotland and was a bit icy for driving one morning. Hope you are keeping nice and warm too Louise!
Highland cattle were originally black but the breed were bred ginger and other colours in early Victorian times for reasons of saleability as black cattle were sold for less at markets
Another Beautiful Area Ruth. So interesting seeing the Royal Deeside area, Ballater station was fascinating with its history and renovation. Then onto the Balmoral Estate and around Loch Muick . How wonderful to see the hunting lodge with all its royal connections and the Bothy that’s used now. Beautiful views across the loch towards the hunting lodge. I think it’s great you have all the equipment for your convenience and use in your van. The Church looked very picturesque from the outside. I have watched your excellent vlog on the production of Curling Stones. Amazing you found the curling rink. Loved the cairns and the surrounding woodlands. The Grounds of the Castle grounds look lovely. I can see why the Royal Family love the estate for an escape. Great Vlog again Ruth. Thank You for sharing
I thought you have run out of places to film, but this one is incredible. I visited Pitlochry and Aviemore before but this area you covered looks even better. This would be next on my list if I were to travel up again. Thanks again for this insightful video :) Keep warm this winter :)
Fun fact . Balmoral was second choice . Queen Victoria preferred the estate at loch Lagan . The building where monarch of the glen was filmed but only because of lack of rail link in that area she settled for balmoral estate instead .
My great, great, great uncle was John Blaikie Webster who was the head forester at the Balmoral estate for Queen Victoria & Prince Albert in the 1850’s and was responsible for introducing the growing of pineapples to Balmoral.
Hey Ruth I stayed in Ballater for a week years ago it's a lovely little Scottish village and Balmoral and all round there I love it all round there 😀 thanks for sharing memories 😀 your definitely getting around a lot in Scotland 😊😊
Thanks for yet another lovely video, Ruth.. Scotland seems to be a beautiful place. When you stopped for lunch at that cafe I was a bit bemused.. You had Cullen Skink which looked like a soup.. In Australia we have skinks running around everywhere. In fact we have some inner yard.. They are a small lizard-type creature.. I couldn't imagine you eating lizard soup and was much relieved when I discovered it was a fish soup.. Keep up the wonderful work!
Lovely to see inside the grounds of Balmoral been to the area many times once set off many years ago to climb up to Lochnagar Mountain from Muick Thanks very much
What a wonderful video Ruth! I loved seeing Balmoral and learning the Royal history. Your ability to show and teach us is wonderful. I also envy your ability to take the hikes and I live vicariously through you….although I’m still traveling quite a bit. Thank you!🇺🇸
We visited the area a couple of years ago in the spring. Nice to see some of the places we visited. The rooms you can see are mainly a photo/picture gallery so you didn't miss much. There is lots of weather to experience in Scotland as well as the views.
Hey Ruth, thanks for sharing Royal Deeside with all your followers, a truly lovely part of Scotland in my opinion, but being a local i guess I'm a little biased !!... safe travels my friend.Neil.😊x.
So many memories once again - Ballater station .... how to pronounce Muick .... I walked along that loch on the way back from climbing Lochnagar. A burglar alarm was going off at that hunting lodge. No burglars to be seen.
Hello Ruth, you're living my dream of seeing Scotland. My ancestors hail from Dumfries. I always wanted to go to Scotland but I am too sick now. So thanks for seeing it for me.
Hi Ruth. Always look forward to your vids. Lochnagar distillery ah! The hills ah! You don’t see many black heelan coos but did you know that the original beasts of 300 years ago or so, were always black and much smaller. Lovely vid again. You’ve barely scratched the area so I hope you’ll get back for more exploring. Keep them coming.
Yet another wonderful video! I visited the area many years ago but couldn't go into the Balmoral grounds as the queen was in residence. So lovely to 'visit' many years on.
New to your amazing channel Ruth. Been binging on some of your island trips and just love the solitude you find. Absolutely amazing. Wilderness and whisky. What a girl.
Thank you Ruth, so lovely a trip for us all to see!! I was in this part of Scotland on my first trip as a young woman to meet my husbands family- I have loved Scotland ever since🏴 So good you can walk and explore the estate, so beautiful!! Take good care of yourself on your journeys 🥰
Lovely video. Braemar is one of our top 5 favorite Scottish locations. Our family derives from Clan Farquharson, and the Braemar Castle is in possession of our clan’s chief. The area’s beauty is spectacular, and you did an excellent job video capturing it. Have wonderful memories of climbing the mountain at Lochnagar. Thanks for sharing another wonderful chapter in your Scottish chronicles.
@ Aviemore to Dufftown, Locations with standing stones or circles, Thurso (and the roads to get there), and Skye - so far. You’ve provided wonderful new location ideas to add to our list.
Linn of Dee is one of my favourites places in Scotland, just 6 miles outside Braemar and only visited by those in the know and serious walkers. I was there in June, drove over the hills from Grantown-on-Spey. A trip I have been doing since the late seventies/ early eighties. Done a few short walks from the car park over the years and in 1980 my brother did the walk through to Coylumbridge near Aviemore. I really love the Cairngorms.
Every vlog you do Ruth is a wonderful watch, but I think this might be one of my favourites so far. The scenery & the atmosphere, especially in the Autumn weather is absolutely beautiful. I'll have to watch this again over the weekend. Thank you for sharing 😊
I would so enjoy touring this area it's gorgeous with the towering Munro's and waterways , history . the trail is awesome , I am surprised they don't offer a Pitt toilet though for tourist to use at the hunt camp . they are simply made. ( but then again maybe it is due to being close to the water. ). The architecture is amazing ( I love history and old buildings ). spectacular estate and I thank you for taking us . fantastic walk about around the estate . Spectacular beauty of Scotland , proud that my family is from there.
Hello Ruth! Thank you for this nice and interesting excursion. The way you have prepared and equipped your van is very clever and shows your ingenuity. It was funny to see the subtitles when visiting the distillery, however, I did not have any problems understanding what the gentleman in charge said. Having said that my wife, who is English, used to get surprised (and annoyed) when we watched Scottish TV series because she could not understand some of the actors but I had no problems despite being Italian! 😂😂😂 PS: You are not only a beautiful young lady but also a very smart one. You always look very dapper. Regards!
What do you think of this part of Scotland? I absolutely love Loch Muick and it looks spectacular at this time of year!
For those of you using subtitles for the videos, I am still working on them and they will be available on this video within the next 12 hours, sorry for the delay!

Thanks for the etymology lesson. I did wonder about that.
Presumably both words have the same origin if you go back far enough.
Interesting, I see connections with the Dutch word "kerk" and the German "Kirche"

I’m happy you can travel Scotland vicariously through the videos! ❤
I definitely need to come back and hike some of those hills!
Another great video Ruth! Looking forward to your next video.
Thanks so much Ian!
Yet another wonderful video! I visited the area many years ago but couldn't go into the Balmoral grounds as the queen was in residence. So lovely to 'visit' many years on.
Ah yes I think they close the whole grounds area when they are visiting!
New to your amazing channel Ruth. Been binging on some of your island trips and just love the solitude you find. Absolutely amazing. Wilderness and whisky. What a girl.
Welcome to the channel! Keep watching for more wilderness and whisky!! 🥃
ルースちゃん、久しぶり。元気でよかった。😊
ご訪問ありがとうございます!
Thanks so much! ❤
Thank you for fascinating video! Beautiful autumn views, castle, cairns and history. Piramid cairn was amazing.
Thanks!! I loved the cairn too!
This is a beautiful area, I'm so glad you showed it to us. You picked a great time of year to visit. Thanks.
I’m curious what the other four are 👀
@ Aviemore to Dufftown, Locations with standing stones or circles, Thurso (and the roads to get there), and Skye - so far. You’ve provided wonderful new location ideas to add to our list.
Love watching your videos.
You show some great places in Scotland. Thank you so much for sharing your adventures.
Take care and stay safe.😊
Thanks for watching!
I’d love to do some hikes there another time!
Another great video, thanks.
it is such a treat when your latest video arrives!
Thank you 😊
Hi there Ruth, another great video this was interesting and with your history the place was excellent. We love you friend ❤️ 🫶 🏴
Thanks so much! ❤
Every vlog you do Ruth is a wonderful watch, but I think this might be one of my favourites so far. The scenery & the atmosphere, especially in the Autumn weather is absolutely beautiful. I'll have to watch this again over the weekend. Thank you for sharing 😊
Thank you so much Erin! I love loch Muick! ❤
Brilliant as always R.
Thank you for another quality video of your gorgeous country. I enjoyed it very much. ❤
Glad you enjoyed it!
Oh happy day! Welcome back Ruth and thank you for this informative review. Oh my I would love to see Scotland - beautiful.
Thanks so much! 😊 I hope you can visit sometime.
Thank you so much for wasting, glad you liked this video! ❤
PS: You are not only a beautiful young lady but also a very smart one. You always look very dapper. Regards!
Thanks for watching!
People are always so friendly to you .. that is great you have a kind face though ..
Thank you, Ruth. I really want to go there now. 🙂
You should but please make sure you check the opening days and times of the Highlanders Bakehouse beforehand. Don’t make the same mistake as me!! 😂
@@ruthaisling Oh yes, that would be a mistake! 🥞🍥🥮🎂🍰🧁🥰
Another great video thanks again Ruth for taking me around with you 👍
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video. The autumn colors add to the magic of the place.
