My husband and I did just that when we were looking for a plot to build our house. We knew right away when we walked our lot. We had come to see the lot next door but feel in love with what we ended up bidding for. We have now been here 29 years. The land will speak to you. Good luck!

Back in 1995 we planned to move to the Highlands. My first thought after designing a home was to find a suitable plot of land to build on. What you have to think about is not just the view first and I did this. I looked at the ground, was it stony or just soil. Did it have good drainage. What was behind the land, level ground or a hill. Where is the local pylon for electricity. Where do I get water from. How far to builder's merchants for supplies. How far for food supplies. It is an endless list. Never found anything to tick all the boxes. In the end we bought a new built property half completed in a perfect location on the Black Isle.

Just got back from Scotland, but your videos are already making me want to be there again. That moment while you were driving and Gemma went 'Oh Scotland we love you', that's me everytime I'm over there and driving around.
The thought of you being able to buy a piece of land to make your home is making me excited for you guys. Hope you guys find what you are looking for, even if it isn't this year, take your time, pick the spot that's perfect for you.

Last time I went to the Kings house hotel at Glencoe we had a picnic and my husband gave the ducks a little bread then all of a sudden a duck jumped into the car while I was eating my sandwich😂 cheeky thing 😂 we didn’t see any stags on this occasion sadly, but definitely seen them in the past 😊 why don’t you buy a new camper van that will be warmer and buy a static caravan somewhere as a base 🤷‍♀️ that’s my input 😊 good luck in whatever you decide

Gemma, we are on the same wavelength. First thing i thought of was, a stream, could turn to a river, could flood the property. Views are nice. Campbell you need to ask about those trees, you don’t want them to visit your home one day. Do those containers come with the property. Storage. Garden sheds for your tools. Don’t forget, you can still jump into Ellie and take time away. ❤

I love the place with the river, you can generate your own electric, also on a slope can be so cool, from the road it looks single level but your other floors drop below without having to dig out.
Good luck whatever you decide on.

Hi Gemma and Campbell. What a fabulous video with all the exciting news about land. I have always thought that Loch Lomond was vastly underrated it is beautiful as is the other side of the Loch never mentioned very much. If it were me making a decision I would not goo to remote and keep close to friends and family. This is something that we have learnt over 40 years and 15 moves or so around the country and now we are closer to family that we have ever been! There is some very good advice in the comments made by others who have started with a plot of land etc, it will completely take over your life. All the best Crawford. PS You made me feel homesick again.

Haha welcome to the club. I have been looking at just about every piece of land for sale in the Highlands for the last few years. Hundreds of places and none that have ticked all my boxes yet.
I know exactly what I want and when it comes available it will be mine. I just need to wait a teeny bit longer. It will present itself just at the right time, it’s the way of the Universe 🙏🏼

I think it was Gemma that said there is no right time to buy a house, I'd say there is no wrong time. Before looking at anything I'd go talk to a bank or other lender to see if you can get a mortgage and for how much. Once you have a budget you can then start looking for something that you can afford and not have your heart broken by something you cannot. Also building is always more expensive than the quotes you get, to say nothing of tough on relationships. Good luck, no matter what you decide it will work out.

    Hari Om
Buying the plot is one thing; getting plans you can live with that produces something approaching budget (and always allow a 20% £££ contingency minimum), finding (and keeping) builders who can stick to those plans, adding the logistics for materials delivery... Arrochar makes the better sense of the two you showed today. Then the fact that it is likely to be at least 18 months, more like two years before building is complete. If you 'just want a home', then look for a house. Unless, of course, you just buy a plot and put up a barn then simply drive Ellie in and plug her in... How's that for straight talking from yer auld aunty??? YAM xx
