I know what you mean but as a former owner of a 2010 Daytona 675, I definitely didn't want to something like this. I now own an Aprilia RS 660 that I bought as a stop-gap until a new Daytona would be announced. I have to admit that the RS 660 is a way better value proposition than this Daytona and while looks are subjective, I think the RS 660 looks way better too, at least to me. I might be over-simplyfing but the Daytona has always been based on the Street Triple platform. While I had hoped that they would continue that, I sort of expected that they would go this route. The rs660 isn't listed as a competitor due to the fact that it's not A2 compliant. A2 compliant bikes can only have a maximum of 95hp that can be detuned to like 50hp for younger riders and the rs660 makes over the 95 max hp
I am a huge fan of triples (owned an mt09)... But with the growth of twins class racing it will be interesting to see how using a triple will effect sales vs the similar twins you can race
How they tarnished the legendary name is beyond me 😬 i understand they need to make money by selling "soft" bikes to youngsters on a2 license but good god they could have gave it another name... Its almost like if BMW were to call a 320 an m3.
Funny how this new Daytona is being called the softest and most relaxed compared to rivals when the old 675 has a reputation for being the most aggressive along with the R6. Agree with other comment about calling this the Sprint 660. Completely incomparably to the older iterations. Doesn't even look as nice to my eyes.
This bike is incredibly comparable to the older ones, the 675 was actually further from a true Daytona then this was as it was a ridiculously aggressive super sport. The Daytonas prior were always more street friendly sport bikes. The ergonomics and softness are almost identical to the Daytona 600 from the early 2000’s, and according to multiple reviews this handles better than that older 600…
Helpful review of the 660, thanks. Sorry to hear the steering sounds a bit heavy with the regular settings. Hopefully it can be adjusted by the rider for more agility. Nice bike.
Did anyone check the tyre pressures? Strange for Triumph to fail with the handling. Even the Trident feels pretty decent on relatively budget suspension.
In this segment I'd go RS660, best tech and it gets cruise which is really handy for longer rides, for some reason a lot of bikes still don't even have cruise as an option!
@@IN_ZANE_and every single Daytona other then the 675 and 765 moto2 were more street biased sports bikes as well, so how exactly did it ruin the Daytona name? I think too many of you have a short memory…
Yeah honestly, should have been called the Trident 660 R or RR or something similar. I get that they made a bunch of improvements to the Trident 660 to fit the characteristics of this bike but that's really what it is -- an upgraded Trident 660. Not that I am particularly looking for a bunch of electronics on the bike as someone who owned a Daytona 675 for 12 years but it certainly pales in comparison in terms of value for money with the competition, specifically Aprilia's RS 660, which I now own.
How does your RS660 compare to your old Daytona? Does it feel like a 'downgrade'? I've got a 675R and it's my dream bike, not sure what I'll eventually change it for, don't really want a litre sportbike.
@@kw4n1987 I LOVE the Daytona. I still do. But I wanted something I could ride for long distances and was really wanting something with a few rider comforts. I've taken the Daytona to the track several times and I just think it's hands-down the better of the two for me on the track. The RS 660 is nice on the track too but its foot pegs are too "comfortable" for track days, so I am getting aftermarket rearsets which should fix that problem. It'll allow me to change footpeg positions accordingly. If there is a single feature in the RS 660 I like, it has to be the cruise control. It's a sport bike with a not-too-agressive riding position and it's good enough for the track that I can still have fun with it. But I definitely miss the Daytona. If Triumph had made a slightly more comfortable Daytona based on the Street Triple 765 (not the Daytona Moto2 edition) I would 100% trade the RS 660 for it.
The 675 was further from a true Daytona than this was. The 600, 650, 955i, TT595 were all much more street friendly, softer sport bikes. If anything, this new Daytona goes back to true Daytona roots…
The Daytona 660 would suit someone like me who wants that little more sportiness, comfortable road bike. Though I completely 100% agree with the comments, it should have been called the Sprint 660 . Unless triumph now releases (soon) an RS model which is more track focused, the Daytona brand will of lost its soul.
i just came to know that Triumph sells Daytona Kit for Street Triples, but how to get them..?? there's no option of it on their website.... nowhere.... 🤔
I cant understand this guy's moaning about soft suspension, its a fookin' budget SPORTY bike, not "RR", and it's built down to a price, so WHAT more do you want?? Its made FOR REAL roads, which ARE BUMPY so you NEED softer suspension, so you dont trash your spine and kidneys!!
These journalists are all track riders, and these younger ones don’t remember the softer street oriented Daytona’s from the 90’s and early to mid 2000’s…
I presume its 93HP so it can be restricted to an A2 license? I know that the european market dictates alot of what goes on in motorcycling but I prefer if they didn't tailor the bikes power to specifically fit this demographic. If it'll make 110hp let it don't choke it up to fit a HP number so it can be restricted.
Judging by how quick the new Daytona is straight line I’m curious if Triumph is being a bit conservative on its hp/torque figures. It does 0-200 kmh in 12 seconds flat. To put into perspective the MT09 does it in 11.8. So it’s only 2 tenths slower than an MT09, which is a very quick bike… triumph does underscore their hp figures, the Street Triple RS is proof, it dyno’s 5 more whp stock then Triumph claims at the crank… and that does 0-200 in 11.3 seconds. So only 7 tenths behind a Street Triple RS…
They have simply repurposed Tiger sport 660, in a bid to milk the most out of that beautiful 660 power plant, which is ok, but that repurpose lacks the punch given that the changes are largely cosmetic (other than the 13 bhp boost to the TS 660 engine). What they should have done is to add all the bells and whistles that a screamer in the sports segment should have (electronics, suspension, and such)
Anyone know if triumph is going to make a true supersport? Like a Daytona 1200. I feel like the speed triple gets all of the time. I have a street triple 765R and would love to add to the stable but I’m not going backwards on power…
This bike has 93hp, the cbr650r has 94hp. The Aprilia had the same displacement as this bike and is its direct competitor. Why wouldn't they mention it?
@@Accost2u But it’s not though. There are at least three 600cc bikes with 100+ hp and then a few “new” 80 hp or lower non-sports bikes. This Triumph is more like a Ninja 650 than a ZX-6R. My point is that it’s unfair to group the RS 660 with the Triumph and the 8R. It’s better than that.
@@CS-pl8fc They didn’t mention the CBR650R nor did they mention the CBR600RR. Does this Triumph really have 93 hp? That’s well up on the Trident 660 it’s based on.
I was excited for the price and performance but after riding sport bikes for years I know it's gonna suck in handling. I hope they can evolve it into a 660R with adjustable suspension to challenge the RS660.
Idk, in a straight line the new Daytona is a lot quicker. 0-100 kmh in 3.1 seconds, 0-200 kmh in 12 seconds flat. That’s only .2 seconds slower than an MT09 in the 0-200 sprint, and it’s 2.4 seconds quicker then the RS660 and 4.2 seconds quicker then the CBR650R, it’s closest competition. For interstate commute like I have I would much prefer this Daytona… a little more leaned forward, excellent power plant…
@@sleeper.simulant7327 Not all aspects of what makes a particular motorcycle good can be boiled down to spec sheets. I guarantee the Suzuki will have heaps more grunt in the low and middle range, as well that meaty sound with an exhaust system. That's a lot different than a triple, regardless of actual numbers.
Where in the world could Carl be? The roads were dry and the sun was out. All day!!! I'm sure Triumph will upgrade suspension for next year's model. It doesn't cost more to supply 'properly damped' suspension as opposed to 'under-damped'. More adjustability can be added as an optional extra later on. But for now it seems they wanted something more comfortable (despite the sporty looks), and I would have loved to hear your opinion of it as a daily commuter bike.
Fair point about Daytona and how it doesn't live up to its name. However, the motorcycle is phenomenal for its price. Do you expect GT-R specs on a Nissan Z? You don't. It was very weird pointing out multiple times about soft suspension and chassis like you have no idea how much Daytona 660 costs. Of course it's a downgrade when you compare 8000 dollars motorcycle to 17000 dollars race ready motorcycles. Next time do a better comparison.
I’d take the Street Triple 765 for a better road bike, and a ZX6R/CBR600RR for a proper sportsbike. Not sure about this ‘Daytona’, especially going on this review.
I don't they have fucked it up it's based one of triumphs most successful bike's the trident 660 which out the previous Daytonas by a long way so it's making perfect sense . Hardcore sports don't sell many .
@ThomasDoubting5 I'm sure Triumph knows this will sell. He's one of the many haters who doesn't like the fact it's called a Daytona. I couldn't give a toss what they call it, if I was in the market, I would ride it and form an opinion on that and if it suits my needs. Rather than making a comment based on nothing but emotion.
I wonder who took the decision..."We should call this Daytona".... It will give us a lot of cred based on the actual supersport we once created. Darn we are smart. What they actual got...a destroyed name turned into something negative. And as a bonus, good luck google it if you look for the real Daytona. Well done...whoever you are ...

The Question is, are people buying 600 super sport bikes anymore? or is it a return to a fast sport bike that compromises for day to day work and equipment spec to get the price down, which is badly needed, everything is so very expensive these days. 95hp from a 660 with 12:1 compression, feels detuned to not compete with the street triple.
By just looking at it it's more competition against touno 660 then rs660 as it has typical sport-touring front with raised handlebars and touring screen. Think in my eyes that rs660 is a better option then this, expected more
Triumph Hinkley (Trinckley) at their best - selling fashion gear, but no pro tools. They made the odd mistake to bring the world the Daytona 675 that allowed them to play a round in the pro-segment, but now they got back to toast and marmelade.
So the Daytona was given the R6 treatment - replaced by something very different that really cannot be compared with the predecessor... Oh well, new CBR600RR is here!!
This Daytona 660 is almost identical to the Daytona 600 and 650 from the early to mid 2000’s in terms of ergonomics, it just makes a little less hp… even then the new 660 is very quick. It’s only .2 seconds slower in a 0-200 kmh sprint then an MT09…
Once again, it's really nice to see a faired bike, but i really hope Triumph makes a 765 with proper components for 2025. This bike is weaksauce in my opinion and 1000cc superbikes are to much power and to expensive, so i really hope we get a Daytona 765 to compete with the Yamaha R9 Is it so hard for manufacturers to built a proper faired sportbike with 130-160hp and high end components?!
What a shocker, a Triumph that doesn't handle, especially carrying the legendary Daytona name, it was gonna have to cream its rivals like the R7, GSX-8R and even the great little Aprilia RS660 to justify carrying the Daytona name , just look at the Street triple RS to see what Triumph is capable off, truly shocking!
The early Daytona’s were more street oriented, the more relaxed ergonomics of a 2004 Daytona 600 or 2006 Daytona 650 are basically identical to this bike…
Not for me I’m afraid I think I would be disappointed with it after owning a proper Daytona I don’t think it aimed at me more for the younger rider who maybe just passed a test I agree should not have the Daytona name just like the trident should not be a trident for me I have 1200RR that should have the trident name

Helpful review of the 660, thanks. Sorry to hear the steering sounds a bit heavy with the regular settings. Hopefully it can be adjusted by the rider for more agility. Nice bike.
Looks like nothing will replace my 09 cbr600rr maybe the Yamaha r9 won't disappoint idk 😶
Did anyone check the tyre pressures? Strange for Triumph to fail with the handling. Even the Trident feels pretty decent on relatively budget suspension.
Good news about the motor, Hopefully, continued development on the frame, springs and dampers will allow this bike to reach it's full potential
I think you just pushed me towards the street triple R. Shame, I will still test ride it but thanks for the honest balanced review.
Nice- waiting for MCN test with its rivals
Please Triumph make a bike to compete with the cbr and zx6
Something below the 765RS then
Baisically we all miss the 675 😅
In this segment I'd go RS660, best tech and it gets cruise which is really handy for longer rides, for some reason a lot of bikes still don't even have cruise as an option!
Nice riding, looking forward to the group test.
Triumph is really nailed it with 660 platform, love the bikes on it
Glad they mentioned zx4rr in the same category as the mid cc twins.
It's a commuter, not a sports bike
They set themselves up calling it Daytona
Also the Daytonas of old all had naked variants called Tridents. Memory appears to be short on a lot of people…
I test rode this yesterday and loved it but now after watching this I am beginning to think I should try the others too
The Daytona 660 would suit someone like me who wants that little more sportiness, comfortable road bike.
Though I completely 100% agree with the comments, it should have been called the Sprint 660 . Unless triumph now releases (soon) an RS model which is more track focused, the Daytona brand will of lost its soul.
GROUP. TEST. NOW. I expect it next week and won’t accept any delays.
Still waiting for that r9 for the triple engine and proper handling...
I think they forgot what a Daytona should be😂😢
Being a heavier rider (100+ kg), I actually like the suspension. I feel the ones in the competition are way too stiff for me.
i just came to know that Triumph sells Daytona Kit for Street Triples, but how to get them..?? there's no option of it on their website.... nowhere....
What would you recommend between the Daytona and a Ninja 650 for a 51 year old beginner??
Thanks in advance
Really nice, honest review.
They don’t have test riders to develop these bikes??
Increased inertia crankshaft?
Why did you mention the 100 hp Aprilia in the same breath as other 80 hp bikes? The Aprilia RS 660 is a lot more bike than this Triumph or the 8R.
Bc that’s the new sport class that’s replaced the 600 supersports that are now gone.
@@holylordofmadness6988the class is dead. The kawi and Honda are just face lifts of 10+ year old designs.
Triumph is currently developing a race kit for this bike with a third party company
the newer headlight design are getting weirder everyday.
Will have to hear more opinions, maybe toss in a group comparison, but based on this I'd say the GSX-8R is a big winner.
Another misfire for me. A bike like this was a middle weight commuter back in the day. Not much more than a cbr600f. Id rather an older litre bike.
There are other reviews online that look into this more...
@@AS-ox2nl Thanks. Any particular channel you would suggest?
Those clocks look so cheap compared to just about every other bike in this sector. They also fit them to the street triple R. 😢
Not sure about this ‘Daytona’, especially going on this review.
triumph f*cked this one up real bad
Have you ridden it then?
Opening the way for another 765 Daytona...especially with a R9 confirmed
I don't they have fucked it up it's based one of triumphs most successful bike's the trident 660 which out the previous Daytonas by a long way so it's making perfect sense . Hardcore sports don't sell many .
@ThomasDoubting5 I'm sure Triumph knows this will sell. He's one of the many haters who doesn't like the fact it's called a Daytona. I couldn't give a toss what they call it, if I was in the market, I would ride it and form an opinion on that and if it suits my needs. Rather than making a comment based on nothing but emotion.
So sure of what a bike's like on an MCN review.😂🤣😂
Are these quicker than the r7?
Lovely looking bike, would love to get one for my bro.
This is a HUGE disappointment to me.
I’d buy something way more interesting (like the Aprilia or the zx4rr if they sold it where I live).
I love the sound
Is this bike's handling that much worse than the TS660? MCN said the TS660 was great?
I wonder who took the decision..."We should call this Daytona"....
It will give us a lot of cred based on the actual supersport we once created. Darn we are smart.
What they actual got...a destroyed name turned into something negative. And as a bonus, good luck google it if you look for the real Daytona. Well done...whoever you are ...
So the trident handles better?
Wouldn't look out of place with an L plate on it tbh, sorry, not a patch on the old 675 classic
🇬🇧🤔😳hey dude I took one out today found it agile high saddle front brakes a bit Snatchy back brakes spongey indicator buttons a bit awkward tingling in my right hand 🫱 engine running fast but after those moans a great fun bike I only did a 2 hrs and on dry conditions Michelins tyres 🛞 were good 👍 would I buy one if had the cash 💵 spare mmh 🤔I would play safe and go for the 400 speed twin or 900 etc which I tried totally different bikes b safe everyone those rds but bad peace be with y’ll without prejudice 🙏👍
So a disappointment on wheels. Got it!
RS 660 is way more expensive compared to R7/CBR/Ninja 650 or this. But also the only one that comes with adjustable suspension.
How does it compare to gsx 8r
The Question is, are people buying 600 super sport bikes anymore? or is it a return to a fast sport bike that compromises for day to day work and equipment spec to get the price down, which is badly needed, everything is so very expensive these days. 95hp from a 660 with 12:1 compression, feels detuned to not compete with the street triple.
Thanks for the honest review! Sounds like the Aprilia RS 660 is still the stand out of the class
I'd take all the competition over this
Same except the ninja and r7
By just looking at it it's more competition against touno 660 then rs660 as it has typical sport-touring front with raised handlebars and touring screen. Think in my eyes that rs660 is a better option then this, expected more
R/S incoming?
It seems very low in the back just from the looks. Nothing a different shock cannot cure but this is not how these games are played I am afraid :D
Sounds like a 5/10th riding bike.
This bike is weaksauce in my opinion and 1000cc superbikes are to much power and to expensive, so i really hope we get a Daytona 765 to compete with the Yamaha R9
Is it so hard for manufacturers to built a proper faired sportbike with 130-160hp and high end components?!
And the clip-ons are attached to the triple tree. That sucks. Its nothing in common with a Daytona besides the 3cly motor. Why😢
That's a first! A free lunch and finding faults with the bike.🤣
Not for me I’m afraid I think I would be disappointed with it after owning a proper Daytona I don’t think it aimed at me more for the younger rider who maybe just passed a test I agree should not have the Daytona name just like the trident should not be a trident for me I have 1200RR that should have the trident name
Hmm, this seems weird, Triumph usually makes a good job with budget parts. It's strange that the motor is so good but the chassis poor. Also crap gearbox, i wonder if you got an abused test mule?
