Hi Chris, thx for your tips, two days ago had to paint my car with silver metallic in my garage, used wet bed with same product following your steps, 3 base coats , first one wet with blender, after 10 minutes, second coat wet , and later last a drop coat 18 psi and moved the gun away, job came without issues regarding coverage, again thanks for your videos.
You Finally straighten me out on what a clear base. It’s a blending agent. The same term can be called other things by someone else. Thank you bunch’s.
I enjoy the down to earth simple approach you have to explaining your processes and the fact you’re not full of yourself. Keep it simple and full of information and we will continue to support you best we can.
Great video, i love that you show every issue and mistake and how to deal with it. i have a stupid question, so you paint your first coat of base or clear right, then while that's flashing off what happens to the left over paint sitting in the gun? is that still ok to be used for the second coat or is it thrown out and a new batch mixed for each coat?
Hi Chris, I really enjoyed the video and learned a lot. Seems like you were fighting dust particles more than usual but those are the challenges in an open garage which most DIY's will be facing. By you showing the process of stopping fixing and moving on it helps a lot. This time of year it's tough as there is so much stuff in the air from leaf particles, dust from fields and dead grass. Take a black glass stove top and clean it. Watch the dust land back on it :). The big issue for me is the fiberglass insulation up on the roof rafters. I will do what you have done. It looks like you have plastic up above where you paint. Cheap way to attract and hold fiberglass particles. GOOD ONE!
Hi Chris, beautiful job on this one the hood looks amazing with a perfect OEM peel finish👌as always a very detailed explanation of what you are doing at each step. I remember my first silver and as you pointed out on the hood I could see stripes in the wet basecoat which concerned me at the time but I know these days it's going to be fine once it's flashed off. Thanks for doing this Chris you are a pure inspiration to others👏🙏👍John UK
I must say a big respect to you . I started earning more because of you my friend. I really appreciate your videos keep up the good work. Blessings from jamaica 🇯🇲
This video was particularly helpful. I was wondering if the LVLP guns were good for silver metallics. Thumbs up! I had one delivered just today and look forward to using it, Phillip Hall
Great videos, I like that you are a straight forward person, what tip size or Nozzle Needle size does my R500 needs for phantom gray base coat? it's a dark grey metallic from toyota. please let me know.
Is the wet bed needed for every coat of base? That's the only thing I'm not clear on. Besides that, awesome video man. I'll be painting some replacement parts for my car and it'll be the first time ever
I guess I do that because a hood can hold more material so I can slow down and hit it a bit harder. If you do that on a side panel it's more likely to run.
@@GarageNoise ok thanks. I am spraying my truck first ever painting and ill have the hood flat and the doors off should i paint the doors standing up or flat, its a green metallic paint, thanks for replying back!!
@@kevinc5917 hey no problem, I'd paint them standing up. You might be able to get a flatter finish if you paint them flat but will definitely get more trash in the job. Send me pics of the resultd a garagenoise247@gmail.com
What i find that gives you stripes to is if your pressure is to high at the wall regulator. I ajust my pressure at the wall regulator so the gun regulator pressure is wide open. I'll just make small adjustments at the gun
My tip would be if you do 3 coats of base start the first from front to back, second across the hood and third coat front to back again. Ending the same direction you spray the top of the fender. Another thing you can do is drop coat on the last coat just a touch to prevent mottling but still a smooth finish. If blending, use a step warmer on reducer.
New to this channel as well as this trade for that matter. You have a way of explaining things a noob like me can understand. I will be watching plenty of your content. Also, have you ever considered one of them inflatable booths on amazon or ebay? Im wanting one soon and im curious whats your opinion on that with a low pressure turbine system
I'm using that color blender to mix color flip pearls on a couple jobs. I treat it more like cheap basecoat and do a 2 to 1 mix. But I am using the turbine and a 1.0 to spray it.Way too thick. I will end up with bad texture otherwise. I don't mind, because diluting the blender stretches the product so it lasts longer...
Great job 👍🏻 Sir, Now I have used Aeropro A610 Lvlp spray gun for Auto paint, compare to Rongpeng R500 Lvlp gun which do you think is better for small air compressor?. Can you give me advice?
Hi what sort of paint are you guys using? I was thinking of using rustoleum through the r500 but to me it’s quite a soft paint or could I use it with a UPOL clear coat on top?

Finish 1 makes a over all clearcoat the fc720 the difference in a overall and a spot panel fc710 is that it cure a bit slower in order for you to paint a full vehicle and still have good flow while painting. Appreciate your comment and support!
If using a lvlp gun, why do you use high psi? You use 25psi and 30 to 35 psi. Is that normal for single stage or is that for base coat and clear coat only. Thank you
It appears you are using 3M PPS 1.0 series filter in blue so I assume you are using water borne paint.I believe if it were solvent paint you would be using white filters. Question: If you are using solvent paint but only have blue filters is this a problem or should one just remove the blue filter screen and then just use normal papers filters? Thanks.
@@GarageNoise Yes the blue is 125 micron for water born and the white is 200 microns for solvent. This applies both for 3M original 1.0 Legacy and the new 2.0 series cups and liners. Does not seem to causing you any issues but some say to cut the blue filter out and just use old paper filters...
I always feel the grit of sealer, and think, that's going to soak up the paint, not matching sanded area? Just an opinion. I mostly watching the texture, weather it's base, clear, latex in a home spraying. All about consistence for a flat uniform finish. I leave some gun cleaner in the gun, between sprays and for storage. Is this a bad idea?
I’m painting my car in a non-original complex silver (GM Silver flare metallic). Can you please confirm I have my steps down? 1. Primer sealer 2. Do I need clear base? 3. Base coat 4. Clear Since I’m painting the whole car, do I need to/should I remove the panels from the car or just do it all in one go on the car to maintain uniformity?
I would make sure you're using a slow reducer. Because it's silver, you want to make sure you prep it out with a 600 grit. Sandpaper. You won't necessarily need a clear base if you're painting the entire vehicle, and with the temperatures as cool as they are. But you definitely want to seal it. Apply your base coat, apply your clear coat. If you have any more questions, let me know
@@GarageNoise I’m using/already bought a medium reducer (65-75*). I can warm up my garage to that temp range. Am I ok to still use it or should I try and get a slow reducer still? I am willing to go get slow if it really makes a difference. My garage is dirty from a lot of sanding so I’m worried about dust nibs from a slow reducer but I know I can always nib them out. I am planning to use the cheap $16 HF HVLP gun to lay the primer sealer down. I have an ANI compact to lay the base/clear since I only have a 27gal (5.1cfm) compressor. Any objections to the HF gun with the primer/sealer?
@@GarageNoise in regard to the video you linked. My paint is actually a 2 stage. The pearl is in the base so it should lay out like a normal paint job.
I have l5 lvlp guns from different sellers but they're all the same gun just rebranded. The a610 and the yt-160 do have a updated appearance but the same gun internals. I like the yt-160 the best just because the color cleans up better that the black a610.
I didn't really have any hassle. Unless you mean the solvent fisheyes. That is just something that can happen and it happens with sealer too. I'm not apposed to using sealer just sometimes it's not necessary. Appreciate the comment and support!
After primer, we wet sand to 800, then grey scuff pad with presto scuff stuff. Then sealer, especially with silver we soft pad 1000 on the sealer, alcohol then wipe, tack rag, then spray 2 coats of base then drop coat. Sealer isn’t always necessary, but using the correct sealer will make silver base match near perfectly.
