- I spent $14.99 so that I could finally play Super Mario Odyssey the way it was meant to be played. Following along the prima games official strategy guide to beat Mario Odyssey as fast as possible. But what if instead... I also tried a bootleg guide?

it tells you you can do it because of the koopa freerunning thing. if youre reading a book about a game to learn more about the game i doubt they would know about that
I'm pretty sure the weird blurb about the starburst symbol in Lost Kingdom is actually in the in-game pamphlet describing the Lost Kingdom. I have read those things way too many times lol.
Yeah I realized at some point in the run that a lot of the blurbs at the very beginning of each section are just taken directly from the game. It made reading them a lot less exciting haha

@@SuperJman1111 Yeah I know, I was there for the channel, and I've known that saying a lot longer than Unus Annus, but my original sentence still holds, because it still looks like there's a bunch of weird people just commenting Memento Mori on their post and they have no idea why and we all know it's because of the Spiral

This brings back memories of perusing the Super Mario Galaxy Prima Guide and admiring at how useful and yet completely unhelpful it was, especially with the Luncheon fiasco
Prima guides have always been made by people that never played the game and heard a 5 year old describe watching their dad play it
@@arzfan29 speak for yourself. i got the prima guide for skyward sword and it was probably the single most helpful book I have purchased.

Smallant did the intended way, cjya just tried to beat the game as slow as possible under speedrun rules, which includes beating it as intended
Came in trying to figure out how to rig the casino in Dragon Quest 11, and I learnt that all that matters is memorizing Bowsers moves in Mario Odyssey! Truly never been more content. 10/10 guide.
I love how he used Puzzle Plank Galaxy music exactly when he was describing the starburst symbol, since it was heavily used in that galaxy on buttons, planks, and pillars just like Lost Kingdom.
I thought you were gonna use Assist Mode during the run in which that’s what Nintendo actually intended.
SmallAnt has done that. But you use the Super Mario Odyssey Guidebooks to beat the game. Big difference.
I think CJ is gonna do the same challenge but combine both Assist Mode & The Guidebook.

Honestly this kinda makes me want to write one of these books. I feel like I could do a pretty good job walking a player through the main game and also mentioning extra stuff they can do if they want to. Maybe I could even have a speedrun section!
For Odyssey, I think each kingdom would get three different sections:
1. So you want to do world peace? OK, go this way, and here are a few easy extra moons along the way to get you to the quota.
2. So you don't like this kingdom and want to see the next one? OK, here's the minimum-effort easy moon route to hit the quota as soon as possible.
3. So you want to get *_everything?_* OK, here's a full glossary of every moon and purple coin in this kingdom, with descriptions of exactly how to get each one, cross-referenced with a map of course.
That's not counting the speedrun route/strat guides for the kingdoms, which I would put separately at the end of the book. Multiple categories, even.

Fun fact about the Prima Guides. I don't know if it is changed in the second revision or not, but in the 1st revision of the (german) galaxy 2 guide, there are some Green Stars simply wrongly placed and the descriptions were also effected.
The following Green Stars were effected...
- Upside Dizzy Galaxy Green Star 2
- Clockwork Ruins Galaxy Green Star 2
- Mario Squared Galaxy Green Star 1
That indicates, that they were given an pre-release/early build for writing the guide.

Hmm yes, patience and speed, two things which definitely don't directly conflict with each other.
Classic Prima, getting small things wrong that make progression more difficult if you're relying on the guide. Though for what it's worth, the Galaxy 2 one only didn't include the secret 1-Ups in Rightside Down Galaxy and I didn't really have an issue finishing it (some Stars were hard, though).
Not gonna lie, the first time I saw your video on hide and seek, I totally thought I was seeing just another streamer. I was wrong then and found out, and every single time I see you on a video, I am even more embarrassed at how wrong I was that you were going to just be another streamer. My friend introduced me to this game at his house, and I bought and red the full book, before even playing the game on my switch

The bootleg guidebook felt like someone wanted to make an smo guidebook, but gave up once they reached Metro, but for some reason published it still. Either that or your copy of the book was missing a "few" words.

back when my parents still bought me games, they usually grabbed the official guidebook for them too.
i have them for SMG2, SM3DL/W, SSB4, and a couple more.
unlike all the other ones, I _never_ read the one for SMO.
