Sapphire crystal is a great deal esp for established watch brands. Most Seiko much higher-price auto diver's watches do not even willing to provide sapphire crystal. Kamasu beats legendary SKX hands down, even beating most Seiko higher range auto diver's.

I have both the Ray II (blue) and Kamasu (green/teal). This review is a very accurate assessment of the two watches. My Ray II is the first modern mechanical watch I purchased when I started collecting. (I have plenty of quartz watches.) Unless a person is on a tight budget, I would recommend the Kamasu over the Ray II. The superior bezel and sapphire crystal would be enough for me to justify the higher price. I also greatly prefer having a complete set of minute marking on the bezel.

I have my blue dial Kamasu for a year, and simply is a great and robust watch. Dial with indices looks like it is from a 2000$ watch, and under macro is immaculate. The movement F6922 actually has a chronometer accuracy, but with a caveat. Mine Kamasu was delivered with a faulty mainspring barell which made watch go +60 s/d when on arm. I activated the warranty, and they fixed the issue, I payed addional ca. 20$ for the watch to be fine regulated, and now it runs +2 s/d under all conditions. The thing is that the movement in the factory is regulated by setting the arm to a default position, without any further fine regulation. But the positional error is less than 10 s/d for the worst case, and isochronism is negligable. Thus, after fine manual regulation, the Kamasu is running extremely accurate, whic is remarkable for that price range.

I've had my green Orient Komatsu now for a little over a year and I am super rough on watches and there's not a scratch on the case, bezel or crystal, And I have banged it all over stuff. There are just a few scratches on the band. I just love this watch. It keeps almost accurate time. I have to adjust it maybe once a month about three minutes back. Also the color on this watch when it hits the light is phenomenal.

That’s good to know I just bought this in blue. I deliver for Amazon and need lume that lasts 3/hrs past sunset. Knowing it’s sapphire and that you’ve tested it makes me feel I made the right choice. I was going to get a Pagani or San Martin but this being a trusted brand with sapphire sealed the deal for me. My first automatic watch and I’ve heard you can break the movement if you set watch at the wrong time?

Great video - touched on all the important aspects of this watch. You have to really like this dial and hands more than the Ray2\Mako2 to justify the extra costs. Plus Kamasu comes in dial colors not seen on those watches. Someone could upgrade crystal themselves on Ray2\Mako2 and still pay less than Kamasu. The Orient Kano costs less and is also a great watch with similar indices and hands but no sapphire and is larger at 44mm

Looks like after switching the model numbering to RA-/RN- and adding its own name on the casebacks, Epson really started the true Orient's revival. They also upgraded all their non-Tristar mechs to F6x22 movements which are on par with, if not more accurate than Seiko's 4R3x/NH3x. On Tristars, they finally made their dials quite pleasant to look at. Orient now vs. Orient even 5 years ago look like two completely different brands. And I like what it is now.

I wear it regularly and it has become one of my favorite watches. I also on the Ray II. The Kamasu has incredible lume which I think you failed to really point out. thanks for the video. about a year ago i was looking for a beater watch and was considering the ray, mako or kamasu. ended up with the mako because of the numerals on the dial. i don't hink there is wrong answer here. the non-sapphire crystal is not a bige deal, i abuse this watch at the gym and at work and do not have any scatches on the dial.....the bracelet and clasp do suck though.

I have the burgendy/wine model. The only thing that let's it down - which is not mentioned in you review - is the crown winder. It's ridiculously undersized and if you're not very careful to make sure it's fully screwed in could lead to disaster if underwater. Other than that it's a great watch.

Interesting to listen to a watch "critic."
I've been collecting Japanese classical guitars for several years and they cam be made from woods from the same tree and be totally different. Compound that with international treaties since 1991 that prohibit export of endangered wood species, especially from 1000 year old trees from the Amazon and African ebony and you have tricky featires for choosy collectors to consider. Old wood guitars vibrate differently than guitars built from 20 year-old farmed woods. In comparison to the watch market, guitars, violins, guitars and other organic collectibles are night and day from watches where reviewers trot out identical features and benefits. I see watch collectors as merely consumers of mass produced products and not discerning analyzers of art and mastery of craft like fine artists and makers of one-off pieces, even if they have been categorized in a class as a Ramirez 1a or Nobe 50.

Sometimes I feel like the only person who likes hollow end links. Solid end links add weight to the watch.

My thought if wanting blue or black I'd probably just get a RayII, If wanting one of the new cool colors the Kamasu has some cool options.

I prefer my Ray II because of the round indices, but I did add a sapphire AR crystal. I also added a con edge bezel with a ceramic Bat Man insert, then added a Uncle Seiko
Razor wire bracelet. Will always stay in my small collection. Thanks Guy

I like the watch not love the watch. The bezel doesn't line up and it keeps the worst time of all my watches including twenty Vostoks.. The dial and hands are very well finished even under macro...

Doing 22mm width bracelet is a big design flaw. They lost me because of this and the "water resist" text, just looks way too cheap.

I got the blue dial and switched out the shyte band for one from Long Island Watch. Can’t imagine a better diver at anywhere near this price point, even with the extra $75 I spent on band replacement.
