Filipinos are known to be strong people. Our country may not be rich but we don't like other countries to look down on us. We even try to help other nation from the little that we have. And we are strongly against racism. This is the whole point. The issue is now being tackled and I hope it brings awareness and let us learn from this.

As a Filipina I accept their apology because hate cannot drive out hate, Only Love can do. 2020 is too much, it's a tough year for us so spread love not hate..

This is a difficult conversation that all we must have. If there is one good thing about this #cancelKorea movement, it opens a can of worms...a topic that we all tried to avoid - open a discussion about "Racisms and discriminations in Asia". In my curiosity, I went around threads of #cancelKorea which is trending also in some other parts of Asia and googled translate the conversations. The theme is pretty much the same, our Asians brothers and sisters share the same sentiments and experiences from South Koreans...bullying and discriminations. This #cancelKorea movement did not happen overnight, it is an accumulation of negative experiences by our people.

Fun fact: There were many Japanese officers and soldiers who were kind and friendly with the Filipinos during the occupation. A lot of Filipinos actually state that it was the Korean conscripts who were way more cruel and worse than the Japanese Imperials.

There was an issue with the use of the Asahi Flag in the upcoming Olympics in Japan. South Koreans protested it and petitioned against it. However, the Olympic committee made a statement that the Olympics is not a political event and therefore it will not ban the use of the rising sun flag. Bella is from Hawaii and it is not banned over there and a not an unusual thing to see. The flag might strike a very sensitive part of South Koreans but they can not impose on everyone whether to ban it or not. The Rising flag has been used by Japan for centuries as a national symbol way before WW2 whereas the Swastika was used by the Nazi when they were only in power. The Swastika is now banned in Germany but the Asahi flag is still widely used in Japan to symbolize luck and prosperity. I am not saying that Korea or Japan is wrong, I am just stating my observations.

We are more than that! Our society is simply very toxic and we don't need to just go with the flow while losing our morale and respect to all! We give back thru love and understanding. The tattoo I saw is more of like the shining heart of jesus christ and it just so happened that the rays resembles that of the rising sun. And even so, I would understand if Bella is Korean which makes her insensitive in that sense. This sign may be taboo for Koreans but who are we to adjust just because they taught so still not move on with the past and instill their grudges towards Japan. Bella doesnt even need to apologize for it but she did and inspite of that, 'some' Korean netizens generalized it and that triggered everything.

Thanks Leya for sharing this video to raise awareness. I'm Filipino and the Korean who replied back to the comments made a very mature response which both Filipinos and Koreans who were offended should do their research as well as to not get swept by emotions right away. I'm touched by the Koreans who didn't do anything wrong but still ask for an apology for their countrymen speaks volumes on how good their character is in general.
Filipino's should take the high road regardless of the situation. Honestly, we're as bad as the negative people in the world in terms of racism. We even include that in our jokes and because there are a lot of movement and awareness being shared throughout social media and I'm starting to realize that we should end this type of mentality. It's alright to point out or call out someone when they make mistakes but we shouldn't spout hateful words especially if we don't know much about this person. What I'm trying to point out here that making generalized hateful remarks actually made matters worse.
We all can be better individuals and make meaningful interactions with other races by being courteous and decent with everyone. We should be mindful of how we think so that we can fix it before we could act brash towards something we would regret in the end. We already have so much bad experience throughout this year, let's try not to make it much worse. I hope we learn a lesson from this situation and grow into better human beings.

Honestly my opinion is whaaaaat??? Why Bella need to apology ??

We Filipinos or other nations are not required to know your Korean history it's your own history, not ours we respect your history but it doesn't give you the rights, to look down to our country because we don't know your history does Koreans know the Philippines history? Koreans should also know that Koreans were drafted into the Japanese army during the war and they were even extremely cruel. those babies who were tossed into the air and met with bayonets, who knows it could be them who did that. in fact, a high ranking korean officer of the Japanese army was executed after the war for war crimes against the Filipinos and american POWs. after that, Filipinos forgot about it, they forgave and even sent Filipino soldiers to help them fight their war. but now, what? they look down on Filipinos...

Nowadays they act like you should know everything: the history, the slang , bad words, etc....Like what’s the point of school when you are expected to know everything and this are coming from people who didn’t want to go to school. This why our culture today is disgusting and instead of promoting cancelling of one another, we should cancel “cancel culture”.

For those Koreans who hated the tattoo, you can just simply unfollow Bella... We all have our own sentiments regarding our own history... If you are one of those who have that much sensitivity over the Japanese war flag, I hope you can also try to understand that NOT all countries invaded by the Japanese soldiers have that much hatred esp in these recent times... This issue proves that knowledge of world history is so IMPORTANT & RELEVANT. History has created symbols, gestures, words, beliefs, et.al, that evoke powerful emotions both positive and negative. Images that today may denote evil and intolerance. I cringe every time I see or hear these symbols or words being used recklessly by people young and old. People who have little or no knowledge of, or have a seriously wrong view or version of history. People who are racist, misinformed, or so poorly educated that they could not know any better. There is, however, still hope. We have all the modern tools, gadgets, and information media we need to better educate ourselves and learn other people's history and culture. This would help us to be more UNDERSTANDING and TOLERANT of other world cultures, and be a better world citizen.

Filipinos are generally looked down on since the Country's state / image reflects on its people as the product of their efforts. The average people are in fact frustrated about the state of our country as well. The corruption, the desparation and backwardness. But due to this, Filipinos have got quite resilient spirits, learns to stay happy in times of calamities and we are well known to be the most Emphatic race in the world which really makes a difference in some jobs such as nurses, teachers, customer service. We understand suffering. Its just unfair we are generalized as lesser beings due to politics (both local & foreign) and the faults of leaders

Make SEPTEMBER the PHILIPPINE- KOREA Friendship Month!
You are helping heal the strained relationship between Philippines and Korea caused by this unfortunate incident which ironically I believe will ultimately strengthen the bond between the 2 countries because both countries will realize the goodness of each country’s people and will appreciate each other more. Maybe more so from the Koreans than the Filipinos coz I understand that many Filipinos already have a deep appreciation of the Korean culture. I hope both countries will take this opportunity to increase discussions that will promote goodwill and better understanding if not just appreciation of each other’s culture. I hope the 2 governments will create some kind of goodwill ambassadorship programs with the youth from both countries and designate September as Philippine- Korean Friendship month! I think that should be the HEADLINE and YOUR MISSION for the rest of the month! You will be surprised how positively FiLipinos will welcome this! Since you are in the Philippines already, gather all your friends both Koreans and Filipinos and create a Philippine Korean Friendship Celebration THIS WEEKEND and show the YOUTH of both countries celebrating!!! That will create a HUGE IMPACT not just the both countries but THE WORLD that LOVE and FRIENDSHIP NO HATE will prevail! That’s your mission! Make history!

I think its important to have positive thoughts but I think what is more important are positive informed thoughts. People always immerse themselves in shallow positivity and easily condemn bad things even though they dont understand the deeper meaning behind it. So to give context to what is going on, the reason why Filipinos are not as affected by the Rising Sun Flag as much as Koreans is because Korea and China has an active territorial disputes with Japan over Dokdo and Diaoyu. In the Philippines we have an active dispute with China over the Spratlys. Whenever Japan flexes its military muscle over China, because of our claim over the Spratlys the Rising Sun flag has less of a negative meaning to us Filipinos and almost becomes a sign of resistance against China’s expansion.
