As a Thai engineer, let me explain about undergrounding the power lines. Bangkok has had a plan to underground power lines and communication lines for a long time (over 20 years) and has been doing so for over 10 years. It didn’t just start 5-6 years ago or because a foreign celebrity made a parody clip. But the process is complicated and takes longer than most people think. 1. There must be a law to force new buildings to have special equipment for underground systems. 2. The law is not retroactive and can be applied to buildings that request permission to build new buildings. The old ones must wait for renovations or be removed because they have expired. 3. Underground power line installation, including tunnel drilling, installation of stations for equipment such as transformers (different from those hanging on poles), RMU, and various control systems, requires a lot of time and budget. 4. Creating a plan to define work zones to avoid impacts on traffic and people’s way of life. 5. Integrating the plans of all relevant systems to be ready when the time comes to change the system without affecting usage. All steps were just completed and ready (in some areas) 3-4 years ago, so we started to see the elimination of messy power lines and communication lines. And can start to remove the electric poles and will continue to cover all areas of Bangkok. I emphasize that the plan and the implementation have been in place for more than 20 years, not just recently.
Nice explanation. All communication lines have been mistaken as power lines. The thing is the government at the time allowed all the messy lines hanging just to make a profit from private companies. Then created the messy lines just to spend money solving it.
Absolute BS. Sathon, Rama IV and Wireless road still look like shanty-towns with crazy wires all over the place. They've been working on Wireless road for the past 7 years and still unable to bring the power lines/communication wires underground. At this rate, it will take another 100 years for them to finish their project. I mean they take at least 5-10 years to do one single road. That's far too long. Rama 3 alone has been under work for the past 10 years. Not acceptable.
Because people value and respect living beings first overriding race, color, and wealth....and it is still at odds with classism or Americanism we are infected on a day-to-day basis. Since the law official sucks, the grassroots locals take matters into their own hands and we are driven by the power of berating. :)
great clip guys - With your backgrounds you seem to have been able to fast track a lot of the deeper understanding/ appreciation of this place that many other foreigners miss
7:25 FUN FACT : Almost all the cables you see on the power lines aren't actually power lines. There are fewer than 10 actual electrical wires (Locate at the top of the pole). The rest is mostly fiber optic cables, about 80%, with the remainder being copper and cable TV lines.
I have been following this channel for a while now. Thank you for visiting Thailand. If things are not good, we try to find a way to improve them. Hope you guy the best
In the next 5-7 years BKK may be on par to Singapore because most metro lines will be completely built. There is a mix of developed and underdeveloped areas right now. Also, those underground power line projects were started 5-6 years ago by an unelected government, however it will take years to complete. Politicians just can't get the job done because they're so corrupted. I can tell you that no other countries in the world will allow Chinese immigrants to thrive and integrate so well into society like Thailand did. Unlike Malaysia or Indonesia, Thai chinese can have the same equal rights to the local on everything, including politics. That's why Thailand has the most overseas chinese in the world. Thais also don't need any westerners to teach them on racism or LGBTQ rights. They respect everyone as long as you respect their culture.

@singhal3eel279 According to the Standard, underground power line projects started 40 years ago, but from 1964- 2014, only 35 km was completed. From 2014-2017 , 12 km was completed. From 2017, the government announced the campaign to make Bangkok the capital of Asean, aiming to complete 440 km more in 2024 by NBTC(กสทช) and 220 km by MEA(กฟน) in 2027. These are government agencies, not Bangkok's governor office.
It helps that Thai-Chinese all but totally shed their Chinese identity, losing their Chinese names and tongue and going totally Thai; the "Chinese" is basically a note of ancestry much like how whites in America might trace German or Irish roots but would have to actively study their heritage past childhood. It's really more a point of pride for Mainlander Chinese than for the Thai-Chinese themselves.
im a chinese thai from a middle class family. did taekwondo back in my high school years. originally wanted to join a muaythai gym but my mother didn't allow me to. she thought it was muaythai was brutal.
Krung Thep and Thailand in general is a amazing place, people, especially in the western countries, have so much preconceived perspectives of Thailand and Krung Thep and are usually surprised by the modern, safe and vibrant the city is. The slower lifestyle of the country is a very welcome change to the city. For your reference Krung Thep is actually larger than my home island of O’ahu.
Thank you for the amazing videos, you guys are awesome! Stay safe out there! Thailand truly has such a unique culture and vibe. Fun fact: Thai, part of the Tai linguistic family, has roots in southern China and is closely related to Zhuang the second largest ethnic group in China after the Han. The Proto-Tai core lexicon is believed to be 60-70% derived from Old Chinese. Beneath the vibrant Buddhist traditions of Thailand native Tai customs persist, influenced by Hua Xia culture. -Ser Muang (พระเสื้อเมือง) derives from the Hua Xia term Ser (社) meaning ancestral shrines, which are common across Bangkok. The Tai people have long practiced ancestor worship believing ancestors become protective spirits much like patron saints, a tradition dating back to China’s Spring and Autumn Period (770-476 B.C.). Similarly Lak Muang or city pillars are found throughout Bangkok and are thought to house guardian spirits. -Liang Tay Liang Taen, the worship of the gods Tay and Taen is an ancient Tai-Thai practice with roots in the Zhou Dynasty. Linked to Tien Di (天帝) and Tay Yi (太一). Sacrifices are offered annually during the lunar months of Jieng (เจียง) or Yee (ยี่). This is also called len jieng len yee, celebrating the January and February Festival. -The spoken languages of Wu (句吳) and Yue (於越) during the Spring and Autumn Period are thought to be related to proto-Kra-Dai. The “Song of the Yue Boatman” (越人歌) widely recognized as the earliest “translated” poem in Chinese history, was deciphered using Zhuang and Thai.
Against your VIEWs: #0: Thai, Laotian or any spoken Tai speakers are grouped as a sub-genre subject to a big umbrella of Tai-Kadai Lingustic Family #1: Thai language is not CLOSELY or the CLOSET related to Sinic-Tai used by Zhuang majority in QuangXi, just many generations transmitted in every new genetic mixed up to your ancestor's migration through any ethnicity of region southernward. #2: Pls check if your stats are obsolete or not, Ex: Hmong, Mien and other groups inhabituated far away from the origin are called as Tai-KadaiLingFam: Kadai branch ที่พบในไทยหรือในที่สูงทั้วภูมิภาค ยกเว้นในลาว เวียดนามที่เชือมติดกับกวางสีของจีน is blockaged by Sino-Tibetan: Chineses: Sinic-Kadai โดยคนจ้วงหรือกลุ่มคนพูดไตในจีน ซึงมีความใกล้ชิดกับ Austro-Kadai: Thii, TAY, DAO ในลาว และเวียดนาม มากกว่าชาตืพันธทีพูดไต ในเพชรบุรี #3: รหัสพันธุกรรมสำคัญในไมโทรคอนเดรียทีมีในผู้หญิงบอกได้ว่า Proto-Thai คือชาติพันธใด เข้ามาผสมเมื่อใด เช่นบรรพบุรุษร่วมของคนไทยคตือ Mon #4: Kadai: Hmong ใo Yunnan เป็นเพียง Ethnic ที่เคยรุ่งเรืองสู้รบกะ HanChinese และใกล้ชิดกับภาษาพม่า คนละภาษา ฟังกันไม่รู้เรืองกับคนพูดไตเด้อ #5: เจ้าของช่องเป้น Cantonese ที่ไปอยู่ใน the US หลายชั่วรุ่นแล้ว และภาษานี้สำคํญและมีคนใช้มากใน ต้นประวัติศาสตรจีนถึงก่อนสาธารณรัฐ
No, the lower lines are not electric wire (telecom) if you look up higher that one is electric wire, but any way don’t touch metal pole especially when it’s raining
They are actually not electrical wires, but telecom wires. So they are not dangerous as they seem. Anyway yeah, they are on the mission to put everything down underground 😊
I'm 4'11" American born Thai woman and visited back in October for my cousin's wedding. I walked 15 minutes from my hotel to IconSiam and back just fine but I know people who probably saw the streets and thought, I'm not walking that at night alone. Also, I stopped for every soi cat and dog 😊
I love BKK, one of my favourite cities in the world. First went there in 2011 on a stopover for a few days travelling between Australia & Europe and have been there 9 times since (usually on the way to other places in Europe and Asia). It was even more chaotic in 2011 and some aspects have been tidied up for the better (chaotic clothes and souvenir vendors on the sudewalks in the evenings, improvements for walkability and improved public transport infrastructure). Essentially the Thais have become richer and some aspects of the BKK experience improved for me. They have a goid balance now and hopefully they don't overdo it and sanitise it too much. Just my 2 bahts worth as an Aussie who has been there a few times over the years.
Thailand has improved a lot in the past 40 years. If you go to other parts of the world and compare it to how it was 40 to 50 years ago, the change is night and day.
Awesome vdo !! Great to see you together in BKK. As a chinese-Thai who had lived in CA for 10 years, driving in BKk is not as crazy as the traffic seems. You just have to see left and right mirror for motorcycles. You two should try Mark Wein’s pad kraprao in Ekamai.
Ngl the super hole in the wall spots or hidden in the cuts Bangkok have some awesome pad thai. Some of the best pad thai I had though was in Phuket, at some little market while sitting on a pair of stairs.
I didn’t spend much time in Bangkok but what I observed was that One night in Bangkok makes a hard man humble. There was Not much between despair and ecstasy. One night in Bangkok and the tough guys tumble and you Can't be too careful with your company. I honestly could feel the Devil walking next to me
I welcome tourists and also agree that tourists should at least wear a t-shirt when you are outside. I have seen tourists in bikinis and only a cover-up walking around Chiang Mai. Some dude walk around shirtless and thought other people look at them because they look good. lol and please take a shower more often.
99% of Southeast and East Asia are safe, except maybe some of the slums of Manila and Yangon. Asians, particularly Buddhists and Muslims are just more disciplined and calm people.
I was in Bangkok in 2021 it's super fun but yes very very very chaotic. Chaotic meaning you do not want to drive in Bangkok, if you think LA, Seattle, NYC is crazy you haven't seen horrible traffic. Was picked up by a taxi driver who was forced by his supervisors to take us to our hotel and kept bitching because the duration of where we were currently to our hotel was too close in distance so he wouldn't get enough money. He was complaining when my wife and my SIL are both from Thailand and were speaking to him in their native language. LOL
Thank you so much for liking Thailand 🙏 We hope you will come back soon. We might not be the best but we try to give you our best. If you have any suggestions to improve out country & services, please let us know. We are half empty glass of water people. We try to do our job with our best but always room for improvement. Have a safe trip back home & will see you you again soon. Phobkoon kha🙏😊
Muaythai is too hard and brutal for kids. The training of Muaythai also costs more at any age . So do the gears when compared to the uniform and gears for Taekwondo or Judo Karate, etc.
Yes you can be shirtless….at the beach city, mountains and countryside farmland. The locals here do it all the time especially farmers. Just not good in big metro cities.
You might not have to worry about random strangers trying to mug you, but riding motorbikes around in congested traffic is anything but safe, statistically speaking. Countries like Thailand are more chill compared to the competitive nature of the US and China, which probably influences how locals view their fellow man. People seem to be friendlier in general when they're not constantly preoccupied by the societal pressures of the rat race. MMA fighters from Muay Thai backgrounds are actually quite rare in the UFC, and they seldom make it to the top. There's a lot more Muay Thai fighters competing in ONE, though. But that's kind of to be expected given that it's a Singaporean promotion. I'm sure the queasiness stems from unfamiliarity. Once you become accustomed to riding motorbikes regularly, you'll eventually get used to the speeding. But yeah, the good thing about their service is that they don't charge you by the minute like a taxi, so it makes no difference if you reach your destination slower. Andrew, please don't tell me you made the mistake of matching with a ladyboy without knowing (s)he was packing an 8-inch secret. 🐍 Maybe Thailand needs to import some Western electricians to clean up the utility lines. ⚡ Tourists should be grateful to the locals regardless of the country in question. This is how all invited guests should operate when travelling. Walking around shirtless in public is typically perceived as a sign of disrespect. But if you're at the beach, that's one of the few places where it would appropriate. It's all about context. Thailand is probably best compared to Vietnam. It's a booming country but hasn't quite reached the level of Japan or Singapore. "No TH-cam, just drive." Apparently Thailand has got some fairly lax distracted driving laws, lmao. 🏍
You misunderstood the term Muay Thai background in MMA. You have to distinguish between the term Muay Thai fighter(Thai people) meaning Thai people who train in Muay Thai and the term Muay Thai which means martial arts (people of any nationality can train). Muay Thai fighter(Thai people) do not join UFC because of the attitude of instilling pride in not hurting opponents lying on the ground (Thai boxers hate hugging each other on the ground). But almost all MMA fighters in UFC train Muay Thai for standing combat. Currently, big boxing camps in Thailand do not only train Muay Thai for Muay Thai boxers. They also have MMA courses and Muay Thai courses for MMA fighters. What you see in UFC, MMA fighters (of any nationality) who use low kicks, round-hose kicks, knees, and elbows, are all basic Muay Thai arts.
I agree with you on many points you made. You haven't seen the ugly side of Thailand. There are plenty of no-go neighbourhoods that you can go but might not come back alive throughout the country. Not suggesting Thailand is the ugliest place. I want to be honest as a local.
@ I know, most creepy guys think they're being funny. It's best to stay away from sexual jokes and let some other guy be the creep. Watch and observe how others react to him, especially the women.
#1 is kinda interesting given the recent news of chinese celebrities being taken to Myanmar from Thailand and needing to be rescued. Any thought? should tourists be concerned or do you think it's isolated incident?
@brianszeto3418 - I'm a regular visitor to Thailand, especially Bangkok, and your concern is a NOTHING BURGER! You're more likely to be killed by an active shooter in the USA than be kidnapped by some Chinese mafia in Thailand. If you're looking for trouble in Bangkok, you will find it! Just like any big city in the world, you have to keep your wits about you!
Thailand was supposed to be the 5th tiger, and that kind of imploded. So we've been accepting that Malaysia and soon Vietnam will pass us by. We will be stuck in the middle income trap for some time. Sadly, the only working engine is tourism, at 20% of GDP. A shout out to all the ladyboys! Poor rep better than no rep.
This is a land of tolerance. You can not wear a helmet and no one will complain to you. Even the police, if they are not on their duty to set up a checkpoint, may ignore you or just come to give you a warning. But you have to be responsible for your life and do not cause accidents that cause trouble to other people. Dressing modestly and not showing too much skin is considered polite, such as in temples or shopping malls.

People also do not understand the challenges of putting power lines underground in a place that has monsoon rains which leads to flooding.

#1 is right. Bangkok is controlled chaos. Everything seems hectic and wild, but it seems to work for them. Its a fun place to be.
Practically ever south East Asian.

You have to be in Thailand during Songkran festival. ✌️
Muaythai is too hard and brutal for kids. The training of Muaythai also costs more at any age . So do the gears when compared to the uniform and gears for Taekwondo or Judo Karate, etc.

Living can be easy, if you are earning foreign dollars. Earning in TBT makes things much more difficult. Good luck on people’s journeys!
You've moved to Bangkok?! Whaaat - welcome!
It's been almost a week, still no talking about the Biggest fire in LA history.......
Would love to connect and do an interview with you bro
If you have time to visit other provinces in the north, north east, or south, you’ll definitely get other vibes.
Yes you can be shirtless….at the beach city, mountains and countryside farmland. The locals here do it all the time especially farmers.
Just not good in big metro cities.
Come back for Songkran Water Festival on April.
The grab drivers watching TH-cam is so real 😂
But I don't think Thais will eat pad kra pao while walking.
Maybe Thailand needs to import some Western electricians to clean up the utility lines. ⚡
Tourists should be grateful to the locals regardless of the country in question.
You have to distinguish between the term
Muay Thai fighter(Thai people) meaning Thai people who train in Muay Thai
and the term Muay Thai which means martial arts (people of any nationality can train).
One championship is co-own by Thai people as well, so it’s not fully Singaporean promotion though.
Curious what kind of strain b4 you guys shooting this😂
#9 wait, there are people walking shirtless in other cities? 😂😂
The💁♀️boys economy will be negatively impacted by Andrew leaving the country, ladies and gentlemen let pray for Thailand 😑🙏.
@7:54 you guys distracted the driver 😂
Hot Pot Boys!!! For the Hot Pot Boys!!! 😊
I lived here my whole life. When I went to uni australia, i got really fckin bored
Bangkok is way hot! The people n culture is way cool!
Thank You🙂
Please info on visa and stuff.
That's a pic of people of Bali at 1:42, not Thais 😕
a lot of Korean signs, interesting
I agree with you on many points you made. You haven't seen the ugly side of Thailand. There are plenty of no-go neighbourhoods that you can go but might not come back alive throughout the country. Not suggesting Thailand is the ugliest place. I want to be honest as a local.
2:13 is not Thailand either…
Nice purses fellas
those are not purses, they're fanny packs.
Facts
Just google tank top Thai king in Europe/Germany. I know what the fung bros talking about.
🇹🇭 ❤
can't wait gambling are legalized soon in thailand
After Thailand, you guys still talk like fighting. Too noisy
Which fung brother is having the most fun with ladyboys down there? 🤣🤣🤣
You’re creepy bro
@ I meant it as a joke.
@ I know, most creepy guys think they're being funny. It's best to stay away from sexual jokes and let some other guy be the creep. Watch and observe how others react to him, especially the women.
Wear helmet! And don't text while driving. It's illegal and dangerous.
#1 is kinda interesting given the recent news of chinese celebrities being taken to Myanmar from Thailand and needing to be rescued. Any thought? should tourists be concerned or do you think it's isolated incident?
If you don’t speak mandarin, you have nothing to worry about! It’s sadly the Chinese conning Chinese in these places.
That’s kinda obvious that it’s not happening often, no?
@brianszeto3418 - I'm a regular visitor to Thailand, especially Bangkok, and your concern is a NOTHING BURGER! You're more likely to be killed by an active shooter in the USA than be kidnapped by some Chinese mafia in Thailand. If you're looking for trouble in Bangkok, you will find it! Just like any big city in the world, you have to keep your wits about you!
Just Chinese doing shit to Chinese in someone else country. Thats another reason thai people hate Chinese cos they keep causing problems endlessly.
Are you a mainlander? if not, be thankful.
Great point about Muy Thai being a working class martial art
First in here fool!
👀👂
👄
🙏
Try Pad Thai Thipsamai, it's very good
Thoughts on Air pollution in Bangkok and surrounding cities.
Not safe going to Thailand . I know a friend who told me his friend got scammed and he’s working in those scam call centre in Myanmar
He got kidnapped
Thailand was supposed to be the 5th tiger, and that kind of imploded. So we've been accepting that Malaysia and soon Vietnam will pass us by. We will be stuck in the middle income trap for some time. Sadly, the only working engine is tourism, at 20% of GDP. A shout out to all the ladyboys! Poor rep better than no rep.
Until you get kidnapped 😂
Martial law.
Cannabis
Fc ❤ your guy
Definitely not as safe as Japan or China. Do not left your belonging.
