What do Koreans think about Filipinos joining

  • The controversy began on Sept. 5 when Filipina TikTok star Bella Poarch posted a video of her dancing which exposed a Rising Sun flag tattoo on her left arm. The flag is associated with Japanese Imperialism and remains sensitive to Koreans even to this day.
Even after she apologized saying she did not know the history behind the flag and would remove her tattoo, some Korean TikTok users continued their attack on her.
Some Koreans even resorted to racial slurs referring to Filipinos as “poor and uneducated” which prompted Filipinos to call out Koreans through the hashtag “CancelKorea” and “ApologizeToFilipinos.”
But do those racially discriminatory attacks on Filipinos represent what Koreans really feel about the country? To find out, we went out to ask people how they feel about the incident.

Why do Koreans keep saying that Filipinos are not aware of the atrocities of Japan in WW2? Filipinos are also victims of the imperial Japan. We just choose not to react badly because we don't dwell on the past much. We've been repeatedly colonised for almost 400 years!
We've been raped, backstabbed, enslaved, massacred, betrayed, sold to another colonial master. You name it we experienced it all, and what do we do? We adopt, survived, and move forward. So how do we move forward? We forgive.
Not for them mind you, but because Filipinos deserve peace. We forgive because we are aware that the sins of the father should not be inherited by the son. Thus making us more of a happy people( not a joke, Philippines has the most highest EQ around the world), Filipinos doesn't like holding grudges, it's just a burden.

It is understandable that Koreans have a feeling of hostility to Japan.
However, it is ridiculous to hate the Rising Sun Flag as a symbol of Japanese imperialism and involve unrelated people.
In 2011, nationalists in Korea launched a campaign called "The Rising Sun Flag is a flag of war crimes," and Koreans now take it for granted.
How easy it is for people to be brainwashed.
Unless Koreans notice this childish brainwashing, similar events will occur.
That woman's tattoo has nothing to do with Korea, Japan, or the Rising Sun Flag.
Brainwashed discrimination against Japan wil hurt unrelated people.

@Pedro First of all we are not "blaming" the whole nation of Korea since there is nothing to blame them for. Second, North Korea has nothing to do with this. Third, we are not reacting badly to a tiktok arguement, we are reacting badly to racial comments, which is way more than an arguement. Fourth, even if we were "blaming" South Korea it wouldn't even be about the tattoo, it would be about the racial comments. Fifth, we did not make a big deal out of the tattoo, some South Korean dude did. And lastly, we don't give a single shit if you're older than us, alright?

I have face that challenge for years, staying in a toxic environment has given me so many life lesson, most of them tend to look down esp if you come from the SEA, so when I was in korea i have many friends from the other country like Philippine, Thailand, Malaysia Etc, ive got to say that the most respectful korean usually they have been outside the country or used to live in other country either for work and studying. But to be honest with ya'll, if I have to choose between Korea and Japan, i'd choose the Japanese simply because they are more respectful, I used to work with the Japanese and all of them treat me nicely even though the work hours is hella crazier than the Korean.

I agree! I have been to Japan and I have never felt any form of discrimination. They bow down to show respect whenever you enter an establishment despite me being from South East Asia. Anywhere, respect. I’m amazed. But I visited a Korean restaurant and I kind of felt they are talking behind my back. Even in the Philippines, some Koreans are so loud in public transportation. I have Korean friends who studied in the Ph and they are more grounded and they apologize on behalf of the ignorant ones. I guess it’s a matter of culture ingrained in their homogenous society and a sort of misplaced “superiority complex” so I guess they really need to touch base with the outside world a bit to see there is more of the world than them.

They hate to see Japanese flag as it has a painful history to them for 35 years (1910-1945).
_And I dislike the idea of comparing, but here you go:_
Our *FILIPINO ANCESTORS* had to endure *333 years from Spanish* colonization (1565-1898),
*48 years from the American* colonization (1898-1946),
    *The Bataan Death March* (1942),
lastly *3 years from the Japanese* occupation (1942-1945) _(so we're colonized later than KR,)_ our ancestors became slaves, sex slaves, tortured, burned, brutally killed, name it, and yet, these colonizations *MADE US WHO WE ARE AT PRESENT.*
In the present day Republic of The Philippines, we still are welcoming them in to our country, we adapt, exchange cultures, without bringing out the past _(not forgetting but we Commemorate our fallen heroes and ancestors)_ and Filipinos are even married to these Nationals -- Spanish, American, Japanese, include now the Koreans, and vice versa. I say this because I, too, is MARRIED to one of these Nationals I mentioned, and had travelled to these countries with no bad experiences, as tourist, not for job. _(which I am very grateful & blessed!)_
**In KR they have Japanese Idols, celebrities, personalities. They even go to Japan to travel...and the list goes on.

If you want to talk about history, just study Korean history properly and respect it first.
      For 35 years (1910-1935)?
      ????
You think it's only that period? The invasion begins in 1875. It was only in 1910 that they began to occupy.
Further away, there was a massive invasion (1592~1598) Countless people died and they cut off Koreans' ears and noses and took them to Japan.
Japan's Pirates continued to invade the Korean Peninsula before and after that. Korea has never invaded or damaged Japan except for punishing pirates.
Apologize? They don't admit to the atrocities they committed and distort them. they keep causing territorial disputes.
How do you believe Japan will not invade Korea again in the future?
You guys always say forgiveness.Did you really forgive them? Not oblivion?
Is this a matter of forgiveness?
If we say forgiveness, does Japan not make territorial provocations? they admit history issues??
Are you Filipino? Spain 333years? What has Spain done to you on Philippine?
Killing the Filipinos and They burned a number of private house, killing innocent civilians, sexual slavery?? cut off ears and noses?
Let me know. Now Spain is too far away from the Philippines. There is no reason for military conflict. They don't even make provocations. For you, it may be a matter of the past because Japan no longer provokes the Philippines. However, South Korea is still being provoked. It's a matter of the present.
Korean government continues to demand that the Japanese government to correct its imperialist behavior. This is a legitimate right.
Korea should prohibit those you mentored?? Will the Philippines ban everything from China because of China's provocation in the South China Sea?
We want the problem to be solved, not cut off.
Each person's trauma can be different.
Don't judge that it's not your problem and don't say anything rude.

Look guys I'm Korean (from America) and to be honest I think it's actually a good idea to cancel Korea on the international scene and actualy would be for Korea's own good.....a lot of Korean's just don't understand the outside world Korean society as a whole is just not equipped or have the sensibilities to deal with different peoples it's homogenous so they never had to deal with it. If Korean's aren't careful it can cause irreparable damage to its national brand which would be really bad cause what it comes down to is Korea needs to sell its wares such as car's electronics makeup etc to survive. Japan back in the 1970's 80s 90's had their little world stage and people thought they were insensitive, uncouth and that whole master race thing would come out your supposed to stay humble. The Japanese eventually figured it out and was like uhm for some reason a lot of people out there take offense to us so we will let our video games and anime do our talking......anyways all I'm trying to say if I was Korea Inc. I would try to be as low key as possible. It’s known that Korea is on top of its game which makes it a huge target....people naturally want to take down whoever’s on top so you want to stay humble and stay in the shadows at times. Alot of people don’t like East Asians either so I would try to make the ourselves racially ambiguous (a lot of people who are acquainted with Bts in the us still think they are white) the Altaic branch we just go to Korea once in a while to vacation.....just trying to have fun with this hope you all dont take this too seriously i love filipino people culture food peace

South Korea: We suffered a lot under japanese invasion. >:(
Philippines: We also experience that but we are still promoting japanese culture as a sign of friendship. :)
    Philippines was colonized by:
    Spanish - 300+ years
    America - 48 years
    Japan - 3 years
And Philippine people still gives a fair treatment for everyone, they continue being hospitable, and nice to Foreigners. We should be matured, spreading peace is more better than spreading hate and racism.
    FACT no1:
The former president of south korea,Park Chung-hee. He was high rank military officer of imperial Japanese army.
    FACT no2:
Hong Sa-ik (Korean) was class A war criminal and one of highest ranking general in the imperial Japanese army stationed in Philippines. He was the one causing massive suffering for Filipinos during WW2.
    FACT no3:
There were 240,000 Korean soldiers (including 9 korean generals. Yes NINE, 9 Korean generals) in the imperial japanese army.
    FACT no4:
The only korean who actually fought for korean independence was kim il sung. Yes the founding father of North korea. Yeah! That North korea.
History is funny like that. Things aren't black and white. History is full of ugly shades of grey! Most Japanese soldiers were good and decent men who were inhumanely brainwashed and forced to fight for an evil regime and just followed orders! A lot of Korean conscripts in the Imperial Army during the Second Sino Japanese War and World War 2 were sadistic and brutal murderers yet they don't represent most Korean conscripts in WW2! As a Korean myself I want to tell my fellow Asians in the Philippines that I love you all just as I love my fellow Asians in China, Japan, Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, and even North Korea. I hope we can all stop with this divide between out people's and that Korea can one day be reunited.

If you pick the country you hate the most as a Korean, the Philippines say that they are the kindest to foreigners, but they are one of the countries that commit crimes against Koreans the most. They threaten, cheat, kidnap, robbery, and even murder. The Filipinos say that Asian countries ignore them. You know what? Korea was the poorest country in the world, and the president of the Philippines ignored Korea, and the people ignored Korea a lot. Now that the situation has changed, Filipinos with inferiority complex say that Korea is racist. They say that they come into Korea as a large number of illegal immigrants and commit all kinds of crimes, and they hate Korea, but they don't go to Europe or the West. Will they be able to go to Europe or the West? Of course, there is a lot of racism in Asia. I've seen news of assault and theft of money. Is there any crime in your country caused by the Philippines? Of course, there is racism in Korea because it is a single ethnic group, but it is funny to see statistics that the Philippines is much higher than Korea. I still wonder if Filipinos follow and beg for money. Of course, they curse and throw things when they don't give you money. Be careful!!

This is pathetic.. Some S Koreans are so dramatic, basically, they are saying that the World needs to adjust for them. If they have a problem with that symbol keep it to themselves we don't care. Bella is Filipino so why would she care and S Korea is not the only country that japan invaded there's a lot Philippines included.

@@aidan8815 Funny cause I *did* do research. It wasn't covered with a heart, nowhere did she state that she covered it with a heart specifically, it was already like that originally because she saw the symbol around hawaii. She had it immediately removed when she found out.
