According to history, Filipinos started forgiving the Japanese when Philippine President Elpidio Quirino started freeing Japanese POW to return to Japan. Don't get me wrong, he was bashed by many Filipinos during that time because of the scars of war, but he simply brushed it off saying "I won't let this hatred be carried in the next generation". These words, coming from a man who's family was murdered by Japanese during the Battle of Manila. I think it was this time when relationship between Japan and Philippines started healing. As of today, the relationship between the two countries are going strong. In 2016, Japan built a stone memorial for President Quirino in honor of his deeds. It stands at Hibiya park in Tokyo, the same park where the stone memorial of Jose Rizal was erected.
It made me cry about this information from our late president quirino.. We have hatred before to Japanese but we move forward and forgive then but we don't forget..
"I wont let this hatred be carried by the next generation" - President Elpidio Quirino. He's perhaps the most underrated president of the Philippines. Not only he freed the Japanese POW, but it is unimaginable that he was also the same president who sent the Philippine Expeditionary Force To Korea to help out the allies free South Korea from the Communist control!
I mean his wife and child died on a Japanese bombing attack, and that he had to dig up their corpses from the rubble and bury them properly himself. I think he is also the president who helped the White Russians.
I am Filipino but my mom is Japanese born in the Philppines (naturalized) . I think I'm already a product of friendship, forgiveness and love.. so I thank my countrymen for our value of humanity. 🇵🇭🇯🇵
This is why I hate weeb or simple anime fan, first toxic and cringe, i think this Filipino kid didn't know what Japan doing in Filipino babies and women, japanese troops threw babies in the air and catch them with bayonets, almost 50,000 women died because of Japanese, sorry for my bad English I just want to say my opinion about weebs.
@@antimonke7230 so being mad at them would bring those babies back to life? We can't do anything man, it's done. The future is way more important than dwelling in the past.
one trait that can be seen as a double edged sword of pinoys is that we live in the present. we do not dwell in the negativity of our history. this is both good and bad because there's a tendency that we miss what our past can teach us, hence mistakes of the past can repeat or have been repeating. It is good because, we tend to be forgiving and more positive. There's a reason why inspite of our poverty are still one of the happiest nation in the world.
True, it's okay to look at the past for reference and pick lessons from it but to dwell on the past its a big no for me it will only brings negativity in LIFE then hate to grudge until we make decisions that might harm others and ourselves too.
So true the life before and most especially the people before is different from now. Same as the the Japanese soldiers before as well as the spaniards are different from those who are living now
The reason why Filipinos dont hate Japanese is because the Filipino parents that survived never taught their children to bring the hate and instead was taught to move forward and do what's best

@Weeaboo Disgusting fckin You said South Korea apologizes whenever a new president takes office. But I only found that Moon president only said “South Korea has a debt of heart to Vietnam.” When he apologized. What is debt? They didn’t apologize directly and pay compensation for the Vietnam comfort women and thousands of people who are half Korean and half Vietnam so called Lai Dai Han even once. I searched but every article on the internet said (including the Guardian, BBC) South Korea has never formally acknowledged and apologized directly for civilian massacres by its troops and Vietnam comfort women officially.

There's this story in our family that my great-great-grandmother helped out a Japanese general when he was caught in a pinch at war. That general was not like the other soldiers back then, and was actually trying to help the civilians not to get caught up, inspite of orders. To thank her, he gave her his katana to help her defend herself if anything were to happen. And to this day, that katana became one of our family heirlooms.
I had multiple Philippine History professors who said that whenever they had japanese exchange students, those students always end up crying when they learn about the Philippines' history under the Japanese occupation because like what the lady in the video said, it isn't really discussed in Japan because they want to focus on their glory. They are always so surprised to the point of tears.
this is true... i had a Jpn friend before, my language partner, and out of the blue, he went apologising for the past war the Philippines had with Japan. i told him past is past and his ancestor war crimes are not his, so as a Pinoy i moved on from there and he should too.. he was so happy i acknowledged his apologies.
Hanggang ngayon ganyan pa din ang isyu sa Japan, the last I know it po.
Unfortunately, from what I've learned in several videos as well about Japan, the younger generation don't really talk about WWII in their history class. In a way, it was "brushed off." Their knowledge of war would be more about shogunates, samurais, and Shinsengumi-but again, not a lot. The older generation would have a bit more knowledge-some from personal experience, and some that were able to learn it in school when it was taught for a brief period. Not sure how that went down, but I'd hazard a guess in thinking that it puts Japan in a heroic point of view, and then playing victim, rather than them being in the wrong.
The fact that most Japanese aren't aware of their history is one of the reasons why other countries are angry, but yeah, everytime I meet a Japanese and end up talking about what our country been through under their occupation they apologize sincerely.

One fact about Filipino? We forgive and we are always ready to start new. We we're colonized by Spain for 333 years, 48years in American and 3years from Japan we were fighting for our freedom for hundreds of years but as you can see we are already healing and moving on as we embrace our enemies, our ancestors teach us not to hold grudges but they thought us to embrace our enemies. Filipino culture is FORGIVING we forgive easily and we always likes foreigners, but foreigners who look down on us? you have to face the wrath of all the Filipino who you disrespectfully called with unacceptable words.
i agree this is a none sense issue but anyway as a basic rule in a community love your neighbors as you love your self because most of the time there the one you can easy ask for help in times of trouble. fuck yeah from philippines
Not a Filipino but Indonesian, my grandfather lived through Japanese occupation and fought in the Dutch-Indonesian war, and he never held a grudge against the Japanese or Dutch. I think I speak for most South East Asians when I say that we really don't care. To us, it's in the past, it should be remembered but the men who did it are all dead or old so why bother holding a grudge. My grandfather would even get mad at us when we would blame the Dutch or Japanese, he would always say that you didn't live through what him and his generation did so you don't have a right to be mad. I think many people in other countries nowadays should think this way, it is useless to hold grudges for what your grandparents or greatgrandparents did so many years ago.
I think cant do nothing about them. You see until now korea is still divided in two parts they cant forgive and move on so m not surprised about how their mind works

The Question should be, "should the Filipinos hate Japanese though?" Is Japan hurting the Philippines in any shape or form right now? -No, Then why would we angry at them? But they did? long long ago though. - Yeah, it was. If any Filipino was done wrong to them by the Japanese that are still alive. They have the right to be angry. But like I said it was a long time ago. We are not the Filipinos who were hurt by them nor the Japanese right now are the perpetrators back then. Aren't you at least angry for your ancestors or want justice for the Filipinos? Did they Apologies to the Philippines? Yes. Did the Philippines get Justice? Yes, Japan paid in Fine, Apologies, and Blood "Nuked by our Allies." There is a saying that your friends can be your Enemy. But this saying is both ways. Your Enemy yesterday could be your Best Friend Tomorrow. The Past is Past, Heck I don't even know someone who hates Spain right now. And they colonize us for 333years. Filipinos only see what is present and look up to the Future. -Japan is one of our Allies now. -our trading partner (Economically, Technological(Cars and electronics) and Cultural (Anime, Japanese Food)) -Most Well-known/built infrastructure in the Philippines was made by Japanese ingenuity. (Trains, Highway, Bridges, and soon Subway). -They are known for the one of the best Earthquake resistant infrastructures. -Lots of Japanese enroll in the Philippines and lots of Philippine works in Japan. -Japan is the closest and the highest giving of aid when disaster struck in the Philippines like Earthquake and Eruptions -Japan is one of the strategic Allies of the Philippines when it comes to the military and territory. Helps us Defend against scums. -Filipino is the Thrid largest population in Japan according to the wiki We see no reason to hate or to continue hating on present Japan.
@Chenle gave the egg to Felix i do think that the colonizers did damage and destroy the culture and history of pre colonial Philippines. Heck our country's name is still a reflection of their rule. I get jealous when i see the rich culture and history of other countries especially SEA countries with their temples and ancient cities. If our culture, history, cities and indigenous people were not destroyed and enslaved how rich our history could it be? How different our national identity could be? How far of a progress could we gave reached? We will never know since "winners" or the stronger countries write history and pass on their legacy (even the corrupt structure of their govt). Those who are rich and privileged will always step on the people who are less fortunate. As a 3rd world country, personally i think, we can only accept the circumstances and adapt. Forgive and receive help from the people who hurt you. Accept and welcome them even if they look down on you. Because that's the only way someone "weaker" will survive. This shouldn't be a problem in a perfect world but obviously the world isn't. Filipinos may not be winners but we are survivors.

Probably the scar that they left in Filipinos will never be removed but slowly and surely, time really heals everything. All these years, Japan showed us that they are true to their intention of asking forgiveness. Japan is not stealing Philippine Islands. Japan is not sending drug lords in the Philippines. Japan is sharing their technology with the Philippines. They are funding Philippine government projects with “reasonable” agreement, Japanese people are honest and polite.
We Filipinos can easily forgive. It's in our nature, we're raised to be kind and humble to others. But Filipinos also never forget, we hold on to our scars and we know that those who forget are doomed to repeat history itself
very true up til now japan might not be asking for forgiveness but they are actually doing something that makes them worth forgiving ♥️ that's why i love japan, they dont say it but they do it
Past : Japan is the least time colonizer but the worst in Indonesia Now : Japan is our buddy I think most of the country in southeast asia had a forgiving culture
it's not that we forget the past, We're hurt indeed, a lot of hero and civil died for our independent but why make problem with it now? and most of us are have good terms with many countries even though they had colonized us. We have a dark past with communism and the use of communism symbols (the hammer and sickle) is strictly prohibited and offensive in our country. but we don't care if other countries use it, instead we have good relations with communist countries like Russia.

During the first half of the 20th century, Korea was under Japan. A lot of Korean men were conscripted in the Japanese Imperial Army. Philippines was invaded and occupied by Japan. You have heard of Asian comfort women. I am willing to bet the "Japanese" soldiers who raped countless Filipinas and fathered a lot of children in the Philippines were actually Korean men serving in the Japanese Imperial Army. Akage Yone My reply to a youtube comment: Pero tandaan mo lang na kaya mas di maka move on ang mga koreans sa japan dahil una, 35 years silang under japanese occupation, while philippines was just for 3 years. Mas ramdam nila ang cruelty ng japan at sinubukan ng mga hapon na burahin ang kanilang cultura while that didn’t occur in the Philippines (i am aware of bataan desth march). Purika nope. With the current situation over korea and philippines, I’ve observed that us Filipinos don’t admit that some of us are being racist. You know? “Bumbay mabaho” “chinese tsekwa ching chong palaihe sa daan” “koreano bakla plastic” tapos kapag tayo ang na call out dinedeny natin. Wag tayo nag lalagay ng double standard. And even before the current issue, I’ve been hearing racist slurs towards koreans form Filipinos. I’m not dragging us down, but we shouldn’t be some kind of “oh we are just poor innocent country with lots of perfectly nice people that are not racist” our mentality needs to change. Copy pasted from my yt reply And to add up, korea was occupied by japan for 35 years as compared to 3 years of philippines, and they were brutalized even more. Japan never imposed japanese on us, but they imposed japanese to koreans. And to compare the 300 years of spain to wwii japan is off. Spain isn’t that much racist and brutal, not even close to what the japanazi did. Spain didn’t care what race you are as long as you are educated catholic (which is still bad) but japanese tought they were superior among all asians. So i kinda get why koreans get triggered easily, but still, in our defense, they made a stupid mistake and messed with us by throwing slurs and not realizing it could offend people.
and instead before they could getup from there war damages they choose to help Korean war and Philippines is the first asian country that has the balls on protecting korea tnx philippines
@@matthewtenorioduenas202 Agree to some extent, it doesn't matter how many years it was even if we have shorter years in terms of colonization, brutality is brutality nonetheless. There's no more or less when it comes to brutality. And what do you mean isn't that much about Spain? That's the most disgraceful statement i have ever heard from a fellow countrymen, you know what colonization is, right? Did you know that Spain left the most impact in the Philippines, they pushed their ideologies to us, that is the same as brainwashing an entire country under one rule. If you think that Spain's only surface level even so if compared to Japan's, then everything that our heroes fought blood and tears for would be all for naught. Just because they experienced it longer doesn't mean it's justified that they have "greater" grudge than us. Never use that disgusting statement elsewhere, that's a disgrace for the lives that were taken and sacrificed for just the sake of power.

Davao is the "Little Tokyo" during the Japanese occupation. My great grandmother served the Japanese as their househelp. I am not sure if she was a victim of being a "comfort women" which she bare a child from a Japanese Military Officer. After the war, She was left by a piece of land to till and a child to raise. The child never registered or has a birth certificate. My great grandmother was single parent then. As the child grow up becoming adult, she finally have the courage to go to Japan to know and find her father. When she found her father at the shrine cemetery outside Tokyo. She had known that her father has another family. She had met them. She was happy and forgiving. Then on, she moved to Zurich to start a family. Until now, she is proud being a Filipina-Japanese. She is my grandmother, mother of my mother. 😊
cing margen Alzarian you don’t know anything about your own land. America was planning to use it as a disposable battleground and supply route into invasion of Japan. If japan didn’t intervene, forced conscription and plundering would be a regular sight. Not to say, in their recapture , they used Filipino guerillas and lowered their own casualties. Americans involved normal citizens into the war and would bomb food sources. USA is also known for holding its colony as long as possible . Filipino have japan to thank for their independence.

There are many Chinese who manipulate public opinion on Korean TH-cam and other sites. And for one thing, the word "Korean Empire" is not used in Korea. Besides, Korea does not use Chinese characters. It's really ridiculous. Japan and China dominate the Philippines. I'll just give up... Please continue to like Japan. It's hard to get around anymore. How are you.
I had a Japanese friend who visited once and while visiting some historical sites in Manila, he bowed down to me saying sorry many times for all the things his country did. Many of my countrymen have been brainwashed by their ancestors but forgiveness is an inherent trait Filipinos have. It's not something limited to religion. The world is tough and revenge doesn't help anyone. An eye for an eye, the whole world goes blind.

When I look at his page, there is a highly unnatural pattern of a Japanese neto-uyo(right wing) who is pretending to be a Korean on purpose. lol.. This is typical of any situation like this. Many Koreans know at this point :| Not all of self-proclaimed Koreans on here are Koreans.
WE FILIPINOS KNOW THAT TOO MUCH HATRED WILL AFFECT US ON OUR DEALINGS WITH EVERYDAY LIFE, AND IT WON'T HELP US IN MANY WAYS. IF A PERSON IS VERY UNFORGIVING, IT ONLY SHOWS HOW SHALLOW IS HIS SPIRITUALITY.
They were beaten to death at pag nagkasakit ay pinapatay na sila.
In Korea, we learn what Japan did to Korea in school, which naturally brings our hatred toward Japan(obviously not everyone and some Koreans love Japan). As a Korean, I am surprised how open-minded Philippines are toward Japan, although knowing they were colonized in the past. And seeing these younger generations forgiving it(not sure about the old generations of Philippines) makes me really wanting to reflect on the Philippines open-minded attitude. Thank you for this video. It really did taught me a lot of things to be more open-minded and look the world in a different perspective. I love you Philippines
As a Filipino, yes we were colonized by Japan but our elders (those who are still alive) mainly remembers the Spanish time when talking about colonization here. We were only colonized for 3years by Japan and 333 years by Spain. By the time we were colonized by Japan, we got help from US with General Douglas MacArthur (honored by the Philippines) thus having Japan surrendered to us with the Guerilla campaign like a resistance group. You say open minded young generations? Yeah a little bit but mainly we are open minded because our ancestors taught us to be kind and forgiving. It is not only us the young generation, but also our forefathers. Just want to share this to you, there was a man named Elpidio Quirino in the Philippines and during Japan and US war here, his wife and 3 of his children were ones of those hundred thousands who were killed. He was pretty mad but then 8 years later he became a president in the Republic of the Philippines. And you know what he did? He pardoned all the Japanese war criminals and sent them home to Japan despite his own family killed during the war. Then he said, “I have granted pardons so that hatred against the Japanese will not remain among my descendants and the Filipino people.” And that's when I think Filipinos started to forgive others, not just our minds that were opened but our hearts also. That is why we could be able to love foreigners equally despite those colonizations. Our attitudes helped us get through the darkness we experienced. Be polite, kind, loving, and forgiving. His words came true. The hatred against Japanese or any other nations were not normalized. Yesterday, today, and tomorrow, Philippines will always be that hospitable and forgiving country you'll ever see. And because of that, Japan honoured him by building a memorial of Elpidio Quirino in Tokyo. He was hurt, he had seen Japan as an enemy, but as a Filipino and an individual, he showed that true winning is forgiving and he does not want the Filipinos to live a life resenting others. Maybe I was able to explain our side? Was that clear? Hahahahaha
For me, a lot of old people I know only see Japan as tourist/economic powerhouse(some even know some comfort women personally), though they don't like the past, they don't really mind it that much. I also always remember what my Mom said to me: "Pagbigyan mo lahat ng nakasakit sayo bago matapos ang araw" or something like that (TL: Forgive those who hurt you before the sun sets.) It's hard to do but it makes me happier and lets me carry less burden.

The new Japanese generations was also a victim of their ancestors because the blame was on them but how can you get a justice you are asking if you are both a victim.
Yes these things are being thought from elementary to high school... but why these things becomes irrelevant? It’s because currently, Japanese are treating Filipinos nicely, so why would we hate them... just because of history... what’s important is the present... and it’s not like the history was forgotten...
Yes, we never had an enemy. We never started a fight against other countries. When in fact if you make Pinoys as your friend, they will treat you as part of their family. One of the characteristics of pinoy is we don't resent and hold grudges. Yes, pinoys are hospitable, caring and loving people. But one thing they should not forget that Pinoys are also patriotic. We unite when someone insult our race, people and country. It's like "if u insult one of us, you already insulted all if us" or "insult one of us and the whole squad will become your enemy. My point here is Pinoys are always a good friend but also the worst enemy. Let's leave behind the past and move on embrace the future. Let's put a stop to all of these arguments because it's a waste of time and energy. Spread love and not hate.

Same. According to my grandma, the Japanese soldiers occupying Davao were polite. I remember her telling us a story that she was even escorted by a Japanese Captain/General back to her hometown in Davao Oriental.
My great grandfather who was part of a filipino guerilla force against the japanese said that some of the japanese soldiers that they encountered are actually quite nice, some can even spoke a little english and tried to learn the language. I heard and read similar story about some Japanese here in my region, eastern Visayas. A Japanese soldier (I think he had a high rank) helped a town/city (I'm not sure where) in agriculture and economy. If I still remembered it right, the people on that place made a memorial of that soldier.

Koreans have a different attitude towards Japanese because Japan treats Koreans specifically as a go-to hate target today. Korea is the go-to external enemy in their current politics. Anti-K0rean racism is a lucrative business, as they make best sellers as books. There're sections dedicated for anti-K0rean books in normal Japanese bookstores. They make street parades with slogans such as "R11ape K0rean w0men", "K0reans are c0ckroaches", "K0reans are garbage", while using a military flag (Rising Sun Flag) as a symbol of hate, and a symbol of nostalgia towards the Imperialist era. None of the acts above are reciprocated by K0reans. There is no such thing is, anti-Japanese hate parades in Korea. Nor bookstore sections dedicated to anti-Japanese books. When a Japanese politician expresses a favourable or apologetic attitude towards K0reans, his/her popularity drops immediately and gets hate from Japanese citizens. It is a common testimony among Koreans who lived in Japan that they got bullied in a clearly racist fashion. Nostalgia towards the Imperialist era is common among normal Japanese, it is not exclusive among so-called right wingers. And the hate does not only stop as hate, but actual actions to undermine whatever Koreans do. Such as actively appropriating Korean culture and claiming it as having originated from them, or spreading misinformation in international onlines spaces. Spreading misinformation with a pejorative attitude in Japanese media, left, right and center 24/7. Dragging in Koreans in a subject that has nothing to do with Koreans just to shit on Koreans. Do they do the same thing to Filipinos? No. So it is only natural that Filipinos and Koreans don't have the same attitude towards Japanese.
I do not hate the Japanese people. What I despise was the action of their forefathers. We should all learn that in war, we might all lose. Filipinos are forgiving bur forgetting is another question.
Awwwwww, fellow Ghost Hunt-er. That line from Mai had stuck with me ever since, hence why I’m so confused why Koreans still hate Japan so much. And even before, as I learned from Philippine history the terrors that my own forefathers (the Japanese side) did to my other forefathers (the Filipino side), I didn’t really hate on the current Japanese people. I only hated the Japanese people that did evil stuff. No sense trying to hate on people that didn’t even do anything wrong. XD

This is a very interesting conversation and I find it to be from my own experience. I'm a Filipino American who emigrated to the US as a teen and ended up marrying a Japanese American and I was asked once in college by an Asian grad student how my family felt about that. I was taken aback. It never occurred to me that there would even be an issue just because my boyfriend (now husband) is of Japanese descent. This is even knowing and hearing stories from my grandparents regarding their experiences during the Japanese invasion. They talked about their experience as fact with no commentaries on hatred towards the Japanese people. My grandpa was a POW during the war but he also befriended one of the guards. My grandma talked about how she and her sisters painted charcoal on their faces to avoid getting raped. I'm sure they were scared but she never said anything bad about the Japanese people. Mind you, my grandpa was very pro US and saw them as a saviors. He used to quote General McArthur all the time. In spite these stories, I got the impression as a child that it was war and it's what the Japanese gov't did and not the people who were in Japan who never took part on any brutalities that happened. So meeting my husband who was a 4th generation Japanese American who's families experienced their own injustice here in the US (my in-laws were in concentration camps during WWWII as children) I never connected him to Japan who invaded the Philippines. The sins of Japan was now his to bear.

Let say that Filipino is flexible in forgiving... And that thing Koreans should learn from US. A man who Hold Grudge from the Past can not move on in the Future. No offense #Peace
Koreans are willing to forgive, forget and move on. Their only requirement is for the Japanese government to admit all the atrocities it did to Koreans and ask forgiveness. But the Japanese government never gave the "sorry" that the Koreans deserve. They even try to evade from their atrocities by portraying their crimes as acts of heroism in their history books. They never admitted their war crimes. How would you forgive and forget if someone raped you and massacred your family, and that person denied all of it. He is living peacefully and happily while you are living in grief and still hoping for justice throughout your life.

Therefore, it is generally believed that the Tai Chi picture in the flag of the Republic of Korea was introduced from China since the Goryeo era.
The most touching conversation I had about the WW2 with a Japanese was when my Japanese principal (I worked in a Japanese public school ) said sorry to me for the harsh treatment of the Filipinos by the Japanese
It's good to know that this channel is being a platform to promote knowledge regarding cultural views and opinions of two different nationalities. I believe that each and every nationalities are unique on their own that's why it's always important to respect one another as a unique individual. We may have our own beliefs and practices, but after all we're all human beings in the very first place.
In Bohol, specifically in the mountainous area where my late grandpa owns a lot of land plots, I was told by my late grandma that during the Japanese time, women in that area dived into mud-filled holes and made sure that they wont be recognized as living things, waiting for the Japanese soldiers to pass by. But she just smiled and comfortably tell me tales as if those didnt happen ❤ edit: she told me stories from what she was told
When my lola (grandmother) was 17 years old, she used to live in the biggest house in Naga City, Bicol because she came from a very wealthy family. Japanese generals asked to use their house as headquarters during that time and were surprisingly civil and respectful towards them. She had nothing bad to say other than the soldiers being the ones who were unruly.
Kind of a similar story with mine. My lolo (grandfather) was also in his teens when Japan invaded. They had a nice house in Cabanatuan, Nueva Ecija. When they learned that the Japanese forces were approaching, they fled to the mountains. I don't know what it was, but my grandfather came back to their house to retrieve something they forgot to bring with. He found out that their house was used as a command post when he arrived there. Their family dog was still there and recognized him. There were looters at the time so they would've shot my grandfather if not for their dog. The soldiers were friendly so they let him take what he wanted and left him be. This was around the beginning of the war. Around the end of the war, no offense but they were assholes. They ransacked and trashed their house. I guess they were just desperate. My grandfather died in 2015. He never forgave the Japanese, and I can understand that. It's frustrating to see how little informed the average Japanese citizen is about the war atrocities their country has committed, but everything is in the past so maybe it's better to leave it as it is. I have nothing but love for Japan, but I want them to be a little more educated about their history.
@@greyzlean No, that was way back 1940s. Haha my grandmother started living in Baguio when she had my mom, and they later moved to Manila where most of their grandchildren including me grew up. The house was sold because my great grandmother was a gambler back in the day and you know the rest.
Idiot stop comparing a family to a country , japan is a country japanese people still lives and hold to the japanese system with attrocities only weak goats forgives and forgets !
There was a rumour going around it was not actually the Japanese that are ruthless but the Koreans that were drafted. I remember a story my grandma said that the Japanese in Manila were really respectful.
We should learn more about history between Philippines and Japan in school. We don’t know much about Philippines despite that we’re geographically closer😞 Hope for good relationship between us!🇯🇵 🇵🇭

Better if we could give a copy/ excerpt that our history (JP's war atrocities against PH) is well written in our curriculum (with us showing them that our history is also in our minds & hearts without ceasing our values and morals).
I'm half Filipino and half Japanese. I was raised in Japan and went to American schools, so I'm sorry to say I can't speak Filipino. But I'm never had problems talking to Filipinos because everyone seem to be able to speak English. I like of think of myself, a product of an American serviceman and a Okinawan woman, as living proof that former enemies can let go of the past and come together. I believe every country has its share of racists and that unfortunately is really difficult to fix. But I am of the opinion that Korea unfairly makes judgments on the colonial past using present day moral standards. Further more, the Korean government uses victimhood of the past as political leverage towards Japan. The government s;eem to educate its children with anti-Japanese sentiments which will undoubtedly instill ill will towards Japan and make improving relations between the two countries difficult. Pres. Moon said publicly that Japan is not Korea's ally and yet the Koreans go bonkers when Japan took Korea of the whitelist for ignoring Japan's inquiries about the destination of some sensitive materials that were unaccounted for. Korea had been the only Asian country on the list but now having to go through import/export procedures like the rest of Asia so offended Koreans that they went on a "Boycott Japan" campaign, hurting mostly Korean importers and Korean airlines. Pres. Moon also refused to touch the birthday cake presented by PM Abe. I suspect that any show of friendliness towards Japan would have upset many Koreans at home. I could go on and on and list Japan's attempts at presenting peace offerings but it would be too long here, but in a nutshell the Koreans keep moving the goalpost and have no real interest in resolving issues. They will take compensations and sign agreements only to have the treaty overturned as soon as the next administration comes to power. "That agreement is no longer valid," they would say, "But we'll keep the money thank you." Japan is not innocent of its colonial past just as many western countries. But Korea seem to want to present its thirty some years of occupation as the most painful. Victimhood has proven to be politically and economically profitable they will not let go of it easily. So when a Filipina gets a tattoo resembling the rising sun flag (still the official Japanese navel flag), They will criticize her on social media for lacking understanding for Korean sensibilities, not even realizing that the Filipinos have suffered so much more from colonization by various countries. Filipinos don't get upset by the sight of the Spanish, Americans or Japanese flags. It is only the Koreans. It is interesting that Korean sensibility towards this flag didn't come into existence until 21century. It seems the further away in time from the colonial period, Koreans find new ways to suffer the pains of the past. The Korean Government endorsed prostitutes for Americans soldiers during the Korean war. They were called "ianfu" or "comfort women". If at the time the Koreans had the same image of "comfort women" that they present now, 10, 12, 14 year olds taken forcibly from their home, wouldn't they have felt ashamed of using the same term during the Korean war? I'm not saying that there were no women who suffered. But Korean sensibility towards the term "comfort women" also seems to also have been manufactured in the 21 century and the way they present it to the world filtered through a particular narrative. In Korea, questioning that narrative can get you jailed or fined as one Korean historian found out. She wrote a book on comfort women based on her research including interviews with some of the women.. She was taken to court and fined. It was not that anything she wrote was wrong. The claim was that what she wrote offended the comfort women. It looks like the author found some discrepancies in the statement made by some of the former comfort women. Recent scandals in Korea have surfaced that shows groups claiming to support comfort women were actually keeping the most of the money donated for themselves and only using the former comfort women to enrich themselves monetarily and politically. On a side note, I was impressed by Pres. Duterte when he came to Japan. This man, audacious enough to basically give a American president the finger, visibly made efforts to be in best behavior in front of the Emperor of Japan. My Filipino half was proud and my Japanese half grateful.
I felt to me like koreans had this "inherited hatred" which is kinda sad cause if their next generation inherited it, the endless hatred continue, im a Filipino btw 😁
i just imagine the future generations of this two country, that they can never have the peace they deserve, i know that we can pass on the history and informed the youngs, but i just hope not the "hatred" 😢
We are not scared to Japan, remembered that eventhough they are superior to us in WWII, we still fight them. Its just we choose to forgive them as President Quirino did. He Forgive Japan and pardon 400+ Japanese POW because He doesn't want His CHILDREN and HIS PEOPLE to INHERENT The CYCLE OF HATRED....
That's right, no one will benefits that hatred thing in our hearts we only live once and life is short wasting it on hatred might make our lives less meaningful.
Im Korean who studied in the Philippines. What ever the history the truth is ; 1. Filipinos are more open minded. Friendly. Has more International Influence 2. Korea is one of the top suicidal country 3. To live in Korea is stress because of some society norms and there are many Toxic people. 4. Yes. Philippines. May be 3rd world country in terms of Economic status Rank. But Phil. Is Authentically more Rich country than Korea. Phil. Has many Natural Resources. Open minded people and a very perfect Geographical Location. 5. Korean blaming Japanese. But Korean soldier did many horrible things to Vietnamese duing Vietnam War.... 😰 6. Some extreme Nationalist conservative mind Korean never got out of there country. Theyre narrow minded but they feel they know alot & want ro be Important figure in the society. "Feeling magaling" 7. Korea got rich only after Korean war 1953 with the help of U.S. we were never a rich country. So better Korean should be Humble. Be open minded and friendly . 8. Koreans do not move to SE asia country because of High cost of living but because they dont want to live in High stressful society with toxic people. 9. Many Korean hate Japan. But No. 1 tourist in Japan are from S. Korea 😂 How Funny right? 10. Simply. Its more Fun and Happy in the Philippines. 🙀🙏❤🇵🇭😊
On number 5: There are actually tales that the Koreans were more vicious to Filipinos during the Japanese occupation.I don't know if it's true or not but I heard it from my mom who heard from her parents, grandparents, older gen who survived WW2 that the Korean soldiers were the ones who bayoneted babies. What surprised me is, I've seen comments here that have similar stories but we are from various places in the country.
@@sanshirada1119 that is partly true. Whether those korean soldiers were forced or not, it will never change the fact that they caused a harm to our fellow Filipinos. My mom also told me before how they hide at their old house when they were young and to see their aunt stabbed by those soldiers. Laughing and making kidnapped Filipino women do disgusting things. But yeah, we forgive but we do not forget. Living in the past is so tiring right? No one will grow and it will continue to the next generations if we put hatred in our heart.
@@yona6718 Yes. Hearing or reading stories from those who lived during war time made me realize that it could really make humans act like animals or worse. I asked my Lolo about it and he just replied, "Ah it was war. The time was different." He would not really expound it well. Yes, we couldn't forget...we should not forget. But we forgive them for what their ancestors did to ours. We have to learn lessons from it.
@@mylove_78 I think Korea was part of Japan that time. I read from some that they volunteered in the Japanese army. After the war, some Japanese prisoners of war were sent back. And there was a Korean officer was executed for war crimes to the Filipinos. I need to get back at that comment where he named an author of a study or a book about it. There are not really substantial proofs about the rumors of Koreans being more vicious because their population in the army was few. But they could not discredit the rumors because of the witnesses during the time. Tbh, I just heard about it from my mom who heard it from her family and neighbors but I did not really mind about it. That's why I'm pretty surprised to see comments here from various people in different Ph places with similar stories. But, well...we cannot hate the new gen for what their ancestors did to ours. I just wished it would not happen again in the future.
Bro imagine hating on 3 yo kid because of his nationality... History is important but we dont have to live in in the past. Hi! I’m a Filipino and I am an elementary teacher :) I guess the reason why we dont despise Japan and their people is that they only occupied our country for a short period of time compared to the 300+ years under Spain. And overall reason why we don’t despise other colonizers is the lack of awareness. The way we are taught in history classes is parang lacking. We study it like it is a story that happened to others that doesnt have anything to do with us. Parang we somehow feel detached to it due to how we are taught in school. So yea 😊
I agree, with how most of us felt detached and does not seem to care about what happened in the pass. I don't hate Japanese, American, British and Spanish people, but they were part of our History and how it turned what is the Philippine is today. Though it is sad to think about how some or our History is removed and forgotten, it is nice to know what or how people lived here in the Philippines in our Pre-colonial History. I think we are just becoming to westernized, nothing wrong with that, but the history of the Philippines is vast and we have a lot to learn from it.
If the thought is for the learners to forge their values and goal formation, attachment to history should definitely be in the books. Learning, definitely, is different from feeling. Objectively, in my case of learning history, I tend to see it as learning from something that happened in the past. Nothing more. If we are going to digest everything and let us be consumed by the emotional distress that happened, how can we move on? Not generally a lack of awareness as the portrayal of the occupation is grave enough to remind us how cruel it is. More research and documentation? What more can we find than the harshness that happened. I assume we're only digging more into negative testaments based on its general principles. On the other hand, if we agree on awareness in the sense that we can use the past as lessons and how we can better ourselves, this will lead to a more inclusive and healthy sphere. Less reactive, more constructive. I think more than the lack of information, teaching the students how to use information and research to create a more inclusive community is ideal. For those who didn't get justice until today is a different story. They must be supported but bringing the idea to a larger scale would just create chaos. We sympathize not empathize. I am sure our lola's and lolo's wouldn't want their apos feel the same feeling they felt. To keep the story short, we don't despise because we lack awareness. We forgive because that's how our Lolo and Lola raised us to be. I am a Filipino and a high school teacher.
I love the girl said that she really didn't know what happened so she don't have a right to judge, but it's funny how Koreans react so harshly and discriminate Philippines wherein they just knew it from school omg
They are so quick to judge on Filipinos and yet kept mum on Jhene Aiko (the person where Bella gets the inspiration for the tats) because she is Japanese American. I guess its harder to bully Japan and America compared to Philippines. And you tell us there is no racism in here. I guess SoKor has no difference with China after all from playing a bully to weaker countries.
I respect the Millennials . I’m Gen X 53 Japanese American. This happened before I was born . Why is Old Korean and Chinese hold still hold grudges living in US ? N
Some people are just racist and narrow minded. Racism is not race specific, meaning, there are a lot of racist citizens all over the world, not just in s.korea or ph or america. They should be educated. That being said, #cancelracism not cancel a country. Forgiveness and letting go takes strength. And it is a choice. Although, those who wants to seek justice should be heard and be supported.
@@pinkydelacruz7325 I understand that. I am angry at first on all koreans. But then, it's not like all koreans are at fault. There are some that like Filipinos/Philippines. And we should not fight back by insulting them, that just makes us similar to the racist koreans. We should just highlight our good characteristics and lift up our flag.
My grandmother was Filipino, she met her Japanese husband in the war. They would have been killed by both sides. They shared 10 years of pure love. My grandfather often told told stories about ww2 about his father tortured, cannibalism, etc. But he never showed hatred in telling the stories. I didn't feel anything that will make me hate japan instead i felt how a war is brutal and scary thus should not be repeated in history. Even in buying things he would recommend products from germany/japan cause they tend to last longer even though he lived during the war..

same, i hear stories about filipino legendary soldiers in the battle field, who are constantly in peril and their allies dying beside them, yet apparently they were still loud, audacious, and unhateful during those times.
fcking truee, my grandmpther was also telling us about this and I was more amazed about how they survived instead of getting angry (tho I did get angry of how they killed the childrens). I didn't let my anger get into me
According to some Japanese those “Japanese” that were mostly in the Philippines during the WW2 were in fact Koreans. And they were the ones who had been very cruel. I don’t know how true this is. But looking at the personality of people from Japan and Korea, i think this might have some truth.
I’ve heard those stories from local Philipinos too, I took it as a grain of salt tho because if a Japanese like me would claim that people(mostly Korean) would call me a “revisionist racist”.
It’s just both countries doesn’t want to happened or repeat the history again.. both countries japan and Philippines trying their best to have good relationships to save the future !
I was born in the 1950's and my Mom would always tell me stories of what it's like during the Japanese invasion and WWII when I was child. But through the years it just became a memory of the past and she moved on. She would always tell me it's a moot point hating people, it will just eat at you inside. Then in the 90's she joined my sister who was a US military wife lived in Nagasaki, Japan on and off for about 10 years, My Mom's perspective for Japanese people changed in a positive way. Maybe "War" brings out the worst in people but that's not an excuse to be cruel and inhumane.

Naruto's plot was indeed explained by this comment.

one trait that can be seen as a double edged sword of pinoys is that we live in the present. we do not dwell in the negativity of our history. this is both good and bad because there's a tendency that we miss what our past can teach us, hence mistakes of the past can repeat or have been repeating. It is good because, we tend to be forgiving and more positive. There's a reason why inspite of our poverty are still one of the happiest nation in the world.

The flag of the Republic of Korea produces the background
"Tai Chi" comes from the classic Chinese "Yi Chuan·XiCi": "Yi has Tai Chi, which produces two yis, two yis produce four images, and four images produce gossip." Assign the origin of everything. In the Northern Song Dynasty, a Taiji diagram composed of yin and yang fish was formed and became a symbol of Chinese Taoism. Therefore, it is generally believed that the Tai Chi picture in the flag of the Republic of Korea was introduced from China since the Goryeo era.

YES.

The Question should be, "should the Filipinos hate Japanese though?"
Is Japan hurting the Philippines in any shape or form right now?
-No, Then why would we angry at them?
But they did? long long ago though.
- Yeah, it was. If any Filipino was done wrong to them by the Japanese that are still alive. They have the right to be angry.
But like I said it was a long time ago. We are not the Filipinos who were hurt by them nor the Japanese right now are the perpetrators back then.
Aren't you at least angry for your ancestors or want justice for the Filipinos?
Did they Apologies to the Philippines? Yes.
Did the Philippines get Justice? Yes, Japan paid in Fine, Apologies, and Blood "Nuked by our Allies."
There is a saying that your friends can be your Enemy. But this saying is both ways.

-Japan is the closest and the highest giving of aid when disaster struck in the Philippines like Earthquake and Eruptions
-Japan is one of the strategic Allies of the Philippines when it comes to the military and territory. Helps us Defend against scums.

Even if they have a passive-aggressive society, they still value respect and politeness to everybody.
We Filipinos can easily forgive. It's in our nature, we're raised to be kind and humble to others. But Filipinos also never forget, we hold on to our scars and we know that those who forget are doomed to repeat history itself

Pero tandaan mo lang na kaya mas di maka move on ang mga koreans sa japan dahil una, 35 years silang under japanese occupation, while philippines was just for 3 years.
Copy pasted from my yt reply
And to add up, korea was occupied by japan for 35 years as compared to 3 years of philippines, and they were brutalized even more.
Lives that are taken during those dark age is not a matter of how long a certain country holds it's empire, a life is a life regardless of nationality.
Never use that disgusting statement elsewhere, that's a disgrace for the lives that were taken and sacrificed for just the sake of power.

Hahahahaha
Hating current Japan with history is plain dumb lol.

I can understand if you don't like me because I'm annoying or something but i really wish you wouldn't hate me just because I'm Japanese."
- Mai Taniyama,
Ghost Hunt Ep. 19
XD
On the contrary, it is sad to see them criticize the victim Korea and support the perpetrator Japan.
Japanese colonial era Many Koreans were killed in genocide at the time, but Japan has yet to reflect and apologize.
Who should we blame?

The most touching conversation I had about the WW2 with a Japanese was when my Japanese principal (I worked in a Japanese public school ) said sorry to me for the harsh treatment of the Filipinos by the Japanese
That’s so heart-warming.. 💕
Oh, that's nice to know. Thank you for sharing.❤️
But she just smiled and comfortably tell me tales as if those didnt happen ❤
edit: she told me stories from what she was told
So it's still true since other people experienced it just not her fortunately
I have nothing but love for Japan, but I want them to be a little more educated about their history.
u from naga?? where was the house built ?? does it still exist?
@@greyzlean No, that was way back 1940s. Haha my grandmother started living in Baguio when she had my mom, and they later moved to Manila where most of their grandchildren including me grew up. The house was sold because my great grandmother was a gambler back in the day and you know the rest.

I'm half Filipino and half Japanese. I was raised in Japan and went to American schools, so I'm sorry to say I can't speak
Filipino.
"That agreement is no longer valid," they would say, "But we'll keep the money thank you."
Japan is not innocent of its colonial past just as many western countries.

@@sanshirada1119 i heard that too. some of the soldiers are koreans being recruited by the japanese.
Another thing why filipinos does not have bad blood against spain, japan ect Because we have this thing called relligion. It taught us the value of forgiving and how wonderfull to live with out any negative vibe within us...
Many Koreand practice Christianity, but still hold grudges against Japan

Agree
they think korean history taught to all countries .😂
Koreans still have a lot of living family members that lived through Japan's imperialism. It's not funny.
@@NaNa-wy2tk we have also think
They are so quick to judge on Filipinos and yet kept mum on Jhene Aiko (the person where Bella gets the inspiration for the tats) because she is Japanese American. I guess its harder to bully Japan and America compared to Philippines. And you tell us there is no racism in here. I guess SoKor has no difference with China after all from playing a bully to weaker countries.
Filipino Gen Y (Millennials): We dont pass hatred to the next Generation.... Look Gen Z now.
Filipino Gen Z: ANIME!!!
I respect the Millennials . I’m Gen X 53 Japanese American. This happened before I was born . Why is Old Korean and Chinese hold still hold grudges living in US ? N
Hahahaha. Yeah.
Uh-oh
I'm a mix of Filipino Gen Y and Z, so I FORGIVE JAPAN, AND THANKS FOR THE ANIME

We should just highlight our good characteristics and lift up our flag.
not all koreans
My grandmother was Filipino, she met her Japanese husband in the war.
They would have been killed by both sides. They shared 10 years of pure love.
Four children, my mother was their youngest.. 💓🕊✌🏼
My grandfather (a journalist) was killed in the war when she was four years of age. Grandmother spent 70 years single and passed in 2016 at 102 🕯✨✨
I hope they are eternally together now 💚
My grandfather often told told stories about ww2 about his father tortured, cannibalism, etc. But he never showed hatred in telling the stories. I didn't feel anything that will make me hate japan instead i felt how a war is brutal and scary thus should not be repeated in history. Even in buying things he would recommend products from germany/japan cause they tend to last longer
even though he lived during the war..
Totoo to.
same, i hear stories about filipino legendary soldiers in the battle field, who are constantly in peril and their allies dying beside them, yet apparently they were still loud, audacious, and unhateful during those times.
fcking truee, my grandmpther was also telling us about this and I was more amazed about how they survived instead of getting angry (tho I did get angry of how they killed the childrens). I didn't let my anger get into me
We learn history not to bear grudges but to learn from it and prevent it from repeating itself....
True po
These should have Japanese subtitles as well, so that Japanese people can watch this and understand our point of view
I agree
basically Philippines loves japan and looks at Japanese people as a friend we value friendship and moving forward ^^)

I agree

I am so proud of those people from the past who fought to survive & stood together to bring us in this humanic era. Salute!!!
Korean attitude so it's obvious
Actually there is a large number of conscripted Korean and Chinese people in the army of Japan during world War 2.
Stupid learn history!
I heard this story too
It’s just both countries doesn’t want to happened or repeat the history again.. both countries japan and Philippines trying their best to have good relationships to save the future !
