I was literally overthinking about the Afghanis and I even broke down in tears looking at their condition. And, this turned to worst,as I reaslised, that I could do nothing to help them except to be silent spectator. You see how the overthinking works. I was unable to focus and wanted somehow to not dwell on this matter anymore, but it was just not getting out of my head.

Thanks for sharing this. A big time over thinker myself, here’s how I combat those monstrous cycles:
    1. I usually try to write it down, or go over my notes from happy days in the journal
    2. I start moving around. Amygdala feels less threatened when in motion and so we start calming down (taking some action)
    3. Cleaning the room
    4. Run/short walk outside. Change of space quickly breaks the thought.
    5. Drink water. Dehydration works in very devious ways.
    6. Eat something. Again, low blood sugar can also trigger a lot of doomsday thoughts.
    7. Fresh air. Deep breathing.

This is the absolute best thing you can do. It teaches the lizard part of your brain (the part that creates the anxious response) that you’re not under threat, and eventually it gets better. And it’s a great skill to have either way, because we all experience anxiety sometimes.

I often catch myself overthinking. I'm aware that I start thinking negatively, but I often don't know how to stop. What happens then is that I get tangled in a spiral of negativity and catastrophizing situations that haven't even happened. Yet, I still don't stop, and it completely paralyzes me. One night, I couldn't sleep. So, how do I deal with it? I talk to people close to me, either on the phone or in person. I do something else, drink a glass of water, go to the bathroom, take a walk in the park, leave my apartment, or simply take a break from books, my phone, and the internet. Sometimes, I just go outside to get some fresh air. I look for anything that can help me in a healthy way at that moment. I hope my comment can be helpful to someone. ❤ Thank you Sadia for this video! Helps a lot because we are not alone.

Thanks Sadia! I keep rewatching this as I am an overthinker as well and sometimes I need a reminder. I think one of the reasons why we overthink may be because we have not grieved our past. We have to learn that just because something happened in our past does not mean it will happen again - however we fear it might do and imagine even worse case scenarios. Externalising it, even through crying, does help us grieve our painful past experiences and look at our future with excitement rather than fear/worry.

The way that I deal with overthinking and worrying is by praying, reading the bible and putting my trust in God's promises, because I have understood that when I'm not in control, He is. I learned that by worrying you don’t add a single day to your life but also, it doesn’t help you solve the problem. Let things handle themselves, they always will. And then we find out we worried for nothing😀

I read it on 8 facts that 85% of the things we worry about never happen. So whenever I start overthinking, I reiterate this to my logical brain and it seems to work sometimes :)

I’ve been praying for some sort of sign to keep on working on myself. This felt like a page from my brain! I am a huge over thinker to the point where it induces insomnia. When I start to feel like a sink full of water that is never ending, I simply say “let it go, tomorrow is a new day, we can conquer it then”. Praying for everyone’s emotional health and growth ❤️

The way you explain and break down concepts while soothing all anxious thoughts that even my adhd brain calms down and concentrates fully for the length of the video is magic. I love this type of talk videos💗. I still replay the confidence one every time I begin to get anxious or worked up. Thank you.

When I overthink I talk to my mind in the third person. “Hello mind, I recognize your concerns, but it’s time to listen to the heart.” Then I try to settle in to deep breath and repeat. Be kind and recognize the thoughts, like Sadia said, there was and still is a purpose for worrying (motivation, safety, etc..)
If they are not useful, Question where they can from? Who is saying them? And then put them to the truth test. Don’t get upset or frustrated that “I can’t “stop thinking”, simply return to the breath and heart sensation :)
Prayer always helps me take my mind off myself and helps me refocus on others and the collective. Audiobooks like The alchemist, The Book of Joy, and the 4 agreements are saviors in times I can’t sleep.

How Incredible to have just seen this video when yesterday I was robbed in my car when I was returning the shopping cart here in Mallorca. It all happened so fast. And I have tried to lighten the effect it had on me all day yesterday, as it all happened so quickly and I was totally unaware until I got home. Yes I started worrying and then I calmed myself saying I am healthy, no one has been injured in an accident. So no point in worrying and dwelling on it, but I feel annoyed to say the least. However, I cannot tell you how frantic I became the moment I noticed the disappearance of my bag and all that it contained, it was in fact as robbing a cherished part of me kept in my cellular. But again I keep telling me you are fine...your life goes on a those of your beloved one,;that is the most essesital part.

Also, doing things with excellence and not perfection is what my faith has taught me and I try to adhere to it. It has helped me a LOT.

I have noticed that just ignoring things that I cannot change is working well for me. I work continuously towards my goals. Always forward. It has come to a point that I am completely able to walk away from triggers for terrible arguments and fights by just moving away. Watch something funny and then I réalise that no matter how awful someone or something is to me ,I can kill it’s power to hurt me . I stop thinking about anything but certain set goals that will improve my skills or mindset.

Whenever I start to worry about something I can't control, I immediately get a pen and paper to write about things that I can control about the situation. Most of the time its about controlling my emotions not the outcome. It cuts the loop of overthinking when you repeatedly do this.

Overthinking is the only job I never had to do an intake for and can’t ever quit. It comes in waves. There are times that it all goes well. Then the wave of overthinking comes that can last for days to weeks and can be so hard that I get a little anxiety from it. What helps for me is to quit the news. I blocked the url’s from the news pages from my iPad. It’s a detox but it helps. The really big and important news will always find a way to me via friends, family or on the streets. And if someone wants to talk about it, than it’s a good conversation topic to learn about. Thanks for the video. I’m seeing this just in the right moment. :)

Hi. Beeing active & busy helps a lot. Be grateful for what you have and what you have reached in life. Be mindful to yourself. Be mindful outdoors and look at nature as a child. Wake up your inner child and think of who you were and who you wanted to be and go step by step. Be with friends & family. Laugh a lot. Listen music and sing, dance like nobody is watching. Clean up the appartment, declutter… so many ideas. Everyone has once a crises of worring to much.

Yes! I tend to overthink things that are uncertain. My mind starts visualizing things that are unlikely to happen and then stay stuck in a cycle.
