"Jugemu"（寿限無）~Japanese traditional comedy in English "RAKUGO" Vol.29
Izumi Shigechiyo was a name I often heard when I was little. He used to be the longest living person at the time. Later, his record was deleted because he was 15 years younger than he was thought to be. Anyway, the story for this time is "Jugemu".
小さい頃ご長寿といえばこの方、と言われていた泉重千代さんは実は120歳ではなかった！？ということをつい最近までわたし知りませんでした。今回は長寿繋がりで「寿限無」について。名前の中のそれぞれのピースについて英語で解説します。途中こんがらがって一部忘れてしまったのも名前が長すぎたから。

Shinoharu, a professional rakugo performer, will be introducing rakugo stories and the charms of rakugo in this program to Fumika, a professional interpreter/translator, who basically has no interest in rakugo nor Shinoharu. Will he be able to change her?
The two will be chatting about Japanese culture and tradition in general as well, so even if you're not interested in rakugo, please check it out to know more about Japan.
New episodes will be uploaded every other Friday, at 5PM.

Very interesting. This was the first I heard about the original, darker ending with the well. It made me realize that the picture book Tikki Tikki Tembo is based on Jugemu. I always wondered about the authenticity of that book, which claims to be based on an old Chinese folk tale... But I now know is definitely not. Like I said, very interesting!
