- Noteworthy features of this fugue:
→ the first two notes of the subject are used as different scale degrees throughout the piece:
→ 1 and 6 (0:24; 1:21; 1:56; 2:08; 2:13; 2:27)
→ 5 and 3 (0:14; 0:34; 1:03; 1:30; 2:04)
→ 6 and 4 (0:54; 1:41)
→ the only interruptions of the continuous flow of 6th notes occur after each episode, emphasising the following entry:
→ before the first middle entry section (0:51)
→ before the second middle entry section (1:20)
→ before the stretto section (1:55)
→ before the coda (2:26)
The fugue has four parts and is written for two players.
Inspiration: I have not been inspired by any particular piece, but it has been brought to my attention that the motif in the head of the subject (spanning the first four notes) is also used in Shostakovich’s 5th symphony.

Have a nice day!
loved it, it was a journey. great transitions through the different tonalities. so nice to see this particular art form still thriving!
Thank you so much, I appreciate it! ^^
A beautiful and great composition! I like it very much! Thanks for uploading!
Thank you very much, I appreciate it! ^^
Rarely have I heard a contemporary fugue that well executed. I was afrai at first by the complexity of the subjet but it was incredibly well done. Thanks for the music !
Thank you so much, this means a lot to me! (=
Bach would be proud.
Thank you so much! ^^
I dare say, Bach would be jealous!
@@pokerandphilosophy8328 Wow, thank you so much! (=
This wonderful! Your exploration of chromatacisms and the voice leading are amazing!
Thank you so much! (=
wow really well made!
definitely a big fan of the interplay between the theme and the counterpoint starting around 1:02
Thank you so much! ^^
this is actually so good, i love the theme sooo much and your use of chromaticism is great, I will definitely be listening to this again
Thank you so much, I really appreciate it! (=
This is rock and roll! Excelent! Best wishes from Brazil!
Thank you so much, I appreciate it! Best wishes from Germany!
The theme and the exposition are particularly commendable.
Thank you so much! (=
I loved it.
Thank you! ^^
Phenomenal.
Thanks a lot! ^^
Another superb one!
Thank you so much! (=
I have recently come around to recording the piece: th-cam.com/video/C9xNSCnE_c8/w-d-xo.html
@@averynhiell , sounds great on real piano.
Very well done!!
Thank you! (:
Bravo!
Thank you! ^^
A really, really good fugue! It would very nicely on a harpsichord too...
Thank you so much! (=
omg this is perfect
Thank you so much! ^^
great composition, I liked especially the change of tonalities and the stubborness (I intend it in a positive way 😀😀😀) of the rhythm.
Thank you a lot! (=
When you write ‘stubbornness of rhythm,’ are you referring to the continuous 16th-runs and the general lack of special rhythmic figures?
@@averynhiell yes, and the drum like pattern of the theme (Tun -TUUN tun-TUUN tun-tun tun-tun tun-TUUN --- seen in the first measures --- which, with the modulation, gives a sense of joyful march, but, with the minor mode, it has also a bit of melanchony in it)
@@vultun29 Yes, I see what you mean. ^^
Honestly super impressive! I would love to here this performed or played with a better sound font. Some of the areas where two or more lines are playing the 16th note runs sound super thick and lack the impressive musicality of the rest of the piece, but I suspect that's probably just an artifact of the basic MIDI sound font.
Thank you so much! (=
There is actually a better sounding version on my channel, although it’s still a MIDI-mockup. Do you find the 16th runs there boring as well?
th-cam.com/video/C9xNSCnE_c8/w-d-xo.html
Also, I’m wondering which parts you actually mean. There are only very few instances of nothing but 16th notes-and there are 16th runs all the way through the piece, in combination with more texture in other voices. Could you point me to time stamps that struck you?
Damn it's so pretty
Thank you so much! (=
Nice one!
Thank you! ^^
I'm watching staccato notes disappear so fast, so cool
Thank you! ^^
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you! ^^
Hello! I recently found your channel, and I am impressed. You get better and better. If you are open to constructive criticism, there are moments where there are only sixteenth notes and they create a certain monotony, which interrupts the flow of the phrases. Of course this is stricly subjective. Keep it up!
Thank you so much! (=
Yeah, I have to remind myself to use more pauses and change up the rhythm a bit if a piece has a lot of sixteenth notes.
Lo tengo tra i miei canali preferiti 😂😊
Grazie, mi sento onorata. (:
Hey. Is it just me or did that opening sound like the cello part at the beginning of Shostakovich's 5th symphony. I'm not accusing you of copyright infringement, that's just an observation.
Interesting! It’s indeed the exact same figure (scale degree 1 up to 6, 5 down to raised 7; also rhythmically). I’m pretty sure I have not encountered the symphony before, so it couldn’t really be inspired by it (if anything, subconsciously). I had already wondered if this specific figure had been used anywhere else. I mean, it’s a very simple and obvious figure, rhythmically, harmonically, and melodically. Thank you for bringing it to my attention. (:
Paljon kiitoksia!
It was good. But the only thing I could suggest is using alto clef, the switches between the bass and treble could be avoided should you decide to do so.
Thank you! (:
I agree, the alto clef would be an elegant solution, but afaik, it is extremely uncommon in scores written for keyboard instruments.
Great fugue! Ouch at 0.45 the software use natural D 😭
Thank you!
You mean the trill? Yeah, I haven’t figured out how to control how the program plays trills. But I think it sounds okay there. ^^
Ci sto lavorando.
Awesome! Is this a four handed piano score?
Thank you! ^^
Yes, it’s for two players.
The beginning kind of sounds like Chopin’s A minor fugue
I see what you mean, but it was definitely not intentional. ^^
@@averynhiell oh that’s not an accusation at all! A compliment if anything
@@ivankolobov9502 Oh, I see, I see. Thanks for the clarification. xD
too fast imo, hard to catch the harmonies and follow the counterpoint because the notes are mixed into mush at this speed (I listened to the “better” version, tempo is still an issue)
i can’t really evaluate it because i can't hear all the important stuff for the above reason
i would be glad to hear this on the harpsichord or organ, in 0.5-0.75x speed however
You can play it back up to half as fast here:
musescore.com/user/28825706/scores/9169905
And if you have Musescore, you can download the score and change the instrument. I’m curious how you like it then. (:
Very good!!!! Keep making more!!!! I would love to hear something from you with more emotion, not every part of a piece has to be blistering scale runs. Very Very good tho!!!!!
Thank you so much! Many of my other pieces have more variety, btw. Perhaps they are more emotional? ^^
It would be even better if you actually played what you wrote. A computer can play anything.
Well, that’s not that easy. I’m not a pianist, and I don’t plan on becoming one. I would pay pianists to play and record it, but I can’t really afford that. I’m currently working on at least optimising the piano sound.
@@averynhiellI think the commenter is talking a load of crap IMO, but from a pianist perspective there are some passages that you would need stupidly large hands for, perhaps not very playable.
@@HuffleScrumblo To be honest, all my four part fugues so far are duets, I haven’t managed to write one that would be playable for a solo pianist.
@@HuffleScrumblo That was what my comment implied. Why write a fugue if it’s hardly playable.
Sorry, but i think it fails like so many fugues do. You should study how Bach made them interesting.
What do you mean when you write “fail”?
as long as it maintains all the rules of a fugue it cannot fail
It do not fail, it fly
@@DavitMinasyan-rn3fv I agree. Of course not everyone will enjoy it, but that doesn’t make the fugue fail in general.
@@jesus-raptor6534 Thank you! ^^
