Hi everybody!
This is the final result of my first attempt writing a sonata (2018).
The intention behind this piece was to write something simple/pleasing to the ear and wrap it into a sonata form. The creation process took nearly 6 months from start to finish.

I must admit, I clicked on this with extreme skepticism. Gosh, how surprised I was to find a beautiful, melodic highly textured piece. With flavours of Scriabin and late romantic piano works. Please, sir. Continue composing, the world needs a revival. Thank you!
This world-class 21st Century Debussy-ish inspired to my ears. Sehr wunderbare ❤
i want to play this so bad but those inner triplets are making me rethink my ability as a pianist. amazing work
Stunning work. I hardly see original compositions that I’m compelled to compliment, but this absolutely deserves the praise.
Very rich and colorful piece. Wanted to listen in for a few bars and ended up enjoying the whole thing.
For me it had touches of Ravel, Scriabin, Kingdom Hearts (lol) and even a little bit of Prokofiev (in the beautiful chromaticly modulating runs).
Thank you so much for this!
Such a wonderfull breathtaking sonata!!! It has spirit of 20th century music, mainly of Scriabin, Impressionism, a little Medtner, even some Feinberg influences! Really very well craft masterpiece!
I'd like to take a moment to thank the algorithm for bringing me here today.
Pretty dope to witness the come up of a genius
your sense of harmony and melodic contour is so obviously profound, really really great work. also incredible work in making the midi sound like a human, you've done a really awesome job with bringing out certain "hidden" melodies, as a real performer would.
Thank you!
Your piece incorporates almost everything that's missing in most modern music. Mystery, elegance, originality.
I liked it, but I think it would be nice if there was a slow, meditative section in the middle and a fast, fiery coda
Excellent sense of thematic development and cogency. Glad this popped up in my recommended. God bless you and may you keep writing stunning works such as these.
Absolutely love it. As a classically-trained pianist who reveres the legendary composers of the past, it is such a damn breath of fresh air to hear a new piece written that’s actually enjoyable to listen to from start to finish. I hope to one day also compose a sonata (I never had university musical training just a private teacher) but have to study composition on my own. Wouldn’t mind some help! 😆 but please keep composing. Will definitely anticipate your next work
Comparing to other pieces written in the modern times that I’ve heard, only yours I would call a true piano composition. Well done, you inspire me :)
Lovely writing! Great work.
A big THANK YOU, Nik. I totally enjoyed the trip.
Now it may seem anachronistic to say this but feeling the real sonata structure in a contemporary piece is exhilarating. At some point I even thought he is going to crack a fugato, or even a fugue" 😉 Your subjects would be strong enough for this !
Now about how your work sounds like, I will not go there and stick to the Chinese saying "he who compares, depreciates" 😅 but of course i would concur to all the references mentioned before me if I had, too. All well deserved. Keep composing and sharing ❤. BC
Wow really cool. I am a composer as well and I write in a neo-impressionistic style, so it is really cool to find a kindred spirit. I love the titles of your pieces as well, I will definitely be looking into your music more
Very beautiful Music which indeed reminds of walking through a paradise garden with many plants and flowers, lights and shadows
and water!Thanks for sharing !
Beautiful, you've nailed the polyrhythmic contrasts between the triplet figure and Theme A. harmonically, it's excellent and a great model of what could be considered cotemporary impression.
Ooooooo I just came across this and I couldn't help but listen until the very end. I absolutely love all the colours and textures in this intricate original romantic piece of yours! ❤
WOOOOOW! this is instantly beautiful and so wonderfully composed. Bravo!
So much beauty in this world. Thank you for sharing yours
Colourful, soaring, outstandingly well-crafted, your work is criminally underrated ! Bravo !
Absolutely beautiful! Thanks for sharing!
What a way to infuse a traditional form with a modern sound! Delightful.
I only wish the sonata form was a bit easier to grasp from the first listen. That exposition is damn eventful!
Ravishing and expertly writen music :)
Amazing, wonderful. I sense an impressionist style, yet very personal and mastered. Kudos!
kompositorisch & auch spielerisch hohe Klasse, Dankeschön.
Sehr gut gesagt
Beautiful music Nik!!
Continue to compose please.......
Respect!!!!!! 🔥You are the real deal!
Absolutely gorgeous piece! I am so impressed and excited to say that I will be learning this as my next project! Bravo!
It's wonderful!
It evoked a kind of mistic emotion. Truly a romantic piece
And so well played
Beautiful piano sonata. Congratulations from Brazil!
So glad I clicked on this.
It's very beautiful.
It is only one word to describe this.... FUNTASTICCCC...
loved it, colourful, rich, emotional. Amazing job!
Very pretty. As the young gens say it, it’s aesthetic. 👌🏼
Very powerful, colourful, polyphonic and majestic sonata! Bravo!!🎵🎹🎧😎
Top notch!
I like the andante dramatico section a lot. It's good. I was a bit worried it would just sound like video game music with the title. Instead I'm very pleasantly surprised. Nice polyrhythms.
I'm really ecstatic with what I just heard, that way of going through tonalities and that everything sounds so natural, so beautiful. I am very excited to hear more of your works and believe me that I will share this work with my fellow musicians. congratulations.
You r GENIOUS....
Awesome composition. I subscribed almost instantly
Me too! ❤
This is really beautiful!
What an amazing masterpiece...
For a moment it felt like I was in a dream O_O
This is a beautiful work that I’ll be emulating in my own works. Good work from another fellow composer.
wow thats really impressive! I love the harmonic progression and the simple but really nice counterpoint!
Fantastic work, I love your late romantic/ impressionistic style! The first measures remind me of some film company intro, I can't remember which one, haha
Wonderful
Love this. Really beautiful piece.
😍😍👏👏👏👏Congratulations! Really Beautiful!
Beautiful, beautiful work! Keep it going! :))
Wow! Wonderful and worth my time. As a fellow composer, I admire this very much.
Magnifique
Phenomenal! Structurally and dramatically exceedingly well crafted. Beautiful harmonies and transitions between sections and motifs. Also great playback, could pass as actual playing!
i sense mysterium
This shows a lot of promise. Keep writing!
Lush! Such a beautiful work that is transportive and reflective! Thank you for sharing! ❤️
Wow, what a marvelous piece ! It evokes the sound world of Rachmaninov, Godowsky and early Scriabin yet does not sound like pastiche. Sure-footed and consistently engaging writing without so much as a weak or dull moment. Sumptuous sonorities, partly helped by your choice of keys. BRAVO, and keep up the good work ! I'll have to choice but to subscribe to your channel now 🙂
Thank you!
incredible! You sir, have earned a sub.
This is so good brother
This is gorgeous~
Wow, this is so great man. Im defenitly getting inspired by this

Amazing piece!!!!!
This is amazing! I am a new composer and you have inspired me
Very nice!
wow youve really hit the nail on the head with this one i got a bit emotional around 3:00 and 7:40 was especially moving
This is really great! Makes me want to play it!
this is so beautiful, and inspiring
great work!! keep going!!
Love it!
Beautiful!
Amazing work
I'd love to learn this piece!
beautiful
i usually think of contemporary music as bland but this was insanely good
Wow😮 Whoa🙌🏽🔥
The first theme is so beautiful. Love the way the lines overlap. Your lines are so clear and sing on their own so beautifully, a lot of times the music I write sounds muddy because of the business of voicings and a lack of clear direction of inner lines. I would love for you to explore denser harmony inside your lines. I think it could add depth to some of the lines in places. Keep up the good work, looking forward to see more of what you produce in the future!
Thank you! Well, adding more density and working with it definitely sounds enticing. But I don't know where to find motivation for that without arrogantly butchering the initial melody and harmonic structure that comes out in the creative process. I do have other pieces with denser harmonies and complex counterpoint that I'll be posting soon however
Would love to learn this
Nice impressionist ambiance
Cool cool🎉
Это действительно круто
I thought you were someone else on another channel that I didn't want. How wrong I was!
Help! I want to get back on your YT channel. Your music is compelling, and I want your channel back!
Hello! I really appreciated this composition; that is the style I like the most (complex in harmony but simple and sweet in the melody). What program do you use to make a video like this? It looks so professional, and it would be so useful for me to have it
Hi! Thank you. I use Sony Vegas Pro to make these videos. There's a bit of a learning curve though, but it is worth it!
This is so original (and good, but I think I don't have to point this out...), and sometimes, it slightly touches on Ravel. Moments that very softly tickled my brain while listening. A slight inspiration that is not unoriginal but quite the oposite. Just like Mozart looked at Handel for some moments of his Works.
Beautiful! right hand reminds me sometimes of Godowsky Le Cygne
please put this work of art in spotify 🫶
Will you be uploading this on Spotify ? Loved the composition
Yes, it will be on Spotify very soon
I wish I'm more comfortable writing these more (so-called) "French" harmonies instead on clinging on the (so-called) "German" composer styles...
Knowing the French language definitely helps. French is a language of vowel, German is a language of consonant, the language is reflected in the music.
@@PieInTheSky9 indeed. Listen to the beautiful French Army choirs!
I love it! Is it a recordingn of you playing? Or if it is made by software, which did you use?
Thank you! It's a midi written from scratch using FL Studio. Eeach measure was automated individually (tempo & dynamics) to imitate human playing. I do midis because I don't have access to a piano.
@@nikriedel love it! It came up beautiful
I’m currently beginning to learn composing and orchestrating, may i ask you if i can try to orchestrate this piece? As i said i’m a beginner and i don’t even know if i will actually finish it but i would be really happy to try
@@marcocarellario6810 Sure! You have my permission. If you don't have the score, contact me: nikriedel11@gmail.com

Hoy can I get de sheet music?? 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Very beautiful work 🙌🏻👏🏻💕
Thank you! Check the description🙂
это очень круто. Я бы это назвал Посвящением Рахманинову.
This is a masterpiece! What piano VST are you using?
Thank you! Synthogy Ivory II Grand Pianos + a little EQ tweaking
@@nikriedel Can you PLEASE please share how you came up with this melody and the harmonies and chose the title? I am struggling with writer's block and hearing these peices is soothing. Thanks for sharing
Hope you can share nay insights on how you came up with this melody or melodies in general.
@@leif1075 I don't really know how to answer this honestly. All I had in my mind is the intention to write something beautiful and soothing with a clear goal to finish the project (even if I'll be struggling with self-doubt and tempted to quit). The music came out of nowhere, and the rest was just letting my body and intuition do the work without getting in the way too much. There was a battle in my mind however. It was using my own theoretical knowledge to sabotage and mess with the project so it would't sound the way I wanted. I won the battle because I knew that will happen.
So, I thought if I can predict my sabotaging behavior and manage it through emotional regulation and self-awareness, I can navigate my creative blocks without feeing stuck in one place.
😍
May i ask, what is that beautifull chord progression on 3:20 where it modulates to the sharps?
Bb minor: VI - IV - I - minor V, VI - VII - Alternative VI (F# min/A, since there's no Gb minor), and then the same sequence in C#minor. The F# chord created a simple opening to modulate into the sharps. I chose C# because it sounds interesting in relation to the Db major/Bb minor axis. It kind of creates a subtle yet noticable contrast between the keys and doesn't mess with the ear too much🙂
Excellent piece!
Btw, do you have perfect pitch?
Thank you! No :) I remember being hyped up about perfect pitch, but now I'm just happy with my relative pitch because it gets the job done
@@nikriedel Do you have any tips for writing long piece like this?
💫🌹🎶🌹💫yeah, really nice! I know you said you're self-taught as composer; but you're well taught in theory & pianoforte pedagogy. So, where'd you study? Ithaca College, Mansfield, Berkeley?
Thank you! I studied in a small town of Kazakhstan, in a college full of talented teachers. Although this college is known for pushing its students to their limits, I was lucky enough to be surrounded by those ambitious teachers and learn their ways which include strong discipline and attention to detail :)
