Good idea for a video! Actually, the Strauss/Cziffra was played by Cziffra himself (not Yuja Wang) in this video. It is a greater accomplishment than all of the other recordings due to the sheer speed and accuracy.
I was expecting some completely impossible passage from Boulez, Stockhausen, Sorabji or "new Complexity" composers like Finnissy or Ferneyhough to come out on top, but that variation is somehow even more unhinged😂
@@user-tc8ut9oc4jI made a piece with 6th chords going down like a scale as fast as the diminished octaves going down in yankee doodle variations but still cant play Hungarian rhapsody 2, AND THE SIXTHS CHORDS WERE IN A TUPLET OF 6!

The craziest left hand jumps I've done are usually in improvs where i'm trying to juggle 3 voices as best as I can (I am improvising after all...) and they span most of the keyboard, but are only one or two notes. Those jumps in Bravura are ridiculous! Truthfully I didn't think the Yankee-Doodle variations sounded all that good. That said if that was sight reading, very interesting.

Hello i have commented As one of this guys friends, I can confirm he can play (or at least attempt) level 10 and do it well So well done nice video edit too
Honorable mentions (actually candidates for n. 1): - Alkan Concerto 1st movement, measure 463 and on. The jumps aren't that far, but they are full chords at an unbelievable speed. - Schumann fantaisie, end of 2nd movement. Perhaps the most notorious leaps passage in piano music. Nearly every great pianist who has attempted it in a live performance has butchered it. Yes, even the best of the best who can breeze through the hardest passages of Rach 3 and Feux Follets without breaking a sweat - they still go and make a mess of wrong notes and uneven rhythms of this Schumann passage. Too funny Schumann put this horror in one of the greatest piano pieces in all the literature, and pianists simply have no other option but to play it :)
What about S. 140 4b? Not just the left hand though. Cziffra’s Sabre Dance and maybe some jumps in how Katsaris performs Liszt’s transcription of Beethoven’s 9th symphony might also be up there. Also pieces for the left hand alone
as someone whos played bravura its quite a bit harder than yankee doodle. both hands jumping >>> one hand jumping so if you only count the left hand i guess yankee doodle is harder
Great selections, but I think it’s important that you have video for all of them, rather than sheet music, because you can only truly appreciate the jumps when you see someone performing them. The overhead-style videos, like Rousseau and Traum, work great for seeing jumps clearly, but even when an overhead view is not available, some kind of footage is much better than just sheet music.
@@ryzikxWitnesses to what? His playing at the original speed of the unedited version? First, his technical skills in all his other videos do not come even close to the level of this kind of virtuosity - sight-reading or not. Thought this was hand-crossing, lol, but I would say Sabre Dance/ Cziffra should be in number 8 place. Number 8 should be lower than 7. Number 3 should be in 4. If you ever do a hand cross video, include Scarlatti sonata K 24 or Islamey for sure
