Looks great, love the old axle look too. You are SO!!! right, do it now and don't look back because there usually isn't a second chance, I have learned that the hard way telling myself, "I'll do it later or next time", later and next time never came.
Great looking scale truck now ..it looked like monster truck before ..their called half shafts that fit in those hubs on full size they always breaking ..keep up the good work !! Keep the mind active ..don't wish just do it !!!
Hi, Dennis! Lovely build as usual. I'm trying to steel your idea for my Cross RC Demon. *A couple of thoughts:* 1) If you're not particular about these 8-spoke wagon wheel style rims (which I totally get it if you are, since they're so classic), I might humbly submit for your consideration Boom Racing's 16-hole steelies for the LC70. They are incredibly evocative and scale looking. They too have nice front and rear center caps (although the way they screw on is proprietary, it seems). 2) I think it's great that you have the disc breaks, but I'd personally prefer to have calipers too. The issue, of course, is that they can be impossible to install without some custom part designin' and fabbin'. However, they probably wouldn't be too visible and appreciable through these narrow triangular spoke gaps. 3) My general stance on RC leaf springs is that I'm not particularly thrilled to begin with about the already reduced leaf count out of the box, let alone stripping them down to just the main one. It kinda defeats the purpose of having leaf springs altogether. I think the rest of the industry should take it from JD Model's playbook and give the leaf springs the same treatment they gave with their Ford Raptor Hero, where they had decorative plastic leafs on top of a single functional one. That, I think, was an optimal performance VS. scale compromise.
I was going to upgrade to the 16 hole wheels they weren't out at the time I built this one. The leaf spring idea is really cool I want to look in to it. I have some faux calipers for the truck but never got around to install them yet,
Any link to the axels? And could you just flip the leaf springs under the stock axel instead of over? Had a bruiser when I was young but never got it running right. Thanks!

Do you think this mod would be easier or cheaper if you start off with the hg p409 ? or would it be about the same amount of work , from the images it looks like the axles are narrower than the 407 plus you get the kc rollbar instead of the wide cab extension , i am looking to build one of these and trying to decide which one to get , any thoughts ?
The HGP-409 wasnt out when I did this conversion, from what i remember the 409 has a straight flat frame opposed to the 407's curved frame over the axles giving it room to lower it and giving the axles room to move up in the body, the 409 has bigger pumpkin centers on the axles also and if you want to use a 1.55 tire the center pumpkin might be dragging the ground . the axles I used were from the king kong 1/12 military rig.
@@dennisdempseyradiooutofcontrol , yea thats why i ultimately went with the 407 , i have wanted a highlift since i was a kid but once i realized that it didnt have interior , and that the diffs were not lockable that killed the idea for me , i have had the 407 for about 3 days and it has been one hassle after another , the electronics were not working it would shut off every ten feet and once i somewhat got past that i realized the transmission was jacked up , really regretting my purchase now , i figured i would at least get to drive the thing before pouring a ton of money into it , thats chinese stuff for ya , explains why it was so " cheap "
@@TheRandomMechanic the quality control must have gotten bad recently from what i am hearing the bearings are hit or miss and the gearboxes seem to be a problem lately, some are assembled dry and stick between shifts or are put together wrong, a lot of people buy the kit to assemble themselves and buy their choice of radios. I have been replacing the rtr radios with the surpass 4 and 6 channel ones they are around 35-40 bucks on ebay, I just bought one today.
@@dennisdempseyradiooutofcontrol im thinking the transmission is dry cause when i changed the motor out for a sport tuned tamiya 540 i noticed the gears were spotless clean , i may need to pull it apart , the issue is that it has trouble finding 2 wheel low it just goes in between and lands on neutral , not that il use two wheel low that much but it is still annoying none the less , do you have a video of the surpass radio system ? i would like to see the setup i may switch over myself cause the stock radio is trash

looks very good but this axles looks more like dana, i think yota-style axles are closer to original. how durable are this axles? are the case is plastic? thanks
Yea I agree , I did the yota axles on the following video, ( the super scale blue toyota) but they stick out of the wheel housings a little. the dana looking ones are all metal and have a locked diff with hardened gears comparable to the rc4wd yota gears, the 6x6 truck they came from is huge and heavy so I figured they would hold up to the 407 weight easily.
Those are hard to find, glad you found one. I'm expecting the bids to go through the roof at the last second, I missed a original first release hilux a few months back it was freshly listed with a buy it now for 260.00 and by the time I processed the payment to the guy it was gone! Bummer! lol

Tamiya tracktor/trailer truck have a narrow axle, can it be used on bruiser chassis ,? They are 1/16 if im not mistaken ..
Yeah they do have a narrow axle, they are 1/14 scale,

I used the King Kong RC GA-30 truck axles on it.
