I am brand new with discovering gelli plate printing. I haven’t even opened my plate yet and still tubing around to learn. Please no laughing at this question…because I’ve only seen thin types of paper being used, I’m wondering if good watercolor or mixed media paper can be used to pull your print? This artwork is so beautiful ! As a multi media artist I’d love to learn more and start incorporate prints into my work. For the step to prep your wooden board first to seal it before adding your paper, is there any reason why you use gloss medium instead of mat medium or gesso or anything else? Susan, you mentioned that you put encaustic wax on top of your gelli prints. What do you put on the gelli prints before applying the wax because encaustic wax won't adhere to acrylic (assuming that you used acrylic paint on your gelli prints) ?

Hi 👋 I don’t do anything to the pages, I use mat medium to glue the papers and I’ve not had an issue with them peeling off. If you wanted to make the surface more stable you could sand the pages lightly and then paint with either clear or white gesso which gives the paper some tooth to grip onto 🙌

Hi Charlotte, I usually source mine in the bargain shops that sell food and household stuff, they usually have a baby book section. The ones you are looking for are for younger children, they are hard pages so that the babies don’t rip them. Car boot sales and charity shops, eBay are also good places to source them.
