I have found that children’s sketch pads with PURE WHITE paper make excellent pulls. Sometimes the pads have grayish paper, so be sure you get what are looking for. Typically these padded papers are strong, but the best part is they have no chemical treatments on the surfaces that mess with the paints we use. 😊😊😊
That particular Sketch Paper is my absolute favorite too. I saw Elizabeth St. Hilaire using it, tried it, and never looked back. I still use the others once in awhile, but the Sketch Paper has become my gel printing workhorse.
Froyle! Been watching you for a couple of months now, you are an inspiration and delight!! Just got my first Gellie kit, now I just have to quit my job so I can make beautiful papers and collage all the live long day!!!!!
I can spend the entire day pulling prints. I go to our community center, they have long tables, so I can work both my plates and have plenty of room to lay out my prints for drying. Plus I can razzle, dazzle the other people using the center.
Thank you for your tutorial on paper. You videos are always so educational and inspiring. Your prints are brilliant. Your smile lights up my entire screen!!!
One of my fav videos. I love handmade paper. So organic. Using them makes me feel connected to the artisans who have created them…down through the ages.
I have most of those papers because I watched an earlier video of yours. Now I’m going to try using the papers just as you do, because your prints this time are impressive.
You never fail to leave me smiling Froyle😊 Thank you for that! I do have one question, when you use the Kozo papers for texture on your prints… do you restrict them to one use or can you reuse the multiple times? Andrew do you use them after they are painted ? Well I guess that’s two questions 😂👏🏻
Thank you for this, Froyle. It was wonderful to see all the results and learn the best types of papers to use. I appreciate you sharing your knowledge.
++ Thanks for sharing this with us. And for the link to Kozo Studio. I have been looking for a source of these papers that will deliver to Australia. I put in an order today and it is on its way already. The prints from the textured papers are wonderful. 😀
i have used tee and coffee bags that have been emptied to use in my work they look good painted with acrylic mixed with water and really good with pearlized ink they are quite fragile but can look like butterfly wings
Froyle, thanks for the info on papers. I like your new stencils. Please talk about ways to prevent bubbles and creases when gluing papers into a dylusions journal. I am getting better but still frustrated. I use fluid and gel medium and occasionally glue stick or liquid glue. I just keep trying to get my pretty papers and focal pieces to stick and stay stuck and try to keep book pages from sticking together. It’s frustrating and disappointing at times.
I use baking paper to put between my journal pages so they don't stick. You just have to work the paper you put down to ensure you get all the bubbles out, go from the center toward the outside edge, all the best, cheers
Try this…Spray the back of your piece of collage paper with a little water from a fine mist sprayer… then paint your glue on the support ( = your collage base….just a note, the term substrate comes from the building trade, it became popular with the Mosaic and hobby crafters on line some years ago, but Support is the Art term for your base… ) and then collage piece… start in the middle (as Froyle says here) I use an old credit card the gently push out all the air bubbles and wrinkles.. brush over the top with more of your Matt medium or what ever you are using as glue.. Cheers
Thank you so much for this excellent information, Froyle. So very helpful indeed. Had a blast, watching the video. Now I'll have to order the strong tissue paper too. I MUST try that too for sure. What a great way of beginning my sunday. Thank you so much. :-)))
@@FroyleArtHi fellow Kiwi!! Love this info Froyle, and your name! Anyhoo, I have found the cheap rolls of Greaseproof paper ( 2AUD for 30cm ( 11.8in ) wide x 30metres long ( 98.4f) ) works like wet strength tissue. Has a dull side and a shiny side. Prints and sticks both sides. But I usually pull print with the shiny side and glue down with the dull side. It is almost transparent when glued with a Matt medium. Also what Watercolour or Quality Printing paper do you like best on your plate? I like a 300gsm (140b) hot ( smooth) pressed. Cheers and thanks for all your wonderful enthusiasm in your vids!! Love them ❤
Where did get that small stamp with the writing on it? I love that one of the gates, I think that would be fantastic in a college. I understand Cathleen of COZ Creations love you also. I sure loved this video, Thanks.
Hi Froyle , with the mulberry bark if you take a piece spray with warm water and gently start stretching it it makes amazing marks. Pull at different spots and the bark starts to separate. Maybe worth a try x
Fabulous tutorial. Thank you! I'm also based in NZ and wondered if the colour laser prints can be done at places like Warehouse Stationery? Or do you need another special type of printer?
I just started gel printing today. What a disappointment. This was prior to this video so 🤞🏼I get better. I have used a lot of dyed oriental papers where I have dyed them with acrylic ink. I will caution you about dollar store or coloured gift wrap paper. It is not lightfastness!! I put a bunch of colours by a window and they totally bleached out in a week or so. I do not know about the black you used. It looks stunning, but…. I guess you will have to wait and see. It was suggested when I started not to even factory dyed Kozo paper as lightfastness might be questionable. You might want to test it prior to selling a piece. Thx for the great video!!!
Went to Kozo Papers website after you mentioned them. If I didn’t already have hundreds of dollars of similar paper I would definitely consider purchasing from them via your 10% offer. We are lucky in Vancouver, Canada to have access to two stores that offer many of these papers which they probably source from Kozo. There are a few that you used in your video that I might need to add to my collection! Thanks again!!
Hello, fantastic creations ... 😃😃😃👍 could tou tell me please what Laser Printer do you use? Because the one I'm using doesnt works and all the transfers are empty. Thanks 😉
Hi Froyle, thank you for the video! I just want to confirm, do we need to allow EACH layer to dry before moving on? And the last layer should be wet, correct?
What do you recommend for large A2 prints with the intention of framing. I've tried 180gsm paper and it curled and creases which can be noticed once framed. I'm looking for something heavier. I live in the UK and not sure if to go for a thick card or if there is a specific paper I can buy in large format.
Excellent, very informative video! Thank you! Someone told me that they use dollar store tissue and have no problems because they give the back of the paper a light coat of spray varnish. I am skeptical, so I would like to hear your thoughts, please.😊
Brilliant, Froyle….great info and video !! Please forgive me for asking a silly question…..but is it possible to use the Kozo paper as a patterned imprint on the gel plate more than once ? Although, to be fair, because the size of each piece of paper is large enough to get 9 pieces ( if using an 8” by 10” gel plate)…..it would still be quite reasonable even if we can only use it once. I have just been looking at all the wonderful papers on the Kozo website….OMG….I have never seen anything like it. Some of their papers are so stunning, they could actually be framed and hung on the wall as pieces of art !! By the way…..I recently joined Skillshare and am really loving your classes !! 🥳🥳🤩🤩💕💕
Great video, thank you. At the beginning when you talked about rice paper you sprayed something onto the blue and it resisted the paint. What did you use? I really liked that effect. Was it alcohol?
Wonderful video! I have wet strength tissue, and Hammermill premium color copy paper, a clay coated paper for printers. I want to try the rice paper! Do you print on the smooth side or the rough side?
