"Father Figure" is a song by English singer George Michael from his debut studio album, Faith (1987). It was released on 28 December 1987 as the album's fourth single by Columbia Records. The song reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 11 on the UK Singles Chart. Additionally it was a top 5 hit in Australia, Belgium, Canada, Iceland, Ireland, the Netherlands and Spain.

Hands Down!! The best of George Michael! This song was something special from George Michael...it was different, sexy, haunting and beautiful... Being a George Michael fan made it even more special.

One of the sexiest songs from the late 80's back then George Michael was on fire on Black radio and pop radio as well. I remember this song and the song "One More Try" (also from the Faith album) were on the countdown at the same time on urban radio. One More Try was number one for weeks. Black folks loved George. He crossed over to us and we loved him. It's really sad he is no longer with us.

This is probably my favorite GM song and he has so many great songs. So, I think that this video and the lyrics of this song are a little deeper than they first appear. Back when this was a monster hit and on constant rotation on MTV, we all tried to figure out what was happening in this video. Seems at first glance that she's fooling around on her boyfriend. The lyric that gives it away to me tho is "sometimes love can be mistaken for a crime." George is actually obsessed with this model. He stalks her and imagines all the scenarios they are together, but they aren't. She's just trying to live her life and be happy with her BF, but my dude is everywhere, watching her and calling her, and it's driving her crazy. That was our take back in the day, but I think they left it vague purposely. In any event it is a beautifully shot video. Definitely up there as an 80s classic.

I saw him perform this song on his final solo tour in 08 in San Jose, California. He was still great. It was my first and only time I saw him live.

💃🏻❤️‍🔥🚕 You know fans were sliding off their chairs when they heard him sing “I’ll be your daddy” 😅 (especially the gays with our often difficult or distant relationships with our own fathers)… Only a taxi driver with THAT much swag and luxe styling could win her heart, but that obsessive controlling love is always doomed. Hence those dark minor chords bringing foreboding to the ending.

I think this track was the first George Michael song I've ever heard, and to me his voice seemed otherworldly when I was a kid. That man, as a white guy, sang with more expression and soul than some of the black r'n'b singers.

Definitely my second fave GM song ever (after "Freedom '90"). Just pop perfection. And I actually never realized that the video is pretty good too. Totally 80s but in a gritty way. I remember reading that this song was originally more of an uptempo song and he decided to cut the snare and some of the drums and realized it worked better as a slow jam. Genius.

Gonna say it, George's voice is so s e x y! hehe He works best blended with soulful background vocals as his voice has the same quality. This song is top of the class! (oh and he can be my Daddy lol period!)
