      @@shawn2071 it depends. If your GPU has dual bios, and one of those is working, you should be able to recover it.

    Great video, First, how would i know if i have a modified GPU bios ?!
    2nd, did you experienced any issues when you paired the RX 580 with the B550 ?! because i heard many people saying they got black screen..
    Cuz i have an RX 580 and I'm about to buy the rest parts, same like yours (B550 + R5600) so i just want to avoid issues.
    One more thing, did you faced any problems when you installed Win 11 ?
    Thanks in advance.

      1st Q:
      It is a bit hard to tell if it is 100% the original bios on it. But usually, I am looking for the GPU Core Clock and Mem Clock in GPU-Z software and then I compare the clocks to the ones that are listed on manufacturer website or Techpowerup spec page of that GPU.
      Also, when you go on Advanced tab on GPU-Z you will havedrop-downown menu‚ there you have to go to AMD Bios.
      And here you will have a Part # from what I've seen with recent GPUs from Sapphire‚ that doesn't match with the one that is labled on the GPU's shroud sticker.
      But you might check that one too‚ if they match and the clocks matched with the ones specified by the manufacturer it is 100% the OG bios. If the clocks match but the Part # doesn't it might be a different one or not (as in case of Sapphire's more recent GPUs).
      2nd Q:
      With my Ryzen 5 5600g I haven't encountered any compatibility problem when pairing it with RX 580 and my B550 motherboard (at least not while using the standard bios/quiet bios‚ with performance bios I had some weird problems and I am not sure if it is caused by my B550 motherboard or some weird mismatch with the Performance bios that I have flashed). Also, in some cases it might happen that some motherboards would not fall back to PCI-e Gen 3‚ and could cause a handshake problem with the GPU. In my case this doesn't happen as 5600g doesn't support PCI-e Gen 4.
      3rd Q: With Windows 11 I have a mix experience. But While using RX 580 + 5600g I haven't encountered problems. Except in 2022's winter when there was a weird problem with Windows Updates forcing a certain AMD Driver that wasn't compatible with Radeon Software that was installed with the Drivers I have installed from amd.com. And a few months ago when I have used it for the last time‚ it worked perfectly fine with the latest driver from AMD website‚ and Windows didn't force a different driver on it.
      Also, when installing Windows 11 (if you don't use certain tricks to configure it without an online account)‚ setup with your Microsoft account‚ do the basic preference settings. And then when you get for the first time to the desktop‚ go to Windows updates and check for new updates (or it will check automatically). It should find some AMD drivers also. Let them install and after that restart your PC and go to amd.com and from here download AMD chipset drivers and AMD Graphics drivers. Install firstly the Chipset Drivers‚ restart PC‚ install RX 580 drivers‚ restart PC. And from here you'll have to install the rest of the things you need and want.

      To flash the bricked bios‚ you either have to use an iGPU (if your CPU has any) or as you said‚ power on with the "working" bios and while booting flip the switch on the broken bios.
      Before flashing make sure to check your exact model of RX 580. I know there are some different models of XFX. You can add me on discord and I am gonna try my best to help you.

    is there any way to check what bios version do you currently have? i bought a used rtx 580 that turned out to have been used for mining but im not sure that i should be taking the risk (because there always is some) of flashing a new bios. besides, my model (sapphire nitro +) has dual bios, presumably at least one slot would be left untouched?

    • @MirelRC
      @MirelRC  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can check the clocks with GPU-z. The bios version seems to be the same between different versions of Sapphire Nitro+ (even though some might have 4 or 8 GB or higher clocks).
      One bios would have a silent profile and the other will have a performance profile (or OC profile; each manufacturer calls it a bit different). But in case of Sapphire‚ the Performance bios is the one that has the higher boost clock that is marketed on their spec page. So, for an RX 580 Nitro+ the performance bios should have a boost of 1411 MHz and the Silent bios should have a boost of 1340 MHz.
      Before flashing anything, I recommend you to make a backup to the bios you want to overwrite (to flash over the new bios).
      If the other bios is untouched by the guy that used it for mining‚ use that other bios as there isn't a big difference between them.
      To switch between bioses you can flick that small switch in the opposite direction.

    • @MirelRC
      @MirelRC  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If you idle, the core clock and mem clock will get lower to save power.
      When it is in use, the mem clock should be 2002, and the core clock will depend exactly on your model's capabilities.

    • @MirelRC
      @MirelRC  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Pretty much. OC or Performance bios should reach around 1411 MHz while boosting. The base clock is 1257 MHz. I am not sure if the 4GB model has dual bios, but you can try the other one if it has a bios swith, maybe it has the second bios untouched.

    • @MirelRC
      @MirelRC  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well, I don't have any experience with those Mining Edition. But before doing anything with it‚ back-up your BIOS‚ you have many ways of doing that. I would suggest to make 2 or 3 back-ups‚ one with GPU-Z and one with amdvbflash software.
      Then you have to watch for the specs of your GPU in GPU-Z. The most important being the Memory vendor and Shader count.
      If you have an iGPU in your PC it would be even more helpful in case the thing will not gonna display.
      After that you'll have to find a bios for Asus RX 580 GPUs with the same Shader count and same memory vendor.
      I hope it will not gonna be a hustle to do that‚ as some Mining GPUs have some "protections".
      I would suggest making a post on techpowerup forum. There are some awesome guys that know more than me and they have more experience with those mining GPUs.

    • @MirelRC

      Firstly you can check if your VGA bios is flashed. Get GPU-z to check the clocks:
      -gpu clock (base) should be for you 1506 MHz
      -boost clock should be 1683 MHz
      -mem clock should be 2002 MHz (8Gbps effective speed)
      And you can press on the lookup button on top right. If that button sends you to the right page of your GPU‚ it should be alright.
      BTW try to check the RGB connectors to see if there is any cable disconnected. If not I recommend you to try to use SignalRGB‚ as with Asus software I've had badluck until now.

    Hey, I got my hands on 2 AliExpress branded 2048 SP cards.
    Both started to black screen after booting onto Window. But both displayed video property with default VGA basic drivers.
    After installing the official AMD 580 drivers is when they started to black screen.
    Would this be a good indicator of a minig BIOS?

    • @MirelRC
      @MirelRC  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@KSword007 could be a mining BIOS or just a bad BIOS the guys have flashed onto that GPU. You could try to search on techpowerup for such situations, some guys succeeded in fixing those GPUs, and some didn't.
      It could work to flash an RX 570 BIOS (usually you have to find a GPU that could match the Outputs of your RX 580 2048sp), but it isn't guaranteed.

      @@KSword007 yeah. I know, the problem is if it doesn't have the correct vBIOS, it will not output the image after installing AMD's official drivers, some will not output even without drivers.
      When I flashed the first time the GPU I used in this video, I used the wrong BIOS, and it was not outputting the image with AMD's drivers installed.
      Also, if you will flash a new BIOS on those 2048sp GPUs, you have to match the memory vendor too, so you will have to disassemble the cooler if you want to be 100% sure what Memory vendor the GPU has. You'll have to do that for both.
      And in case you have an iGPU on your PC, you could use the iGPU to output in case the flashed BIOS can't display images even without Drivers.

    • @HardWhereHero
      @HardWhereHero 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Your Bios, Vram or BGA is going bad. The cards are garbage. You can try to blast them with some heat, but just because you hear the windows chime dont mean shit, you can boot windows 10 without a gpu and get the same result. The cards will black screen when you load up drivers? The Vram is bad, the bios chip is bad or the cold solder behind the GPU has broken off due to constant heat and re-heat cycles. You might be able to blast it with some heat, like throw it in a oven and fix the borken cold solder. Works about 50% of the time. Keep in mind in the future, when a GPU behaves like this, it is no longer going to work properly. The GPU is in "limp mode" like a car with the check engine light.

      @@Davidut366 you gotta check what memories your GPU has. For REV 1.1 there are Micron and SkHynix.
      For the Micron version, I see that there are 2 versions FZ3 and F93. Theoretically, if your GPU had F90 - F92, you have to use the F93, for FZ0 - FZ2, you have to use FZ3. Also, after BIOS flash, you have to use the atikmdag-patcher (specifically if your GPU isn't detected). The flash utility and patcher are available on the Gigabyte page of that GPU.

    How to check if my second hand gpu use for minimg?

    • @MirelRC
      @MirelRC  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The only way I know is to use GPU-Z.
      There are 2 ways of telling that.
      One by looking at clocks:
      GPU clock
      Memory
      Boost
      All 3 should match what the values your model has specified by the manufacturer.
      And a second thing would be by pressing on "Lookup" button on top right in GPU-z.
      Also, I think that there could be another way of checking if the GPU has S/N or P/N written on it and then check the S/N or P/N with amdvbflash GUI tool.
