PI FINALLY BATTLES MAY! | Pi Plays Pokémon Sapphire

- From Stream #471 Part 2 - 23/05/2024
Welcome to this experiment, where the number π controls Pokémon Sapphire via its digits.
Inspired by the age-old question of "Can you find the entire works of Shakespeare in Pi?", and more recently by Mutekimaru Channel (Fish Plays Pokémon) and obviously TwitchPlaysPokemon, we aim to see whether there is a "game-winning sequence" inside well-known mathematical constants.
Every digit between 0-9 is mapped to a button and fed into the game per each second, making the number in question automatically play the game.
This project is streamed on Twitch, running 24/7 on a Google Cloud server.

"You just got that pokemon but it already likes you." -May, after waiting 2 years for us to get to her.
in 10 more years it might make it to the Wally catching tutorial
so it should beat the game shortly after the heat death of the universe
YESSSSSSS
I think this area is especially difficult because of the ledges though. I think it will get to petalburg pretty quick so Wally shouldn’t be that bad. Getting through petalburg woods will take years though IMO just because of the ledges that reset your progress so far.
@@june-ls1hwdepends on what you call quickly, since this actually happened about a month ago (atleast that‘s what someone in stream said)
He has made it to route 102 and beaten the first trainer there too though, so that‘s decent progress for 1 month I‘d say. But it will only get tougher from here, I can‘t imagine we get past petalberg woods since there are way more ledges and way more grass.
@@lio8066 Yeah.. I’m not sure I can imagine this ever making it to rustboro haha
And it only took two years. I'm so proud of Seth
just remember we got this before a second shiny seedot
He encountered a shiny in the process? Wow.
I got that refence, haha
i still check back in every month or so. we'll get it eventually!!
Thought I was the only one checking and comparing both lol
@@TheHeavieKiwie Probably, but they're referring to the Pokemon Emerald Shiny Prof. Oaks Challenge livestream here on YT that's been going a year and a half and is still on the first gym because they need a second shiny seedot (1% encounter and 1/8192 Shiny odds for ~1/819,200)
NO WAY HE GOT A LV 83 SCEPTILE BEFORE FIGHTING MAY 💀💀💀
That's what being stuck in the starter area for 2 years does to ya
Seth really dragging out the video for ad revenue... a true content creator
to be fair given how long this took I would too
this is fucking history
And in another two years, it will meet May back at Professor Birch's lab lmao
Actually Seth has entered in 102, so he has the Pokédex and meet May in Birch's place
Ah yes, going back to the lab, finally something Pi is good at
Wow the numbers finally conjured a historical moment
And it only took 76,623,109 digits to pull it off
Another two years to reach the lab, so proud
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've been watching for over a year for this event. CONGRATS MY BOY
What’s happening in the video?
@@Darkstar-ux5yo every digit corresponds to a GBA input. the bot goes over each individual digit of Pi, and controls the game through Pi-determined inputs. (i.e; pressing 1 is A, so every 1 in the full sequence of Pi is an A button press). after a long, long time, Pi has aligned to bring the bot towards the first battle with May and after around 10 minutes of going through more digits, managed to beat her.
SETH STOP TRYING TO RUN AWAY
Seth spent 11 mins headbanging at the awesome song
Pi, constantly trying to run: “I know what have to do but I don’t know if I have the strength to do it.”
I cant believe it, AFTER YEARS OF JUST STUMBLING AROUND SETH DID IT! ( lets be real its going to take 3 more years for him to talk to the proffesor and start the game for real. )
It would be easier to go down and back to professor because of ledges, if he manages to climb back Route 101 then Route 102 should be easier
We already talked to the professor dw! But I don't doubt it'll probably take another three years for him to get to Petalburg
I feel like after the woods. Which most point out will be much easier then the flying gym with its puzzles and resets. (Random resets)
The May battle was so incredibly hype, I'm so proud of Seth, he did amazing that night
HOLY COW! FINALLY!
I remember walking in circles in littleroot 😢
Didn't think I would live to see the day
Good thing that you can't run from trainer battles because that would be fast
When I saw the title my brain went straight to the 2nd rival fight. Mind you it could probably win that with Sceptile now
I'm sure someone has already thought of this, but the Sootopolis Gym is going to be a tall order
Now to the rest of the story we go
11:52 People at the cinema:,😢
I have never heard of this stream but I laughed at the fact it took 76 million digits to fight may... I was not prepared for a level 83 sceptile that's amazing
Little bro is just mashing buttons 💀
You should save after major milestones like this!
Then you can run pi FROM this situation onward, and actually leave the start of the game :)
i mean we're still struggling to get to petalburg so still kinda stuck in early game
OH MY GOD IT FINALLY DID IT I FOUND THIS LAST YEAR AND IT ACTUALLY MADE PROGRESS :)
LET'S FUCKING GOOOOOO
The sequence has done it. After two years, pi has finally been able to fight and win against May. Let's hope for more amazing gameplay soon.
NO WAY Pi about to win it all!
Congratulations, digit #76,623,109 for being the one that wins the battle
The gameplay goes as hard as the battle theme 🔥🔥
Pi beats May before GTA 6
they're trying to switch out sceptile because of the type disadvantage :(
"Bruh it's been two years, where have you been"
I WAS HEEEEEEEEERE! (specifically in the comments. To be clear, I wasn't there at the live stream)
YESSSSS (i was waiting for the vod of the moment, because of course things have to happen while i sleep)
NO WAY NO WAY NO WAT
This was heart wrenching
Best 2 years spent watching of my life !
We're seeing history.
Wow! That's great! Seth, you're pretty good!
LET'S GOOOOOO!!!!!
Lol, I didn't think it was possible
Holy shit, we did it
Unbelievable 😮
This one's for the books
YEEEEEEES IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS FOREVER
Insane!!!
WE ARE WITNESSING SOMETHING UNIMAGINABLE!! THIS IS HISTORY!!
Holy shit a milestone
POGGGGG lets gooooo!!!
Nice!
HOLY SHITTT WE DID IT
THE RUN IS REAL
CONGRATULATIONS SETH
This is insane
He put the work in
👏 👏 👏
Imagínate ser maya esperar por mas de 2 años a que llegue tu oponente, y este llege con un Pokémon nivel 83 contra tu Pokémon nivel 5 en fin si se pudo jente
say what you want but pursuit and leaf blade isn't even a bad moveset
There's worse coverage out there.
LET'S FUCKING GOOOOOOO
Exhilarating
i've been watching this whole time
LETS GO SETH
LETS FUCKING GOOOOOO
OH MY GOD YES
Considering how the only good move sceptile has in pokemon Emerald is leaf blade, the moveset isn't that bad. It even has pursuit.
HOLY SHIT
YOOOOOO!!
Wow let’s go
LETS GOOOOOOOOOOO
Yay
Esto es historico señores en 7 años probablemente veremos orgullosos como derrota al campeon
Seven years is too optimistic. 14, maybe?
23.
holy shit
HUGE IF TRUE 😮
in 5 years this will reach rustboro
Can't fucking belive this it's been so long
HUGE
YOOOO LETS GO CHAT
959 days later
oh my god
Let him cook!
No way
NO WAY
Finally
"a monkey on a typewriter could never write shakespeare" they said. "this experiment is a waste of time" they said
:oooooo
SETH MY GOAT
IT CANT BE-
I wonder if Seth would do better with x/y or sun/moon since they're quite a bit more on rails...
Analogue stick inputs would be hell to work with, I imagine.
Question: Are the inputs not a loop?
After all, if you're just using the digits of pi for inputs, in its order, then eventually you have to repeat because there are no more (known) digits.
& if you have a neverending supply of digits, how? Pi's digits are infinite, but how do you determine which comes next if you aren't looping?
After all, if this whole run just comes down to looping a sequence of digits/inputs, then this the question of the run could be solved much quicker.
The longest current calculation of Pi is 105 trillion digits, roughly enough for another 3 million years. More realistically though, it would be possible to set the system up to calculate the next digit as it needs it and not have a pre-written file. Alternatively 250million digits is about a GB, so fitting enough for another 20 years could be done on a flash drive pretty easily.
@@MudakTheMultiplier So the inputs are known, then? If it's as slow as 1 every second, couldn't the playthrough's route just be determined, then?
@@sagacious03 not necessarily since encounters happen randomly, maybe theoretically you could if you knew which seed the game was on and things like that but I think that would require stopping the game
@@sagacious03 another thing that would matter is if the inputs are given frame-precisely. I.e, "exactly every 30 frames" or "once a second" might not be identical. Finding the exact RNG seed would probably be possible, and simulating game state faster might be, but I'm not sure how much faster you could go.
In short I'm almost certain it would be possible to simulate *a* run faster than real time, but I'm not sure you could simulate *this* run faster than real time.
@@MudakTheMultiplier What do you mean "simulate a run"? Like, simulate a normal human player's way of playing Emerald? A speedrunner's? I mean, if they play in a simple, typical, predictable way, I suppose so. That's loosely similar to what a TAS does.
Albeit, TASes, which are sequences of inputs played out as gameplay, often go faster than 1 per second.
But isn't something as predetermined as a finite known quantity of the digits of pi already extremely innately predictable?
Buena el bot del pi
AND I MISSED IT?!?!?!?!?!
NO FUCKING WAY
Jolly shit its motherfucking 3.141592
NO DUCKING WAY
Randomness can do something
Seth sweep!
