I'd like Emergency Exit to get a buff so that it's actually a tactical retreat. Perhaps rather than immediately switching Golisopod out, it switches out after its next attack, like U turn or Volt Switch, when it reaches less than half health.
@BluePhoenix_ I think the point was for it to escape before the next hit. So if to opponent is faster, you leave after the move this turn. If you are faster, you escape after using your move on the next turn.
I think there’s a benefit to having the same type of abilities with just different names. Wimp Out gives off a different impression than Emergency Exit
If we are going to those lengths for flavour, wouldn't it be more fun to add something unique to them? Wimp out could raise the incoming pokemons attack while exit could raise their defense or something

Fun fact: Burn doesn't actually cut your attack by half. It cuts your physical damage by half. This basically means that stuff like body press and foul play get reduced damage despite not using your attack stat.
It's a little bit cleaner to say it cuts your attack stat in half though, because with something like Body Press, everything that modifies your attack stat also modifies the move's damage. The one exception is stat stages, so Iron Defense will boost the damage but not Swords Dance. Huge Power, Choice Band, and burn all affect your attack stat, and they'll all affect how much damage Body Press will deal. In my opinion, a more helpful way to think of it is the game plugs all the relevant info into the damage formula, then replaces your raw attack stat and stage modifiers with your defense at the last minute, if that makes any sense
@@MEPlaysGames Pokémon Showdown nerd here, no. Body Press does all its calculations using the defense stat, from beginning to end, meaning that the choice band and huge power have no effect on it because they boost the attack stat. This also means Fur Coat doubles Body Press’s damage. Burn still decreases the damage of Body Press because it halves the base _power_ of all physical moves, not the stat itself. Same with Foul Play, the user’s stats aren’t a consideration, but the base power is always a factor, so burn still weakens the attack. No clue how it works on Photon Geyser and Shell Side Arm though

Shell Armor is used by Hisuian Goodra. It uses Shelter to increase its Defence and boost damage of Body Press. With its naturally high Special Defence, it is hard to KO. However, with its low speed and high defences it will take a lot of hits and eventually be one will be a critical hit. Shell Armor makes this impossible. Emergency Exit is supposed to work with First Impression, 90 BP +2 Priority move, but can only be used at the Pokemon's first turn like fake out. It's supposed to use First Impression, take a hit, trigger Emergency Exit and use it again after.
Y'all really forget that Medicham gets Skill Swap... It may not be the best user of Pure Power, but it is the best enabler for allowing another mon to hit for insane damage. You thought an Ursaluna with Guts and Flame Orb was scary. Try Skill Swap to give Ursaluna Pure Power and give it a Life Orb.
Vital Spirit is actually *slightly* different from Insomnia. Vital Spirit has an outside of battle effect where it increases the chance of finding higher level Pokémon, while Insomnia does not

What it DOES have, is armor in the form of the skull bone protecting its head. (also some of the redundant abilities started out as mistranslations/originate from the tcg & made their way into the game, like battle armor)

One minor note that this video got wrong was when they talked about status Paralysis lowers speed but burn doesn’t actually lower attack but instead halves the base power of physical moves. This sounds inconsequential at first since they have the same effect, but it does actually influence moves like opposing Foul Play
I mentioned this in another reply, but everything that affects the attack stat also affects Foul Play and Body Press, aside from stat stages. The game is effectively applying all of your attack stat modifiers, then at the last minute swapping it out with the target's attack stat or your own defense stat. It's just a little cleaner to say that burn, Choice Band, Huge Power, and whatever else affect your attack stat, as opposed to your physical damage output.
