I had the exact same pair of scissors for my sewing. My husband used to use them to cut anything. I would hit the roof, cos once used to cut anything other than fabric they wont cut fabric cleanly again. I ended up buying myself a new pair n told him n my kids they could use the old pair to cut whatever they want. Lol. Good job. 👍👍👍🇦🇺🇦🇺🦘🦘
I love the fact that you made it 100% functional again, but you still left a bit of the pitting and the battle scars of years past. These scissors are 80 years old. Each of its scars tells a story. The new owner will love that you preserved the visible marks of time.
I really enjoy watching your videos. You make it look like it's so relaxing doing this. You also get the benefit of taking something that was useless and repurposing it like it was new again. EXCELLENT!!! Upholsterer on this end. Looks somewhat like a 10" pair of Clauss(or a close copy) shear to me. I'd say a Clauss model 330(or close). That bolt is different than a Clauss bolt as is the nut. The thumb shank & ring look more like a WISS brand model of shear though. I just checked EBAY & am on a site that has a pair of... " Clauss No. 332 12" Heavy Duty Shears Scissors Made In USA Moly Chrome",. He/she is asking $33.99 + $13.25 shipping. The advertised shear still looks great but not near as great as that pair of shears you just refurbished! Like you even replated the shears which I have never heard being done by anyone before! Both Clauss & Wiss shears hold their value. Those old Clauss shears had so much molybdenum added to the formula that their practically as hard as the super alloys of today. The chromium(memory) content in the Clauss shears appears to be maxxed out too as they NEVER LOSE THEIR SHAPE. I didn't mean to talk your head off but I am REALLY impressed with your attention to detail. If you plan on using the shears or $elling them online I can tell you how to set/clearance them to factory specs(even if they are not Clauss brand shears) if interested. Again GREAT job on refurbishing those shears!

I was going to say that they looked like fabric scissors to me. My mother's old pair of fabric shears is almost the exact same as these (albeit hers are a bit smaller)
I wondered what's so special about fixing scissors. Just clean off the rust and I seem to have forgotten that this is a TH-cam restoration channel. All of you restorers are crazy. It's a good crazy, but still crazy.
Very similar to my dad's Wiss Model 20. He was an upholsterer by trade. I cringed when you put the blades on the belt sander. Glad you got them sharp in the end.
Always nice to watch these when a sand blaster isnt involved. Im not willing to invest that much, but this could pay for a drill press easily with the old tools I have laying around that need restored.
These are some well used fabric scisors. I have a new pair just like these (Seriously, some time in the past there has to have beed a billion forging dies made of this exact model for them to be still produced all around the world) and can tell by comparing them how much the blades have been ground down by sharpening over time.
@@misterpatina thanks brother.. you should look up keen kutter. The logo is a triangle on early ones that's probably the ones I'll do next. They are small 5 inches ide guess square ended.
The blades were originally hollow ground and I'm guessing here, the original scissors had probably never been sharpened in their lives. If you had cleaned them and not touched the blades with paper or belt, they would be five times sharper than they are now.
They remind me of my grandmother's too! When this crisis is over, I'll travel to her old house, and see if they are still there. The last time I had seen them, they looked like they could enjoy a bit of a restoration alright.
Good job. Came across your video as I was in the process of doing a restore of an antique set of scissors very similar to yours. Only problem I have is I can't seem to get the nut off the bolt! Jammed on real tight. Might have to try the heating treatment (carefully!) on the nut. The blades are forged with a hardened steel inner surface and an iron outer. You can see the transition line from one metal to the other. They are still sharp even after all these decades. They don't make them like they used to. BTW, try cutting cloth to see how well they cut, these were tailors or dress makers scissors originally.

@@misterpatina thanks for the tips. I've already soaked it in Evaporust for 2 days and nut still jammed on. Finally got it turning and removed the nut at last. Took a bit of brute force. Finally got it all sanded down and ready for polishing now. Just have to watch where I polish now since I don't want to polish off the Brand marks and other stamp marks.
I wish you good luck! Will we see the Restoration on TH-cam? 🙂 BTW, as you could see in my video, I had to open the nut with a „grip pliers“ (don’t know the English word, hope you know what I mean) and had to fix the bolt in a vice. Was tight as hell :/
@@misterpatina I didn't think of making a video of my restore...maybe I should have. I removed the nut using 2 ratchet spanners and a lot of force. Your scissors look European in style/manufacture. Mine are Wiss brand American scissors made in Newark, New Jersey according to the stamp marks on them. There is a 31 stamped onto the 2 halves as well but I don't know what it means. Could it be the year 1931 or a part number? Who knows...

So nun habe ich mir die Zeit genommen ein gesamtes Video anzuschauen und bin begeistert mit wie viel Muse und sogar Witz es zusammengesetzt worden ist. Dazu fällte mir ein, das ich in meiner Garage, wo ich heute meinen Korpus weiter gebaut habe. Eine ziemlich Alte Werkzeugkasten 🧰 steht, diese habe ich mal geerbt bekommen. Ja eigentlich Schade, aber so ist halt das Leben. Darin sind viele alte Werkzeuge drinnen. 🤩Bei Interesse bringe ich diese gerne mit, vlt. gibt etwas welches Du mit Deiner besonderen “Art 🖼 “ in Szene setzen möchtest. 😉

Thanks man! I did this because I wanted to have the sharpened area bare. I think when you resharpen a knife or scissors, these areas bare as well. But first sharpen and nickel plate later wouldve worked out as well i guess :-)

These scissors were originally a "Black Japanned" finish.

My mother was a tailor and she had exactly the same scissor when i was small. Handle was originaly painted black and blades were without color.

You don't cut paper with fabric scissors. Nice restoration though but get some cloth for testing.
Would to see what the weight difference is from before to after. All of your items look better now then when the were new.
May I ask, why did you sharpen after the nickel plating? Wouldn't that erase the plating? Great video btw!
