Horrible umpire! Coach was right. He should’ve asked for help from the other umpire on a contested play. Tired of these know it all umpires who think they shouldn’t be questioned.

While I certainly don't condone the somewhat combative approaches by the coaches, this was an example of poor umpiring. The second pitch, the one disputed, didn't come close to touching the bat. It hit the batter in the foot or the ankle, while the bat remained on her shoulder. Then, after the batter was recalled because the call was foul ball, the base umpire still allowed the runner who had been on first base to remain on second base, having gone there thinking she was forced by the hit batter. The plate umpire also demonstrated poor mechanics in making his calls and could use some help in his communication skills.
As an umpire, without speaking to a fellow umpires call - you don't engage with coaches like that after an ejection. When you eject, it over. Also, why I am glad they called each other to coordinate their shirts, they should have coordinated that a partner, never let's his umpire eject alone. Base ump should have come in and helped with escorting others from the field.
If the coach disagreed, he should politely ask the plate umpire to check with the field umpire to see if they saw somehing definitive. By coming out and yelling at the ump and telling him that hes incompetent will get you thrown out by every single umpire I know. The assistant then needed to just shut up as the girls needed someone in a position of power to show composure and not let the game go off the rails. Embarrassing actions by that coaching staff...but sure, this video is called 'bad call' instead of 'immature coach ejected for verbally attacking umpire after borderline call'.
@@jeffd6 no it’s called being a good coach. Instead of being confrontive from the get go. You can ask. Hey blue (or use their name)? What was your call. I missed it. I umpire and that ump is to sensitive they were two questionable calls that he could have simple told the coach to call a time out and we can talk at that level. I don’t have to explain a judgement call but if you want to build a good relationship with the teams at that field it is best to be somewhat accommodating.
"I ump and blah blah blah." You know nothing of what and how things transpired up to this point of the game. @@gc2o4tom81 If a coach has a question about the technicality of a call and respectfully asks for a clarification after the play I will gladly give him/her the explanation. For instance, I had a coach who was fairly new to coaching not understand the infield fly rule very well. The bases Ump signaled 'infield fly' by touching his cap, thus I immediately called 'batter is out' and he didn't understand why. Once the play ended he called out from the dugout could he ask me what call we had just made. I went over it with him, he thanked me, and went back to his dugout. That is how it is done. On any 'judgement' call (balls/strikes, foul/fair, safe/out, catch/no catch, etc.) the coach's 'opinion' is irrelevant and trying to bark at the umpires is simply disruptive and counter to the idea of youth athletics and good sportsmanship. Players on the other hand... do NOT talk to an Umpire unless it is a respectful question about a rule you don't understand. NEVER argue a call as a player. It will never help you, and while most officials have thick skins and just ignore it... it can only hurt your case.
We had a situation where my teammate got hit in the foot. The catcher obstructed the Home plate umpires view and he called it a ball. And the field umpire was in the field watching the neighbor fields game. So it stayed a ball and he ended up striking out. He did react at all to getting hit but later had to be benched for a swollen ankle and his mom was like “he needs to go to the hospital he might have a broken ankle.” He didn’t but kinda funny situation
The umpire is poorly trained. No foul ball call. If it hit the bat on the second pitch as he said then the ball would be in play because it went into fair territory....
Ump sucks. The dump should’ve immediately called a foul ball if they’re letting the girl run down the first take control of the game And get control of yourself
I spent a number of years as a ref in Basketball in Southern OH and I couldn’t hear what was said BUT from what I saw the Referee had a chip on his shoulder unless the coach used foul language the ref needs to “chill” or quit being a ref and go into the stands to yell and comment about other refs as they call the game!

First pitch definitely hit the bat. Foul ball. Second pitch was close. No way to tell from this video if it hit the batter or not. Umpire made his call. Best to just go with it and move on. Umpire did a great job of dealing with two coaches that should have been tossed.

@@ccLA08 that’s your opinion. And it’s a judgement call. If he doesn’t see HBP he can’t call it. And I can’t tell you. I don’t see any clear evidence of a HBP plus the second pitch. The girl didn’t act like she got hit.
Okay, the first one you can here it hit the bat, if she was hit she'd be arching her back like SH** that hurt. Try it if you don't believe me, have a pitcher hit you on the left shoulder blade. Second pitch at 0.12 you can see the ball droping to the ground catcher moves left to block the ball, ball bounces and maybe hits her in the leg. but it a delivered pitch that past the plate so to bad. should of had your runner steel second that puts her in scoreing position.
The first one hit the bat...foul ball. The second one was hard to tell however in the umpires judgment if it did hit her he should've called dead ball immediately and pointed to first.
Or mother's day, breast cancer awareness month....umpires going pink is not some violation of the uniform or professionalism. It's clearly an umpire shirt.
Weird, all these comments of people telling the official how to handle that are the same that say "theres no way id officiate! People yell too much" when asked to step up!
slowing it down, the batter steps back and the ball counces off of what looks like the catcher attempting to block. I don't see where it hit her foot here. I agree with blue, throw em out. There's no way they had a better look at it then he did.
Coach 1 was disrespectful and got his. Coach 2 should have known better than to say anything at this point. Dummy got his too. These "wanna be pro" coaches will start to get it the more often they get tossed from games.
Yes and no. I can understand the frustration. Kid gets hit in the back on the first pitch and ump rules it hit her bat (I assume, since she's still batting). Then on the second pitch it hits her in the foot and some guy in the stands (camera man?) says it hit her bat (wasn't even close)...at that point the umpire declares it a foul ball. So the coach asks the umpire what he's doing there if the game is being called by someone in the stands. I can't disagree with the question....just the form. Second coach - yeah, he needs to know he's on thin ice...however he simply said "you missed two", and then "ask your partner for help". However wrong the coaches were, this umpire is that awful combination of arrogant and disengaged, the most frustrating type of umpire to have running your game.I don't know if I would have avoided being ejected here, right wrong or indifferent. I definitely would have entered a formal complaint to the umpire's performance - not that it ever amounts to anything.
That first one definitely hit the back, heard the sound and the batter made no sign that the ball hit her, get hit in the back the batter normally says something or goes to the ground. The second one was a tough one, I could see that one going either way, but if the umpire didn't see hit her he cant give her the base..
I love this umpire. He did exactly what he should have done. 1st coach gets tossed, 2nd coach should have ran to the position and coached. Instead he chose to get involved and he gets tossed, "give me a warning". SHUT UP! Consequences for your actions. BYE! Outta here!

This guy sucks. How can he miss it hitting her in the helmet? No way it hit the bat in the second scenario. On top of that, a very weak ejection. Should have gone to his partner for help. I am commenting as a 26 year veteran softball umpire and 25 year basketball referee.
I have no issue with the decision to eject the coaches, they argued a call (does not matter if correct or not, arguing judgement calls is grounds for ejection). However his method of handling the ejections was totally unprofessional, the ejecting umpire's involvement with the ejection ends at the time of the ejection, the base umpire then comes in to help guide the ejected participant away from the game. In the case that there is only one umpire, some talk after the ejection tends to happen, but you should not be waving the person off, this can be seen as aggressive and is not proper mechanics. Properly done, there would be a sharp mechanic to signal the ejection, along with the verbal call and then the umpire turns away or otherwise attempts to avoid further confrontation.
they weren't arguing balls and strikes they were arguing a foul or hit batsman. and his utter lack of making a call. he just stood there waving his mask in a circle. And that was a really quick toss for asking why are you even here
2A Forever By asking "why are you even here?" He questioned the integrity of an umpire, I would have tossed him too, does not matter what the call her was arguing was. Like I said, the umpire handled this incredibly poorly, but the decision to eject I find no problem with. If the coach said it softer in private that would be different, but he was loud and confrontational.
Couldn't tell for sure if the pitch hit the batters foot, but to me It didn't and went off the catchers foot which I've seen many times. Both coaches rightfully so were ejected, but the way he handled the first one was totally unprofessional. Granted he deserved the ejection but not to be showed up the way he was. That umpire should never have said roll, roll, and started counting backwards like that. The other coach no issues with that one...he literally asked for it.
He tried to walk away and the coach walked toward him and got in his face. Which is why the hand waving and point and counting started. Everyone thinks this is the MLB where an ejected person gets “their money’s worth” in youth it’s a great way to bump your 1 game suspension up to multiple games
You attitude tells me that you're probably another one of those leather-lunged coaches who think everybody comes to watch you manage. Sorry. As an umpire, I tended to let coaches' bitching and moaning roll off my back, so long as they didn't get personal. Once they did, they were gone.
Umpire was definitely not very professional throughout that whole clip..... whether the call was bad or not is immaterial - he didn't handle things well at all......
Even though the umpire was justified in ejecting both coaches this never should've happened. It appeared the ball went off the catcher, but when the coach questioned it he said nothing. He should've explained what he saw right then and there, but instead made it a mystery. If she was hit yell dead ball and point to first, and if not verbalize a ball then the count.

Both coaches earned their ejections. However, I didn't see the ump make any calls. Was the first pitch a foul ball? If the second pitch hit the bat, where was the call?
I don't think that umpires or refs should get involved with society's social commentary, by wearing pink shirts during the so-called breast cancer month. I don't nor will I wear pink. These people who do wear pink, I would wager haven't donated one dime for cancer research.
It is up to the umpire governing body(ies) as to what they may, may not wear with regard to uniform tops. However, both umps are to wear the same color uniform~
The ump was wrong but there is no context to go with this. Calling him out in the manner the coach did was wrong as well. So in the end no one wins and nothing was changed.
The first pitch hit the bat. But the bat was not Swan. So it does not constitute a foul ball. The second Pitch hit the batters leg can change the trajectory of the ball which is why the catcher didn't catch it okay. It was a bad call. And I don't know who's sitting there saying that the ball hit the bat on the second Pitch. It clearly hit the batter. The batter even reacted to being struck on the leg.
Any one involved in softball or baseball knows you get umpires sometimes that are just there for the money . They could care less about the game. He wanted the game over so he could get his 50.00. He even asked do you want me to forfeit the game. As a coach you just got to know how to deal with different types of umpires .
While I agree with you that some umpires are just out there for the money, these coaches were out of line and did eject themselves from their poor behavior. No issues with this umpire at all. When you have a coach like these 2 you sometimes have to take control and put them in their place.

I would disagree. If the head coach just got tossed, there is no tolerance for an assistant continuing the same behavior. That was a dumb move on the assistant's part, on several levels.
An assistant coach is there to help remove an unruly coach not to dogpile on the official. Once the head coach/manager is ejected the next acting coach can argue calls. It’s never the right move to argue a call or multiple calls that one of your fellow coaches just got ejected for.
Your weak as fuck……. The coach can argue a call that is flagrantly a bad call. Without this soft ass umpire ejecting 2 coach’s cause he made a bad call….
Those coaches could have easily stayed in the game if they took a more polite and civil way about asking about the calls. As an umpire, without speaking to a fellow umpires call - you don't engage with coaches like that after an ejection. When you eject, it over. Also, why I am glad they called each other to coordinate their shirts, they should have coordinated that a partner, never let's his umpire eject alone. Base ump should have come in and helped with escorting others from the field.
ask yor field ump for help.
Coach said towards the end that they have to warn them ummmmmmmmmm no they do not. That's a courtesy thing

Then you can voice your disagreement and ask him to ask for help.
But coming out onto the field and being a dick is never going to help you or your team.
My guess is that it wasn't his first bad call of the game. That is perhaps why the coach called him incompetent.

How many coaches do they have? One goes in one comes out, one goes in one comes out
I umpire and that ump is to sensitive they were two questionable calls that he could have simple told the coach to call a time out and we can talk at that level. I don’t have to explain a judgement call but if you want to build a good relationship with the teams at that field it is best to be somewhat accommodating.
"I ump and blah blah blah." You know nothing of what and how things transpired up to this point of the game. Most likely the assholic behavior displayed by the coach didn't start with just those two "questionable" calls. Any 'real ump' knows this. Any 'real ump' doesn't bag on his brothers. Ump 101.
Don't want to build a relationship. Just umpire the damn game
@@stephenglover4667 disagree to a certain extent. I’m not going to go grab a beer after the game it’s the coaches. But I learn their names and joke around with them when possible. When the coach gets ejected from a minor league softball game
I love how the plate guy handled this,,,, no B.S. from dick coaches
I was told when umpiring softball to never talk back to coaches to avoid worsening the situation. In his case, he did a good job threatening to end the game if the coach didn't leave, but minor softball is not the MLB. Talking back loudly to coaches is not a good way to calm an angry coach.

I'm shocked to discover people are siding with this arrogant umpire.
First pitch hit bat, second pitch cant tell, but seeming how shes unfazed by the ball, I think it hit the bat
2nd pitch was near her foot, how can it hit the bat?
The umpire is poorly trained. No foul ball call. If it hit the bat on the second pitch as he said then the ball would be in play because it went into fair territory....

Second pitch at 0.12 you can see the ball droping to the ground catcher moves left to block the ball, ball bounces and maybe hits her in the leg. but it a delivered pitch that past the plate so to bad. should of had your runner steel second that puts her in scoreing position.

That's the most talking that ump did probably the entire game. People with a little bit of authority That's never had any, and this is what happens.
You attitude tells me that you're probably another one of those leather-lunged coaches who think everybody comes to watch you manage. Sorry. As an umpire, I tended to let coaches' bitching and moaning roll off my back, so long as they didn't get personal. Once they did, they were gone.
Rookie?
Umpire was definitely not very professional throughout that whole clip..... whether the call was bad or not is immaterial - he didn't handle things well at all......
I love this umpire!

The second Pitch hit the batters leg can change the trajectory of the ball which is why the catcher didn't catch it okay. It was a bad call. Those coaches could have easily stayed in the game if they took a more polite and civil way about asking about the calls.
