Fluorescent paints need to go over a white basecoat to have the effect you were looking for. As for bases, I would say that 90% of the time I decorate them after gluing the miniature in place. The remaining 10% of the time I either make it in advance or decorate the base as the miniature is being built because the legs or some other part of the miniature interacts directly with the base.
I don't remember struggling with yellow fluo from vallejo this much, here I tried flui violet over white first, but I think I diluted it too much. You're the second painter to tell me the same thing, so I'll try again. Thanks! Also, "the miniature interacts directly with the base" is exactly what I'm looking for when doing bases, but sometimes it's hard: Necron silent king, I want to glue the throne on the base because of the lightning touching the ground, but then what's under the throne becomes quite hard to reach. We'll see!
Thanks! I didn't show it here but I tried the fluo violet with the airbrush over white on the shrooms and it didn't work either. Maybe I diluted it too much. I'll have to try again..
Good job dude carry one!!! I don' know if I'm doing something wrong but when I use agrax earth s shade suddenly all the base is glossy and not matt like yours . Any idas ?
@@mirkodatti1076 Thanks! While using agrax earthshade, i shake it a lot with a stainless steel ball and a mixer. I also use a very wet brush, almost 40% water 60% agrax. Also, if you don’t drain the agrax from the deep or large holes, it tends to dry glossy. That’s why I mix it with water and spread it well. Hope this helps!
Was Santa soft and kind with you? What projects are you starting this end of the year? Enjoy this one!

Great tutorial!
Thanks and good luck if you're trying something similar!
Really cool base! the fluorpaints work best over white or bright colors to make them even more bright and glowy.
