Ya know. Ive been a 1st, 2nd and now 3rd support tech in ms desktop and server operating systems for 19 years. I know it inside and out. And its a mess now. The telemetry, the control pannel changes, the inability to control what you want outside the box without messing with the registry or installing 3rd party tool's, ms taking stuff away then adding something else without your permission, the ads and now ai crap ... just to name a few. It used to be you paid for your software and it was yours, your computer, your os. It doesnt feel like that anymore. Its slowly moving little by little to a saas model. So i had enough. 16 months and counting i switched to linux for my home desktops and servers. I still use ms in work but thats it. And i am never going back. I bought a rog ally 3 days ago. Within 1 hour of it being out of the box it had bazzite on. I didnt even boot it in to windows. Ms has broken the pc industry with its greed and monopolistic stance. So fk em.

@CyberDopamine never used it mate. I used something with Windows 10. Can't remember what it was though. I needed to kill the auto update and telemetry and basically create a dumb windows 10 os that ran blue iris for my cctv cams.
i also work in the IT sphere (government customer support tech) and a lot of people in the team are going to give linux a try for gaming once w10 is EOL. we work in a professional environment and the level 3 team is prepping the windows 11 upgrade that's scheduled for early 2025 and they flat out said that W11 is going to generate a lot of tickets because of microsoft's poor decisions that they can't revert. Nobody in the team seems to like windows 11. That's saying something.
I also purchased an Ally recently and i'm going to try bazzite. i tried steamfork but it had some issues on it, had to reflash the Ally with the asus cloud utility, update all firmware related things then i'm going to flash bazzite later tonight. Hopefully the experience is going to be good
So sorry to ask can the Asus Rog Ally X , can play PS5 Games without owning a Sony PS 5 game console in the first place ? And as you mention can I play steam games direct on Asus Rog Ally X without Bazzite ? How about X Box Games as well , because I am branded new to hand held game console so so sorry to disturb you as I am decided which to get as the Hand held game console are not cheap especially Asus Rog Ally X without, Legion Go or MSI 8AI+ Claw ! Finally someone touches on the EXTREMELY KEY FEATURE of sleep mode on a game! That was literally what made me get a Steam Deck, because using a switch that changed substantially how I play games and get on the habit of finishing them. Having that on a machine like the Ally is KEY for me
It’s so clutch having sleep/wake functionality. And with all the quality of life improvement made on the Ally X, it’s almost the perfect handheld device.

Happy to report that sleep works okay most of the time on my Ally. I say most of the time because I think it didn't work with Mafia: Remastered Edition, but everything else works including RDR2 and Hogwarts Legacy, which I'm playing now.

Installing Bazzite was well worth the time it took. The sleep/wake function alone is worth the install. I shut down my Ally X last night at 1030pm and just picked up at 7am. The battery only drained 1%, and the game was exactly where I left it. On windows would’ve had to reboot the entire OS, open up Steam, wait for the game to load up again. Also an older video of you installing Bazzite on the legion go and OH Ally helped me reflash Bazzite back to Ally X. I did something to screw up my install and could renal Bazzite because it would fail due to having a Bazzite EFI already.
Just want to ask if I would like to re install the windows in my rog how is gonna be? Is it same the process in the bios? Recovery cloud?

My only concern is that further down the line he will have a ton of subscribers and will then start acting like all of the other youtubers with their over exaggerated personalities and this over the top hyped up content. Cyber is at the moment thorough but to the point, which is what I like the most, hopefully that doesn't change.
CD, ur vids are awesome, chill, and relaxing to watch I can’t think of any improvements u can make ur vibe is just awesome especially with the way you take ur time to speak and express your thoughts. Many content creators have scripts and all and regardless if you’ve got notes to read off of or not you make it sound real, other creators kinda lack the human aspect because of purely reading off a script with a different tone of voice. If anybody wants to stick to windows (for things like gamepass), you can use a launcher like Playnite to give you the console experience. You can also use something like Handheld Hardware Tools which gives you a bunch of gamepad shortcuts, like opening Steam Big Picture mode, opening a menu to control TDP, etc. The only downside still would be Windows hibernate being bad for games.
I love Playnite! So many options for customizing as well.

The suspend feature is probably the most important feature, TBH. Especially for 90m+ playtime
I used it all the time when I closed my 2DSXL and on my NS. Pretty much constantly
Especially in my games that last me 6h-10h on average, having that suspend feature on my Steam Deck OLED has been the most prominent and crucial part of my experience. I'm not playing on my Deck for like 8h straight. I'm always turning it off when I take a shit or need to eat. And just turning the system off mid game and putting it on the charger is so nice
Suspend feature should honestly be tippy top priority for handheld experience, 2nd only to Power Efficiency and Battery. If a handheld can't do this, there's honestly no value in it as a portable/convenient gaming device

If you have an Ally X, or other windows handle held install Bazzite. It’s worth the time and hassle it takes to install. Over all time from downloading the image, flashing a usb drive, and installing on your device takes about 1 and a half hours.
Seen a few videos about transferring to Bazzite but it took YOURS for me to finally consider it

Yes do it immediately. I installed a 4TB SSD in mines and dedicated 2.5 tb to Bazzite and the other 1tb to windows. Mainly for games that either don’t run on Linux or are too much trouble to get to work.

Launched and I’ve absolutely loved it expanded my gaming had so much fun emulation and expanded my 64gb to a tb ssd. Now I finally want to update to something stronger and longer batter life and I’ve being waiting and going back and forth on whether to just upgrade to and oled or an ally x til the update for steam os coming to other pc handhelds on its own

I like the idea of bazzite , also like the Ui from steam much simpler. Liked enough to install bazzite on my ally x I was let down once it came to it not as snappy. Games wouldn’t work out of the box. Yes windows isn’t the greatest but I don’t have to tinker with protons and experiment with all that just to play a game, with windows I just launch game and it works. And now after reinstalling windows my ally is a bit buggy so idk. I keep seeing all these videos of how great bazzite is unfortunately that wasn’t my experience
Yep, I think most people gloss over this when comparing SteamOS with Windows. They compare SteamOS at its best with Windows at its worst. For me, I have a Steam Deck OLED, and if I need to play a game that’s not verified, it tends to be more work on average to get it working.

Great video. My Legion Go is in for repairs at the moment, but when I get it back I will try CachyOS handheld. Looks like a nice Bazzite alternative as well.

CachyOS Handheld is what I use on my Steam Deck and I got around 20% boost just from swapping the system that looks and works exactly the same as SteamOS

Ally guys have been gaslighting me into thinking Windows suspend/resume works just as well as on Steam OS. You confirming that no, it doesn't by a long shot, is very reassuring. I wish every handheld review didn't just completely ignore syspend/resume experience when reviewing Windows handhelds.
He gaslight you on that? The sleep/wake function on the Ally running windows abysmal once you press the power button it’s takes up to 39 seconds to get back into windows, and the game may or may not suspend correctly. But you just never know. Since windows isn’t design to be a console that was never a feature considered. Bottom line like he said Microsoft needs to step their game up. Or this will be yet another market they lose horribly in because they refuse to get with the times. With majority of handhelds running their OS, they need to create a light weight OS focused on gaming first.

also my PC also runs linux. soo no loss for me.
If you connect your Lego make sure to put fan speed on full blast because it will overheat, once you disconnect it and it charges you can go back to normal fan speed, that usually solves my overheating issue.
I'll never understand people who defend Windows on these devices. The lack of proper instant sleep and resume is already a killer for me. The fact that you have to clumsily hibernate your device, and sometimes it just switches back on, is just mind-boggling; it's like people never used a proper portable gaming device like a PSP, where instant sleep and resume was just normal. Or a Switch, for that matter.
Would love to see how you demonstrate the ally x full potential , e.g monitor / portable projector. On the go 2player experience , multitasking a game and watching sport in a seperate browser. Most importantly how a heavy keyboard controlled game like squad is possible on a handheld.

Sure, I like facts and well-crafted sentences as much as the next guy, but you have a way of communicating that really stands out and is fully authentic - something that many other channels lack, unfortunately. You've got Real Personality, is what I'm trying to say, and that makes your videos a delight to watch! It reminds me of the early days of TH-cam, when people just uploaded videos made with heart instead of them all conforming to whatever is trendy. The era where TH-camrs like Chris Stuckmann or MKBHD just put the camera on and Made something, without all these flashy edits or perfectly scripted things to say. When they still were raw and real.
(Not to badmouth other creators with millions of subscribers, they probably work very hard to make their videos - it's just that bigger channels often feel very soulless nowadays!)
Keep doing you, it's really a breath of fresh air watching and hearing you talk about (tech) stuff in this passionate way of yours. Truly no other does it like you!

I think windows is perfectly fine and preferable for people who want to easily mod their games. It's also possible to set steam to automatically boot into big picture mode when it starts up. To each their own tho
Yeah its great on legion, very easy to use if you use it like a tablet with your fingers, boots into windows in 20 seconds and with lossless scaling can play every game at 144fps (this especially made bazzite pointless for me as i dont think you can use it)

Windows allows you to use Lossless Scaling for frame generation which I use all the time on my Rog Ally Extreme. I love Steam OS it is just frame generation makes so much difference on a handheld….

I installed Bazzite onto my ALLY X, everything is working great except the HHD plugin to change TDP isn’t showing in the deckyloader in quick settings. It is only able to be used with the back buttons to enable, was wondering if that’s how it is supposed to be or I can get it into quick settings, great job on these videos absolutely love your content keep it up!!

Bazzite might have been worth it before lossless scaling got as good as it is, but I'm playing everything at 144fps now on legion go.
Also it does not take 5 minutes lol Legion is in windows within 20 seconds, and i had dark souls 3 loaded and lossless scaled by 1 minute 20 mark. Also let's not forget legion is basically a tablet as well, i use it for checking things quick on the web, TH-cam etc using 3 finger gestures and so on its very easy to use when you start using it like that, and of course can play any game which Bazzite or sd can't do

Why wouldn’t you have the game running and put Legion Go to hibernation?
I have been using for 6 months, I use hibernation all the time, absolutely 0 problem.
The only downside is those 13 seconds it takes to turn on.
No battery draw, no bugs, works really well.
For the best experience without installing bazzite, I just enable steam startup in big picture mode.
On my OG Ally I even disabled the log in. Straight into it. No fingerprint. But I also use my Ally X as a laptop sometimes. So I'm leaving windows for now lol.
Bazzite is cool, but it's underbaked. As convenient as it can be. I still feel like we're better off with Windows for now. That should change once steam OS comes
Explain how it’s underbaked? Everything I can do on both my steam deck, and I can do on Bazzite.
Haven't had any issues on my end besides the slightly slow opening of the overlay menus. Good enough till the official SteamOS comes out for the Ally.
You absolutely can mod games on Bazzite. You just gotta do it manually
Last time I tried to play my Ally on a plane I couldn’t play anything because they all needed an internet connection to start. 😢 Otherwise, I love it!
you have to boot the game online first before you go offline on steam. and for xbox there is a setting

I’m not sure about bazzite, but RDR2 mods run great on steam deck oled with a little tweaking. Rampage and lml work with a little tweaking and slightly different than windows.

I always gound Bazzite to give about 3 frame drop compared to Windows but the frame pacing is much more even.

Correction: you CAN install mods when using a linux-based system. You just have to do it manually through desktop mode. :)
Hi. I have been watching your videos lately.. 800 is just way too expensive for me at this time for the Ally X (more like 900 to 1000 actually in my country). Will Steam Deck OLED suffice? I'm very concerned wirh the pixel density of the SD OLED though. It's much lower then even a Switch OLED.

Hey so, Cyber, I got an important update for you. The newest Windows update bricks Dual Boot. Secure boot fucks it up. So you wanna avoid updating any Windows Handheld with Bazite until that's fixed. Microsoft does have instructions on how to fix it, and I assume you already know but just in case you don't, now you do.

There is a decky plugin that makes it easy to run cheat trainers. And modding... well I never had a problem modding baldurs gate 3, minecraft, rimworld, factorio, isaac, risk of rain 2, stardew, etc... so I don't really know where the problem lies in comparison with windows
If only games like the new call of duty games worked on Linux. Want to buy my girlfriend a legion go but I think windows gaming might be overwhelming for her. Bazzite would be amazing for her but yeah we wanna play call of duty.
Get the legion dude its awesome, the software is much better now than it used to be, one click of a button and it boots into the legion software where you just select your game and your off, you won't regret it
Is the ally X worth the upgrade from the ally ? I've got the original ally and I'm gonna put bazzite on it but just wonder if I should wait for the ally 2 instead which will eventually come
I didn't own any handheld, but done some research because I want to buy SD OLED or ROG Ally X.
From what I read and watch most people said that if you have Ally no need to spend another $$$ for the X, you better buy good brand powerbank with that money and get roughly the same batteries with less money, you also can upgrade the storage and still get some $ left.
Unless you're the one who want to have and use the newest one, I think it's better to wait for the Ally 2. And I think ASUS seems to release a new handheld like very fast, like almost yearly.

As an owner of the original Ally I can say the Ally X is a noteworthy upgrade. But it comes down to what important to you. For me battery life, storage, ergonomics were most important. The Ally X has a battery that last 1.5x longer the OG Ally, easier and more storage options. You can install a 2280 SSD up 8tb, the OG Ally can only install 2230 SSD, which max out at 2TB and are very expensive. I mean you can do some jackets to fit normal sized SSDs in the Ally if want to, but I’m not comfortable doing that. And it come with two usb C ports. Also has faster ram, and more ram which is paramount for handheld systems since they share ram for the cpu and gpu. Overall I’m happy with it, but it comes down to your budget.
No get the legion go, much much better screen, detachable controllers (i use all the time), stand to stand it up, these are all things you won't live without once you have tried it. Lossless scaling made the better battery on the x pretty much obsolete as you can play in battery saving mode and still get great fps (on plane i played for 3 hours on the go and it used 30% battery). Only tangible advantage on the x is the ram but again doesn't matter now with lossless and on paper i can't see it making much of a difference anyway
The purpose of my handheld is to play in my recliner while my wife uses the TV I almost never play it on the go

I have a issue after install the bazzite os, everytime i play games in windows, if I hit the sleep button and wake up later, the ally will boot to bazzite instead of windows . and if i hit the volume down button after hit the wake up button, it will reboot into windows but the game will be shut down and erase everything in windows. Is there any solution for this issue?

@NoRestEffect is it really that bad? I'm debating going from the steam deck oled to the ally x. Only thing stopping me is if I'll have issues with bazzite and windows. An official steam OS would be perfect.
@ Installing Bazzite is a huge pain, you need to upgrade your internal storage - have a flash drive, keyboard.. but I was told that Valve is releasing steamos for handhelds, but who’s to say when that happens
@NoRestEffect ya i think I'll stay away from bazzite. How is the hibernate setting? Main reason I'd install bazzite is for the sleep feature that comes with it.

On legion go running bazzite running games of the sd card runs great with 0 stutters/freezes.

The Windows are issues are so over exaggerated lol I dual boot Windows 11 with SteamOS and I've had zero problems apart from the Sleep issue, drivers, installing, settings adjustment have been minimal and hardly a chore. I play fifa, cod mw3 on Windows 11.
just install windows global. all i care about it fps and windows usually works better. I also like the touch screen features. Im older than most here im sure but for gaming windows is still the best.

Why does BazziteOS not support mods? I don't know about GTA but at least on the steamdeck i can mod games without problem and also use steam workshop.
But again, I don't know how modding gta V works.

I dont know what I did wrong when I set up my dual boot on the ally x but for some reason my wifi card just refused to work with bazzite. It worked when I first booted it but after that I couldnt connect to wifi at all when on bazzite.
Please try out CachyOS handheld version please

When steam realeases oficial steam OS support im ditching windows, windows aint that bad but I can use my laptop if I really need windows for some reason, a handheld experience is much better with steamOS
I have a 2020 Razer Blade laptop and that thing is frustrating. Every time I turn it on there are a ton of updates that make it run like a slideshow. I should never have updated it to Windows 11 since it got even worse after that. It also cooks, sounds like a jet engine, and needs a big honkin power brick. Can something like this run on and be easily installed on a windows laptop? I know it's basically Linux, but I've never tried it to see if it's a better experience than the hunk of poo I'm dealing with now or if it's worth it. Then there's all the bloaty garbage Razor needs to optimize itself, set fan speeds, lighting, etc.
if there was lossless scaling and afmf2 i would switch but till then nah.I use both my handheld as my main pc with onexgpu on1440p monitor or in the bed
This is true, i feel so many people still don't know about lossless so they are doing all this work to get a few extra frames while we are sitting here on windows playing at 120fps+ on every game lol
Every game I play on my legion go works better in bazzite. Even at 1600p
This is the first review I've seen that mentions you're unable to mod games with Bazzite. Why is that and is there no way to get around it on Bazzite?
It has to do with Linux bro. Mods are built on windows and can’t convert with proton like games can

I've tried it it was amazing the first time had to remove it because the suspend wake function and Wi-Fi disconnection on suspension wasn't working properly is it working properly for you?
I’m not sure when you installed Bazzite previously, but with the current version, everything is working 100%.
