Thanks for the video. Plz do more reviews about the Ally X, especially emulation, settings, & apps. Thanks in advance! 🌷😊

For the SSD upgrade, I simply cloned the drive to a new one, that part was easy, however after the whole upgrade procedure, I noticed my Ally X didn't feel as solid anymore. I started hearing random clicks and squeaks when handling the device, and my right trigger now makes a spring squeak sound, like an old mattress (although I don't see how opening a device could cause this, and it might just be a factory defect that I didn't notice before). Anyway, it's possible that some clips got damaged, but I did inspect them all carefully and didn't see any cracks or anything like that. It still clipped back together tightly, just doesn't feel as factory solidly built as it did out of the box:(

That's a big brain move, would have saved some time to be sure. :) I do even have an m.2 usb enclosure, but I wanted to just do a clean recovery to demonstrate it in the video.
When I opened the Ally X up the second time, it was definitely easier, so I think the clips are pretty tight from the factory, seems like they do get a bit loosened if you open it yourself. I've heard some controller squeaks/stickiness can go away with some extra use. Otherwise, maybe some lubricant could help with the trigger? Or you could probably replace the whole part later down the line if it doesn't clear up?

@@DavidAddis So, I don't know if I should be saying this publicly, as it makes me feel like a bastard, lol, but it's still within its return period, so I will most likely just exchange it. And I swear, I feel terrible about it, but also, it is kind of on Asus, they didn't have to make the upgrade process so sketchy. I hate clips! There are plenty of examples of well-made electronics that are also easy to open and work on as needed. To your point about it being easier to open the second time, I've noticed it too, so it explains it. Honestly, I totally get the desire for a good amount of storage. If Asus made a 2TB version for $100 more, I'd shell out for it, no question. Higher capacity SSD was my day one upgrade too, but now, after a week, I installed everything I wanted on it, so I have about a dozen of my favorite games, and it's still under 800GB. I think I'll just stick with the OEM drive + a good, fast 512 GB microSD card. It should be plenty for me. I actually ran some games from a microSD to test, and they work fine, just a bit longer load times, and the card I tested with is older and on a slower side too.

It happened to me too, just open it up and put this on the springs and it will fix it.

@@av1155G thanks for the tip. Just to clarify, did it just develop the noise, or did it start after opening the device? I'm curious if it may be related.

@@BETEP-gw7qp yeah ofc, it happened before. It has nothing to do with opening the device, it’s the springs. I did end up returning mine though due to other issues, and the new unit started having the same springy trigger noise too after a while. I found the fix from a TH-cam video from the original ROG ally, and it’s the same noise.

Why load the recovery? You can also Download the win 11 iso and install this instead. Then install armour crate and drivers? This takes the halfe time?

Recovery is so much easier, installs all the necessary drivers and there's no chance of messing anything up. I made the mistake of doing a fresh install of Windows on the Aya Neo Geek 1S and I couldn't get the fingerprint reader to work cause there were no clear instructions on how to get the drivers working.
