    Went through your experience, using Progressive for the initial 6 months, then premium went up next 6 months, then went up again for next 6 months and I saw no end in sight. Then, Tesla insurance became available in Texas and I jumped on it ASAP. Much less expensive, however, the safety score messes with your sanity and reduces the Tesla driving experience. You have to determine what is more important.

    • @JustinDaniels
      @JustinDaniels ปีที่แล้ว +12

      So, if you're following at a reasonable distance, and someone in front of you slams on their brakes, your safety score will be impacted because you had to stop quickly? And if you had to make a turn aggressively because the person behind you wasn't slowing down and you needed to get out of the way quickly to avoid getting rear ended, your safety score will be impacted because you made a turn too quickly for the car's liking? Or what if you take your car to the drag strip and drive it like you never would on a road?

    • @ponsholm
      @ponsholm ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@JustinDaniels Excatly right! Not that one should but I hesitate using the brakes or hard turning to avoid because it will affect my rate. The forward collision system is also too sensitive as it pertains to how people actually drive being licensed for 30+ years.

      @@TheKwattK Precisely. So many people missing the point is that Tesla insurance is cheaper in most cases. I hate the legacy insurance industry. They give you a reasonable rate to get you to sign up, then jacking it up at least 10% every six months.

    If you call Tesla Insurance you can increase the coverage to try to get a fair comparison. And they will also ensure all vehicles including your roadster assuming you have at least one Tesla on the account already. That non-Tesla or roadster in your case would not have the real time safety score but would benefit from a group discount

    I have a model 3 lr that I bought a year ago, almost to the day in Texas. I had Safeco insurance (2 vehicles, 2 harleys and our home). They wanted $90/month. Tesla started with the 90 safety score at $75/month with exactly matching coverages. I typically run 97 on my safety score which has averaged $68.53 for the year. I was just informed that Tesla was changing from using an underwriter to having Tesla underwrite and that my new premium after the change would be $60.55 which was over $8 less. I drive less than you. The safety score process will incentivise you and yours to be better drivers. It's more about ego than money. The good part is they are very clear about what they don't like. They don't care at all about acceleration or speed. Tailgaters beware. Use autopilot, it can brake hard in situations that would earn you a ding. It also can corner faster without a ding.

    I've had a Model 3 for 3 years and my wife a Model Y for 2 years. We are long term State Farm policy holders. We pay $72 and $66 per month, respectively. I always hear people say how much Tesla's are to insure but that has not been our experience. In Fact, when we bought her Model Y we replaced a 2015 Mazda CX-5 with the same coverages, and the rate went down $10/mo when we bought the Model Y. We drive over 20,000 miles a year in each car.

    Just priced my Model Y with Tesla Insurance, for Arizona, it's: $174/mo. My Progressive Ins. is: $114/mo. Sucks, I was hoping Tesla would be cheaper.

      Speeding and accelerating make no difference. It’s forward collision warning, hard braking, aggressive turning, auto pilot disengagements and following too close that affect your score. Only those 5 categories. I have it in CO and I save over my previous insurance. I have MYP and my hard acceleration have zero effect on my score.

    I have Tesla insurance and am also covering my daughters non tesla. Tesla insurance is dirt cheap if you have teens and or a teen with an accident. I hate being tracked but I am literally saving 50% over AM FAM connect. I do not know how great or bad the claims process is esp with the non tesla

    GEICO is a pretty good carrier, and after 30+ yrs of my fam (dad 1st than me when started driving) using State Farm, they canceled us b/c we had 2 claims in same year. My mom was hit, and my dad was hit (totaled his car); moms got fixed; but they dropped us w/o telling us. B/c of that, as legally need to send out documents; they allowed to stay for another 12 months, but my dad shopped for insurance asap and found GEICO to be cheaper and better. Have home, auto for ins…fyi.
    After using State Farm for 30 years, and only 3 claims total; all which not our fault and we’re hit in parking lot, mom hit at stop light, and dad hit driving on road and car pulled out of strip mall and t-boned him; but doesn’t matter if your at fault or not; if they gotta pay, you won’t be playing w/ them much longer…..SOP for State Farm and others. Sad though since Fam paid out more over the years t(en they had to pay; which how it goes right

    This would be awful in Milwaukee. A stretch of road I regularly drive- even while going 10 mph over the speed limit (in front of a police station, mind you!), I get passed up like I’m standing still. It is not safe to go the “suggested” 30 mph. I would get run over! So, if I ever get a Tesla, I definitely will need make this a hard pass. But, it’s cool they do that. Hopefully, their claims service is better than their current parts replacement service….
