From the shocks, to the camera work, the diagnosing...you even repaired the tape stuck in the radio ffs. 99% of people would chunk that tape, ya know. I mean you Macgyvered the shit out of the caliper sensor! Thank you for all your hard work you put into your cars and your filming. It's truly one the most immersive restoration channels I can think of.
I always think about whether I'm watching a short film or a tutorial. The short film is about a love-hate relationship with the 528, the tutorial is a first-class repair guide. Great mix of both, with a few new camera angles. Turned out very well, thank you very much!

I saw a guy do that once, the spring shot out across the shop and destroyed the side of a late model Cadillac, luckily no one was hurt. But I've heard people died doing it like the first way you tried, luck was on your side big time. I almost had a heart attack watching when you undid the strut nut while weight of car was still on the spring. We always dumped the oil out of the strut body, it was only there because the original strut was not a cartridge, the strut body was the outer reservoir for the strut. Plus our strut compressor was wall mounted, so the whole thing had to be removed from the car no matter what. You could compress the spring put in place drop the strut cartridge in from the top, I've done them that way before. On the overhead control, I've soldered small guitar pedal wire from point to point to fix a screwed trace many times. Mouser electronics has the correct lamps for these too. Get some electronics rosin or flux core solder too, the solder you are using is acid core, bad for electronics. The euro bumpers really make these look better in my opinion. Glad to see you taking an intrest in one of the better cars out there.

Be aware: if traces on a board are burning out, it indicates that there is excessive current in the circuit. Make sure the values for the fuses are correct; anything higher than stated, bring them back to stock. If it continues blowing fuses, or if burnouts continue on the circuit, further investigation is needed. It could indicate a short, such as a wire rubbing through.
My dad have this same exact car but it’s an ‘88 with a 5-speed. He has it in Dominican Republic 🇩🇴. I love watching videos like these as it ignites my passion for cars even more. Keep up the good work, cheers 👌🙏🏿
I like the transmission range selector indicator repair the most. I bought a rather pricey conductive silver paint pen that comes in handy for (very, very carefully) touching up circuit board traces without using solder and heat.
Great videos! If I may, be sure when you have all that dust from rust and/or brakes you have the right eye protection and breathing protection. 3M has good info on the right types of masks/ventilators depending on what you’re dealing with (types of fumes/dust etc…)
Well, I would have to agree that Blondie would be the appropriate test cassette for this vintage of audio system. Although I might have gone with Also Sprach Zarathustra for the test of the new antenna.

When I was in high school my father brought this car back as a loaner while his 320i got fixed. It’s difficult to articulate how shockingly nice these 5 cars were. I drove it around thinking I was hot shit. (There weren’t a lot of bmws in Wyoming in the 80s… it was “exotic”). Unfortunate this is a prndl car.

why not replace the outside casing around the Shock Absorbers!? It feels like a crime to go though all the pain and put brand new shocks into rusted casing!! But amazingly patient work on the rest. Hope she appreciated the work u put into this car.
These things are usually a factor of cost/parts availability. And as bad as the housing looked, they weren't about to rust through or anything. Still plenty thick, or else I definitely would've replaced.
Whats the ride height now with the Bilstein B4 shocks? Ive used them previously on other BMW models and there ride heights was always much higher. My e28 is due for damper replacement and worried Id have the same issue
I wouldn’t think replacing the shocks alone and not the springs would affect the ride height that much. I didn’t really notice much of a change, but maybe if your old shocks are totally blown out it’s inevitable that it’ll change the height a little bit.
I had a salmon silver ‘88 528e five speed from new to 147,000 in 4 years. I used it for work a lot then. Replaced with black ‘92 525i which got stolen. Great the you can master this obsolete(repairable) technology.
Why did BMW solder those bulbs to the board and not provide proper push on sockets instead? They just want you to buy the whole board when a bulb goes out??

After all, BMWs - avoid. I've had a 318i, which was a joke when it would go, and a 323i convertible, which was a faster joke, with seriously dubious build-quality issues. Both had the oil leaks and electrical gremlins. I honestly don't see the attraction.

A No. 2 pencil is the preferred tool.

Yea, I should get out of the habit, but for most of this rusted stuff I work on, I'm not too concerned by it. On nicer vehicles I'm more careful.

Я их менял всегда. Пыльник однозначно под замену.
