It's amazing how it keeps going regardless of how neglected it is. Lack of regular servicing and maintenance, never gets washed. Just ridden hard and put away wet! Some people don't deserve to have a car.
Love your style Simon! BEST "slide" hammer ever invented and built in 15 minutes(taking notes here). I have worked on old Mercedes and one thing is certain: 1. Not designed for mechanics (any German car in fact). 2. Tie rod ends are always worn. 3. Damn they could build a turbodiesel engine. Petrol ones were okay. Keep the videos coming!
Back in the day, all MB cars come with double wishbone suspensions. Now, they come with McPherson struts! That is something I never thought I would see.
These series of Mercedes where very bad, I had one too and the springs needed to be replaced almost every year and the rust under the doors was terrible. I got from Mercedes coulance after 5 years and they replaced the 4 doors and trunk. Yet again a nice video of you every time you find something new to unscrew things.
Both!! But mostly negligence! That's why most regular people shouldn't own any of these German cars, because, they will complain about the expensive maintenance and let the poor cars suffer!! 😢 Only middle and wealthier people should own these cars, because they can actually afford them! Most Americans, sadly neglect their cars at a high rate!! 😔 sad!! If you can't afford the basic maintenance of your vehicle!! You should just take the bus 🚌 🤨
I always hated doing suspension repairs but this was still a very entertaining video. I'm especially impressed with your ability to do these repairs mainly with hand tools. Keep up the fine work young man! 😺😺 😺
Nice.....I had a C320 and a C240. These were made during the Daimler Chrysler days..... They rusted badly in Canada, but I never let mine get to the point this one was. I had to repair and repaint very panel except the roof. They were pretty reliable, but what most people that bought them after 4-5 years didn't realize is that its an MB with MB parts and service costs....so most 2 to 4 th owners had them serviced at Mr Lube and Walmart if they bothered changing the oil. You still see a lot of them in Europe. The weather is not as harsh, people generally do the maintenance and there are a lot of independent shops and after market parts to keep them going. Cheap transportation.
I hope your friend paid you good because you saved him a fortune. And you definitely need a bigger hammer😂 that's why the shop was giving him a run-around they didn't want to work on that rust bucket they know those cars are problems. And it was a death trap before you fixed it but now it needs an alignment
I’d actually like to know Simon’s opinion on the old Merc, I’ve owned 4 of them and they are not as expensive to maintain as people think for routine jobs and the build quality is excellent nuts and bolts actually undo instead of snapping off, so I am a Mercedes fan, I currently drive an E220 and love it.
I really admire your hard work and have learned quite a bit from your handiwork, but I can't see putting all that kind of effort into a car that is so rusted out and it's too bad that somebody left that car go all those years to get it into this horrible situation or condition
The only reason a shop does that, is if they don't want to work on it. too many lazy techs just want the easy money anymore. I'm like you, I'd jumped on it.
All good, but I'm sorry, this car needs more money pumped in it (just to get back to decent condition) than probably one in good shape costs. The bodywork alone, that door is a goner :)), It;s not like a pick-up, which goes fine with some rust and dents.
7:32 wrong. not this grease here 8:43 rember tighten only at normal wheel position 9:25 wrong it should not be assembly with force it must callibrate 17:40 heat first not at end 17:53 and not hammering push in but rotate how you do at end 18:49 steel brushing hole? 21:19 new pads without rotor? you could have sanded the brake disc with a stone 26:05 hood close with throw it if you pull you can bend hood
Horror 😱
When buying a: Mercedes, bmw, Audi or other European luxury auto. You are actually buying an open ended ticket to the dealer service center. German tanks suffered from constant repeated breakdowns from complicated manufacturing and build techniques during WW2, costing them lots on the battlefields. When it’s working, it’s great. But the key word “when” has not changed even from the 1940’s… I would NEVER buy one of these, unless I wanted a quick way to empty my wallet.
All newer cars are reliable, every machine is but key word is maintenance. If you don't do the maintenance but then say oh German cars are not good. That's why. Indeed they are premium cars and require a lot more maintenance, but that doesn't mean they aren't reliable.
Nonsens... Why do we not have these issues overhere in EU? Well, for one the cars are great but not nearly as neglected as in the US or Can. Secondly, service is actually pretty good and affordable unlike the many crooky dealers across the pond. Just look at the state of many cars in the US. Or watch an episode of just rolled in....
Your solution for the stuck CV axle was genius.
OMG RIGHT!?!!
It's amazing how it keeps going regardless of how neglected it is. Lack of regular servicing and maintenance, never gets washed. Just ridden hard and put away wet! Some people don't deserve to have a car.
You have patience...and ingenuity, very rare these days
The Autoparts city guy would like "That thing's going into the crusher" The minute he sees that rusted door.
That's part of the air conditioning system.

Simon Mercedesman with a clever arc welded solution, once again....
your content motivated me enough to start performing more complex jobs on my vanagon on my own after the last rip off at the workshop. thank you

ill never understand how people let their cars get to a state like this. it's either negligence or just not having enough money
Both!! But mostly negligence! @@ronaldgreen5292 RIGHT!!! What a SHAME!!!!!
Your ideas are always genius, great work!
I always hated doing suspension repairs but this was still a very entertaining video. I'm especially impressed with your ability to do these repairs mainly with hand tools. Keep up the fine work young man! 😺😺 😺
You've got skills mate, well done 👍

“Beater” is a significant understatement for this poor car.
I worked for Mercedes Benz they almost 300 an hour you took good advice don't let get you down
A chicken bone fell out from the CV axle!
That car had to have been on the streets of: Atlanta, Memphis or New Orleans at some point t in its life!
Mechanic’s eating on the job?
Love the content. You should have an endorsement deal with Tide detergent. Definitely dirty jobs.
I hope your friend paid you good because you saved him a fortune. I like the way you charge your watch from one wrist to the other, every video

13:28 für solche Jobs liebe ich das Stanley 0-55-114.
I love it. Such an inspiration to me)
very good mechanical skills
Thanks!
You're new winter beater I would drive till the wheels fall plus you have armor to protect you
The guide pin tool in the tool kit would help with the wheel install.
Hola , me sorprendió el estado de este Mercedes. Estaba muy mal!
No, C 36.The boss.
you forgot to put the bone back
Egads! How embarrassing.
I really admire your hard work and have learned quite a bit from your handiwork, but I can't see putting all that kind of effort into a car that is so rusted out and it's too bad that somebody left that car go all those years to get it into this horrible situation or condition
Unglaublich gut gemacht
Who says you can’t use a claw hammer. First question, who hammered on those wheel lugs?
That thing is now autobahn ready.
That is one rough Merc.....
I mean here in Georgia that thing would not have a speck of rust! And that looks like a late c model too like a 05?
Minnesota is part of the Rust Belt😂
The only reason a shop does that, is if they don't want to work on it. too many lazy techs just want the easy money anymore. I'm like you, I'd jumped on it.
15:16 I would’ve had to have captioned something like, “I won”
Great job love it 🤝
😱 Obviously the complete car is extremely neglected! 🙈
Schremp and Daimler Chrysler days😊

Hi, I've noticed that you don't clean the callipers throughly and don't like to paint them. I wonder why!
and MERCEDES AMERICA shudders...
Oooooh hell yes. I’m a closet old Benz fan
Just noticed the snap off bleed nipple 😂😂😂😂
C'est un bon mécanicien.
Brilliant job!! At 15:34 was that the engine mount you replaced?
Thanks! That was the mount, I just removed it to better access the axle.
What happened to the rusted door? I'll think you get your feets wet when it´s raining. 🙂
Good job! Where are the kitties?
I hadn't started putting them in the videos yet
The body goes faster then the mechanical problem ..
respect💪💪
Exceptional!

Disappointed, came for the cat section.
Рулевой рейке очевидно уже конец, под пыльник попадала влага, видно по огромному количеству ржавчины.
Is hard the fix the cars Deushland 🇩🇪 they are not is easy ,but if you have tools inspiration and you knows of the mechanic all is good.
Size bir tane lift gerekiyor alt takım kontrolü yapmak için.
Bro, you should buy Lamborghini , Ferrari, Porsche then fix and sell them. Make 50 times more money for the same labour.

Береги руки - работай в перчатках!
It's interesting that this car looks more bad as your other much older cars, must have seen no care in his 20 years of life😢
What is this a 4matic... well its premium version

Ok then, your wrong
We drove Leopard tanks here in Australia. In our harsh environment, they performed very well, reliable and smooth.
All newer cars are reliable, every machine is but key word is maintenance. If you don't do the maintenance but then say oh German cars are not good. That's why. Indeed they are premium cars and require a lot more maintenance, but that doesn't mean they aren't reliable.
W203 C- class Mercedes we’re far less reliable than their predecessor model , the W202.
