What’s the easiest way to turn a 2d blueprint into a 3d model? I love this tool and your tutorial, it’s just difficult for me to understand once you make it 3d, is there a way to make the outer walls transparent so you can look into the house and work on the interior? I want to make my house to scale but having a hard time working on the interior after making all the walls 3d.
If you look at my subsequent videos, I solved this problem in a different way. I made drawings corresponding to each one of the rooms of my house separate from the exterior model. This works really well for a couple of reasons. First, like you I want to see the interior in addition to the outside. Second, at least for me, as I add more detail to my drawings the bigger they become and SketchUp acts a little sluggish. Third, I don't want to put all my eggs in single basket. If I screw up or lose a drawing, I don't want to lose all my work. So it is really nice to keep each room in its own file and separate from the exterior. I think I also have a video where I pulled the individual rooms together as imports into a larger drawing.

Nice video and presentation but, I was just wondering why you uploaded in 720p instead of 1080p? After all, in 2018 the defacto standard for HD was 1080p and now your video is a little soft on an ultra HD monitor. Otherwise, great job.

Something I find helpful when drawing my own lines and changing the lengths of things is changing the unit of precision to 0, instead of 0.00 or 0.0. This way it's easier to edit two lines to make them the same length, etc. I wish SketchUp free could change units of precision for drawing lines.

I don't know if you can change in the middle of a drawing. If I go to "home" and click on "create new", I get a pull down menu to choose the template with the dimensions/units that I want to use.
That's a good question. I got the music from the TH-cam Creator Studio free audio library. I am usually pretty good about putting it in the music credits in the video info, but must have forgot for this video.
I cannot do the roof thing idk why I ve been trying to do the same but when I press that push up button it doesn't work :( and it doesn't show the midpoint
Are you sure you used the right button? I accidently choose the wrong one but when I went back to see what was wrong that's when I realized I was using the wrong button

I'm pretty comfortable using what used to be ProEngineer and more recently AutoCAD, and I found this video to be very helpful in learning the basics of a new modeling program.

I am not sure what you mean. You can change the perspective with the movie icon in the tray of tools on the right hand side. However, if you want something like a traditional engineering drawing showing the 3 traditional views, then check out the instructions here: forums.sketchup.com/t/3d-to-all-2d-view/9438/4
@@AaronKennedy I think Doug Webb may have seen another tutorial video which basically says you should always start with a 2-D template, and goes into a lot of detail about that. Which is frustrating if you then try and do it in the current version of Sketchup Free, because it doesn't seem to have that option at all.

Click to get to the "Home" screen. (In a drawing, click the upper right hand menu icon.) There is a Create New button with a little down arrow next to it. If you click the arrow on the Create New button there is a menu that will show up and allow you to choose different units.
The worse thing about this is the lack of hot keys. I cant stand going to the tool bar and searching for every step of a drawing. There isn't even a way to expand them so you can see them all at once. Thus us a major oversight.
