I'm a 71 year old grandma of 5 who has been using Fusion 360 for the last year for free for 3D printing and have got on really well for the simple projects I have done. However, being a law abiding citizen, I would feel guilty if I used a different name etc to sign up for another free year and I certainly can't afford a paid subscription. So I've been looking for another free software package to produce 3d models for 3D printing. This is the first tutorial I have come across which has simple, easy to understand instructions. I have learnt more in this tutorial than in all the others I've looked at. Thank you so much. I'll keep viewing.
to create simple structures, a better solution than "Sketchup" is 3D. "Design Spark Mechanical" is an even better program than "Fusion 360" and it is a free program.

Good job young man. Although I was a designer 1972-1988 I never learned AutoCAD, Today at 80 I'm just having fun with simple designs that are easily done with SketchUp. Thanks Again.
Nice video! I came here specifically because 9:29 I couldn’t figure out why I wasn’t able to type dimensions. This one aspect made me so mad I decided to take a step back, stop “teaching myself,” and learn some basics of the program before continuing. And I’m glad I found your video! I had just watched another “Sketchup for beginners” tutorial and it was not at all for beginners. It had some useful info, but it’s the little things that they took for granted: menu navigation, basic tools and how to access them, etc. I felt like I wasn’t going to learn this program after that video. Thankfully I found yours and you added context to several things I’d already learned but didn’t know the reasons for. That’s a huge help. Thank you!
I've been playing around with SU for a while and getting nowhere. Your super clear explanation of the basics has me doing way more than before in a much shorter time. Thank you!
I just found this software. I've challenged myself to create ONE thing on my 3d printer rather than just pull stuff others created. I was fumbling hard with getting it to do anything. Watching this one video and I can suddenly create an object. Not printing just yet. I have a box with beveled edges and holes in it. But frankly I couldn't be happier. I can see where this is going. GREAT video, patient instructor. Good stuff, brother.
I've been trying to build a basic solid room in Blender for two days now. I learned how to do this in free sketchup simultaneously in another screen in real time before this 22 min video ended. Thank you so much! This gives me hope. lol
i did sketch -up back when i was studying my building design diploma. forgot how to use it for a while, your tutorial really woke me up again. thank you. now i can start working again
I learned how to use SketchUp 2 years ago thanks to your tutorials and I made few good projects. But, then I stopped drawing for a while and now here we go watching your incredible and easy to understand tutorial again. Lol
Hi Justin! I just wanted to drop a line to let you know that I appreciate your tutorials. In just this first video, I'm already feeling more confident with the software so far. I'm gearing up for a number of DIY projects so Sketchup will be a tremendous aid in helping me to master the design process. Thank you for sharing your time and expertise with us. Definitely looking forward to supporting your content and learning more. Much success to you!
I've had sketch or my computer for 6 years. Messed with it every once in a while with little success. After watching your series I was able to produce a 3D model of a flat bed truck body. Took some time but you got me out of the weeds. Thank you very much for putting the time into this.
Coming from a Maya background, a lot of this was known to me but I appreciate your pacing and explanations of the inference snapping. Very helpful video for new 3D artists
Excellent! Get two monitors, put this video on one, and Sketchup on the other and slowly go through the video while you mimic in Sketchup what he is saying. He goes slow enough to allow you to catch what he is teaching. His instructions are very very clear.
Thanks very much. Just downloaded Sketchup free to have a go at some ideas for remodelling the garden. At age 78 its easier to move plants about the garden with the click of a mouse for my wife to see!
I have tried to figure out SU Free several times, each time giving up in considerable frustration. This has really helped. Looking forward to the next one.
Thank you for making a really descriptive, simple and very clear Tutorial. This is my first time using Sketch up and I can do the basic drawing with your video. Keep inspiring! you are good.
thank you so much. I was sick for a school lesson once where we got introduced to sketch up and now i no how to use it i am in a better position to finish my assignment!!! tytytyty xoxoxo
This is by far the most helpful sketchup tutorial I've found. If I have a model I've imported from the warehouse, how do I select the entire model and scale it down to shrink it?
I've been using the time limited version of SketchUp for a few weeks, and just tried getting to grips with the online version for when the 40 days expires. An interesting feature in the online version is automatically making model Revisions at every save point. Shame this is missing in the desktop version. Though a bit of a nuisance not being able to directly save on a local drive.
Justin! Good job! 5 stars for being a good teacher. Tip I just realized for anyone new: using "Sketchup For Web"`... The PC control(s) to scale the tool menus (with all your tools) is same as zooming any web page, which is control+mouse-wheel.. this tip took me over an hour to figure out, because I trusted the official website to help me. (bad move). The official "Sketchup For Web" help tutorial says start here: if you want "Sketchup For Web" tips.. and a few words later ... begins using hotkeys for "Sketchup Pro" which dont exist in "Sketchup For Web". Funny, right? So I was going in circles until I found this video with Justin!...
Thanks so much for this - just downloaded as I want to model a house we're going to build, and had no idea where to start. The tutorial is clear and concise, easy to follow and very interesting. Going to watch lesson 2 on drawing a basic house right now!

Thank you for this video. I've been trying to follow how to use Sketch Up off and on for the past several years. I learned how to use drafting software back in the days of Windows 98 and 2000 while in High School. I was pretty proficient and helped draft up several farm buildings. The modern software is so overwhelming and frankly too expensive for the limited use I need today. I just want to build some furniture items and put together cut sheets like so many TH-camrs seem to be doing today. Your tutorial was to the current version and that is very helpful, too many of them are back from when SketchUp was a standalone company or when it was operated by Google. Now that Trimble owns the rights, it is even more different. I kinda wish I could afford the installation version, as the browser version is a little finicky. But, it is worth it to try out.
That's it, finally! Thank you so so so much, I found this video and your channel and helped a lot to not pulling all of my hair out whilst practicing with my Sketchup Design Project 👍🏼🙏🏼
This has helped massively in getting me started, 1 question that might be ahead of the tutorials but i want to know this is going to work before investing too much time and then having to stop. Also applies to woodworking, i want to design and make a custom racking system for my garage, can i make a cut sheet from the design. Thanks

Glad it helped!
Dear Sir. A great video tutorial. I needed to help my grandson in using this software. The introduction offered by Trimble was not very helpful and by just checking YT I have come to your video and the problem was solved. Very easy to follow and my grandson is doing his project for year 7(First year at High School, Australia). Thank you. I have just subscribed.
Hi there! Really glad I've been able to help - hope your grandson is enjoying his project!
My design teacher asked us to use this. your tutorial was very helpful. Thank you lots!
