And if One Piece did a crappy asspull like that... that would be the biggest let down ever. But in general I think inevitably some people are still going to be disappointed when the One Piece is revealed and perhaps not like it. You just won't please everyone. Luffy not becoming pirate king is the worst cop out in the world. Even if he has a bigger dream, he repeatedly states that he is “luffy the man who will become pirate king”. I would understand if someone finds it before him but he WILL become pirate king. If he does not or chooses to skip out on it then it’s one of those cop outs that oda hates.

You know titles are not the same as behavior? A pirate king to you may be different than to someone else. Teach as a king is different than Luffy. So at the End, Luffy not being called Pirate King, because the view of the world on what a pirate king may be different from what Luffy thinks. Roger with a GameCube is a nice touch that system was a real treasure from 2001 a time as long ago as he found the legendary Laughtale Treasure. I expect Luffy to reach Laughtale, although I can also see him giving up the treasure to Nami's anger. 1 of the items is probably a Bronze Statue of Joyboy considering how early on Luffy wanted 1 of those made of him.

Ranking who I *genuinely* believe will end up with the One Piece: 1) Luffy: He's the MC 2) Buggy: It'll be hilarious 3) Silhouette: I just find it noticeably strange for a mystery character to be directly introduced as one of the 12 to claim the One Piece and not come significantly close to it. 4) Koby: The most neutral and trustworthy Character ever. 5) Blackbeard: One of the most intelligent guys and a man of plans that actually work. Carrying the will of Xebec. 6) Imu: Possibly the main villain, similar in reasons to Blackbeard. 7) Shanks: In-World closest to finding the One Piece. 8) Sabo: Closely carrying the will of Roger, Luffy's brother. Most recognised revolutionary. 9) Dragon: The World's Most Wanted Criminal, Head of the Revolutionaries, Luffy's Dad. 10) Sakazuki: A Marine, I don't see him achieving what has been told to us to deliver the title of The Pirates King. 11) Kuzan: Been shown to have some of the least importance character-wise out of these 12. Seems out of the blue at the moment. 12) Garling: Not talked about in-world, neither has the screentime. Similar in reasons to Kuzan.

I could see it going like this: Shanks (by some sequence of events) dies in a fight against BB. Luffy is angered and rather than getting revenge, it fuels his want to get the one piece before him. BB ends up getting to it first in the end and, in an effort to prevent him from getting it, Koby tries to fight him, but to no success. Koby then resorts to teaming up with Luffy. That gives you the spirit of Roger in Luffy, the spirit of Garp in Koby, and the spirit of Xebec in BB, making a new God Valley moment.
I think Shanks being wary of Blackbeard and now him going for the One Piece is more of him gatekeeping it until Luffy gets there. He probably knows Luffy is the one Rodger was waiting for and Blackbeard would ruin everything. It will probably end up with Shanks and Blackbeard facing off.

I'm gonna be honest, I still don't see Koby as much of a hero. To me he still feels too indoctrinated into the Marines. Yes he represents a more humane vision of the Marines, but unlike say Smoker or Fujitora or Kuzan I don't get the impression that he's willing to go against, or abandon the system, which I feel he MUST do because the system of the Marines is fundamentally evil. The Marines exist to enforce laws put in place to benefit the World Government and the Celestial Dragons. Is Koby willing to abandon that entirely for the sake of the greater good? I mean I genuinely see Luffy as more of a hero than Koby. Yes, he doesn't like being called a hero but he's still done more good for the world, liberating Alabasta, Dressrosa, Fishman Island, Wano, etc. What has Koby done?
That's Kobys arc. He couldn't look Alvida in the face in chapter 1, he was afraid in Marineford then saw the horrors of what being a Marine really were, and now with his mentor Garp gone Koby will have to decide does he stays loyal to the Marines or does he go off with Sword to change things and save the world. Oda didn't just show Sword in a hospital or Koby using his own attack on Hachinosu for no reason, and Smoker is dragging a box of something I assume to that hospital to add some fuel to the fire.

I agree with every single point and think I said a good amount of this in the comments on your community post with the poll. The only thing that I didn’t realize at the time is that Kuzan could potentially be aligned with at least 3 different contenders. Akainu, Black Beard, or Coby. We have no idea what his plans are, and he could be a sword double agent that tried to take control of the marines and failed, so instead aligned with BB to get the road map to the one piece, and to put himself in a position to thwart BB.

But I don’t see him actually wanting the one piece, or any interest in it besides a surface level curiosity. His whole organization is all about disrupting the cruelty of the WG.
Definitely agree, like Luffy can end up with the One Piece after the defeating Blackbeard, but end up giving it to Koby/Koby liberates Luffy from the responsibility of it so that he can be free. I also like the idea of Koby and Sabo working together afterwards to create a better world, like a coming together of revolutionary liberation and honest justice or whatever
It’s a testament to Oda’s storytelling that all of these characters getting the one piece first would make for a fantastic story. Hats off, Oda-sensei!
Buggy won't find the One Piece, but he will be the one who winds up with it at the end. Everything Buggy has, he's only attained after it's ceased to be relevant to Luffy. Buggy entered the Grand Line only after Luffy overcame that challenge, became a warlord only after warlords stopped being an obstacle for Luffy, and was named an emperor only after Luffy proved he can defeat an emperor. So once the One Piece has done whatever it is that it's going to do and Luffy no longer has use for it, it will somehow fall into Buggy's lap, along with all the fame and fortune that comes with it.
lots of logic to this, but i would disagree with the main point that luffy will hand off the one piece to another. i think your portrayal of luffy to be wrong, as i see his journey, the one piece is absolutely integral to his dream, so much so that its clear to say his dream depends on getting it, so him passing it off to another doesnt make any narrative sense. thinking that because vegapunk says something to the effect that whoever finds it will control the fate of the world has zero relevance to luffy, the hero talk doesnt matter at all, for luffy its to achieve his dream. Black beard has the highest chance after luffy due to narrative sense, but as we see with him throughout the show, everytime he enacts part of his plan, its either during the fighting, or an aftermath capitalization of the situation. an due to how he keeps running into luffy as a theme with his plans (an others) its much more likely that its a draw, luffy and blackbeard end up at the one piece at the same time. Kobys claim to the one piece would be satisfying, but it doesnt fit, koby simply wants to be the best marine he can be, an to change the state of the marines as a whole, not the world, he doesnt need the one piece for that, its a much more likely scenario that koby manages to sway the marines to his side when sakazuki inevitably fails. As for buggy, it seems clear to me that he falls just short of getting the one piece. Buggys whole thing in the show is that he unintentionally fails upwards, every time he gets ahead, its due to him failing what he wants to do....to keep consistent with his theme, now that he WANTS to get the one piece......he wont get it. besides, hes techinally from that 'old era' as well, he will not be the one to get the one piece.
On “Heroes”: Hero is a “Moral Concept”. A Moral Concept is one that can have a change in its definition depending on the Ethics of the person using the concept. For example: if one holds “Other people should be the beneficiary of my actions as a primary”, then a hero is “one who risks their lives to save others”. However, if one holds “I should be the primary beneficiary of my own actions”, then a hero is “one who risks their lives to gain and keep values”. Garp, as a marine, is a hero who saves people who are victims of the initiation of force, for the sake of the people. Luffy, as a pirate, is a “hero” who is pursuing his happiness by way of adventure. Luffy saves people, but as a secondary consequence of him pursuing his happiness. He makes friends, which contribute to he values and happiness, and then defends those people from people initiating force on them. He doesn’t go out trying to find people to save though, like a Marine. Luffy is in a culture that seems to universally hold a hero to be like Garp, someone who saves people as a primary, so he rejects the idea that he is a hero. Luffy is my hero though, regardless of what he would think of that haha
i dont think it matters, as the one piece will unite all oceans, freeing people from world gov and benefitting everyone. i see luffy quitting out shortly before he gets the box or whatever when he finds out its his destiny to become something hes determined to , because he is all about freedom and making his own choices.

It's really a stretch to think Luffy isn't closest. Luffy not becoming pirate king is the worst cop out in the world. Even if he has a bigger dream, he repeatedly states that he is “luffy the man who will become pirate king”. I would understand if someone finds it before him but he WILL become pirate king. If he does not or chooses to skip out on it then it’s one of those cop outs that oda hates.

You know titles are not the same as behavior? A pirate king to you may be different than to someone else. Teach as a king is different than Luffy. So at the End, Luffy not being called Pirate King, because the view of the world on what a pirate king may be different from what Luffy thinks. So him saying he is going to become pirate king says shit about the situation.

Roger with a GameCube is a nice touch that system was a real treasure from 2001 a time as long ago as he found the legendary Laughtale Treasure. Luffy wants to steal the sun. A whimsical fantasy of childhood to reach up and seize the day. To do so he would have to be a good pirate or more precisely the best pirate. Roger used to say this, and so when a kid says this and then eats the sun God fruit shanks bet his arm on that. This is the best theory I have come by.

1) Luffy: He's the MC
2) Buggy: It'll be hilarious
3) Silhouette: I just find it noticeably strange for a mystery character to be directly introduced as one of the 12 to claim the One Piece and not come significantly close to it.
4) Koby: The most neutral and trustworthy Character ever.
5) Blackbeard: One of the most intelligent guys and a man of plans that actually work. Carrying the will of Xebec.
6) Imu: Possibly the main villain, similar in reasons to Blackbeard.
7) Shanks: In-World closest to finding the One Piece.
8) Sabo: Closely carrying the will of Roger, Luffy's brother. Most recognised revolutionary.
9) Dragon: The World's Most Wanted Criminal, Head of the Revolutionaries, Luffy's Dad.
10) Sakazuki: A Marine, I don't see him achieving what has been told to us to deliver the title of The Pirates King.
11) Kuzan: Been shown to have some of the least importance character-wise out of these 12. Seems out of the blue at the moment.
12) Garling: Not talked about in-world, neither has the screentime. Similar in reasons to Kuzan.

I could see it going like this:
Shanks (by some sequence of events) dies in a fight against BB. Luffy is angered and rather than getting revenge, it fuels his want to get the one piece before him. BB ends up getting to it first in the end and, in an effort to prevent him from getting it, Koby tries to fight him, but to no success. Koby then resorts to teaming up with Luffy. That gives you the spirit of Roger in Luffy, the spirit of Garp in Koby, and the spirit of Xebec in BB, making a new God Valley moment.

I'm gonna be honest, I still don't see Koby as much of a hero. To me he still feels too indoctrinated into the Marines. Yes he represents a more humane vision of the Marines, but unlike say Smoker or Fujitora or Kuzan I don't get the impression that he's willing to go against, or abandon the system, which I feel he MUST do because the system of the Marines is fundamentally evil.
The Marines exist to enforce laws put in place to benefit the World Government and the Celestial Dragons. Is Koby willing to abandon that entirely for the sake of the greater good?
I mean I genuinely see Luffy as more of a hero than Koby. Yes, he doesn't like being called a hero but he's still done more good for the world, liberating Alabasta, Dressrosa, Fishman Island, Wano, etc.
What has Koby done?
That's Kobys arc. He couldn't look Alvida in the face in chapter 1, he was afraid in Marineford then saw the horrors of what being a Marine really were, and now with his mentor Garp gone Koby will have to decide does he stays loyal to the Marines or does he go off with Sword to change things and save the world. Oda didn't just show Sword in a hospital or Koby using his own attack on Hachinosu for no reason, and Smoker is dragging a box of something I assume to that hospital to add some fuel to the fire.

The only thing that I didn’t realize at the time is that Kuzan could potentially be aligned with at least 3 different contenders. Akainu, Black Beard, or Coby. We have no idea what his plans are, and he could be a sword double agent that tried to take control of the marines and failed, so instead aligned with BB to get the road map to the one piece, and to put himself in a position to thwart BB.

But I don’t see him actually wanting the one piece, or any interest in it besides a surface level curiosity. His whole organization is all about disrupting the cruelty of the WG.

Definitely agree, like Luffy can end up with the One Piece after the defeating Blackbeard, but end up giving it to Koby/Koby liberates Luffy from the responsibility of it so that he can be free. I also like the idea of Koby and Sabo working together afterwards to create a better world, like a coming together of revolutionary liberation and honest justice or whatever

Buggy won't find the One Piece, but he will be the one who winds up with it at the end. Everything Buggy has, he's only attained after it's ceased to be relevant to Luffy. Buggy entered the Grand Line only after Luffy overcame that challenge, became a warlord only after warlords stopped being an obstacle for Luffy, and was named an emperor only after Luffy proved he can defeat an emperor.
So once the One Piece has done whatever it is that it's going to do and Luffy no longer has use for it, it will somehow fall into Buggy's lap, along with all the fame and fortune that comes with it.
lots of logic to this, but i would disagree with the main point that luffy will hand off the one piece to another. i think your portrayal of luffy to be wrong, as i see his journey, the one piece is absolutely integral to his dream, so much so that its clear to say his dream depends on getting it, so him passing it off to another doesnt make any narrative sense. thinking that because vegapunk says something to the effect that whoever finds it will control the fate of the world has zero relevance to luffy, the hero talk doesnt matter at all, for luffy its to achieve his dream. Black beard has the highest chance after luffy due to narrative sense, but as we see with him throughout the show, everytime he enacts part of his plan, its either during the fighting, or an aftermath capitalization of the situation. an due to how he keeps running into luffy as a theme with his plans (an others) its much more likely that its a draw, luffy and blackbeard end up at the one piece at the same time. Kobys claim to the one piece would be satisfying, but it doesnt fit, koby simply wants to be the best marine he can be, an to change the state of the marines as a whole, not the world, he doesnt need the one piece for that, its a much more likely scenario that koby manages to sway the marines to his side when sakazuki inevitably fails. As for buggy, it seems clear to me that he falls just short of getting the one piece. Buggys whole thing in the show is that he unintentionally fails upwards, every time he gets ahead, its due to him failing what he wants to do....to keep consistent with his theme, now that he WANTS to get the one piece......he wont get it. besides, hes techinally from that 'old era' as well, he will not be the one to get the one piece.

However, if one holds “I should be the primary beneficiary of my own actions”, then a hero is “one who risks their lives to gain and keep values”.
Garp, as a marine, is a hero who saves people who are victims of the initiation of force, for the sake of the people.
Luffy, as a pirate, is a “hero” who is pursuing his happiness by way of adventure.
Luffy saves people, but as a secondary consequence of him pursuing his happiness. He makes friends, which contribute to he values and happiness, and then defends those people from people initiating force on them. He doesn’t go out trying to find people to save though, like a Marine. Luffy is in a culture that seems to universally hold a hero to be like Garp, someone who saves people as a primary, so he rejects the idea that he is a hero. Luffy is my hero though, regardless of what he would think of that haha
i dont think it matters, as the one piece will unite all oceans, freeing people from world gov and benefitting everyone. i see luffy quitting out shortly before he gets the box or whatever when he finds out its his destiny to become something hes determined to , because he is all about freedom and making his own choices.

It's really a stretch to think Luffy isn't closest. He's the only with both three poneglyphs AND someone guaranteed to be able to able read the poneglyphs, a fleet large enough that no one would recklessly try him and enough power and skill across his entire crew to navigate the grandline and find the one piece
