An excellent video. over a small number of years, I got SLAP injuries to both shoulders. First when I fell off my in-line skates and landed on my outstretched arm which locked (compression) then when lowering myself through a man-hole and the ladder slipped and resulted in a overweight dip, then when I tripped and grabbed some scaffolding and made my arm into a bungee cord. I saw doctors and physios without a lot of improvement - I discovered the static hang. Just hanging with my body weight over the course of a year seemed to fix all the problems.
That’s Dr. Kirshs dead hang. Not meant for glenohumeral joint instability. Since there’s no muscles or blood flow being stimulated in the dead hang it’s not going to stabilizes or heal a labrum tear. Also there’s zero evidence to back up your claim. You’ve likely had a very minor tear and the body simply was able to recover with time.
How can hanging passively be of any benefit for a slap injury? If anything, your are putting more stress on that region? When your hanging, your bicep is engaged, pulling even more on the labral tear, and the bicep tendon itself is stressed too? I'm trying to figure out what could help it, since i've tried the hanging too but it makes it worse
Phenomenal video! I'm 3 months out of surgery, just finished 2 months of PT, and now I'm back in the gym. Definitely going to try some of these different variations of exercises. Thank you!
I have watched dozens of rehab videos and this one is by far the most comprehensive. I am to the point of entertaining surgery but this video shines some light at the end of the tunnel. Glad I found it.
@@aaron___6014 I did mostly cable exercises with lightweight and laying on the floor as well. Great results. Had to manage some pain at the beginning with Tylenol and Advil. Hanging on the bar proved very effective. I gained strength doing assisted pullups with a rubber band. Now I can do five pullups with no assistance.

Thank you so much, very thorough and detailed video. I had a SLAP repair on my shoulder over a year ago and am still dealing with shoulder instability. Also trap and neck pain, so many knots. Even thoracic spine stiffness as well as periscapular pain. 😢 MRIs are negative and ive seen three different PTs already but cant seem to find the solution, but I wont give up, theres definitely some bad days. Will do the exercises in this video. Thank you.
I am almost in the same boat, It has been close to 4 years after surgery, I couldn't do proper rehab post surgery due to health issues in family and COVID. MRI's show nothing is wrong, but whenever I try PT it is a painful process. Pain in neck, traps, scapula and anterior side of shoulder. It is becoming painful year after year, now cant even lift small weights or put strain on it. Seen multiple surgeons and physios. Tell me if you found something
@Sickkmick yo i have the exact same problem as you, and especially when i go for runs my shoulder pains a lot. also been through 3 physiotherapists and 1 chiropractor and had a slap repair. just a bunch of wasted money. for me they didnt do mris tho just the sonography thing which was weird. i also get the same problem as you where my thoracic spine suffers like i cant even sit down and study for 20mins without being in pain.
but after sleeping i feel alright but than when i get up and do work the same problem occurs, i think this video is gold because its overlaps with this other video ive seen and the exercises where very similar, the anterior rotation with the weights on top of that the scientific evidence really seems to check out
I was skeptical at first, but your videos are extremely comprehensive and well nuanced, especially with regards to the science interpretation. Will be continually following up on the upcoming videos, thanks and cheers!
Thank you so much for the detailed information about the exercises it’s really make it much less complicated instead of wonder which type of exercises should I do, do I need to train for power or mobility and etc. I have a question tho? The muscles around my shoulder and on my back are very weak, I also may be having light bicep tendinitis on both shoulders, so can I use the same exercises you showed in the video for this type of situation? Keep going. Once again great video I like that you put science and experience behind everything
I've been dealing with pain in the front of my right shoulder for almost three years now. My doctor suspects a SLAP, so I'll get an MRI soon. I hope they can discover what I have, because even though I can mostly train without issues, it is still rarely completely pain free and I've had to remove certain movements from my training because of it. I'll be referring back to this video if they find a SLAP. Thank you.
Thank you so much for such a detailed video. May I ask when can I start rehab after got SLAP tear? Should I start immediately even with some paint, discomfort in the shoulder or just rest for a while (weeks to months) for the shoulder feel better then start rehab?

Thanks for the video. I hurt my shoulder a couple years ago and stopped benching since. I’ve noticed lately when I workout, motions like lat pulls/seated rows hurt my shoulder now. The pull of the weight gives my shoulder pain. I guess the only way to explain is that it feels like it’s pulling my shoulder apart. Will have to try these workouts and see how it goes.
I have a shoulder labral tear and a cyst on spinoglenoid notch and measures approximately 1.5 X 1.4 x 1.3 Cm. I was given a cortisone shot for pain and it has relived 95% of the pain, but the cyst is definitely pressing up on my nerve cashing severe pain when i didn't have cortisone. Hi I have same pain due to playing cricket as I'm pace bowler, recently I got injection in my shoulder, but pain is still there, nothing changed, Doctor told me there is some liquid in your shoulder, so Injection will help to dried it out i am doing exercises as my physio told me which is simillar to your exercises. what can I do? Even I want to go gym but I'm scared of my shoulder pain, I want to goback on the field. this pain is since last 2years. Can you help me with that please?
I abducted and externally rotated my left shoulder backward, too much pulling something heavy in a pivot, and I felt a few clicks within it. There was a bit of pain in the moment, but later on in the day, it got worse. The doc who examined me classified it as a supraspinatus sprain, yet my shoulder felt different from how it was before with some pain. I'm worried that I damaged my labrum.

thanks for the research, I think I'll be doing physiotherapy. I got my slap tear from doing weighted dips for the first time and the pain was unbearable in the beginning when it happened 2 years ago to the point where it was difficult trying to sleep. I got to the bottom position of the dip and I heard a pop and immediately stopped . Its much better now, but a slight ache always comes back as a reminder when I'm active. Has anyone else experienced this?
I injured myself from muscleups. Its been 3 months, I have full ROM, but sometimes I feel discomfort. I still can train in the gym but not at full strength.
I did it to both shoulders doing cobra stretch during physio for my back, I was told to hold the position which i did and they both just went, It sucked, cuz i was already dealing with an oblique tear, and a slipped rip and degeneration of my facet joints. May it hard to try and physio for my back. Its better now but tool about 6 months to recover. I can do pushups again now, but every now and then they get sore. Would love to try stemcell, but that shits expensive
Hello Doctor, I am a cricket player fast bowler. but from last 7-8 months I have been suffering from shoulder pain. There is always a clicking sound in my shoulder in any type of movement. While bowling I don t feel any kind of pain, but it pains too much while throwing the ball. Recently I ve done the MRI its shows i have a slap team which is clocking 11 to 12 O clock and There is separate tear of the anterior inferior labrum which takes the form of a Perthes lesion. Labral tissue is torn from the glenoid rim but remains attached to the periosteum. Stripping of the periosteum along the anterior inferior glenoid. I have no pain or discomfort at all except throwing, i can do everything without any pain but i want to get my throw back. What do you suggest me to do now and how big my tear is in term of grade😢
Not sure what my problem is, but I’ll explain it like this. It feels like the muscle or tendon gets hung up on a bones randomly sometimes out or nowhere, they I move my arm just right and the pain is gone as soon as it came.
I dislocated my shoulder doing jiu jitsu. I've had MRI and waiting surgery. I have a tear and build up of fluid because of this. Now I'm worried I should not do surgery, can the tear self heal?
