4 drivers plus assumption that the 2 balance amature covers the treble should gives enough leeway for tuning the treble in sound equalizer without affecting the mid and bass region. Why not try that?
I love a lot the sound my KZ ZS6 Earphones provides to my ears. My ZS6s now wear a Twisted 6-Core Copper Plated Cable. For me, this cable tames any overpowering highs you may hear and strengthens the lows. The sound is very much improved, IMO. I also love my MEE M6 Pros. They are also have great sounding highs to lows and are actually a tad better when I listen to music with an up-right bass. I have a Twisted Silver-Plated Cable ordered for them.

what kind of music do you use to test them? Just one genre or different ones? BTW, to build silicone protectors maybe you wanna try Sugru. Is a moldable glue that is perfect for this kind of problems ;). I use it a lot everywhere
If you are going to buy this, pair it with a triple flange eartips. Triple flange reduces the highs. It will remove the piercing highs but it will still be sizzling.
does sound leak a lot? planning on using them on the bus, so they need to be quiet and those holes on the back worry me a little...
Im more likely to have a balance iem. Not a bassyhead. Any suggestion?

excellent review! Mine should arrive tomorrow. Ive watched all the reviews out so far (not many) and read up on them and this comparison was great. Great camera shots and your voice was super easy to listen to. I also have some comply tx-500 tips and an upgraded cable coming in the mail soon too. Hopefully these two upgrades along with a little burn in time will help with the sibilance and treble I've been hearing about.

I just got these for just over 48 hours and I agree with the overemphasis on the Ssss and high treble. I'm not sure whether burn in will help but I let them run non stop at moderately high volume by itself for several hours and after that replaced the silicone buds with foam ear buds I made from safety ear plugs. Running it through a Burr-Brown ear phone amp, these sounds damn good over a wide variety of music from pop, classical, big band, rock etc. It also feels to me that the treble subsides quite a bit when used with my home made foam ear tips. This pair of earphones are definitely great value for money!
great video comparison man, I do like the zit and was going to try the zs5 but I might go for the zs6 now. also about the fit, I have the zit fit perfectly so it have to do with your ear shape.
Hey for sound clearity and soundstage which one i should prefer, ZS10 or ZS6? Or can you suggest something else in that price range(max $35)

Hey there, nice review! How would they compare to the ZST model? I'm using the ZST daily and really love that but I'd like to upgrade. But I'm worried about the harsh highs problem. To my ears there was no such problem with the ZST's. Also owned the Xiaomi model you showed in the video but they were really REALLY harsh in the beginning. Several pink noise sessions over the night cured that problem for me. So what do you think, should I get the zs6 or zs5 or should I just stick with the ZST instead?
Personally speaking, I find the ZST's to be the perfect balance. not too overwhelmingly high.
ZS6- while detailed, I find them to be too bright for my liking.
you could always give them a shot and see. there's a deal happening with them on gearbest check my twitter for more info.
also, Comply ts200 tips may lighten them up a bit.

Hello, try to use memory foams on your ZS6. I'm using them on my ZS5 v2 (2BA in nozzle) and they pretty good damps the harsh treble. BTW my ZS6/green are on the way to me :-).
what is the best thing to take for rock up to $35? we need bass.

Thanks for such detailed review! I would suggest using a portable headphone amplifier for low impedance IEM/headphones, that should take care of the elevated treble. These are balance armatures and do need proper amplification to sound their best. The same thing apply to KZ ZST but not so much to ZS3 because they have dynamic drivers.

Mines left earphone is a bit loose as well, did you do something about it or you just let it be? Im also using ZS6 too.
I reinforced mine with some rubber glue.
Just ordered these along with a set of Ostry OS300 eartips, which were recommended by somebody over on Head-Fi to reduce the piercing treble (I can always pick up some Comply tips locally if I don't like them). Will get back with a report in a month or so when I get them. Also ordered a silver upgrade cable (mostly to have a backup cable since I tend to destroy cables rather quickly), I could see if it changes the sound at all, even though I don't believe it will

how is the bass conpared with ZST?
i ended up selling mine because i couldn't get any at all (i have an iphone 7).
You need to be using a good pair of eartips in order to get a good seal in your ears- the drivers are small and need that trapped sound between your canal and earphone in order to produce the the bass.

He's right about the highs right out of the box. But if you allow to burn in, the highs mellow down a lot. I'm not sure if anyone else had the same result. Kz zs6 is my main/beater iem.

if you're a clumsy person like me and use earphones on a daily basis, I recommend the zs6 simply becuase it has a metal body compared to the plastic body.. the plastic slowly starts cracking and around the 1 year mark for me) the shell starts breaking up and falling off.
Adjust the EQ in your phone or player app and the sibilance is gone....
These are great for women's vocal jazz as a flat EQ, Diana Krall was excellent to listen to....
Pretty much every track or album I have listened to will need some type of adjustment, regardless of the earphone brand.
Listening to MP#3s on your phone is equal to garbage in, garbage out....I don't have a 900 dollar player, so my phone will have to do and the KZ ZS6's are more than adequate for them.
I have over 30 different tips from various earphones in my past, I'm actually using 2 different ones, 2 different sizes, as my left canal is larger than my right.....One size does not fit all, and this goes for most everyone.
I'm giving them a 7.5/10.

I prefer the ZST's over the ZS6's - it really depends on if you're looking for a brighter sounding pair of earphones or a warmer sounding pair.
I'm having trouble to connect the cable in the 2 pin socket, I mean the socket in my pair have a small holes compare to the pin diameter. If I'm not wrong this happened to you in your KZ ZS5, the sound it's like you say and it's too bright, I actually think that the KZ ZS5v1 are a more succesfull product in my opinion. Nice review!
I'd advise against the dampening plan. You'll mess up other frequency bands too, including those you don't want to mess up in the first place. Comply foam tips works wonder for me in taming high frequencies. The rounded one like the one you have, or the T400.
Also, I got a different opinion on the ZS5's sound signature, but that might also because we got different versions of ZS5. My ZS5 got a noticeable dip in the middle freq range, whilst the ZS6 is more balanced. For that, I love the ZS6 more, but I wouldn't say no to my ZS5 either :)
I'd second this. There is an obvious spike in the high range on the ZS5 and ZS6. Tuning down the treble is the best approach.
The dampner worked- there simply wasn't anywhere to put the foam.
Awesome to hear! How did you end up doing it? Just foam over the tips or in the housing?
I cut out pieces of low density foam and put them within the eartips since there wasn't enough room under the grills.
Well, it's hit and miss. To get a dampener to work exactly as we intended (only targeting/filtering specific frequency bands) requires lots of experiments and trial and error. I'm sure Shure spend lots of time designing the frequency filters in their SE846. But if you get the dampener to work as you'd like, then you're very lucky, good for you.
BTW, I've watched your video on putting the foam inside. I think you succeeded putting a bit of foam inside the grill, no? I mean you succeeded putting back the grill with the foam inside/behind the grill, just need to glue the grill back?
Tried these two yesterday. Didn't like it. Everything you've said about them is true. The highs are over pronounced and ruins the high resolution experience. It's a demo unit which is past burn in. Used xduoo x3 and it didn't help improve the sound. I ended up getting the ZSE which has the most decent soundstage among all kz's ive tried. Love your reviews. Keep it up!

The ATE`s are different in shape, material and number of drivers, they`re completely different..
The ATE`s have a single driver, are made of plastic and are more rounded and IMO are very comfortable as long as you have the right size tips.
These look horrible..
ala legend in terms of sound, i dont have the zs6 neither the zs5, but i can compare to other hybrid and ates are darker, a lot, you should take that for granted cuz they're not hybrid so there is more bass, less sub bass, mids are good and highs are a lot softer, not as harsh

I own the zs6's and if you think eq'ing is not a sin, it really reigns in the highs.

I currently use the eartips from my uiisii t8 earphones on most of my earphones- sometimes if i need a need a more stable fit then i'll use the comply foam tips.

TechManZ I need a purchase decision to make between zs6 and in ear pro HD, you can take your time but I need an answer to choose the right one... the zs6 is 33% more costly than in ear pro HD. I can only go for one. I have an android phone which is also xaomi. but I need overall best music+vocal including above average bass found in cheaper headphones. I can wait for 1 week for your decision. and there no way to check it out by myself as these aren't available in my city and I have to order it only from a trusted website in my country... I just use a generic one from aliexpress. I twist the earpiece into my ear to get a secure fit instead of compressing the foam before inserting.

Mine definitely did, but I have no idea why. It was almost like with the stock cable, the individual drivers weren't being driven evenly, results in a weird, messy mid scoop sound. I would not be surprised if the cable was faulty.

My ZS6 came in a few days ago, I've also had the Pro HD's before. I prefer the Pro HD by far. The ZS6 is nowhere near as comfortable as the Pro HD. I've had to buy separate eartips for the ZS6 to even fit, but they get uncomfortable really fast, having used the Pro HD for for almost a year on a daily base, I've never had a problem with them being uncomfortable, and they'd easily fit without losing seal, ZS6 loses seal even with good eartips. The pro HD is easier on the ears, be it on comfort or sound signature. ZS6 give ear bleeding sensation, the extreme sibilance and sharp tones only make this worse.
I'm saying this because a few weeks ago I was thinking about getting the Pro HD again (I'd lost them), or going with something new. I regret it, the Pro HD are better by far.

Nice revew i just subbed something that you didn't mention is that the small dynamic driver has a little guiding tube for the sound (something that didn't exist in the zs5 and some zs5 units has some hissing sound that can't be fixed due to to this failure a friend of mine has that problem but other friends don't experience that i believe that the problem is the glue because the zs5 drivers are all glued together in a messy way so i imagine that in these failure unites the glue blocking the sound and cousing the hissing ) this guiding tube according to KZ on the zs6 makes the sound of the small driver to find its way to the main chaimber fixing the hissing problem and enchancing the sub bass...i have the ZST bought them 9 mounts ago and the hights was a little to bright for me i did some serching and i found a EQ swtting that fits my tastes the problem i have with the ZST is that the plastic top covers of the shell fell of exposing the internals and i lost one of the covers they are poorly glued and because i live in very hot country the glue lost its stickiness they are working fine and the soundstage enchanced a little bit witch is normal cause there are no covers in them ....The zs6 propably will be my next perchaice cause the the sound materials and the fact that they are screwed on not glued...sorry for the big text keep on the good work

For sound i prefer the xiaomi hybrid pro's over the zs6's. If i wanted a long lasting pair i'd go for the zs6's. The option of interchangeable wires is great

I have just ordered these for 29 euro. I hope they give me a good sound on my Samsung S8. I am not happy with the AKG ones that came with the phone yet everyone else thinks they are great. If th KZ are not so good I will dump and probably go and get some shure 215's. Looking toward to watching you dampen the highs...
Why are'nt you setting equalizer for Highs? They have a wide frequency range and different drivers. I am damn sure EQ will get the highs fixed. Plus you can have a separate video tutorial for a fix that will give everyone a big relief.

Nicely done....After trial and errors, I finally increased slightly the impedance of the ZS5 by adding a 2 pin to MMCX adapter and plugged in a better cable, and boom ... the sibilance is gone .... Sounds like a 800$ IEM....
so the zs5 run only on one BA and one Dynamic, maybe 2?....the rest pretty useless?
Zs5's have 2 BA drivers and 2 D drivers same setup as zs6
There was also a silent revision with ZS5 so the current ZS5 is essentially a ZS6. First revision had 1 BA in the nozzle and another BA somewhere in the back of the shell. Now they have both drivers in the nozzle making them much brighter than they were. You can remedy that with a 75 Ohm impedance adapter to reduce the treble back to ZS5 Revision 1 levels.

I just can't get these to fit. It's too heavy and none of the tips fit just right. The zst pro was way better.
Silver plated cable + Amp + Comply Tx500 foam tips + 75 ohm impedance adapter = These become a dream. No more ear dampening treble/sibilance and hissing. But you can always do EQing, or even put cotton in front of the BA drivers(or just some good isolating foam tips). Taking one of the BA drivers out and turning it into a ZS5 revision 1 is also an option(I don't know if it's possible, depends on the structure).

Does this remove the noise on macbook pro? I can't use them on my mac because of the low impedance. I didn't know these impedance adapter existed

This time I tried to fix the comfort by using my good ol'trick of inverting the earpieces and using them on the opposite ears, but this didn't help at all with the ZS5. My suggestion is to use them as intended but actually place them a little bit angled angled order to keep the bore protrusion from hurting your ear's helix ending near the ear canal. I actually had to find a pretty specific bend of the earpiece and the headphones will produce air resistance when used outside because the back will inevitably stick out.
Im going to drill vents in my zs5. If that doesn't help, it cant make them any worse. Not impressed with z5, skeptical of zs6.

I really think you should put a small piece of tape over those airvents on the ZS6s and give them a listen for a few minutes, especially on songs with cymbals or high vocal range, I really believe that extra air is letting those tinny notes resonate much much worse than they would otherwise. This could lead to the earphones sounding more muffled, but there's so many drivers my guess it'll just turn the iem into more of a suboofer box since no air can escape which may strengthen bass but also deaden some of the shrillness...

I own a pair of the zs5's and agree 100% with the highs being too bright. Super fatiguing when listening to stuff with really bright snares and percussion. But there are some songs that make these things really sing. I was listening to Black Dog and was blown away by the clarity and bass that I heard. They're definitely not phones that I'd use on a normal basis but these are definitely fun to pull out every once in a while. The Bluetooth cable is good too but the battery only lasts like 3 and a half hours.
Thank you for reviewing the whole product. Not like other reviews where they changed the wires or eartips. So basically they are reviewing something we won't get when we purchase this.
+Brat PAQ with KZ who knows... the way they went about the ZS5's really is unfortunate and unprofessional. Hopefully if something like this ever happens again they wont revise and sell under the same model without of course advertising it as either a different model or rev.

bought ZS5, not satisfied , it's not having that punchy Bass I wanted, even ED9,ATE are having great Bass than ZS5 .
Not sure my OP3 is not enough to power ZS5 or it needs some more Burn-IN , or some prolem with Cables.

I tested them all, nothing is better than Urbanfun Hifi in terms of sound quality, comfort, they are universal, you can listen to music, watch movies, play games, with KZ it is impossible to play games and watch movies, there is not enough bass and it feels like everything is far away, urbanfun feeling your whole ear canal while kz sounds distant, zs6 is essentially the visual upgrade and even less bass than zs5, besides they look like knock off of campfire audio nova and they are overpriced for what they are, even if the price drops urbanfun is still superior overall
