    Watching this using my ZS6S, they do have overstated treble, but once you tune them down via EQ, they sound marvelous.

    I bought the KZ zs6. First impression was like, so bad. not so much bass and too much treble, but AFTER I removed the protection grille AND replaced the eartips with foam eartips AND after a good session of music (4 hours) at it's loudest on a DAC FiiO X1 with an internal amplifier I was blown away. The details in the music and perfect bass balance. just wow really wow , for 28 dollars? Best you can get. I can't imagine that 1000 or 3000 dollars iems will quadruple the sound quality. I just can't imagine that. I did the same to my KZ ZST, removed the grille and used foam tips, and bam what a difference. The ZST are very well balanced with not so high pitched treble, the hissssss is less noticable compared to the kz zs6. but I used the zs6 for music with rich details and vocals. And that's what they are designed for.

    I'm a semi-retired brass musician and list to mostly small jazz ensembles. I Love the sound my KZ ZS6 Earphones provides. I use a Twisted 6 Core Copper Plated Cable and have had no problems with the cymbals even when they are road hard. It may be the difference the copper plating has on the sounds. However, my MEE M6 Pros are also great sounding and may be just a tad better when I listed to music with an up-right bass.
    When I save up enough money, I will be buying a FIIO Q1 Mark II Amplifier to use with my iPhone 4 which I currently use as my music player.

    I've got the ZS6 today. I'm quite happy with these. It is like I'm wearing very well sounding heatsinks.🙂
    The seal is really crucial here. I've head ZS5 for a few months and those may sound a bit harsh too. It gets some getting used to, I admit.
    I like both ZS6 and ZS5 a lot. I've just realized the newer ones sound sharper, hopefully that gets better.

    That was the best qualitative review so far about this product. I'll be getting a pair as well. Already own the zs5 and the zst models from kz but the build quality and sq seems like an upgrade from the zs5. Subbed to you for your quality content. Enjoyed watching the whole review.

      +SidewindeR awesome! Thank you so much for letting me know your thoughts! (: I noticed that no one had made an awesome review so I had to make one! I haven't tried the zs5. Is it any good?

    • @josephnevin
      @josephnevin 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      TheMusicVlogger the zs5 is really really good. Better than my mi hybrid pro HD. But the plastic construction isn't really a looker. This is where I loved the ZS6. I'm really digging the aluminium construction. The highs, like you've mentioned about the ZS6 is a little overwhelming but I equalize it down and that let's me really enjoy the mids and the respectable bass.

    I just jumped onto kz recently. and I can't believe i'll say this, 10 hours of burn in really changed the sounds. it got so much better and balanced. the sounds out of the box is really really suck, and the manual says it needs to be burn. so I did what they say. first 2 hours, it sounds not much better. so I just leave it overnight and the sound changed. I'm pretty sure it's much better. kudos

    I know that this video is old but, IJust got the zs6 and I use them on my v30 plus (has a quad dac) with a paid eq app (after trying a bunch to find one I like) and these buds sound amazing with proper EQ. After burn in and using the cable upgrade and foam tips, I couldn't be more satisfied at this point.

    i had the same issue with my kz zst "the same problem" when i heard them for the first time they were "harsh" ( very bright) .. changed my effect presets just so i can get my normal sounds back (i am a guitar player) .. the amazing thing is that now they sound very very good no more harshness , and i think its because of that "letting them burn " thing . i have them for a year now (i don't use them very much) and started sounding good after 6 months probably

    Just watched your video and to give you some peace ill tell you what you did right to fix the kz earphones, the blasting of the music in full volume was the thing that fixed the sound. I also wanna thank you coz i just got these kz's and was trying to fix the hiss and your way actually fixed it. Just blasting the earphones in max volume and the equalizer on max (WHILE NOT WEARING THEM) then after tried it on normal volume removed the hiss.

    The zs6 are great and phenomenal earbuds, but you need china cheap Comply t400 memory foam tips that close the ears. Very important. I use an eq to dim the treble a bit to my liking.

  • @dillacorn_linux
    @dillacorn_linux 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I noticed with foam tips you have to get them super snug in order for them sound more isolated. They def need an extra cable, and foam eartips.

    What probably happened is that you hit Xmax on one of the balanced armature drivers essentially breaking it. Having two BAs firing into your ear is insane, when I had these I accidentally cut both BAs on one earpiece, not good. On the other earpiece I cut only one BA and it sounded a lot better.

    M50x is is V shaped and been bashed by audio community for some calling it 'monitors'. They are not flat and not suitable for for mixing! Like, at all! Consider Shure SRH 840 or Sony MDR7506 instead for honest representation of your mix.

    • @NathanLaValley
      @NathanLaValley  6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      +Tysun Yihan it's not at all a very shape. It has a tiny hump around 10000 hz. This DOESNT mean it's v shaped. You can use it for monitoring if you are aware of this sound signature in fact ALOT of very successful producers use these cans for music production. To me they are FANTASTIC tracking headphones. In the near future I hope to upgrade to some nice semiopen cans for better mixing but the m50x get the job done.
      I I think it's silly to assume that tiny little humps and sound quality really affect the mixing process that much. Think about all the different possible mediums that someone listens to music on. What is really truly flat when people are listening to music on headphones that are included with their phones that have very little sub base and over and situated sibilances. The main thing that I hate is this gear snobbiness that leads people to think they can't make music if they don't have the money to purchase multiple sets of headphones for multiple different environments and needs.

    • @gigihanmandarin
      @gigihanmandarin 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      TheMusicVlogger It has hump in mid / high bass and dip in low mids region and a spike in sub10k region, making it at least considered as U-shaped, hence it is less than ideal for monitoring, but each of their own. Audio is a very subjective topic so I'm not gonna argue with it.
      Great vid I have the same opinion as you do regarding ZS6 I'm gonna try to blast them throughout the night tonight like what you did and see whether it makes any changes. Great vid, keep it up. 👍👍

    • @NathanLaValley
      @NathanLaValley  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Tysun Yihan cool! (: Let me know how things are tomorrow! If that doesn't help try removing the wax filters!

    • @gigihanmandarin
      @gigihanmandarin 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      TheMusicVlogger HOLY SHIT YOU ARE GENIUS!!
      Before this my zs6 got at least 10 hours of proper pink noise burn in and another say, 5-10 hours of ear time coz I couldn't stand those sibilance to give it more ear time.
      Last night I blasted the ZS6 throughout the night, like, cellphone speaker level kind of loud. Put it in your ears and your ears will bleed kind of loud, guesstimating at least 120db?
      After one night holy cow, they turned from I wanna slice your eardrums bright to Grado bright! Still definitely a pair of bright IEMs but now I can appreciate its brightness instead of feeling to toss them into the trash every time I put them on.
      Again, brilliant suggestion there bruh, you did help! Thanks! Now we know, break in is real!

    • @NathanLaValley
      @NathanLaValley  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Tysun Yihan I actually don't think this is burn in but I know exactly what you are talking about! I think playing it at this volume slightly damages the ba drivers (the ones in charge of the highs). Everything I've found online states that ba drivers CANNOT be burnt in. But they might be able to be slightly broken and made quiter. I would try removing the wax filters as well!

    I don't know much about quality sound and quality earphones, in a way I was getting into KZ products as the hype took over every forum, so I got the KZ ZS5, they're not the best, but for the money, they do sound awesome, I got the Panasonic ErgoFit and I have to say I like ZS5 more, but the cable, eartips, and the build quality of the driver housing is rubbish, so I'll be replacing those...
    just ordered the new ZS6 as it appears to be a better ZS5, hope I'll like it, if not, it's not like I wasted cash on a high-end expensive IEM from a company like Shure, when I wasn't serious enough about sound in the first place....
    All that left me with 2 questions:
    1) Some go towards flat-sounding headphones and some towards more "fun", curvy, (maybe bass boosted) sounding headphones, how come altering how the source sound is more enjoyable to some? I feel like I want my next quality headphones to be flat but I don't want it to be "boring" as some say.
    2) If I'm one of those that prefer a cleaner, flat sounding headphones, that are high quality but not too expensive, what will you recommend? the ATH-M40X?
    As for your review, I gave you a like and I will subscribe, you seem honest and you deliver what the title says, I'd like to see more reviews of that same style, in depth, on other earphones and headphones, I've seen a bunch of videos about sound products and some do mention their sound signature and how their frequencies are being produced, but most if not all, are too short and lack a lot of information, it's hard to discribe how they sound, so they best way to try feel and guess is by seeing the curves you drew from listening to a bunch of earphones and comparing them, (Wish you had a way to show a more accurate curve so a comparison between devices would be spot on).
    So keep on the good work, looking forward for more quality videos and reviews in the future.

    • @NathanLaValley
      @NathanLaValley  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Awesome comment! Thanks for taking the time to talk to me. I( would recommend the m40x as a flat mid level headphone. Some people like the bass to overpower. Others like a super wide soundstage. Sound is kinda like time. The only reason standardized time exists is because everyone has agreed to do it. So there are certain headphones deamed "flat" to the human ear and to human created testing devices. The idea is that by creating music on "flat" headphones or monitors you have a better chance of others hearing your music the way you want them to.
      So then you have bass heads who don't like the way most music is engineered. So they want headphones that eq the sound a certain way. Now they are happy.
      But I as a producer could engineer the sound so that when they listen with "flat" headphones they will get extra bass. The reason I don't is because they are a minority and not my entire target demographic.
      Think of it this way. The eqing is either gonna happen at the sound source (mics, instruments, proximity effect), during mixing and masting, or in the listening device (headphone sound signature or dac eq). Which of those is the least destructive on the music. EASILY the last one.
      I hope that makes since. I'm kinda sleepy lol.
      And thanks for the subscribe my dude. More content soon! (:

    Been looking for a review on the ZS6s not because I want to buy them but because I already have. My reaction was EXACTLY the same as yours even down to the "burn in". Whatever the reason they were horrible before left for 48hrs at loud volume (not in my ears) and back on totally different sound! Not snake oil can't explain it just works. I'm using red foam as well the standard tips were terrible and lasted 5 seconds in my ears.
    I have many many pairs of headphones from cheap to high end B&Ws and Shure SE535s and IMO these compete in certain areas!

    Tried the stock silicone tips...honestly, they're horrible...they're way too narrow bored for something like the ZS6 so the already bright treble is focused even more making it basically unbearable. I tried red core silicone tips that came with my Noble Trident and they were better since the opening was wider and closer to the nozzle diameter, but still the ZS6 were too bright. Tried the AstroTec Foam Eartips I got as a bonus on Amazon for ordering 2 pairs of ZS6 at the same time...they were...O.K...they sound fine, maybe even decent, but the fact that they aren't really memory foam and more like a rubbery foam, fitment issues annoyed me. I originally got T500 Comply Eartips for my Trident, but found it stuffed the sound up too much and decided to stop using them, HOWEVER! they worked fantastically with the ZS6! So far they are the BEST combination I've heard because the Comply tips help keep the treble under control without dampening the rest of the dynamics. I would highly recommend using Comply T500 Isolation tips as a go to ear tip for the ZS6.

    Im waiting for Ostry OS300 tuning tips for the ZS6... These lower the high frequencies and according to a headfi review they fix the sound of these. I haven't received them yet but for now I rely on an EQ, and when EQd these things sound pretty good.

      If you EQ for the spike at 10khz and the dip at 5khz, yes they are indeed good. I find myself comprehending lyrics that I didn't understand before and hearing parts of the music I wasn't aware about before. So they are very detailed, it's just the frequency response is kinda wonky. frequency-response.blogspot.com/2017/09/kz-zs6-frequency-response.html this is what it looks like, make corrections to counteract it and they sound good. Also burn in did help with me as well. Not a huge difference, it's more like the first time I tried them I got ear raped by S, Z and T sounds and now they still need correction but it will just be unpleasant it doesn't hurt my ears anymore uncorrected. When i get the tuning eartips I will try them and then I might do a review on these at my channel.
      PS: I'm trying to burn them in well so I have them playing loud music across the room and they are annoying even from 5 feet away lol. The treble on these is insane without correction.

    when i got this & listened to it for a while i immediately go "eeh?" ,it sounds quiet on the bass and on "S" or cymbals its just too sharp & painful
    then i reset my v4a settings and make a new config for it & after a while i can tell the difference from my previous earphone (mx360)
    this earphone can show some small previously unnoticeable details & louder at lower volumes and even though the treble is awfully strong, countering it by increasing the bass works (lowering volume in music with tons of cymbal works)
    i haven't tried foam ear tips but some says it improves sound quality so i might buy it soon, the included cable is a bit disappointing, small touch/rubbing sound of the cable gets carried & its a bit too long for my taste and the single button control is sh*t.
    might try the mod when i can afford to lose one, but for now ill leave it as it is

    How do you go wireless with them

  • @Jahreas
    @Jahreas 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    The worst fitting ear phones for medium fit I've ever had, definitely not for on stage monitors as they keep falling out my ears without even using on the stage. Makes me wonder who designs these phones, not for pro use. Tried foam and still doesn't fit snuggly on the ear. Problems with custom wire, they fall off the socket and non of the leads 'snap' into place. Saying that the sound is OK, but the fit in ear is really bad.. The reason I look into these phones is for stage monitoring as a drummer... So wire issue, fitting problems, the highs are too thin.. It's a shame, had some hope in these but there's really no thought going into making these.

    • @NathanLaValley

    So these earphones are unflattering and suck for music listening but they're good for tracking/mixing? If so, I am glad I cancelled my order.

    • @NathanLaValley
      @NathanLaValley  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Chupick Nicolas no, they are great for music listening. They aren't "hyped" in the bass. So the bass isn't overstated but it is tight and focused. Now with a simple eq you can get ear shattering bass. The only thing that is an issue for most is the size. If you have large ears you should repurchase these! I have a link in the description if you want to support!

    • @NathanLaValley
      @NathanLaValley  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      jogurcik13 I would love to help you but I can't. It's kinda like knowing your shoe size. I know I am a 10 1/2 but depending on the situation I might need a different size. Certain tips work good for me but that's irrelevant. You have to try a ton of different tips to see what works for you. That being said I wouldn't get comply. In my opinion it's a major rip-off as they are selling phone at extremely high prices when other brands of earbud tips are selling them at extremely low prices and functioning almost exactly as well. Also the lifespan on a complete tip is extremely low so if you decide to go with the complaint if you're probably going to be sinking over $100 in tips per year.

    • @jogurcik13
      @jogurcik13 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    TheMusicVlogger I have a question...
    So if you want to "improve" the sound of the KZ ZS6, you just need to take the iron filter for dust out of the earphones and let the earphones play (on max volume) to sort of warm up the drivers? Then the sound will be better and you wont hear the 'S' sound that hard?
    Could you please look at this reaction it would really help to improve the sound of my KZ ZS6 earphones.
