- I've test-driven GWM Tank 300 HEV and DON'T think it's worth your money. Let me tell you why.

I'm a fan of GWM Tank vehicles but NOT the Tank 300 HEV model, and in this video I'll honestly tell you WHY I would NOT buy it, and what I think you should consider instead of forking out 61,000 AUD for a 5 seater.

Hmm. I don't agree mate sorry. I have done 6ks and love my tank 300 ultra HEV no issues and worth the money. It's a 9 speed not dual Dimitri. You should try sports mode and launch control around 6.5sec to 100 that's fast it's worth all the extras. For the record the tank 500 is only 120mm odd longer than 300 very similar dimensions go check. They will use the same HEV running gear as the 300 you realise and weighs 200 kilos more. I'm averaging 600 Kay's a tank 95 Ron mixed 10 to 12.5 litres per 100 true driving. Recently driving 16 kilometres down hill up to 70 klmh used no fuel pure hybrid. Everyone does not test them properly. Thanks for the videos 😊 cheers
**That's driving down mount Buller road Vic coasting & braking charges 100 % in HEV
@@miliobaltas its also nice not needing to use the brakes much. I drove 30km downhill, all HEV. Was a nice surprise. I turn off the annoying stuff (sticker on the camera inside) - I wish the ELK was easier to turn off - swipe down off!! Maybe one day
Good thing that we don't need to agree! 😎👌
@@ValueCarsAU What price extra would pay to get the HEV over the petrol?
I nearly purchased the Tank 300 petrol but the fuel economy was not good enough; the hybrid Tank’s consumption is better but not a significant enough improvement to justify the extra money. The hybrid Tank starts to make sense if you want the extra power Now if there had been a diesel option for the Tank 300 then that would have been my vehicle.
Agreed worth the extra power HEV and works
For the price of $47k for a petrol version, and IF you don't need a massive interior space, I still think Tank 300 petrol is an unbeatable deal for an avid off-roader who is not swimming in cash.
LOL @@ValueCarsAU 😆
I've had the HEV for about 4 weeks now. Initially, I had some doubts, so I borrowed the petrol version for a weekend, courtesy of the dealer. After driving it for 400km, I can confidently say that while both models have their pros and cons, the HEV stands out as the better choice. Its power/sport mode is particularly impressive. The UI of the dashboard is sleeker, the cruise control performs better, and the additional cameras (for blind spot alerts) along with the AWD system enhance the driving experience. Plus, the wireless CarPlay is a neat little feature. I've heard that the T500 is also going to adopt the HEV and 2.0 setup. With ongoing software improvements, I believe the driving experience with the HEV will only get better over time.
I agree 👍 HEV worth it
If you have 61k to drop on a 5 seater, call me jealous mate. Otherwise - absolutely not worth it.
@mickspecial So can you permanently turn off all the electronic nagging and driver assists? If not, I could never buy this car. I consider them more than an annoyance, but a safety hazard.
@@jaytheexplorer9016 I have a sticker over the internal facing camera (disable the fatigue monitor - otherwise need to turn off each time) - so the only step I need to do each time is to turn off Emergency Lane Keep Assist.
So the voice nagging (ex., regarding speed or approaching intersections) can be permanently disabled?
Great Video!
Any idea how much would be the big battery cost of replacement?
Absolutely no idea, why don't you inquire with the dealership?
@@ValueCarsAU they don't hace even the price of the Tank300. They have it but oficial reléase is still 2 weeks away
Thats weird. We test drove one at the Sutherland dealership and I don’t remember hearing any voice prompts, maybe the dealership turned that off but even the indicators seemed ok and logical, yes agree they are different to want im used too but didn’t find issues with the whole ride experience overall.
Oh I'm glad to hear that it can be turned off then!
Hey Dimitri, love your videos mate and would love to buy you a coffee one day. I have ordered the tank 500 more because of the Gvm on the vehicle for towing a 2t boat
And the fact that I’m moving from an 80 series petrol, LandCruiser, but the tank model you’re talking about with the electric sidesteps cost 74K (ultra)
But I still think it’s worth it for what you’re getting
But If situations were different, I would definitely go for the tank 300
Good for you mate, Tank 500 seems like a great choice. Would love to hear from you when it finally gets delivered - how your impressions will be then first-hand! 👌
@@ValueCarsAU I will do
And I’d be happy for you to review it also, if you haven’t already done so 👍
GWM has said that the Tank 300 HEV model isn’t built for saving fuel, it’s purpose is to make it smooth when start from 0 and generate more torque when climbing.
Whatever the reason, they've missed the mark on pricing entirely
@@ValueCarsAU Agreed it’s way too much not worth it compared to the petrol model.
💯 i agree, the extra 9-10k you spemd for the HEV isnt worth it, gwm need to work in the fuel consumption.
I just think 61k for a 5 seater - ANY Chinese 5 seater - is an exorbitant amount of money. And if you add the mother-in-law talking to you all the time, it's a non-starter.
Mother in law analogy reminds me of Mrs Bucket or is it Bouquet from Keeping Up Appearances - "watch the kid on the side of the road Richard". The kid is not just on the side of the road but there's a huge drainage between him and the car and he's behind a fence.
Hahaha anyone who watched Keeping Up Appearances and can quote anything about Mrs Bucket is very welcome on my channel. Thank you for making me laugh out loud. Doesn't happen often.
The LADY is just like my wife nagging about my driving
My mother-in-law is AN AMAZING AND KINDEST WOMAN 😎👌🤣
@@ValueCarsAU
your so lucky
I agree with you but I will put the Tank 500 idea on hold until I know what the fourth car from BYD is. If it is a Tang PHEV that coming in December then the Tank 500 HEV is off my list.
Not sure what you're agreeing with me on, as you're talking about completely different logic to mine - but I'm glad my video was thought-provoking for you! 😉
@@ValueCarsAU oh I agree with you that it is better to get the base tank 500 for abit more money instead of this car.
Driver alerts are seemingly only there to tick safety boxes for the ANCAP rating; surely the ‘friendly’ warnings can be turned off.
Well, the forceful ELK that steers you back into the lane when you're trying to turn can't be turned off, so zero guarantees that the mother-in-law alerts can be...
@@ValueCarsAU ELK can be turned off - I turn mine off because it sucks - like it does on most cars. The mother in law alerts can also be turned off.
@@ValueCarsAU turning elk off is easy
but having to turn it off each time would be a pain. Hope GWM would update the software with a permanent off mode.
My ultra petrol uses about 9.5 litres per 100km. Non hybrid. I do drive carefully but that's what I get . Doesn't seem to be a great difference between town driving and highway.
That's pretty good for a petrol, but not really impressive for a hybrid to be honest.
@@ValueCarsAU yes but the hybrid as I understand it, was designed for power assistance, rather than fuel economy.
Hi Dimitri
I am looking at buying a new car and would love your opinion on the best value for money car:
LDV D90 Executive (Petrol or Diesel?)
H6 GT Petrol
Tank 300 Petrol
Cannon X
Mostly to drive around the city with the occasional off road (nothing too crazy).
What matters to me is the general quality of the car.
Hi mate, you're looking at VERY different vehicles - in terms of what they are typically bought for. LDV D90 is a massive people mover SUV for the city, mostly. H6 GT is a fancier 5 seater. Tank 300 is an off-roader. Cannon X is a truck. 🤣 So, think about what you'll be using it for, and your budget. If you climb high into 40k range, why not also consider Japanese and Korean brands? Do you have a big family? So basically mate - you need to look at your options based on the amount of $$ you have to spend and your actual use-case. (and you can definitely rule out Cannon X as you're not a tradie, so just forget it).
I just saw your reply Dimitri - Thank you.
I am still hesitating but have ruled out the Tank due to the low payload.
D90 seems like excellent value for money being a 4x4 7 seaters.
Hybrid benefit is extra torque, not fuel efficiency for this vehicle. Does this actually translate to better off-road performance? Anyone?
No idea about off-road, but I'm yet to be convinced that even with those benefits the price tag of 61k makes this worth it. Not in my book. Better choices out there.
Other car reviews claim that the tank 300 electric is not worth the price stick to the 2lt turbo only problem it need’s premium fuel
The upfront cost is way too steep and the mother-in-law driver monitor would drive anyone nuts.
My tank 300 uses 91 unleaded
It's a shame the Tank series doesn't have diesel options😢
Completely agree. Diesel would IMMEDIATELY change the mind even of the most sceptical old-school Toyota owners 😉
I’m swimming in cash but I hate my mother in law, I feel I’m caught between a rock and a hard place
What do I do😂
You transfer cash you don't need to this account number... get a pen and paper, I'll wait... 🤣
Stop exceeding the speed limit FFS!! 😆
🤣🤣
Most annoying blinkers on the planet are in the tank .I didn’t want to buy it because of them .
I got used to the same system in Subaru - could have gotten used to the same in Tank... My problem with it, lack of space at the back and high depreciation.
you get use to them very fast.
@@ValueCarsAUthe tank was perfect for you I reckon after your used to driving jeep style cars up high I remember in your first videos 😊 I think your more suited my opinion
