    It might just be, as you stated, these Chinese brands don't wish to overlap their products with the established Japanese manufactures in Aust. But for the likes of GWM, they have a diesel already here, so why not at least make it a special order option for the Tank variants.

    • @4xTouring
      @4xTouring 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      It could also be they are keeping an eye on the expected Ute tax which will impact prices of SUVs from 2025. When this comes into effect the Tank500 might be a lot more price competitive.

    • @ValueCarsAU
      @ValueCarsAU  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I agree, they could have allowed for "special orders", absolutely. But as a mainstream rollout of a model in AU, their decision is clearly to stay out of Toyota's way (even if their vehicle looks like one of Toyota's...) and align with AU Govt directive towards alternative fuels.

    As an ex Toyota Manufacturing Manager the answer is very complex that most won’t actually know the reasons. But it will all make sense in the end and China are being very smart about this as per each car manufacturer around the globe. It simply comes down to the ever increasing emissions standards. Each combustion camber (cylinder) has an amount of emissions that can only be reduced to a point. A point we are currently at. Meaning, a simple and cheaper way is to reduce the number of cylinders and boost power with turbochargers and/or batteries. Think about AMG dropping V-6 and V-8 engines, America dropping most of their V-8 engines. If you simply half the number of cylinders you automatically half the numbers of the baseline emissions. Nothing to do with any consumer, nor car manufacturers, as it all comes down to creating greener engines that will pass emissions tests.

    • @ValueCarsAU
      @ValueCarsAU  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Very interesting and certainly sounds like this might be the real underlying cause, but I guess we'll never know for sure - because no one will officially tell us.

      @@BenMitro Not foreshadowing, it’s been happening for some time now. Take motorbikes as another example. Why do you think the inline 4’s are being replaced with 270 degree twins? Halves the emissions and they are cheaper to manufacture. It’s just that mainstream society doesn’t know why.

      @@BenMitro Happy to help! Just another reason why Supercars are moving away from additional cylinders for extra power and now using a hybrid set up with turbochargers to not only maximise power but also keep them passing emissions tests. Remember, these emissions tests will only get tougher in the future. I have no idea what Euro7 will bring apart from it being stricter again.

  • @keith6371
    @keith6371 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    I believe a V6 will be available in the future as GWM recently released a v6 in China. The problem is emissions and displacement taxes. Most countries have both, only countries like US has no displacement tax. Not sure if Australia does. I suspect Australia will have a pretty high emissions taxes at the very least so a hybrid is almost a must. Even Toyota is discontinuing v6s here in US.

    At least the Aust gov is rolling back the stringent CO² laws regarding sales of new cars ( the US is rolling back , so little brother Aust, copies )
    Toyota has been the least most enthusiastic about going full E.V, they know the public just doesn't want them.
    G.W.M rolled the dice bringing in the ute, and it worked ( albeit a small but growing number of units sold ) I feel they may need to fire and hire new Aust Management staff, as the headquarters are getting bad feedback.

    GWM is trying to change the market and making decisions on behalf of custmers. They should stop this and let customers decide for themselves. I was keen and was really serious about buying a Tank 500 or the new larger ute that's coming. But I will not even consider the hybrid. For a vehicle this size and weight, a 2.0L engine just does not cut it. If GWM refuses to bring in the V6 3.0L, in any of these new vehicles, then I'll go and get the Ford Ranger, even if I do pay more. I will not compromise with an underpowered engine for the sake of saving some money. Remember afterall, this is a Chinese made vehicle, and becuse of this you would expect to pay thousands less being chinese brand if its like for like with Ranger, Dmax, Hilux and even the new Triton (now 3.5T twoing capacity) but definitely NOT if its substandard in the engine department as well.

If the V6 does not sell and everyone want the small 2.0L then don't bring in the V6 anymore, but at least give us a chance to decide and don't decide for us.
