    Chapati and pilau (pulau) are staple East African dishes that did not originate in Africa but Africans embraced the dishes as their own. Tbh, a party without chapati and pilau is a meeting.

    You can tell (from the split-second expression on her face) that when Lizzie tasted Jawhara's Chapati, she realized that it tasted better than hers. After that immediate realization, she suddenly decided that she didn't like Jawhara's Chapati at all. Interesting . . .

    Ugandan chapati is a type of roti as they also mentioned in the vid but it’s actually closer to a Paratha. Paratha is typically a bit thicker than plain roti/Indian chapati and stuffed with different veggies. Can be potatoes, cauliflower and even Paneer (cottage cheese) I love seeing things make their way into other countries and cultures

    • @malekaius
      @malekaius ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Great comment. So I believe the chapati was introduced to East African cuisine through trade with India and that’s how South Asian cuisine found its way into Ugandan cuisine. However a big difference is Indian cuisine has different names for different types of flatbread. Paratha, roti, puri, bhakri, dosa, chila, batti, litti etc However in Ugandan cuisine, they are all called chapati.
      Potatoes, cauliflower or paneer wouldn’t be in a Ugandan chapati. At most, it would be onions and grated carrots

    • @momo-cchi5978
      @momo-cchi5978 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I was so confused cos in Somalia (we call it Kibis or Sabaayad) and Kenya it's a pan fried flad bread that we eat with other stuff like stews for lunch and dinner or tea and sugar/honey for breakfast. So, all this seasoning and vegetable talk had me wondering if we were talking about the same thing.

You are there to represent your culture and introduce us to your food, not act like chef ramsey only to end up having your food be rated low. Cmon guys, do better.
    Also, i don’t understand saying only nice things about someone’s chapati, only to rate it a 6 (but that may be affected by the editing)..

  • @KINGDOMDAUGHTER
    @KINGDOMDAUGHTER ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Chapati is a fav, it should be thin but not too thin, maybe a crepe thin, or roti thin; and any added veggies must be finely finely chopped to not detect the veggies. Plus colour, texture, taste, visual appearance of presentation are key elements
    All of them missed the mark big item, they need to call on the ancestors to help them in the kitchen or take a trip to the villages back home for a authentic refresher Chapati making
    Please have a rematch, but based on the comments from the tasters and the looks the gentleman was my pick to win, even when there was a few missteps
    Overall loving the segment and vibes
