Are Morocco and Tunisia really considered middle eastern countries? In my country middle East ends at Egypt and some wouldn't even count Egypt in.
Indeed, those are purely African countries.
I agree
North Africa and Southwest Asian countries in general are now grouped under MENA (Middle East North Africa). North African countries are overwhelmingly Arab dominated and are members of the Arab League, so they are generally treated separately from Sub-Saharan Africa. But yes, being on the continent of Africa and members of the OAU(Organization of African Unity) they are African. The media has its own terms, so Asian refers to East and Southeast Asians in general, India and the rest of her neighbors are Subcontinent or South Asian, Central Asians are the "Stans" and the rest in Arabia, Levant and Iran are Middle Eastern.
They count as Arab countries but definitely not Middle Eastern
In Brazil, Egypt, Tunisia and Morocco are in Africa.

i think the near east was just the old term for the middle east. (as far as i know) i grew up in the US and from what i've seen, the two terms are used interchangeably, but near east is more of an archaic term now. although both of them are pretty much eurocentric terms.
