The Unrigging of Drag Race All Stars 2

- One of RuPaul's Drag Race's most famous, controversial, and beloved seasons still wasn't without riggory, as we discussed in the Riggory of All Stars 2. Queens like Alaska and Katya were favored by the judges, while queens like Phi Phi O'Hara, Ginger Minj, and Tatianna were cast aside.
So in today's video, we're going to take a look at every episode of Drag Race All Stars 2 and determine how the show would have went if there was no rigging, and everything was fair. Are the Top 4 different? Are the challenge winners different? We're going to break it all down!

You’re definitely right about the tea with Tatiana thing. She was sent home on that because they thought it was a weak concept, and yet world of wonder picked it up into a series. I guess it wasn’t too weak of a concept for them to sell after all.
Same goes to Alyssa's Secret. They all hated it at first but it was one of the best from Wowpresent

You forgot that Ginger said she wasn't going to let them eliminate Katya. Imagine Alyssa pulling Katya's lipstick and Ginger stepping on the stage to take her place, that would have been a great tv moment.

This is the darkest timeline because of the loss of Katya early. No Krisis Kontrol, no alaska having a mental breakdown and going "Party" NO KATYA READ YOU WROTE U VERSE! I cant imagine a world like that.

Two biggest missed opportunities in AS2 was giving a PhiPhi win in lip sync against Alaska and chance to eliminate Alyssa, although they couldn't predict Alyssa's return later. And the other one is making Alaska to choose who to eliminate between Detox and Roxxxy.
Roxxy could've lived with her elemination - Detox would be VERY bitter.

You know, you always emphasize that a certain degree of rigging is necessary in reality TV, and this video perfectly shows why: because it's describing a world in which we didn't get "here to make it clear" and "your dad just calls me Katya." And frankly, that's not a world I want to live in. ^^

One of my pet peeves with All Stars 2 is Alaska not getting read for not fulfilling the assignment for the 2-in-1 runway.
She didn't have 2 looks. She just had a bunch of black fabric covering her and threw it away to reveal her 1 and only look.
Even Jasmine Masters' cocoon was more of a look than the fabric covering Alaska's Lil' Poudcake outfit.
That, to me, would have cost her the top 2 spot without a doubt if we're imagining a season without riggory.
i agree that she should have been read more for her look but i don’t think it would have cost her the top 2 spot since she was still by far the best in the actual challenge. phi phi was the only other queen who i think actually excelled at the acting challenge. detox and katya were fine but i can’t see either of them bumping alaska out of the top 2

am i the only one that thought tatianna SHOULD'VE definitely been in the top for the marketing episode with her tea kit? her runway was great and i really enjoyed her ad, plus it would've been a killer hit at dragcon.

This was a really interesting video. I mostly agree with it, but I don't know, it would've been so unfair for Katya to be eliminated on a challenge where she was given a really hard character to make funny.
Weird to say this as I normally dislike rigging but I'm happy Katya stayed.
i don't think alyssa and alaska would win the stand up challenge if it had been judged fairly. they didn't really do a stand up routine, alaska asked alyssa a question, she said an alyssa catchphrase and alaska made a comment.

This isn’t about judging fairly. This is about non-rigging. The point of the standup challenges isn’t who can write the smartest jokes. It’s who can get the most laughs and alyssa being alyssa is hilarious and it had the panel dying. They would’ve run regardless

If Ginger would be low on the acting challenge because of the runway, Alaska couldn't be top 2, as her look wasn't even within the theme
Yeah, i think their just a big Alaska fan bc ive seen green gay giving alaska alot of grace in this and other vids too. I agree though
I gotta say in all-stars I prefer to have a bottom 3 over btm2. Just because it makes the choice less obvious and keeps us, viewers, actually interested in the result. I hate it when they do a btm2 with an obvious frontrunner and an obvious out, like in as4 Monique and Farrah and then Valentina and Gia or Rajah and Akeria in as6. And when we had a bottom 4 of Jan, Ginger, Silky and Akeria - that was interesing, i really had no idea who would go.
Unpopular opinion: Rotox's snatch game was worst than Tati's
Roxxxy's was. Detox had a few chuckles and had more interactions with other characters., which along with their runway, would have saved them.
If Roxxxy had chosen Sofia Vergara instead of Alaska, she would have been safe.

I highkey think there should be a set time when the queens can't be cast on all stars after their season. Like you said, Katya and Ginger did not have enough time to prepare for this and that's just unfair towards them
Trueeee but if Katya wasn’t on AS2, it wouldn’t have been as good as it was. I’m not a cult crazy fan but she was one of the reasons this season is so good, and loved by most.
Then 1 of 2 things happen and both aren’t good: 1. Katya maybe comes back on a later all stars, which I don’t think I’d ever want to know what that looks like when 2 was just SO GOOD to and with her or 2. She just never does all stars, which I think would’ve been the case. She’d still be a top fan fave, still rise in fame with Trixie and after S7, and she hated competing. She literally never wants to go back lol. So I do agree queens coming right out of their season should wait a cycle for All Stars and maybe production shouldn’t be able to consider them, there’s SO MANY queens I’m happy to have back so quick (Monet, Monique, Chad, Latrice etc)
I think Ginger did an incredible job in the performance of Herstery Of The World. That looked really tanked her.
for the rusical episode, i think a lot of people overlook the fact that katya having princess diana was riggory in itself - making that performance campy or funny in any way would've got katya in such hot water with the british public (and the global public) that it would've haunted her forever, and therefore katya had no cHoice as to whether she could make it more performancey
And then, while everyone else was given fun, campy moments on stage, she was planted up front and given practically no choreo. She was never going to do well.
Sadly you can’t change the lip stick choices but some of the lip sync winners can be changed
Definitely a more challenging season for Alaska BUT the drama and wildness is what made AS2 so gaggy! I just wish there was a reality where Tatianna gets a verse 💀

This season you imagined still feels rigged.
For instance, in the Rusical, Katya was given unfunny lyrics, no props, and a role that could easily have had her cancelled depending and what she did with it.
You said that she didn't do as good as the others, and that her performance felt flat.
But you failed to acknowledge that most of her "failure" was due to things that weren't in her control.
You judged on the premise that she had the same chances of success as the others, when she was at a clear disadvantage from the get-go.
Here are a couple of things I think would have made your judgment of the Rusical more fair:
- Weigh in the runway more than the challenge itself.
- Imagine a different role for Katya (Sharon Stone, for instance) and, based on her performances in similar challenges, say how you think things would have gone.
The only thing im kind of disagreeing is for the shequel challenge. To me, Ginger would do as good as Alaska. And to me, their runway would have been equally as bad like alaska just pull out Lil pound cake without a real reveal. She should have been critiqued on that. So maybe a top two of both of them so. Or idk. Didnt like Detox's runway as well.
Alaska's looks were kinda basic, but not ugly. Ginger's looks were basic and ugly
@@paologarcia7573 If we are fair, Alaska had like 2-3 years post drag race to make some coins and fashion choices. Ginger and Katya didnt have that priviledge and were being judge pretty harshly compared to Alaska, who had some time and monney..

Girl... episode 4? Alaska wouldn't be on the top 2 with that One-in-One look if the season was fair, even doing well on the challenge

When this cast was released I wanted the top 5 to be Adore, Tati, Alyssa, PhiPhi, and Katya so bad . I wanted Tati to win!
I still don’t think Alaska should win the drag shequels because of that 1 runway look. Since she completely just didn’t fill out the assignment for the runway category she shouldn’t be given a win, she would still be high though.

Soooo, the thing with Ginger is she was not in the right headspace at this time. Producers had pressured her to shoot AS2 because they basically implied to her that this might be the last All Stars so she should get on immediately. Also I think this was the time that she got divorced/was having marital issues. If she had stayed over Katya, I don't think she would go that far because she was not the same Ginger that slayed Season 7. I guess it was "destiny" for her to be an early out on AS2 because she did end up doing AS6 where she did so much better
This is kinda like your video on What If Season 10 wasn't rigged and Mayhem magically slays and reaches Top 5..... like no that's not possible
Katya getting eliminated early, in a challenge where the odds were stacked against her..... yeah that won't cut it. Bottom two that episode should be Alaska and Ginger
Agreed like there was no way she was gonna win, the choreo she was given was not that great and he the others had ppl that I can’t really remember what they look like so everyone else was up for interpretation
Ginger was excellent in the challenge though. To me her look was a hot mess, but should she have been in the bottom? I don't think.

You should watch that challenge again cuz Ginger SLAYED. Her runway was shit but like let’s not act like a bad runway outweighs a really good performance in the main challenge.

This is great but the only thing I would disagree with is between Phi Phi and Alyssa. Phi Phi only hated Alyssa bc she wasn't going off judges critiques bc she saved Katya instead of Ginger in the actual episode therefor not playing fairly, whereas in this version Alyssa bases her decision on both track record as well as judges critiques to send home Katya. Therefor, I don't think Phi Phi would have had any issues with Alyssa's decision and there wouldn't have been this disagreement between them
Well... Playing "fair" in a competition where you have every choice to decide your possible competition would mean to eliminate those who you know are strong and keep the weaker ones.
Everytime people say "make a fair decision" I wonder: why not say "make a decision I like" As that phrase indicates.
Would I've hated Katya being eliminated? Yes. Would she pose a threat to Alyssa? Yes. Therefore: fair in my book.

As much as I would love to see ginger be on the top4 I believe she would still do poorly, since, and I believe im not mistaken, she was going through some personal stuff right before as2 (on top of having virtually no time to prepare for the season)

I do love Katya but at the time I was really kinda upset that Ginger was eliminated instead of her... it was the obvious choice since Katya is so loved, but Ginger did well and imo neither of their outfits were better than the other

Tbh, on the lipsyncs with Alaska she consistently broke the rules of 'Drag is not a contact sport'(grabbing Katya, Licking Katya, Humping Phi Phi), so honestly I think she wouldn't get any of these Lip Sync wins that she normally had received.

Yeah in terms of Ginger being Eliminated over Katya it really boiled down to the fact that the fans love Katya and Ginger at least at the time was not well liked. I love Katya but that's clearly why they kept her on cause Ginger was objectively much better then her in the performance.

Phi Phi had a problem with Alyssa because she eliminated Ginger instead of Katya, Phi Phi called this unfair, on this scenario that never happened, so why Phi Phi would like to eliminate Alyssa over Roxxxy?

Ginger making top 4 and not getting robbed makes sense with my fantasy. It would suck to lose Katya so early though, I'd prefer a double save even though that wouldn't make sense.

I think there is actually a good chance Alyssa could win here. She has never fallen below safe apart from when she went home, and she didn't miss any episodes as she came straight back...Alaska would've been in the bottom twice, not won as many lip-syncs and her attitude could've been taken into account...
Also, in this season, Ginger seemed more cut-throat. I think if she had won her lip-sync in E6 (as you said), she would've eliminated the stronger competition, so in that episode Detox...Then the top two the next week would probably be Alyssa and Tatianna again, Tatianna wins and I don't know....would she get revenge on Alaska or vote out Roxxxy?
I feel like since it was such a close call between Katya and Alaska, and Alyssa already knew how difficult it was competing against Rolaskatox in S5, that she may have sent home Alaska instead.

I would have done it as originally aired, except at the commercial challenge, Roxxxy would get sent home by Katya. Tatianna did ok, Detox had the worst commercial but a better track record. After that the 4th and 5th spots could be interchangeable between Alyssa and Tatiana; I don't think it would matter because a returning queen has no chance of winning, although I'm curious how each of them would have written their verses.
In a more fair world, the winner would be between Detox and Katya; if Phi Phi had won Got to be Real and Katya had won Cherry Bomb, then Alaska wouldn't have had such a padded track record. I would have personally preferred Katya, because her verse is more iconic and she is the fan favorite, but I wouldn't be mad if Detox won.
Katya said on Hey Queen that around the time of the podcast episode Alaska told her "have fun with a hundred thousand" because Alaska believed Katya would win it all

In all honesty, I disagree with quite a bit of this xD
Episodes:
1. Totally agree. Although I do think PhiPhi engaged with he audience more than Ginger did.
2. Totally agree except for PhiPhi being high. Alyssa was just funnier for me and didn't re-use jokes during the game. Also I found it very interesting that during the lipsync, Katya's screen-time was significantly less that Alaska's, but whatever.
3. This episode was disgustingly unfair for multiple queens. Heavy riggory. But Ginger was no better than Katya or Alaska. Ginger was played dirty on this season with little screen-time and random negative critiques for no reason. Also, I would give Detox's top 2 placement to PhiPhi as PhiPhi was present in character the whole time and nailed her performance more so imo.
4. I may be the only one who thinks this but for me, Detox and Katya were top two this episode. Their sketch was hilarious and as a team challenge, they were better overall. Or at least Detox in the top insttead of random Alaska who did well, but wasn't that memorable. PhiPhi won the lipsync tho.
5. Totally agree. The perfection of this episode seems to god to be true. First time Roxxxy should be eliminated.
6. Katya would still be in the competition for me and would be high with Alaska. However, again Katya's screen-time for this lipsync was so much less than Alaska's. I wonder why. Tatiana's was a good commercial and I will die on that hill. Definitely should not have been sent home for that. Second time Roxxxy should be eliminated.
7. Katya and Detox in the top for me, Tatiana, Alaska and Roxxxy in the bottom. Roxxxy should be gone by now anyway. (Saved three times though somehow). However, agree that Alyssa should never have been eliminated this episode.
8. Difficult choice for the win, between Katya or Alaska but it would have been amazing with Alyssa in the finale too.

For me on the musical Katya should be safe because she didn't do bad her role was horribly boring compared to Detox and Alysa, they roles was literally joke after joke after joke, Alaska should be in the bottom for sure because she messed up so many times, Ginger didin't do bad either, is hard to think who should be in the bottom with Alaska but if we decided based on the runway is Ginger or at leas thas my personal opinion.
Adore should 100% return to AS7 because she is doing so much better now
I think it would’ve been interesting if on snatch game they based who got sent home on track record and then sent Detox home.
Alyssa would have sent home Alaska imo, she knows she is huge competition. I also think Alaska would not have been top 2 in episode 4 due to her look not being 2 in 1.

Well, it was pretty much an “Extra Lap for Alaska” season, much in the same way AS1 was always meant for Chad Michaels. Of course Alaska wins in all scenarios - that was the point.
What were Adore's personal struggles does anyone know? That's really sad to hear. I hope she's OK now.
This is so fun to watch!! The only thing I would change in my scenario lol would be detox would choose ginger to go home and not Tati in the second to last episode. The reason I say this because I would feel that detox and Tati would have a closer relationship especially since they were a team in the comedy challenge and they seemed to vibe well with each other.
That would make a top four of Alaska, Tati, Alyssa, and Detox. I do think Tati may struggle here and would be cut from the top 3.

Ginger and Detox actually have a good friendship, in fact Ginger goes way back with Detox, Roxxxy and Coco in Florida and I think they knew her just when she was starting to do drag. It might not be as easy a decision as it seems for Detox.
I think that in this scenario in the TOP5, Detox would eliminate Ginger and keep Tatianna because they were friends and she also brought her back into the competition. I also think with Ginger being read for her runway for the third time in this scenario, this would be easy justification.
Ginger and Detox actually have a good friendship, in fact Ginger goes way back with Detox, Roxxxy and Coco in Florida and I think they knew her just when she was starting to do drag. It might not be as easy a decision as it seems for Detox.
Alyssa should have won AS2 in all realities and universes, maybe Detox if she had had the courage Naomi had.
I think this is a fun format, but I think it would be more alluring to see it from a “fairness” and “production” stand point equally. Would love to see your opinion on what would be within a ~scope~ of fairness but also the best production. It’s TV. We need both, because we can fight about what’s fair all we want but we, seemingly, can all agree on what story would have been best told. For example, Ginger sending Roxxxy home is kind of blasé.
Also maybe a little too producer-y but I think based on how she was acting in ep1-3 I think Ginger probably falls victim to the Allstars Jan treatment from fans and production in this scenario. Without being robbed she would seemingly get a villain/delusion edit and then gets sliced at the end by Ru before the finale. And then we don’t get to see her fully carried in AS6....

Its not really correct English but its a bit more common within American English as in the uk we wouldn't say should have went when referring to someone leaving

"how all stars 2 should have went" is the correct formulation, because "went" is used in the sense of "happening", while "should have GONE" is primarly used in the sense of "going from one place to another". I didn't watch the vid yet so I just guessed you were asking about that lmao, if not I'm sorry
It's funny how Ginger would probably have the same run as Katya, with the only difference being the makeover. Since I love Katya, I would probably favor her a little bit and put her as low in the Rusical and Ginger in the bottom. I know it's not fair, your video is pretty on point in terms of fairness, I just wouldn't be ready to see Katya going so soon.

I think Alaska was the best and would've been the best without riggory, but the fact that she was favoured through the season still bothers me to this day.
Alyssa deserved top 3 on Snatch game, not Phi Phi. And indeed would have been happy to see Alaska out on ep3, because it was unfair especially from Michelle (the worst judge ever) to expect a 20 foot train while performing princess Diana.

If Katya would have been eliminated this early I would have stopped watching the moment she's eliminated and not even look at the rest of the season
