I find it interesting that you say that Rolaskatox is what made this season as good as it was when I personally found their clique to be the most frustrating/unwatchable aspect of AS2. There is no denying that AS2 is peak Drag Race and a total game-changer, and the end result of Rolaskatox competing together is iconic. (I mean, Read U Wrote U is *EVERYTHING* ) But watching queens who didn't deserve to go home get thrown under the bus (pun intended) week after week because of the trio of friends from S5 was painful.

I agree. Shut Up And Drive was the season's one great moment. I ended up liking Alyssa Edwards and Tatiana more, and Alaska less. While Detox foolishly clung to the alliance when she really didn't need to- Roxxy underperformed and was protected right up to the end. Not my favorite AS by far.

That was something no other queen had to worry about. And as you said, she had one of the worst lyrics and there was literally nothing she could do to make it funny. And not only that, but trying to make too much could have seen as disrespectful do Diana and her family. That's another thing no other queen had to worry about. And I think it was unfair for Katya to be in the bottom because of her dress/wig during the rusical and because she wasn't able to make a princess who died in a car crash funny. To me this kind of challenge is always unfair, because some queens get a clear advantage with the role they get, and it was worst in this case, because the roles were assigned by production.
I absolutely agree that Katya shouldn't have been critiqued on historical accuracy. I mean just Michelle's comment about wanting the train didn't make sense. How on earth could anyone (not just Katya, not even Brooke Lynn could pull it off) have done a group dance number in a gown with a full train on that size stage? That's not possible. And as someone who grew up in Ohio (where she's from) and obsessed with her as a kid, I have seen tons of pictures of Annie Oakley. Alyssa looked NOTHING like her. She's brunette for one, not blonde. Her hair didn't have tons of volume like that. She didn't wear animal print. Her dresses came to mid-calf. Her gun was a long barrel shot gone, not a pistol. Did Alyssa take the vague concept and drag it to hell in a way that ultimately worked? Sure. But it's not accurate. Do I think Katya's outfit or wig were good? Honestly, no I don't. But complaining about the accuracy of it...destroys the point of doing campy drag to me? And is something that couldn't have been done in the challenge for Princess Di, at least in her wedding gown. So..what's the point?

I’m sorry but I completely disagree with saying that there’s no riggery in the eliminations. We all know now that Ru is made aware of who each queen chose. There is no way that little bit of knowledge never influenced Ru’s decision. Not to mention, who’s to say that the queens even choose which lipstick? It’s completely possible, and likely tbh, that some top queens have been swayed by the producers a time or two.
Alaska DID NOT win the Cherry Bomb lip sync. She only won cause Katya had Roxxy's lipstick. The producers absolutely rigged it to make sure Rolaskatox made it to the final 4. Then once again take one of them out by a quirky queen. The only difference is they gave it Alaska.

The issue I take with Alaska winning isn't that she did poorly (though truly some of her challenge wins were just given to her ) it's that she said point blank that she would bribe the other queens with her winnings if she could stay. I think if that had happened in any other season then the queen would have been given the boot

Not 3, but cherry bomb hands down (not only she performed better than her opponent, but also did so through the disruption). The other two.. I dunno. In the makeover episode it was her vs Detox's left buttcheek and right buttcheek, which is an uphill battle. They were both funny, performed well and I would have them both win, but if I'm forced to pick just one, it's Detox's win by a slim crack size margin. E2 lipsync could go either way, but Alaska forcibly disrupted her opponent which should disqualify her from winning this lipsync, leaving Katya as a winner by default

Could you examine riggory of the older seasons, because after rewatching the older ones there is still obvious riggory that took place then too, and I feel like it's overlooked due to it being more "obvious" now.
It's still in my mind during the boat challenge on S4 where Billy B (arguably the worst judge on Drag Race with Santino) said that Milan's was selfish and shameful when she did it about peace and harmony basically (if I remember) and Willam (who just put faces of herself on the boat) looked really pretty and had a great boat. While Willam deserved the win, it's so clear sometimes when the judges want a certain contestant out. The most imo would be Shuga during that magic challenge, but the example from S4 is always in my mind.

I just watched All Stars 2 for the first time and they edited Phi Phi so dirty. She gave her competitors advice that didn't always work out and they acted like Phi Phi was a master manipulator when she wasn't. It seems to be that the "villain edit" actually just comes from making people look bad for being stressed

People praise her Snatch Game and I still don't know why; besides the look and the 1000000 "wire hanger" reference there was nothing Joan Crawford about it but somehow people say it's good. Raja's kiss of death was ok because they both were challenging each other and giving each other cues during the performance. It was interactive. Mimi's thing was not okay, but the community tends to forget how messy some of the lipsyncs were on that season. Watch Venus, then talk about Mimi. However, if a queen physically interacts with the other queen only to disrupt her, the rule should apply. Thus, regardless of how legendary Alaska is, she should have lost all of her competitive lipsyncs on AS2. Her wins in those performances are the clearest instance of favoritism.

Rolaskatox was probably the worst thing this season had to offer. While Alaska claimed it “wasn’t in full effect” it was clear it was when it came to eliminations, how they always saved Roxxxy, and they let her cruise to the finals even though she stayed in the bottom. We all know that Alyssa should’ve been in the finals instead of Roxxxy.

Ru knows which queen has which lipstick so if there are conflicting lipsticks (like in ep1) production can choose who to send home if the two queens had okay/equally good lipsyncs. I think this was the case w coco/phiphi bc as soon as they learned that coco and alyssa made amends they were like BYEEEE
I think AS2 works because it's based on S5 which was great, but with queens that are already familiar. We had the 2 most prominent storylines from S5 again: - The Rolaskatox vs Weirdo/Underdog story - The Alyssa vs another queen Based on that, Rolaskatox were obviously going to be together, I think Katya is the obvious choice for weirdo but Adore fits the criteria as well, her different style and previous underdog story fits the mold of Jinkx, and both, Katya and Adore, were huge fan favorites. For the other story arc, Alyssa and Coco were casted because of their rivalry/connection. Phi Phi, Ginger and Tatianna were the obvious cannon fodder.
So here's the thing - maybe it was Alaska breaking down or not , but starting with the cherry bomb lip synch to her behaviour when she was in the bottom - That. Was. So. Unprofessional. I don't personally adore her drag style, but offering money around to not get eliminated? I mean I cannot... Katya absolutely wanted to get distance from her in the cherry bomb lipsync, but Alaska didn't care. for me that is such a huuuuuuge deal-breaker.. it's like Tyra Sanchez, it's not the way I want a winner that represents the show to behave... one of the reasons I wish Katya would have win because she became a better person and professional towards the end.. or is it just me?
For episode 4 Detox should have been in the top instead of Alaska because Alaska’s runway was terrible and not 2 in 1 so it didn’t answer the assignment.

i hate that from this season on the lipsyncs where mostly comedy, and while yes sometimes it´s nice to have a laugh i found so so anoying that every single time Alaska was performing she made comedy, even if the song had no room for that, and since she won everytime she did that in next seasons of all star the queens took the lipsyncs as a fight to see who make Ru laugh more, that kind act of ruins the lipsync importance, that is why i'm so glad in the new seasons they changed it. sorry if this is difficult to read english is my second language :p

If you read Alaska’s book, Alaska herself says that before she got to Allstars III everyone was telling her that she was supposed to win the season. So clearly they pick the winner ahead of time
i will agree, much as i love Katya, that i dont think she would’ve been crowned, not against Alaska. i think if it was only down to her vs Detox, she might’ve had a stronger case but even then im not sure her track record wouldnt have flicked the crown off her head either. but she certainly got positioned to be the fan favorite the longer that Rolaskatox reigned over the lipstick decisions.
My biggest issue with the Cherry Bomb lip sync and where Katya should have won was where Alaska gets right up to her and licks her face which is very violating and breaches the no contact rule (especially when Katya wasn't doing anything to her).
I always thought that the makeover challenge in this was a weird one. The placements were basically decided on who brought their own looks vs who made their own. Love Detox but she literally wore a Marco Marco dress while Roxxxy made hers on the spot
I think Alaska definitely deserved to win. Yes there was favoritism, but you can't deny she played the game and played it well. She still shouldn't have won the Cherry Bomb lipsync though.

Thank you. This is what I have always thought. Even if you don’t subscribe to the “drag is not a contact sport” philosophy, you cannot tell me that Alaska out lipsynced Katya that time. Plus, she was all over Katya in a very uncomfortable way, even before she licked her which is disgusting.
Even if rigged this was the best season of Drag Race ever (so far, because AS6 could soon take it's place in the top if it keeps slaying every episode).
I definitely think the crown could have gone to either Katya or Detox because Alaska had that tantrum. It did so much more than “complete her story arc”. It allowed the excuse of either of the top 3 winning. It allowed everything to feel more organic, and seem that the competition wasnt set up for her if she could go home at the drop of a dime. It really helped seal the deal with everything, not just her own story arc.
The note about how many they put in the bottom made the riggory feel so clear in Eureka's favour in the latest episode of AS6 - she could have easily been in the bottom 3 up for elimination, but Ru recided that week should only be a bottom 2. Not that she isn't fierce, but I feel things like this make it clear certain queens are set up to go far regardless
Anyone else feeling like All Stars 6 is becoming the best season of All Stars, behind season 2? I have been loving it! But I'm not sure anything will really beat season 2.
Alaska should’ve been in the bottom for the Herstory challenge and the 2-in-1 look. Roxxxy should’ve gone home a long time ago. We all know Alaska kept Roxxxy around because it guaranteed her a spot in the top 3, since Roxxxy wasn’t a threat, being in the bottom every week.
One thing I will say against the thought that the lipsticks weren't riggory was that Katya has mentioned somewhere that in the episode where Alyssa went home she knew she wasn't going to win the lipsync because the producers knew her liptick was for Roxxy. Though she also says somewhere else that she didn't know the words to the song they were doing so who knows lol
I honestly never got the hype around AS2. Yes it’s really good but there’s some glaring issues with it imo, mainly the cast having so many season 5 girls who obviously wouldn’t vote for each other, and how the show treats PhiPhi on the season just always makes me extremely uncomfortable.

I joined the fandom on the day s8 finale was out and i fell in love instantly lol. The as2 was out in a month or two and by that time i watched all seasons in reverse. That's why i didn't even realise Katya and Ginger were literally fresh off the season, like Jan was lol still they were killers in as2

I truly don’t believe detox had any chance to win out of the top three she had the second best track record but the people she went against had bigger fan bases like Katya,Alaska and Alyssa had better chances than she did
The first time a winner was not the person with the most maxi challenge wins was on season 9,and then all stars 3 with trixie.The Logo era always crowned the obvious choices as winners. And in this season it was alaska.i don t think that katya actually deserved her top 2 placements that much tho,like that makeover was not groundbreaking or anything😂 in all stars 4 she would have been in the bottom

I think the Herstory of the World winners should have been Alyssa and Roxxxy, actually. Detox had the same line over and over again and wore harsh neon colors as Marie Antionette, which wasn’t a thing back then. Roxxxy looked the part and had a bit of choreography, more so than Detox, so I think she should have been a joint winner with Alyssa.
Honestly, Alaska and Alyssa's comedy set was not funny at all. Ginger and Katya did better, but they wanted to bring Alyssa anyway, so they edited it in a gentle manner. Obviously it was the right decision, but rigged anyway.
I always find myself thinking about random drag race things and how things could have gone differently in certain challenges or what queens could have changed to do better. I think about Katya’s Diana a lot and so far the only thing that’s come into my mind to make the performance better would be if at the part where she goes from sweet to more sexy Katya had done a reveal into Diana’s iconic revenge dress. I think a reveal into a more sexy black dress and then just amping up the sexiness of her movements would have shown a good contrast, been a surprise to the judges, and made her part more interesting. Just a thought though
Same, I am way late to drag race only started watching it at the end of last year but through getting into it I kept seeing the name phi phi and by the time I watched s4 I was expecting phi phi to be bad and Yh she was in s4 but not as bad as I thought tho and when when I watched as2 was expecting her to be as bad as I saw how she hadn’t changed but it was all from all the other queens saying a narrative that I couldn’t see🤷🏼♀️

i agree with the placements, but i dont think alaska deserved to win any of her lip syncs since there is only one major rule to lip syncing on drag race, drag is not a contact sport. and alaska made non-consensual physical contact with every queen she was in a lipsync in. she licked katya’s face just to throw her of her game in cherry bomb
Several things: 1) Coco deserved better. 2) Detox deserved to be in the bottom for her lackluster commercial and poorly-made product, while Tatianna deserved a high placement. 3) Alaska deserved her challenge wins and the crown, but her lip sync wins against Phi Phi and Katya (Cherry Bomb) were VERY questionable.

I find it interesting that you say that Rolaskatox is what made this season as good as it was when I personally found their clique to be the most frustrating/unwatchable aspect of AS2. There is no denying that AS2 is peak Drag Race and a total game-changer, and the end result of Rolaskatox competing together is iconic. (I mean, Read U Wrote U is *EVERYTHING* ) But watching queens who didn't deserve to go home get thrown under the bus (pun intended) week after week because of the trio of friends from S5 was painful.

I agree. Shut Up And Drive was the season's one great moment. I ended up liking Alyssa Edwards and Tatiana more, and Alaska less. While Detox foolishly clung to the alliance when she really didn't need to- Roxxy underperformed and was protected right up to the end. Not my favorite AS by far.

And as you said, she had one of the worst lyrics and there was literally nothing she could do to make it funny. And not only that, but trying to make too much could have seen as disrespectful do Diana and her family. That's another thing no other queen had to worry about.
And I think it was unfair for Katya to be in the bottom because of her dress/wig during the rusical and because she wasn't able to make a princess who died in a car crash funny. To me this kind of challenge is always unfair, because some queens get a clear advantage with the role they get, and it was worst in this case, because the roles were assigned by production.
I absolutely agree that Katya shouldn't have been critiqued on historical accuracy. I mean just Michelle's comment about wanting the train didn't make sense. How on earth could anyone (not just Katya, not even Brooke Lynn could pull it off) have done a group dance number in a gown with a full train on that size stage? That's not possible.
And as someone who grew up in Ohio (where she's from) and obsessed with her as a kid, I have seen tons of pictures of Annie Oakley. Alyssa looked NOTHING like her. She's brunette for one, not blonde. Her hair didn't have tons of volume like that. She didn't wear animal print. Her dresses came to mid-calf. Her gun was a long barrel shot gone, not a pistol. Did Alyssa take the vague concept and drag it to hell in a way that ultimately worked? Sure. But it's not accurate.
Do I think Katya's outfit or wig were good? Honestly, no I don't. But complaining about the accuracy of it...destroys the point of doing campy drag to me? And is something that couldn't have been done in the challenge for Princess Di, at least in her wedding gown. So..what's the point?

I’m sorry but I completely disagree with saying that there’s no riggery in the eliminations. We all know now that Ru is made aware of who each queen chose. There is no way that little bit of knowledge never influenced Ru’s decision. Not to mention, who’s to say that the queens even choose which lipstick? It’s completely possible, and likely tbh, that some top queens have been swayed by the producers a time or two.
But, Ru choose the bottoms BEFORE the queens pick lipsticks. So it's ultimately out of her an the producers hands

The issue I take with Alaska winning isn't that she did poorly (though truly some of her challenge wins were just given to her ) it's that she said point blank that she would bribe the other queens with her winnings if she could stay. Not 3, but cherry bomb hands down (not only she performed better than her opponent, but also did so through the disruption). The other two.. I dunno. In the makeover episode it was her vs Detox's left buttcheek and right buttcheek, which is an uphill battle. They were both funny, performed well and I would have them both win, but if I'm forced to pick just one, it's Detox's win by a slim crack size margin.
E2 lipsync could go either way, but Alaska forcibly disrupted her opponent which should disqualify her from winning this lipsync, leaving Katya as a winner by default

Could you examine riggory of the older seasons, because after rewatching the older ones there is still obvious riggory that took place then too, and I feel like it's overlooked due to it being more "obvious" now.
It's still in my mind during the boat challenge on S4 where Billy B (arguably the worst judge on Drag Race with Santino) said that Milan's was selfish and shameful when she did it about peace and harmony basically (if I remember) and Willam (who just put faces of herself on the boat) looked really pretty and had a great boat. While Willam deserved the win, it's so clear sometimes when the judges want a certain contestant out. The most imo would be Shuga during that magic challenge, but the example from S4 is always in my mind.

People praise her Snatch Game and I still don't know why; besides the look and the 1000000 "wire hanger" reference there was nothing Joan Crawford about it but somehow people say it's good. Raja's kiss of death was ok because they both were challenging each other and giving each other cues during the performance. It was interactive. Mimi's thing was not okay, but the community tends to forget how messy some of the lipsyncs were on that season. Watch Venus, then talk about Mimi.
However, if a queen physically interacts with the other queen only to disrupt her, the rule should apply. Thus, regardless of how legendary Alaska is, she should have lost all of her competitive lipsyncs on AS2. Her wins in those performances are the clearest instance of favoritism.

Rolaskatox was probably the worst thing this season had to offer. While Alaska claimed it “wasn’t in full effect” it was clear it was when it came to eliminations, how they always saved Roxxxy, and they let her cruise to the finals even though she stayed in the bottom. We all know that Alyssa should’ve been in the finals instead of Roxxxy.

i agree that adore shouldnt have been in the bottom, and she was ABSOLUTELY torn to shreds. at this point i think maybe they had to show how much harder allstars was supposed to be and they needed to really critique someone hard to show this to the queens. maybe adore was picked because she did so well on her season and they needed to set an example.
Ru knows which queen has which lipstick so if there are conflicting lipsticks (like in ep1) production can choose who to send home if the two queens had okay/equally good lipsyncs. I think this was the case w coco/phiphi bc as soon as they learned that coco and alyssa made amends they were like BYEEEE
Rupaul knows what lipstick each queen has, so the outcomes can definitely be rigged
I think AS2 works because it's based on S5 which was great, but with queens that are already familiar. We had the 2 most prominent storylines from S5 again:
- The Rolaskatox vs Weirdo/Underdog story
- The Alyssa vs another queen
Based on that, Rolaskatox were obviously going to be together, I think Katya is the obvious choice for weirdo but Adore fits the criteria as well, her different style and previous underdog story fits the mold of Jinkx, and both, Katya and Adore, were huge fan favorites. For the other story arc, Alyssa and Coco were casted because of their rivalry/connection.
Phi Phi, Ginger and Tatianna were the obvious cannon fodder.
So here's the thing - maybe it was Alaska breaking down or not , but starting with the cherry bomb lip synch to her behaviour when she was in the bottom - That. Was. So. Unprofessional. I don't personally adore her drag style, but offering money around to not get eliminated? I mean I cannot... Katya absolutely wanted to get distance from her in the cherry bomb lipsync, but Alaska didn't care. for me that is such a huuuuuuge deal-breaker.. it's like Tyra Sanchez, it's not the way I want a winner that represents the show to behave... one of the reasons I wish Katya would have win because she became a better person and professional towards the end.. or is it just me?

i hate that from this season on the lipsyncs where mostly comedy, and while yes sometimes it´s nice to have a laugh i found so so anoying that every single time Alaska was performing she made comedy, even if the song had no room for that, and since she won everytime she did that in next seasons of all star the queens took the lipsyncs as a fight to see who make Ru laugh more, that kind act of ruins the lipsync importance, that is why i'm so glad in the new seasons they changed it.

i will agree, much as i love Katya, that i dont think she would’ve been crowned, not against Alaska. i think if it was only down to her vs Detox, she might’ve had a stronger case but even then im not sure her track record wouldnt have flicked the crown off her head either. but she certainly got positioned to be the fan favorite the longer that Rolaskatox reigned over the lipstick decisions.
My biggest issue with the Cherry Bomb lip sync and where Katya should have won was where Alaska gets right up to her and licks her face which is very violating and breaches the no contact rule (especially when Katya wasn't doing anything to her).
I always thought that the makeover challenge in this was a weird one. The placements were basically decided on who brought their own looks vs who made their own. Love Detox but she literally wore a Marco Marco dress while Roxxxy made hers on the spot

Thank you. This is what I have always thought. Even if you don’t subscribe to the “drag is not a contact sport” philosophy, you cannot tell me that Alaska out lipsynced Katya that time. Plus, she was all over Katya in a very uncomfortable way, even before she licked her which is disgusting.
Even if rigged this was the best season of Drag Race ever (so far, because AS6 could soon take it's place in the top if it keeps slaying every episode).
I definitely think the crown could have gone to either Katya or Detox because Alaska had that tantrum. It did so much more than “complete her story arc”. It allowed the excuse of either of the top 3 winning. It allowed everything to feel more organic, and seem that the competition wasnt set up for her if she could go home at the drop of a dime. It really helped seal the deal with everything, not just her own story arc.
I’m the finale she wasn’t “robbed” but I do think if there was less favoritism through the season she could have won.
The note about how many they put in the bottom made the riggory feel so clear in Eureka's favour in the latest episode of AS6 - she could have easily been in the bottom 3 up for elimination, but Ru recided that week should only be a bottom 2. Not that she isn't fierce, but I feel things like this make it clear certain queens are set up to go far regardless

Anyone else feeling like All Stars 6 is becoming the best season of All Stars, behind season 2? I have been loving it! But I'm not sure anything will really beat season 2.
Alaska should’ve been in the bottom for the Herstory challenge and the 2-in-1 look. Roxxxy should’ve gone home a long time ago. We all know Alaska kept Roxxxy around because it guaranteed her a spot in the top 3, since Roxxxy wasn’t a threat, being in the bottom every week.
One thing I will say against the thought that the lipsticks weren't riggory was that Katya has mentioned somewhere that in the episode where Alyssa went home she knew she wasn't going to win the lipsync because the producers knew her liptick was for Roxxy. Though she also says somewhere else that she didn't know the words to the song they were doing so who knows lol

I honestly never got the hype around AS2. Yes it’s really good but there’s some glaring issues with it imo, mainly the cast having so many season 5 girls who obviously wouldn’t vote for each other, and how the show treats PhiPhi on the season just always makes me extremely uncomfortable.

No...no...no. she fucking licked Katya, not only was it done to Katya without consent, and listen to Race Chaser I think it was, because Katya told Alaska she wasn't comfortable with that after the lip sync. I joined the fandom on the day s8 finale was out and i fell in love instantly lol. The as2 was out in a month or two and by that time i watched all seasons in reverse. That's why i didn't even realise Katya and Ginger were literally fresh off the season, like Jan was lol still they were killers in as2

The first time a winner was not the person with the most maxi challenge wins was on season 9,and then all stars 3 with trixie.The Logo era always crowned the obvious choices as winners. And in this season it was alaska.i don t think that katya actually deserved her top 2 placements that much tho,like that makeover was not groundbreaking or anything😂 in all stars 4 she would have been in the bottom

I think the Herstory of the World winners should have been Alyssa and Roxxxy, actually. Detox had the same line over and over again and wore harsh neon colors as Marie Antionette, which wasn’t a thing back then. Roxxxy looked the part and had a bit of choreography, more so than Detox, so I think she should have been a joint winner with Alyssa.
Honestly, Alaska and Alyssa's comedy set was not funny at all. Ginger and Katya did better, but they wanted to bring Alyssa anyway, so they edited it in a gentle manner. Obviously it was the right decision, but rigged anyway.

I always find myself thinking about random drag race things and how things could have gone differently in certain challenges or what queens could have changed to do better. I think about Katya’s Diana a lot and so far the only thing that’s come into my mind to make the performance better would be if at the part where she goes from sweet to more sexy Katya had done a reveal into Diana’s iconic revenge dress. I think a reveal into a more sexy black dress and then just amping up the sexiness of her movements would have shown a good contrast, been a surprise to the judges, and made her part more interesting. Just a thought though

Same, I am way late to drag race only started watching it at the end of last year but through getting into it I kept seeing the name phi phi and by the time I watched s4 I was expecting phi phi to be bad and Yh she was in s4 but not as bad as I thought tho and when when I watched as2 was expecting her to be as bad as I saw how she hadn’t changed but it was all from all the other queens saying a narrative that I couldn’t see🤷🏼♀️

i agree with the placements, but i dont think alaska deserved to win any of her lip syncs since there is only one major rule to lip syncing on drag race, drag is not a contact sport. and alaska made non-consensual physical contact with every queen she was in a lipsync in. she licked katya’s face just to throw her of her game in cherry bomb
Several things:
1) Coco deserved better.
2) Detox deserved to be in the bottom for her lackluster commercial and poorly-made product, while Tatianna deserved a high placement.
3) Alaska deserved her challenge wins and the crown, but her lip sync wins against Phi Phi and Katya (Cherry Bomb) were VERY questionable.
