I'm a gamedev student and I'm modeling a tiny weapon for a mouse that is a toothpick stuck into a piece of cheese. This tutorial has already helped and I see there are more in the cheese series!
OMG THIS WAS SO HELPFUL, im a design student trying to 3D model a camera for my assignments and I had no clue how to do the flash aspect of a dslr camera popping out from the top but this Boolean tutorial helped me so much, thanks Monica!
Really depends on the shape you want. In my experience if you have simple shapes like this one you can plan ahead and build your geometry accordingly before using the tool. But for more complex shapes it can get harder to plan ahead and you're just gonna have to multi-cut through the boolean mesh.
This is a good idea! Like the previous comments you can either build it knowing how the edge flow is going to work, or you can remesh it and get some unpredictable results. I'll make a tutorial on it soon. 😊 Thank you for watching!
@@maverickmurphy thanks for the insight! I agree I was recently building a flat bridge on a watch (hard to explain) and I had to use difference Boolean to extrude shapes from it and my mesh ended up very ugly.. luckily it’s not a model that is dependant on clean topology but would be great to know a workaround
Thanks for asking! I have a whole playlist on UVs. th-cam.com/play/PLbxLlP-Vyt-9-XMm4O98EaYu1c7A8Pivi.html Is there anything particular you are looking for?
ive used this tool my whole life and now all of a sudden it no longer works? every time i do it just shows the outlines of the whole object?? is there something I'm doing wrong?
hello, when you pulled out the basic cheese shape i was wondering how you made the rounded part on the back of the cheese? any help would be appreciated, thank you
Hello mam. Can you make a video upon booleans in version 2018 and also about the circulate components. After making booleans and circulate components i couldn't understand how to take the loops and the mesh is very weird after the smooth mesh. Please read my comment and make a tutorial upon this. Thankyou. I love enjoying your great tips.
Please draw a curve select the curve go to File - export selection then export with type DXF- ATF then open new file import that file . that is empety, atf export is fake
The new booleans are just so ridiculously unintuitive. They were rubbish before, but at least it was obvious how they worked. Now you need to take a class in booleans in order to use them, and the new menu. Deleting history does not work properly, so you're left with two intermediate objects in a menu when all you want is a simple union, intersection etc. Why is there not simply a "complete operation" button, or similar. Every tool in Maya works differently, and every time they develop a new one it's a new method, instead of trying to standardize workflow a little. Another massive miss from Autodesk.

That sounds like a really cute game! Thanks for sharing and I'm happy to hear my vides are helping!
Ayy that's sucha nice idea
right now im student at gamedev courses, and this video is helped me, thank u
As always super useful, clear and amazing. Just brilliant thank you
Glad it was helpful! Thank you so much for watching, James. 😊
the best tutorials! Thank you!

I can't thank you enough for this tutorial, just perfect for those who are starting 💖✨
Thank you for all your tutorial. You're awesome teacher!!
Glad you liked it! Thank you for watching 😀
Helped a lot today!I never wouldve found out, that I just need to just duplicate the booleaned object and retopologise it. It rlly helped thanks! :)
Glad it helped!🎉🎉
Gr8 tutorial. Clear.
Hi Monica, you are great!!!
Muchas gracias, excelente tutorial!
¡De nada! ¡Gracias por ver mis videos!
i'm experimenting with rigs, and have been trying to make a nonstandard eye shape rig for a while, this just might be the key to it!
You might want to also check out Lattices. They are great for nonstandard eye shapes, and I've used them for cartoon character rigs. :)
Would be great to see how you’d clean up the ngons or another workflow to get around it! Thanks for the vid

You can easily clean up the mesh with Mesh/Remesh and then Retopologize. 2020 and later I think.

@@tralthamidor I tried using the quadrangulate tool as you suggested but some meshes after Boolean differences don’t except the change

Thanks Mam💐
Very helpful and to the point. I like how you say cheese.
thank you :)
You're welcome!
Ok but then how can you fix these infnite ngons/nsides? Cool for render but how can we make this functional?
if you hold down tab you can paint select faces rather than select them all individually
Thanks, can you please make another great video about Uvs? That's my weaknesss
same

Hello Monica! Where are you? Great video, finally I figured out the booleans in Maya 2023)))
Glad I could help! It's a very powerful tool!

When I follow your steps, nothing changes. It didn't even created a new object (I only see polySurface1 got created). How can I fix that?

How to remove watermark batch render
Don't go through Bath Render, go through Render Sequence. Batch render is now connected to renderfarms. Render Sequence will do the same thing.
Hi teacher, please make a tutorial about dxf export . Thankyou
Hi, exporting is pretty simple. Select the mesh go to File>export selection. In the pull down menu for Files of Type: DXF_ATF
Hope that helps!
Dear master ,this does not give the result. It creates an empty file. After the 2016 version, this method does not work properly.
Please draw a curve select the curve go to File - export selection then export with type DXF- ATF then open new file import that file . that is empety, atf export is fake
hi, can i ask maya 2020 version do this? Thanks
Yes, but it's a much simpler version of it. :)
@@AcademicPhoenixPlus can you show how to booleans on maya 2020 without grid error, thanks
when you select faces hold tab for don't select wrong faces
Does the Topology care ?
Topology matters, but booleans give you a lot of ngons. I'll be making a video shortly on how to clean it up. :)
@@AcademicPhoenixPlus thanks that would be awesome
haven't watched yet but this is something i'm always hesitant to use in maya, looking forward to see your workflow and techniques, cheers
Don't hesitate! It's got a learning curve but it is so much fun. 😊
Damn, the maya boolean has a lot more options than the boolean in Blender.
It's such a powerful tool!
Mam please fur simulation
Thank you for the suggestion! I'll see if I can swing it. :)
