    Thank you so much for your response on the scope. It's an arkin scope. I'm a full time security officer. Part time gun enthusiasts so I look to the pros like ya'll to help me cut through all the hype so I can just purchase the things I need. I don't have the time to do the research you do.

    I use a slug gun for part of our season. After a few (several) off the shelf versions I made my ideal with budget parts that needed refinishing. I found a slightly rusted Hastings barrel, a non functioning Wingmaster, an updated trigger and some parkerizing supplies. I pinned the barrel and did all the things with everything.I built up a stylin comb with laminate till my eye was just right on a very nice scope. It's an absolute machine. I call it "Old Game Hog". it flattens everything from ten to a hundred yards. I can tell stories about not being able to miss. It self corrects. I could have bought one from Tar Hunt or another outfit but I made it myself. No compromise. DIY for the win.

      It fits well and doesn't have the hook on the grip like the Magpul. The hook or protrusion on the grip didn't fit my hand. The build quality is outstanding. The barrel has a lot of room around it. The MDT fit like a glove to the action. The price was also reasonable. You can adjust the cheek riser and remove the bolt without turning it over to get it out. @@readyme

    Last week I dropped my Bergara B14 Ridge SP 6.5 Creedmoor into the same LSS Chassis you guys are showing. With the MDT SCS stock and folding adapter. Nice setup. Haven’t shot it yet but I’m sure it’ll work great for coyotes to deer. Also if anyone else gets the LSS chassis wants to do an arca rail Area419 6” arca lock works well since it has the 3 m lok slots like the forend of the LSS. Only thing is you’ll have to grind about 1/16” off the rail so it sits flat on the forend. The chassis begins to curve towards the built in barricade stop on the chassis and the rail is a pinch too long to seat flat. But it works great if you don’t mind doing a minor modification and voiding the warranty on a $70 piece of aluminum lol.

I would like to get a supressor for it as well but don’t want to oh the tax stamp. I do hike when I hunt so a frame would be a good idea.

    I wanted a bolt gun in 308/7.62x51, but I didn't want a Ruger rifle because changed the stock, so I got a Savage 110 Tactical 20” barrel now the stock is good to go plus it comes with a 20 MOA scope base cost $785.00.
    Update - I replaced the factory barrel; the rifle’s bore was crappie below my standard for a rifle’s barrel. Criterion barrel.
    Additional: what I have learned is a great barrel cleans up fast buy a quality barrel satisfaction.

    Good video guys, Thank you.. I prefer the 7mm-08 Remington for my hunting rifle, because the ballistics are a little better than the .308 Winchester.

    • @mwmag
      @mwmag  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nice! Use what feels best right? Since I'm not 100% familiar with 7mm-08, what makes the ballistics better? Isn't the .308 case just necked down to take a 7mm bullet? Looking at the bullet performance, I see comparing the 150gr in each, that the .308 has 170 more fps in velocity and 309 more ft lbf in energy. Since I've never shot a 7mm-08, just interested in your thoughts on what makes it better. Or is it simply your preference which i csn appreciate. Thanks Texas Tom. I just bought my 5th, YES 5th Ruger American, I was a Remboy in the 90's, then a Savage, DIY builds from reciever up, and now I am firmly in the Ruger American camp.
    3 Ranch Rifles, 223, 300bo, X39, and 2 Predators, the first in 6.5Creed, and was modded with a GO Wild Stock for ACIS mags, and wears a Nightforce scope
    Why put a $2000 NightForce on a $449 Rifle? Because it shoots 1/4MOA out to 600yds, and less then 1MOA after, all day long with 140grn handload.
    2nd RAP is a 308 that was a mispick at the local Gun store so I got a Go Wild 308 for $219! It's wearing a Vortex 6-24X50 Viper. Groups are in the .33" and 1/3MOA out to 500yds at the moment with a simple 42.5grns Varget under a 175grn SMK Blem.
    General mods overall to all 5 -
    NUMBER 1! - Filled in the forends with ROCKITE, to stiffen and maintain freefloat, very simple, very cheap, hardest part is putting the mag catch back together on reassembly. This was an old Savage Model 10 trick I learned.
    NUMBER 2 - Ebay 1.5lb trigger springs in all. Changes the feel immensely without dropping $200 on a Aftermarket spring.
    Out of the Box with even a cheap match ammo PPU@$19/box the 308 was doing sub MOA. Infact all of the Rugers were at MOA with decent storebought ammo.

    Love my American predator in 6.5 creed. The only thing that annoys me is the bolt isn’t locked while on safe so while walking with it the bolt can open while bumping around while hunting.

    • @mwmag
      @mwmag  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And that can be a pain if your trudging through thick woods where it can easily snag. I know a few buddies that use stretch cord and locks to "wrap" around the bolt to the stock while they move. Something like this: www.amazon.com/dp/B07Z36GCVW

    You wasted $12 on that trigger spring, just take a ball point pen apart and install the spring from the pen. I cut 1/4" off my spring and it is slightly under 2 pounds (it was slightly over 2 pounds full length). As a bonus, you can slide the spring in after installing the trigger through the set screw hole, and remove the spring easily if you want to shorten the spring. I polished all the surfaces of the trigger with a Dremel and cotton bob and diamond compound, came out really nice (I am a Timney guy usually) I wish you guys had weighed both rifles. I got a Trinity 6.5 muzzle break off EBay for $37 (made in USA and very fast delivery) and it is really nice, highly recommend.

    Beginner here, what does that spring do performance wise

    • @mwmag
      @mwmag  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Great question. The spring upgrade lowers the trigger weight. And lower trigger weights equate to less user movement potentially offsetting the shot. For example, 2 lb trigger means very little pulled need to fire the gun and less movement. A 5 lb trigger requires more effort and that effort could cause you to move the gun slightly as you pull the trigger. Even a small offset can mean the difference of a bullseye or being off by 4 inches. Hope that helps.

      They are the standard ruger bolts just highly hand polished. We changed the bolt handle, bolt knob, cocking piece and shroud. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.

    • @mwmag

      No. The hunter comes in 308 and 6.5 Creedmoor. The 30-06 option closest would be the Ruger Hawkeye hunter. Thanks for watching.

      I just bought a 16” barreled Ruger American in 308 paid 500$ out the door. The magpul stock I paid 230$ for on Amazon. I have a 100$ hawke mildot scope. And about 25$ for scope rings factory trigger. About 850$ at this point into my rifle.

    Kind of nice to see you do so much with a rifle to make it your own, but honestly what is that rifle worth after your upgrades? That rifle with a good shooter would shoot good groups right out of the box. The stock upgrades make them your personal builds but for hunting neither is all that great especially the chassis with a long mag to get in the way. I can understand a trigger upgrade or a muzzle device on that rifle. But sinking a bunch of money in it for a stock or chassis one would have been better to buy a different rifle in the first place. That is why you only got 278 likes out of all those views you had. Have fun. interesting to watch people trip over themselves for their silly investments.

      Americans are uniquely able among all nations to buy inexpensive, accurate rifles & customize them to our liking & physical fit.
      Optics, stocks, triggers/springs, bipods & more. If you want to buy inexpensive rifles & keep them bone stock, go right ahead. Please keep your criticism of other men's choices to yourself. Freedom of choice and a healthy marketplace stand alongside the 🇺🇲 right to keep and bear arms.
      No other society has either - much less both.

    Why would you buy another trigger spring when you have a lifetime factory spring that can be shortened with wire cutters ? Why buy economy $ 5 or 6 hundred then drop another grand to make a $1000 gun. ? I know I do the same thing because it's fun. Give a man a piece of meat and feed him for a day. Teach a man how to hunt and he'll spend all his money on guns

    • @mwmag
      @mwmag  ปีที่แล้ว

      Many of the components, and sometimes the entire production is from China or the Philippines. This seems to be the case for a good share of the optics on the market in order to keep them from tripling in price. Votex, Holosuns....list goes on are all in the same boat unfortunately.

    • @mwmag

      Funny thing is you could pick up 10 items in your home and 9 of them will say made in China. The 10th is like Vietnam or Taiwan. I get the consideration in today's world but it's hard to find most things that are made in America but aren't 3x price. When thst day comes I'll buy 100% American. Until then I go with best option for best price. Thanks for the comment and I see the eye roll lol.
