Those mashed potatoes look delicious with that gravy! I'm gonna have to make that next time I go camping! No hate on cooking the beans in it's can. Great video guys!
A (not so secret) secret… love the vids and I’m always learning, so here’s one back at ya! Remember Avon? Grab a bottle of their Skin So Soft moisturiser if you get half a chance and say goodbye to those midges, mozzies, ticks and bugs (we have our fair share up in the Highlands and in the forestry)! It’s just a simple moisturiser (unlike Deet or Jungle Formula etc.), it’s good for the skin and works a treat. Cheap, non-toxic, 100% safe alternative to bug-spray that just works (plus your skin will thank you)!
I'm off to the woods on Friday, can't wait. How many people find the more times you go away the better you get at it. Taking the right things, not wasting things you take etc. I'm not in Simon or Craig's league yet though. Happy days to all
What more could you ask for ! 2 legends on the same video absolutely brilliant. I usually have to watch one then the other. Need to see you simon and Craig more out together 💥
Cooked in the can is how we used to heat our baked beans and bangers n beans on our campfires and bonfires as kids during the 70"s. Reassuring to see the technique is still alive and kicking 👌 Well done fellas!
You two are such a nice couple of fellows. So neat that you can be friends and get to camp out together. Pines are always my favorite place to hang out. Thanks for this great video, Simon.
Glad to see ya back out in the woods Beans cooked in a can, I can't believe that's a big deal. I just turned 70 and when camping, I thought cooking in the can I'd what was supposed to happen. And you know there are some that makes a big deal out of using a wooden spoon, survived that too. LOL Great video, nice camp, nice weather, a friend to enjoy it with. Don't get much better. God bless and stay safe on your travels.
Two thoroughly decent blokes enjoying a great wild camp, what could be better? Youre both experts in this field, oops Dad pun there. This is good for my mental health just watching both of you, either of you, individually or not. Thanks for sharing 👍
Another great video, thank you. I still warm up tinned food (already cooked) near the fire. Back in the day we'd make a bain marie with our mess tins. I like fried sausages but I LOVE boiled sausages. I boil them and the onions in a pot then add the gravy granules at the end. It's about 630am watching this and I'm now ravenous!!!Thanks again.
I just ate but got hungry again watching you with that meal. I want to know what is wrong with heating beans in a can. Plain food but nothing better. What I like the most is that you didn't have to spend time chopping and mixing. Just plain ole goodness. Just so you know, it has become a custom at my house, after watching your videos, to lightly toss your plate so that the fork makes a noise after you have a meal. Certain phrases have also become common here. Phrases such as "Just the ole job" and "That went down well" can be heard quite often around here. Needless to say, you have made quite an impression on my household. Thanks for all you do!!!
Craig is a great guy and hope to see a few more vids with you both. That sure seemed like a great camp in contrast to the cold and wet night before. "200 THOUSAND subscribers" Awesome and well deserved Simon! Cheers from Newfoundland Canada.
At the 7:00 🕖 mark we see Simon absolutely loving it and having to hold back his joy watching his new good mate Craig do his thing on camera with the guava . So so cool haha I was smiling along n watched it a few times I love your episodes ! Both of ya So good and just a big Thank you 🙏🏼 for all the work you do . Thank you lads
Reminds me of those dark long winter nights me and my mates spent in the woods huddled around a campfire with a few drinks during the lockdowns, good stuff
Im from Canada and love your videoa if ever im in the UK id love to spend a weekend with out in the woods. Im a feelow bushcrafter myself and love your videos and the woodlands your in. love the meals you make too gives me ideas for my own camping feasts. cheers simon.
The issue with cooking in a can is that you do not want the thin plastic liner of the tin cooking/burning to produce nasty carcinogenic chemicals that then taint your food. If you do want to cook in the tin, it is important to ensure you don't use too high a temperature. A safe method is to put the tin inside another container with water, or as we saw Simon do in this video, place them a little away from the high temp heat source, on his cooking rack. Don't cook a tin directly in a fire or very hot coals.
If you did a little real on the ground research you would find that MOST if not all, tinned Baked Beans in Tomato Sauce DO NOT have any plastic liner and if they do, it is usually only a thin strip over the weld/join in the can. Other safe cans without any plastic liners include tinned Pineapples and other acidic foods. Dog and cat foods also don't usually have any form of plastic liner and therefore make decent cooking pots, safe to use at any temperatures.
Guess what, during manufacturer, the bean can is pressure cooked and gets hotter that it ever will over a fire, so long as it's full with open lid. The liner on a can filled with liquid should not get any hotter that a can sitting in a water bath. Water conducts heat incredibly well, especially boiling water.
@@swiftandsure9216 WATER! SPROG. Heated mine attached with wire to the manifold of my Landrover or with the Hexamine stove, but to be honest, NONE of our tins had this white plastic lining this lot are worried about. I remember being on Salisbury Plains and giving my two 58 Pattern water bottles to the Recce Corporal who got the whole sections water bottles filled in the River Avon. A couple of puritabs and it was the best tasting water I'd had for a while. Let's face it, we only had Puritabs and Milbank Banks, nothing else.

Love to see you two together! What a grand time and a contrast with the bleak hours spent in your tents in the storm! Thanks for another grand video! Already looking forward to the next one. ATB to you both!
Sat here with you from my bed here in Sydney. Wish I could light a fire but they are banned due to the heatwave we are due to have. Really miss making a good campfire. Nothing like the satisfaction of getting a fire going from the smallest spark onto some silver birch bark and feeding with kindling. Made myself laugh when I started forming a windbreak around your fire with my hand. Great vid guys and who knows, maybe one day I’ll go camping in the outback and have a fire. Might even film it to prove I can build a fire. Cheers
Hi Simon I'm Tom from Scotland, Sharon and I have watched your videos for years. You have helped both of us through very hard times, gave us inspiration to get up and go after very difficult circumstances. We think your videos are A1 honestly, everything you do from kayaking cooking tent's equipment is very well explained. I know you had a wee break for your own reasons but please don't give up as your actually no1 at this game. This was more like it Simon in the forest the proper campfire. It's nearly 10:00 PM here and I'm tempted to go out to the kitchen to make sausages and mashed potatoes. Yours looks so good. But I guess I'll wait till tomorrow for dinner. Thanks for sharing stay safe and healthy. EDIT: I was still wanting your food when I woke up next morning, so I just finished off a sausage, two rashers of bacon, two fried eggs, and some beans with a piece of naan. Oh Boy. That's what I call breakfast!!!

I think it’s something to do with chemicals in the metal that can contaminate the beans. Ive done it for 25 years and not had issues
