  • @lap8329
    @lap8329 ปีที่แล้ว +340

    It is British law that only serving members of the military may wear uniforms, and saluting is only done while actually wearing uniform, no matter what your serving military status is. Charles, William, and Anne are serving members of the military in their capacity as colonels-in-chief of various regiments, so they have the right to wear uniforms, and the obligation to salute. Their wearing of their uniforms at great occasions of state is done as a mark of respect for the regiments they head. Andrew and Harry have no active military status anymore, so they wear their service medals only, just like all other ex-military personnel of every rank. There was a significant concession made to allow Harry to wear a uniform for the Princes’ Vigil, but in fact, an important insignia was removed from his uniform which, in effect, meant it was no longer really and truly a genuine uniform.

    • @pearlmcilroy8621
      @pearlmcilroy8621 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If you check out the video of Harry's uniform on his wedding day, you'll see that the insignia was on William's uniform, but not Harrys. So the insignia wasn't removed for the vigil.

    • @kerryhansen882
      @kerryhansen882 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      The insignia was removed before his marriage to megaliar

    • @lap8329
      @lap8329 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      The insignia that was removed was the small “ER” flash positioned on the shoulder tabs. Check his wedding photos - it is there. Although it is only a very small item, it is more important as a part of the uniform than the showier elements that depend on things like rank. Removing that flash essentially reduces the uniform to a dress-up costume.

    In civilian clothing, they stood to attention with their heads bowed in respect. If they had worn headgear, they would have removed their hats and held them over their hearts.
    Unlike the US military, you do not salute without headgear on.
    This tradition passed onto the South African Army and other dominions of the British Empire.
    If I was in uniform without headgear on, I would be expected to 'brace up' by coming to attention temporarily to show respect.

    They should create a different salute for people who want to show equal respect, but are no longer "working Royals". Sounds reasonable to me. I respect that they didn't salute, not being active, and/or dressed. I just think something simple that stands apart from just standing with arms at their sides would speak more loudly of the respect they're trying to convey.

    Also there is only one British regiment where you are allowed to salute without a headdress which is the Blues and Royals ......all other service men and women can ONLY salute whilst wearing headdress , I know this because it saluted an officer without my beret on and I got 300 press ups for saluting without a headress

      Charles, Anne, Edward, and William hold honorary titles in some of the leading Regiments, which is why they wear the uniforms. To those Regiments, it is a matter of pride that a Senior RF member is their titular head. They would feel disgraced if this were not the case.

    That's really nasty! Andrew at least bowed a little! But horrible Harry was defiantly face straight with a very smug look! He was there for his grandmother. His action showed he's mad at the world. Has all his beautiful memories he has with his grandmother gone. She loved him so much. He shouldn't show up to anything!! He could stay in CA forever! It's going to fall off the map within the next 30 years anyway.

      If this was a video, it would actually show them both with their heads bowed like they should have done. Both have been stripped of all military ties, so therefore, they shouldn't salute. But typically, someone has blown a picture out of proportion because they don't understand how the British do things.
