Navy vet here: We had a jet crash in the desert... the pilot didn't make it out. The wreckage was spread over a good 1/2 mile or more. We had to go out to the site, walk in a line about 6 feet apart and look for any bit or piece of aircraft. We would mark the spot where we found pieces with a little flag. If we found something that didn't look like aircraft or looked like clothing or something that would be on the floor of a butcher shop, we had to yell for one of the "response team" to come over. Not pleasant!

While I was sleeping, my toilet over flowed. The only bit of luck we had was that it was only water. Hour after hour, it flooded through the bedroom into the living room and out the front door.
I woke up to frantic knocking on the front door and knew why when my feet squished into the soaked carpet.
In the end, I spent Christmas alone in a freezing wet mess. The carpet was pulled up and big fans were blowing through any coat I wore. I had to throw out more than 200 dollars worth of books, a few knickknacks.
The horrible part was losing a friend. My downstairs neighbor, who was an awesome person, had been visiting her family. Water ran down her walls and over the floor. Her super-cool cats were traumatized and I couldn't do anything to help. I wrote her a sympathy note, but who knows if she got it and we never spoke again.
I'm a little embarrassed at my relief to move a few months later. It felt like I was running from a mess I made, even though I literally slept through the emergency. I'll probably relive the horror on my deathbed.

Regarding the kid who had to clean the grease trap: I’m a microbiologist. There is a concentrated solution of bacteria that you can use to break down the solid waste and fat in the grease trap overnight, and for what it’s worth, it would cost less than employing someone to do it for many hours.

    • @catoverlords9560

I have a couple from my ~ interesting ~ life, but this one is the best and it isn't even mine.
A rather strange 60+ yo Veteran coworker with a septic company messing with the elbow where the opening is to unstick the plumbing. The cap or screw or whatever is broken, unbeknownst to him. Using some rebar, he goes to start poking at the pipe when bam: crap water projectiles directly into him. And all he does is stand there and wait it out, while his two person backup crew and several construction workers vomit uncontrollably somewhere behind him. When it's finished, he's standing there covered in toilet paper and fecal matter and everything undesirable and he just looks up. Deadpan. At his crew and pretends to smack his lips. And says, "Mmmm, must have had tuna casserole last night!"
And everyone else starts puking again.

I had just got home and checked on our pregnant mare (horse for those who don't know what a mare is) when I looked into the stall . She had given birth but the colt wasn't breathing and half of its birth sack was still on It. I ran into the stall shoving the mare to the side I tried CPR the colt. Including mouth to snout breathing. The mare came over to me laying her head on my shoulder. Then she started making these soft chuffing sound and gently touching the side of my face. The colt didn't make it. It was likethe mare was comforting me. Every time I walked into the barn after that. The mare came to the stall door and made these soft chuffing sounds. Like she was talking to me . I had to give her a good petting and she always nozzled me gently on the face. It's was like she knew what I did to try and save her colt. The vet told us the colt was born too early. There was nothing I could have done to save it. That made me feel less guilty about not being able to save the colt.

I was a hospice CNA for 3 years in my 20’s.
I spent those years changing diapers, cleaning/changing colostomy bags (one actually burst and poured bile all over my leg), bathing old men (which included pulling back foreskins and cleaning the dickcheese), massaging and putting lotion on old men, changing urine and doodoo soaked sheets, all sorts of stuff. One time, I saw my patient get nauseous and was able to grab a trash to put in front of him before he threw up on the floor.
Honestly, working at blockbuster was worse. Those patients and families made me feel like a fucking angel for being there. I have never felt more appreciated or needed in my life.
Yeah… it was gross, and it was more depressing than a drowning bucket of puppies with cancer, but it was an experience unlike anything else. I still cry, or laugh, or think about those people. I don’t think I can ever forget them.

I ate bad burritos. The food poisoning set in the next day and I could barely do anything. One night, it hit me. This intense wave if nausea slaps me. My room is close to the bathroom but I did not make it. I remember up chunking onto my bed so hard that it felt like my stomach was squeezing itself. It was everywhere, on me, on the floor, all over my bed. I had to make the walk of shame across the house to get my mom. It was the worst case of food poisoning I had because I was put into the hospital a day later for dehydration. Ever since, I refuse to eat burrito because the memory of throwing up spicy burrito is burned into my mind.

When I was in high school, I saw a guy gulp down the weight room community chew spit receptacle for $30. He turned up the spittoon and started chugging it, brown tobacco spit dripping from the corners of his mouth as he killed it down. After 5 or 6 swallows, he's finished. He paused briefly before puking his guts out into the nearby trash can ☹
    Edit:
I, also, watched a guy take a 70+ feet fall while repelling. I was standing at the edge of the cliff watching him descend. He paused about 10 feet below me, said see ya at the bottom, kicked off the rock face, his rope came unfastened (guy who fell was trying out a new method...I almost told him that I wanted to go first but thought I could wait a few more minutes to get rockin' 😬) and slipped right by my feet. He hit a fallen tree and shot out of my sight into the woods. I hooked up to another rope and jumped to the ground in a single kick off. He was absolutely totaled, bones sticking out of his left arm and completely through his left shoe. He was gurgling, trying to breath through blood. He ended up with a broken back, fractured left arm, torn aorta, amputated left leg below the knee. Oh, and there was a fellow from my job that had never been repelling before. My 3 friends and I invited him and he was up top with me when the dude fell. He quickly decided he was no longer interested in repelling after that. Out of our small group I was the only one who continued to repel after that.

My mom worked as a janitor for a college campus back in 2013. She took the job on straight away as the pay was good but didn’t know exactly what to expect. One day, she comes home looking paler than a sheet and I ask how her day was. She begins to tell me about how she’d gone into some rarely used building to clean the women’s bathroom and described the largest poop she’d ever seen to me as “like one of those 5 lbs ground beef logs from Walmart”. She then went on to explain the lengths she had to go through to make it all go down and THEN whoever did that also left their soiled panties in the trash can meant for tampons and pads. I, being 13, couldn’t even contain my laughter, but even after all this time, she still wonders how the hell that person is even still alive after pushing out that crap baby.

Luckily, the worst I can think of was when my nephew who used stay with me 6 days and 6 nights a week woke up crying one night after I'd put him to bed. That _never_ happened before or after. Anyway, I thought maybe he had a bad dream or something and laid down on my bed next to the playpen he slept in and he was on my stomach/chest on his belly and I was singing to him. He was almost asleep again when he lifted his head, looked at me, wide-eyed, and projectile vomited, hitting me square in the center of my neck where it was running down both sides! I sat up quickly, stopping it from landing on my bed and headed to the bathroom where I showered with him sitting in the tub behind me, whining because he was sleepy and very unhappy about a second bath for the night. The barfing sorted out his belly ache immediately though and I barely had his diaper on before he was already asleep. Finished dressing him and back to bed he went!

Actually, I just thought of a worse story from around the same time involving the same nephew. Baby usually went to bed in a onesie or shorts but I made the mistake of putting him to bed in a diaper and t-shirt. I woke up to him, at 9am, yelling "mama!" (he could say Cece, which is what my nieces and nephews call me, but refused to call me anything but "mama" most of the time, no matter how many times I said, "not 'mama'. 'Cece'!"). Anyway, I woke up smelling 💩 and looked over to find he'd taken his diaper off and had 💩 everywhere! I think he even ate some cause he definitely had 💩 breath!! 😳🤢🤦🏻‍♀️😜🤷🏻‍♀️😂 needless to say, he was one unhappy, poopy, camper going straight into the tub when I got up! 🤦🏻‍♀️😂

But apparently it was on our brown bathroom Matt's and when I went in to wash up I got more than I bargained for. I ended up washing my feet in the bathtub and my parents came and took the Matt to be "professionally decontaminated". One time, my parents and I were at my grandmother’s house for a good few hours. When we came home, our black Labrador had puked and shit EVERYWHERE. It was all up the walls, all over the floor in every room. I think he’d even peed all over the kitchen floor and we had to clean it up. The smell was indescribable, just absolutely foul. Still have no idea what caused him to do that and he hasn’t done it since. We wondered if it was just the fact he’d been left for a few hours and got frightened. But we’d left him before and he was fine. Something must have really messed him up to make him do that.

I remember once our sewage vent cap outside in the side yard, literally EXPLODED with poo and other nasty stuff in about a 6 foot radius in the back yard. I could smell it when I opened the back door to let the dogs out, and once I saw it, I quickly got the dogs back inside bc I didn’t know if they’d run through it or roll in it.
I get some small fencing to block it off from the dogs and upon inspecting it, I started to even wonder if this was our poo. There was so much poo with corn in it, and we hadn’t had corn in a VERY long time. There were also what seemed to be baby wipes, some tampons, and these weird white cone things in it everywhere.
I came to the conclusion that this wasn’t just our poo, it’s the neighbors poo too bc we don’t flush baby wipes, tampons, or whatever those white cone things were. That part of the yard stayed fenced off from the dogs for months afterwards bc I just couldn’t handle the idea of them running through it and getting leftover poo particles on their feet and into the house.

Oh God the tampon/condom one got me. I was around 11/12 when our shower/bath drain was so backed up and Dad had to call a plumber out. They found a massive hair wad blocking the drain that had to get snaked out. It smelled awful. There were 4 of us girls in that house, all with long hair.
The plumber was an acquaintance of my Dad and as politely as possible warned him that when the time comes, do NOT let your daughters flush tampons down the toilet even though they say they are flushable. That those can cause thousands of dollars of damage.

    Two stories:
-Cleaning out a period blood soaked bathroom, including the blood covered panties that the customer left behind and didn't bother shoving them into the trash can.
-Working at a veterinary clinic where a giant doberman had gotten his wet shit to cover the floor, walls. and door. He also knocked over his water bowl, which added to the mess, and essentially made the shit into a soup consistency. It was horrific.

I didn't actually do anything due to my employment position, but I did accomplish an act of speaking up while working at my local grocery store. It was only my 4th day and I was super lucky to have noticed a nasty mess when I did. A customer who was most likely shopping alone must have gotten sick so suddenly because nobody reported the mess (I later noticed she was hiding in the bathroom while waiting for a loved one to bring her new clothes to change into). The fact that no other customers reported it implied that there were no witnesses. Because I spotted the mess, I quickly told a coworker to inform the managers while I watched over it so no one would touch it. The whole situation was thankfully taken care of at the end but it makes me cringe to think what would have happened if the mess was reported too late.🤢

Cleaning the urine traps. We had a composing toilet at work and we had to clear out the urine traps every other week. Thankfully gloves were provided but on a couple of occasions people got splashed with warm urine. One person nearly vomited.
Once a volunteer drop the disinfectant bottle down the composter and the only way to retrieve it was for me to be lowered in by my ankles.
One thing worth mentioning. Once a lad took a dump in the urinals. It was just lying there and we were utterly confused. The mechanism of the act wasn't in question but the logistics, since it was a long trough in a covered shed, privacy would have been impossible and we just couldn't work it out. I don't remember what we did but we've never understood what happened.

My bfs moms basement got flooded. So for like a week anytime someone would use the bathroom it’d just go in the basement. There was 8 of us at the time… 1 bathroom. Me and him were tasked to try and get it unclogged. We wore trash bags up to our thighs. It was so bad down there. Burned your eyes. They finally got someone to come do it and after there were piles of toilet paper and poop everywhere. We all worked together to clean up. Everyone was gagging and crying. Sewage was getting on us. The smell was terrible. There was poo water in boxes of clothes Xmas decor old computers. It was terrible. We all started arguing but got it done. It was very stressful.

After the morning service I was almost ready to go home just need to stock up the bathroom etc.
Everyone had gone home so I get a chance to check the ladies room. There was shit everywhere. On top of the toilet. On the floor. On the handicap rails. On the sink.
I spent an hour cleaning everything with bleach. Used like 200 paper towels.
    Holy shit.

    I’m a paramedic.
The grossest award goes to the guy with the deflated leg. My god, the smell. I don’t know how I managed to keep from vomiting until after getting to the hospital.
Basically, Guy got a branch through his upper leg. He decides he’s going to save on a trip to the hospital and remove the branch himself.
Don’t remove any impalements yourself. Let us do that for you.
It got badly infected. When I saw it, it wasn’t a leg anymore. Instead it’s this quivering purple, green and yellow gelatinous mass. I’m the only one not overcome by the god awful smell yet. I just barely touch the leg, and the whole thing deflated like a balloon. How I didn’t gag or vomit at that point, I don’t know.
You know the noise a zit makes when you pop it? That’s the sound it made.
Guy didn’t survive. I heard he underwent an extreme amputation, but the infection was just too much to be overcome.
