I’m Korean American, my mother is completely Korean. Whenever I got home from school and I did good on a test, my mother would reward me by making this for dinner. This dish has a special place in my heart and it’s one of my favorite foods of all time.
Last semester, for a Food class at Montana State, my daughter and her team had to cook a meal, meat version and vegan version, in some "International' cuisine. They picked Korean and used Maagchi's bimimbap and kimchi and other recipes. Then won the class competition and got to serve the meal as a pre fixe meal at a local restaurant... then the local news interviewed Emma for the evening news. Thanks Maangchi for being such a leader and inspiration!
Maangchi, sometimes I just stop by to laugh at your humor when you talk to the food. I also appreciate that you have options for those who do not eat seafood. I also like how clean and neat your kitchen and utensils are. I like that plate hanging on your wall. You are so much fun.

I tried jjajangmyeon for the first time tonight! My "steak and potatoes" boyfriend loved it, too. It's so comforting and somehow familiar to a western palate. Had to rush to your video to see how it's made. Thanks for being our queen of Korean food!
Dear Maangchi. You are such wonderful n stay young since 10 years ago. I was watching you every day when i was pregnant with my daughter 😂.now she is 9. what the recipes of your forever young 😂😂😂
You’re such a great teacher. Each step to ingredients are clearly described and an explanation of everything is discussed. That way we know the importance of never skipping or leaving out a step or technique.
My family has been eating so much jjajangmyeon since quarantine started. We used to get the sauce from the korean market, but after watching your previous jjajangmyeon video, we've started to make the sauce from scratch at home. There was definitely a learning curve the first few times.
I would also like to know how you did it. I started some fermented black beans but that's as far as I got, and I searched a lot for recipes, but all the articles just point to buying premade paste.
I made this yesterday. I used pork and shrimp. It's really good. What surprised me was the left overs. It was even better. I cooked it for lunch and had left overs for dinner.
Remember when I was younger my mother and I would go out every weekend to her friends restaurant and eat this. With side dishes of Kimchi, spinach, bean sprouts, pickled radish.
My daughter introduced Jjajangmyeon to me ... she used lots of onions and lots of mushrooms and served over rice ... I made this and preferred the noodles but I didn't use very much black bean paste it is very strong .... I love the infused onion oil I idea ... I have stopped eating meat but will try adding zucchini and potatoes. Thank you for this video ... ohhh I am so hungry now.
I became a big fan of dishes made with black bean sauce while living on the island of Guam and now a fan of Maangchi' and her cooking show. Can't wait to make some of her recipies. Thank you Maanhchi for sharing this with us.

Hi there 👋as a moslim i dont eat pork so i replace it with beef i tried some of your recipes.... Loved it so much... After watching a lot of Korean drama i learned to respect others taste and culture i hope people will get to respect mine and not giving prebad judgments🤕
As a Chinese, I love Korean Jjajang myeon more than the Chinese style, which is extremely salty and oily. In Chinese, 炸(Jjia: fried)酱(jang: sauce) means deep fry bean sauce. But Chinese version bean sauce is too salty to uncover other flavors in the noodles but Korean bean sauce is silky and savory...Love it!
Actually, this is still the Chinese version - from Shandong, the original birth place of 炸醬麵. They're the creator of this dish. The salty/oily version you're referring to is the Beijing style. If you visit Korea, you will find this noodle as well as 山東炒碼麵 Jjamppong in the Chinese restaurants there. zhajiangmian.com
Great video. I had jajangmyeon for the first time teaching English in South Korea. The owners of the hagwon ordered it in. I saw it through the plastic wrap covering it and thought it looked unappealing. Then the plastic covering was removed and I could smell it properly and I was a changed man lol
"Attack strategy for noodles: Swiftly, loudly & carefully!" Maangchi-sshi's jjajangmyeon has so many goodies in it. I can't eat restaurant ones after this. >^.^
Thank you for showing us how to make this. I have noticed that along with the pickled yellow radish, they also have sliced fresh white onions with choonchang sauce as another side dish as well
This has been my favorite dish since I was a very small boy. My mother was Korean. She couldn't cook very well but made a few dishes very well. This was as one of them.❤

Oh, my sweet Maangchi... Today I was starving, wondering about jjajangmyeon and had nothing in my pantry but brazilian ramyun 😭😂 I will need to make everything from scratch if I want to eat this! But, if it's for eating your delicious recipes, I can find the strength to do a lot of research and cook a lot too! I am so grateful to your videos, it always makes me feel happy whenever I watch you and feel so warm in cold days! Watching you before sleep is my favorite lullaby! 😂 Best regards from 🇧🇷❤️
Man...I really love jjajangmyeon in Korean style, and in the city in China that I'm from, there are hundreds, or maybe thousands of Korean restaurants due to the large populations of Korean-Chinese people, just like the Korean-Americans in the US. Therefore we can have this for at least 2 USD, and it is really the authentic recipe. This tutorial video brings my memory back.
저 이거 오늘 만들어서 먹었어요 ㅎ 레시피 너무너무 감사합니다! 중국집에서 먹는거보다 훨씬 맛있어요 I made this recipe today! It was best recipe ever! It even tastes better than typical chinese-korean restaurants! I am really appreciated!
