I've never ordered this at the Korean restaurants but it always looked so good to me, so I decided to pick up a jar of black bean sauce from the Korean section of my local Chinese market. Daikon is such a nice contrast to the thickened sauce and even though I don't usually like potatoes, I enjoyed eating potatoes in this dish! Thank you for sharing another delicious recipe!

It's been too long since I've had this dish so I made it tonight. I made some substitutions to use what I had in the house but I'm very happy with the outcome. I used sweet potato, omitted the daikon radish (I don't use it enough to justify buying a large piece), a whole zucchini, and I boned/skinned some chicken thighs instead of the pork. I also used jarred black bean sauce but supplemented it with some soy paste. It's not what I had in Korea- and I didn't expect it to taste the same-, but it still turned out very tasty. I love your site and your books. Maybe one day when I am visiting Flushing, we'll run into each other.

Find a Korean grocery store to start Korean cooking. I don't know where you live but check out a list of Korean grocery stores worldwide. I hope you can find one in your area. www.maangchi.com/shopping
If you can't find one with the link Maangchi sent you, you can get the paste on amazon usually. The pork belly/ shoulder can be found at spanish stores if you have one of those around. The daikon has been popping up in american stores recently, or ask a worker in the produce section. A lot of the times if you ask, they will order it for you :)!

Chinese Jajangmyeon is a little bit different. They're similar, but there's a definite difference.
aliz (TH-cam) submitted Hungarian caption for my Hungarian speaking viewers! Thank you so much, aliz!
I love not only her recipes, but I can just listen to her talk about ANYTHING and I enjoy it very much. She could talk about the weather and I would LOVE it.💖💖💖💖💖💖💖😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
I want to try this recipe really soon.💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘
love it! this tastes sooo good with kimchi ♥️ i substitute the pork with shrimps, which is also very delicious 😋
I was going to ask if we could exchange pork with something else! You just answered my question ♥️
Replace anything with shrimp or prawns and it will taste better😛
Wow 😯 I was following you in 2013 and now in 2020 I came back to you and remembered the days of 2013, I was excited to cook you, I missed you🥺🥺I was in middle school and now I will graduate from university💔💔😩
So this became one of our favorite dishes but with the situation right now I can't go and buy the right noodles but we desperately want to eat it. Can I use Udon instead? I could order them :)
Yes, you can use Udong noodles. Choose any chewy and thick noodles.
Awesome 😁 Thank you Maangchi :)
My first impression of Korean food was at the Hmart local to my university, and I ordered Jjajangbap from the food stalls inside. I remember falling in love with it, and then not finding it anywhere after I moved away. I was browsing TH-cam, saw this video, and that's how I discovered Maangchi's channel. I still use this recipe every time I find some jjajang :)
i’m gonna get the courage to make this😍 can’t order from my favorite korean restaurant to stay safe and stay home but i miss jjajangmyon so much. i hope i do it right!
I love how you always give alternatives for ingredients! thank you! this was very helpful x
Made this today and came out so good!! 😋 I was so proud of myself that I took a picture and sent it to my parents haha
Maangchi this is the 100th time that I've watch this! Couldn't cook it before because I can't find the paste but now I found it. Thank you for the amazing recipes and I hope you're doing great amidst this pandemic ❤
the most underrated Korean food. This food deserve to be known as much as Kimchi
This is why Netflix showcase this.
I've been craving this for so long and I cant eat it cause theres no market who sells black bean paste where I live :(
+kaththebear They don't sell it where I live either, but I bought a package on ebay, and although it might be a little more expensive, it's better than never tasting jjajangmyeon. :)
relate. i really want to cook jajangmyeon.
Me to😢
+kaththebear Same. but my area has the instant jajangmyeon so I just eat that instead
chelksea18 omg lucky!!! im going to toronto which has 2 korea town in may for kcon toronto and lemma say imma go eat in a korean restaurant and go buy korean groceries in a k market !
My mum's Korean boarder was telling us, apparently in Korea you eat jajangmyeon sitting on the floor the first night you move into a new house 🍜
In Turkey, we have a similar tradition. we eat lahmacun instead jajangmyeon :D Koreans and Turks have so much similarity
@@levisteam 😂 aynen
@@levisteam omg i didn’t know that
i know i'm late but i'll move in 3 weeks and i'll for sure do that now 🤤
@@levisteam Because Korea and Turkey are brothers.
You should do a tour of your kitchen! I have a small family and we live in a apartment so I don't know how to store veggies and all those goodies. Since you cook such delicious food, I wonder how you store your produce and if you have a pantry and all.
I've been wanting to learn how to cook Jjajangmyeon for a long time now and thanks to you for this video. I will try to cook it this weekend!
Made this for dinner tonight, tastes great! Thanks Maangchi!

Find a Korean grocery store to start Korean cooking. I don't know where you live but check out a list of Korean grocery stores worldwide. I hope you can find one in your area. www.maangchi.com/shopping

You didn't add salt
If you can't find one with the link Maangchi sent you, you can get the paste on amazon usually. The pork belly/ shoulder can be found at spanish stores if you have one of those around. The daikon has been popping up in american stores recently, or ask a worker in the produce section. A lot of the times if you ask, they will order it for you :)!
@@amrithachinu they dont use salt in jajangmyun. I tried it and will never try again. My mouth used to water everytime they eat in kdrama but once i tried it, no way i gonna eat even if they give me for free🤣🤣
Thank you sooo much for making videos in English Mam,can we use spaghetti or hakka noodles instead?
If you can't find the noodles for jjajangmyeon, yes, use spaghetti noodles. Choose thick noodles.
@@Maangchi you're so sweet mam, thank you sooo much for replying and letting me know❤️❤️❤️❤️

Maamhachi... This recioe not usimg any salt at all is that right..no garlic too.. Is that right?? Only a little bit sugar.. Am I rigjht?
Yes, the black bean paste is very salty, so you don't need to add salt. By the way, check out the recipe on my website, please. It has all the information you need. I always put the link to recipe in the description box of my videos. Good luck with your Korean cooking!
