    As soon as he said "I asked was their a ball involved", anyone with half a brain could tell his dog has done that because of balls before. And if you take your resource guarding dog to a dog park where there is OBVIOUSLY going to be treats, balls, maybe even toys, you are making a dumb mistake

      Its easier said than done to not go to a dog park. Walks arent enough and imajine always being in a small outdoor space,inside or on a leash. You just have to be attentive and maybe invest in pet insurance thats maybe more feasible for most people

    • @sashabenoit1518
      @sashabenoit1518 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@sadiebrown4493 It's easier said than done?? You are the owner in control of where you bring your dog and you have the choice not to go. It's really not that difficult of a concept. Also, being attentive doesn't actually do much to mitigate the risks. You could be fully alert, watching your dog's every move, but if your dog is not within reach, especially if it's off leash, there's really nothing you can do to stop it. Dogs are a lot faster than us and you can't possibly have your eyes on all of the dogs at once in the park. And having insurance is great for helping with those big vet bills that happen to pop up from time to time but it does absolutely nothing if the dog is killed and even if the dog does survive and is only injured, why would you even want to risk your dog getting hurt and possibly creating psychological issues from the trauma from an experience like that. Not to mention, that insurance is worthless if your dog happens to bite a person. Even if it's totally by accident, like they were just playing or were startled, you could end up getting sued big time. I'm totally with Judge Milian on this one, it's really not worth the risk. There are alternatives to get your dogs energy out and let them run around a bit. Also, if you truly are limited on space and you have no alternatives to give your dog space to roam around, either don't live somewhere not compatible with your dog's needs or don't get a dog that has needs you can't accommodate. It's really that simple. Our society is so very flawed in the way that we view and handle pet ownership. We put our own selfish wants and needs over the animal's needs. We base our decisions on superficial things such as we just think they're cute, or we want one because it's a trendy breed, among many other unimportant factors. Not the owners, nor the sellers/breeders, take into consideration the things that actually matter, such as compatibility with your lifestyle, can you properly provide for the animal and meet their needs, are you at all knowledgeable on that particular animal or breed, ect.. I just find it to be really sad and actually quite irresponsible how we go about this. We have laws to punish people who are cruel, abuse, and/or neglect animals but yet, nothing really in place to prevent it from happening. If we actually treated the sale of domestic animals with respect and responsibility, there would be a lot less unwanted animals from over breeding to meet the supply and demand of trends and owners getting in over their heads with an animal they can't handle and end up abandoning or rehoming them, or having the animal not live the life it deserves because of an uneducated owner who is ill equipped to properly take care of them.

    If those are the rules in Connecticut, I would NEVER take my dog to a communal, off-leash allowed area. Anything can set a dog off. The risk, which is already pretty big, would be too huge. If you want to socialize your dog, do it in a controlled environment with dogs you know and are comfortable with, or just don't have a social dog.
    Normally, I can't stand Harvey, but I loved his post-case interview with the idiot defendant. "I don't have another choice." "Sure you do. Walk him without going to the dog park." "How will I socialize him?" "Talk to him." The truth is, if your dog can't handle being social--i.e. it could attack another animal or person--then you cannot continue to force it into social situations and just say, "Well how else will I teach him to be social?" Maybe you just have a dog that doesn't want to be social.

    I haven't seen the ending yet, so I don't know if the defendant loses or not, but you assume a certain risk when you take your dog to a dog park. Dogs who have been totally docile their whole lives can be set off by something that happens at a dog park where a bunch of different owners and animals are running around. There are different toys being thrown around--we can't control how dogs will react from day to day. If you're going to bring your dog into a park where all the animals are off leash, there's a risk that something bad could happen that neither of the owners could have predicted.
    The defendant is a jerk for sure. And if his dog were to get into ANOTHER fight, he would be liable for that, because now he's on notice that there are circumstances that might set his dog off. That's what changes it to negligence. If this is the first time the defendant's dog has ever been in a fight, I don't think he would be liable.
